In a rare moment of sanity, DHS released a statement yesterday saying that it would be difficult to regulate 3d weapon printing or 3d printing in general.  I noticed that this news has not appeared on most "news" websites.  Use this search at Google and pick a website to see more: DHS cannot regulate 3d printing

What's really freaky is that if you keep following the line past Mecca it eventually points right at... the Pentagon.  Wait, all of the other corners point back to the Pentagon too!  What kind of dark magic is this?!

If Groves hadn't been in such a hurry (so that he could move on to the Manhattan project) I'm sure he would have taken some time to make sure that none of the corners pointed at anything else on the planet.

Has anyone that's reading this been able to withdraw from Mt. Gox to OKPay since 5/21?  If so, please reply here and also include whether or not your Mt. Gox and OKPay accounts are verified or not verified.

Thanks
224  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox OKPay Error on: May 23, 2013, 08:55:20 PM
So the new withdrawal transaction I initiated has now also gone to an error status.  I have submitted a new support request to Mt. Gox but am not holding out much hope.
225  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox OKPay Error on: May 23, 2013, 03:31:18 AM
Nova - I appreciate the concern.  So far all of the problems with the transaction have been within the Mt. Gox domain of control.

In the dept. of "you can't make this shit up":
My initial request to cancel the transaction was done as a follow-up to my original support request.  After not hearing back and seeing no change in status I suspected they considered it closed and would never see my request.  So I opened a new request asking them to cancel the transaction so I could initiate a new untainted transaction.  I received a reply in about an hour saying that they had canceled the transaction as per my request.  Great.  I initiated a new withdrawal for one dollar more than the now canceled transaction (so that it wouldn't be confused with the canceled transaction).  The new withdrawal didn't go anywhere right away so I let it be for a few hours.  When I went back to check I saw that it too had now been canceled.  I checked my email and sure enough, there was a reply to my original request saying that the transaction was canceled.  In both requests I had included the transaction reference number as well as the dollar amount.  So the second support person never checked the dollar amount nor the transaction reference number on the transaction they canceled.  They just saw a transaction on my account and canceled it.

"We're from Mt. Gox support and we're here to help."  Embarrassed

Here is the reply I got from them:
Quote
Hello,

Thank you for your email. We have retried the transaction and its in process,it should go through soon. Please let us know if you still wish to cancel and transfer funds back to your Mtgox account.

Thanks,

MtGox.com Team

The status on the transaction is now set to "todo".  I'm not sure how that differs from PENDING, but it sounds like they still need to do one or more manual steps.  I asked them to just cancel it so that I can create a new transaction.  I'll update here with the results of that request.
227  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox OKPay Error on: May 22, 2013, 03:27:36 AM
I have run into the exact same issue.  The status went from PENDING to CONFIRMED after a short period.  It stayed at CONFIRMED for several hours and it is now set to ERROR.

The money is gone from the Mt. Gox account and the transaction does not show up at all on my OKPay account.

Has anyone else run into this?  Have you gotten any information from Mt. Gox?

I submitted a support request about it and will update here if I hear back from them.

YOU THINK THE DHS IS ONLY TARGETING MT GOX? NO! THEY ARE TARGETING BITCOIN

BE SAFE OUT THERE. I AM NOT SUGGESTING PEOPLE USE RIPPLE. USE A BRAINWALLET. BUT RIPPLE IS NOT AFFECTED.
So my ripple IOU for worthless bitcoins will still be valid?  That's just awesome.
229  Other / Politics & Society / Re: MTGOX sued by COINLAB for $75 million on: May 17, 2013, 08:57:00 PM
A good way to look at is is for every dollar spent on a Bitcoin, they can now loan out $9 less because they have a 1:9 lending ratio limit. Therefore it is in the banking system's best interests to either control or destroy Bitcoin and or cryptocurrency as a whole.
What does this have to do with it?  If global citizen A buys a dollar's worth of bitcoin from global citizen B, the number of dollars in the world hasn't changed.  Your statement here would only be true if it were a member of the global banking system that was purchasing bitcoins from a non member.

Maybe some kind soul will print a clue for Mr. Yee.

(Fabbaloo blog) California state senator Leland Yee says 3D printers must be regulated

I bet Mr. Yee would freak if he knew what some folks could do with a standard 3- and 4-axis CNC milling machine in their garage. Or a few items from the hardware store. Or a pointy stick. Or a rock.

1) Ask for forgiveness.
2) Disband.

Mutum Sigillum LLC is in the US and apparently lied on an MSB form that they weren't a money services company.
They can just say they report to Eric Holder and this will all blow over in a few days.

DOJ is under the DHS, right?. If this isn't in relation to the court case, then what?
No, they are both cabinet level departments.

"People can buy things with Amex points. That's a real kind of currency that's created by American Express to allow them to have a greater piece of consumption that they otherwise wouldn't get," said Bremmer.

Except that Amex points are simply icing on the cake; no one would've signed on for the service if they didn't need a credit card at all. His example is pretty poor.

You're right - he obviously doesn't get it.  I'm pretty sure AMEX handles transactions in various currencies now, and any of them can earm Amex points.  So if people want to remain ignorant about CC rewards programs, AMEX can still give out their points even on transactions done in bitcoin.

And since this touches on a sore spot with me and CC companies:
Are Amex points part of a rewards program?  CC rewards programs are funded by charging merchants higher discount rates on transactions incurred on the cards.  The merchant has no way of knowing what their full transaction cost will be until long after the transaction is completed.  This practice leads directly to higher prices for everyone.  So what he is in effect saying is "We'd prefer to keep the existing systems in place so that people can buy shit with other people's money and we make a shit load of money."

In a hundred years in a hundred parallel worlds I wouldn't have come up with the concept of Bitcoin...

I don't always invent a cryptocurrency.  But when I do, it's bitcoin.  - DeathAndTaxes

Lets get to the part where we put D&T on the scales to see if he weighs the same as a duck.

DeathAndTaxes says it's not him/her.  Who's #2 on your list?

btw D&T, just to put all doubts to rest, what were you doing during the second half of 2008?
