Thanks The 4ner, I like your animated GIF! Wink

It's been so exciting for me to see photos of these keychains used almost daily on various websites, including at least 4 different photos that have been used in 4 articles on CoinDesk.com! I genuinely appreciate everyone's support and interest, and I hope you'll keep supporting CryptoAnarchy.com (ships from USA) and BTCtrinkets.com (ships from EU) to buy these keychains and other fun Bitcoin collectibles -- both stores only accept BTC. For those in the USA who don't have much Bitcoin and don't want to part with it, you can also use fiat to buy on Amazon.com (but it costs a bit more than if you buy with BTC at one of the mentioned online shops -- I like to encourage actual use of Bitcoin). Links to all are at bkeychain.com.

It's been so rewarding creating these keychains and bringing them to Bitcoin Meetups, that I not only have a second run of Bitcoin Keychains being manufactured right now, but I've also got a complimentary Litecoin keychain that just went into production. For someone who can't code his way out of a paper bag, this has been a fun way for me to be more involved in the community.
222  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WARNING: Only buy 1+ Terahash or more Bitcoin miners hardware on: September 17, 2013, 11:29:08 PM
Well, if the difficulty goes that high, it means coins will be incredibly hard to get.

Which means that the demand will outstrip the supply.

Which means that the price of BTC will skyrocket.

The network is supposed to be self-stabilizing. Time for a real test, I guess.
Won't people with the best/newest mining equipment just take a higher percentage of the mined coins? And isn't the number of BTC created per day a small enough percentage of the total BTC to not really make a huge difference in supply? And won't new ASICs keep catching up with the difficulty (as new ASICS are what is driving the hash rate up)?

I'm not a miner, and happy to learn from opposing viewpoint, if my view isn't quite on target.
223  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox Account secured with Yubikey but still had 29 BTCs stolen on: September 15, 2013, 06:23:44 PM
I'll say it again because it's so important:
  • Locked withdrawal addresses
  • User-defined withdrawal delays
  • Mandatory email confirmation of withdrawal

Yes! Why oh why don't exchanges allow these seemingly-simple solutions to help protect users?

If this claim is B.S., it's really sad.
224  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WARNING: Only buy 1+ Terahash or more Bitcoin miners hardware on: September 15, 2013, 12:30:56 AM

Thanks for that hearty laugh, Pedrog!

And I do appreciate the mining advice, Tom, no matter what species your team of experts is.
225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I Escrow If I Want To Sell? on: September 15, 2013, 12:28:45 AM
As a seller, you obviously don't need escrow if you're getting paid in BTC before sending the product. But, assuming the item value isn't tiny (like under $10 bucks), seems a seller shouldn't balk at a buyer's request for escrow.

I've purchased two things from BitcoinTalk.org, neither using escrow. The first was a 1BTC Casascius coin, and I purchased it w/o escrow, because the seller looked to be very reputable. And sure enough, it was an extremely professional transaction. And then I purchased a copper bitcoin round, and didn't look carefully enough to make sure the "satisfied buyers" weren't plants, and I got ripped off. But it was for so little money, I was fine chalking up the loss as a lesson, and I wouldn't have bothered with escrow on such a small purchase.

In my mind, a lot has to do with reputation and value of the product. I'd risk a fair amount on someone who seems to have a proven good reputation, but very little on someone who does not... Though, I suppose, a good con artist might take his time to establish a good reputation, then when the money is really flowing in, just disappear.
226  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What does it say when Vladimir Putin acts more Presidential than Barack Obama? on: September 15, 2013, 12:18:01 AM
I think you can point to plenty of evil on both sides, and I'm certainly not looking at Russia as in the running for a society that most would want to live in. But I do agree that Putin played the Syria hand perfectly, and came out of this one smelling like a rose.

And of course, Russia would not hand over Snowden; why on earth would they? There is no way that the US would hand over a Russian or Chinese dissident if the situation were reversed, so the hypocrisy of acting like this is a point of contention is a joke. Since I think Snowden is pretty much a hero worldwide (and to a lot of Americans) for showing how fucked US intelligence has become, Russia probably earns more respect allowing Snowden to stay than giving him back to the U.S.
227  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [NEW] ANTANA BITCOINS – First Physical Statistic Coin! [300coins/Batch] on: September 13, 2013, 12:52:03 PM
Very cool, I want to get some! Any interest in trading one of these coins for one of my Bitcoin Keychains? If so, please PM me.
228  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: September 11, 2013, 03:22:09 PM
I realize my major error now. The indexed USD prices confused me is all!

No problem! I realized when I went to the links, it is not clear that you pay in BTC. Please let me know if you're happy with the product, and if the store you order from gets the keychain to you promptly.
229  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: September 11, 2013, 03:11:33 AM
I'd like to pay in BTC, is that an option anywhere? It doesn't appear to be.
While Amazon doesn't take Bitcoin, I believe both the other online retailers do accept Bitcoin (and not Fiat). If you get to the checkout process, and don't see it's BTC that's accepted, please let me know and I'll get you taken care of.

Loving these.

Send coindesk some large decent images to use - 1024x768 minimum, and will add to archive. Will link to the store / seller or here with credit. I like the one with the PCB background Smiley

Cheers

Thank you, I've been thrilled to see more photos used on your site!
232  Economy / Collectibles / Re: GRADED! Casascius Coins on: September 10, 2013, 05:13:07 AM
I just updated this thread. The graded coins are in. Pictures have been posted.
Hey Nightowlace,

Since you have such a good rep (at least in my book), have you thought about selling any other coins? I bet people who trust you from the Casascius Coins you've them might do repeat business with you if you had other offerings. I sure would!
233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Account got hacked on: September 09, 2013, 11:10:37 PM
Well I found out the cause, i fell for a phishing site. Stupid, I know.

I contacted Theymos and another mod, hopefully I'll hear from them pretty soon.

Can you say more about the fishing site, so we'll know what to look out for?
234  Economy / Collectibles / Re: New Bitcoin COLD HARD CASH by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: September 06, 2013, 11:37:55 PM
I have just learned that I have some competition!   Grin  It is flattering to have copiers.  Looks like he tried to hurry it out though.
Generally I relish competition, and this is no exception.  It is even more delightful that the competition is the notorious Rob Gray of the Mulligan Mint who is offering this piece:

https://factorystore.mulliganmint.com/silver/1-oz/brilliant-uncirculated-quality/bit-coin.html

From a visual or reputation perspective, I don't see much competition.

236  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-30 Forbes - 10 Reasons Bitcoin Is The MySpace Of Money And What Might Sa on: September 03, 2013, 04:00:02 AM
This article stuck in my craw too. Not sure if you all read the responses, there were some good ones, such as the one below.

Response from Erik Voorhees:
"Steve – let me say, your writing is excellent. Let me also say, you’re wrong about Bitcoin. I’ll address each of your 10 numbered arguments.

1 – It’s completely legal. And outlawing it will be as effective as outlawing filesharing.

2 – You can’t cut off money transfers into/out of Bitcoin. Any two people can exchange directly with each other.

3 – Volatility gets lower over time. It’s far more stable today then last year, or the year prior. Markets stabilize. Give it time.

4 – Feature, not a bug. You’re suggesting Bitcoin would fail because it will only appreciate in value? Think that through a little more.

5 – It is a fallacy that a growing population requires a growing money supply. Inflation is a scam, not a feature of quality money.

6 – You’re right, most people don’t care about Bitcoin today. They also didn’t care about the Internet before they started using it and now, can’t live without it.

7 – It’s complex because it’s new. Entrepreneurs are making Bitcoin easier. Again, give it time.

8 – Benefits to merchants are superior to any other payment system, loyalty program, or other gimmicks. Bitcoin means an instant “money good” transaction from anyone, anywhere, with near-zero fee. As point 7 is addressed, you’ll see merchants come to Bitcoin in droves.

9 – The Internet is also online only. Are you suggesting the Internet will fail because of this “bug”? Nobody is suggesting Bitcoin works well in a caveman society, but it works amazingly in a society with power and internet.

10 – So an open-source software project is “sketchy”, but a currency created out of thin air, with no limit, by a select group of central bankers and politicians is just dandy?

Bitcoin is not the MySpace of money. It’s the Internet of money. Money now moves freely, instantly, anywhere. Good luck stopping that. But again, I like your writing, Steve Smiley "

The use of these keychains as stock photography in Bitcoin articles continues to blow my mind. Thanks again to Pinguino for enabling the first media use of a photo of these keychains.

Thanks 001sonkit. Yeah, different keychains for different people. I think this is the heaviest that has been mass-produced (I've also seen wood ones, 3D-printed ones, etc., so I'm not sure what those weigh). If you want something light, the two options I think of first are the penguin and Jon Waller's keychains:
http://btctrinkets.com/presta2/index.php?id_product=9&controller=product
http://cryptoanarchy.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=125

Note that ALL of our keychains can be repurposed as necklaces, placed on a pet's collars, etc.
239  Economy / Services / Re: anyone interested in MTGOX withdraw service? on: August 27, 2013, 03:12:52 PM
Why would you buy BTC at an Mtgox price - i.e. 15% higher then elsewhere?

Desperation.

On the other hand, selling at the Gox price makes a lot of sense.
240  Economy / Collectibles / Re: A new 2-sided Bitcoin Keychain on: August 25, 2013, 10:15:06 PM
I'm in shock that a photo of these keychains was used as stock photography for a bitcoin article on BusinessInsider.com:

http://www.businessinsider.com/reaction-to-texas-judge-bitcoin-ruling-2013-8

I owe them for the P.R., and I guess I should add "as seen on BusinessInsider.com" as a credit now.

Im so jealous, Ive gone as far as to post some images of my goods on free imagebanks online with credits to use freely, but havent seen a single taker so far. I mean comeon Casascius coins are cool but the articles really need more diverse images!

Yeah, it was amazingly lucky! Pinguino (the photographer) said her creative commons images are used a lot online, so that may have helped. Have you done any image searches to be sure yours haven't been used?
