221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: December 02, 2017, 04:05:46 PM
Hi Yellow Submarine, ICO hasn't started yet but I'm guessing you are talking about the Pre-ICO funding round which ends at midnight on Monday GMT.

Gameron, we have server side restrictions in place so that once you go above a certain hash rate you don't earn any more. This is to stop someone rigging up a high powered ASIC device or something like that and gaming the system. It's lottery based with a limit of one ticker per user per block @ 30 seconds.

Hi Cdrx,

Your balance would have been updated with the additional mining earnings from the last few days it was just the reporting stats that were affected.

We are currently only storing the cumulative totals for each siteID (and subID) which can be seen in the "SiteID's" tab on the publisher page. I'll put in a feature request for more detailed stats analysis by siteID too. We are trying to balance the amount of data storage with functionality of the system. The reporting is a bit bare-bones though so I'm sure there is a lot we can do to improve it for the next update.
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: December 01, 2017, 09:24:55 AM
Hi kbrdek, thank you. We are looking at the possibility of a bounty campaign as part of the ICO marketing plan.

Cdrx, we had a blip on the stats, earnings weren't affected but reporting on the platform wasn't displayed right between the 27th and 30th. Full details here: https://jsecoin.com/forums/topic/bug-with-mined-today-stats/#post-4834

Thanks to everyone that has invested and mined in the last week we've had amazing support since announcing the close of the pre-ico funding. Probably Bitcoin going over $10k didn't hurt us either as everyone seems to be talking about crypto at the moment. Next week once everything settles down we are going to branch our repo and start work on the next major update. We have the testnet fully setup and functional now so the developers can work on and break things without affecting the main system. I think once the update is done the next step will be to get a 3rd party security review and then open-source to code base. From there we will start looking at exchange integration and plans for the ICO. Tracey will be working on the accounts and we should have the November accounts posted on the website next week.

Thanks again to all the early adopters and a final reminder that anyone that wants to invest should do so before midnight GMT on Monday 4th December.

Nice project, so when the code will be open-sourced?

I think around Q1 2018 after we've rolled out the next major update and done a security review. We need to get a 3rd party review done as well before it's released.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 27, 2017, 01:52:49 PM
Hi caytienbct, I think the main feature that makes us different is the web based mining platform. This allows us to distribute the coin further and wider than traditional cryptocurrencies ensuring more stakeholders.

Rmueti, it will be listed on exchanges after the ICO which will be in 2018 but we haven't set a date yet.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 24, 2017, 11:33:35 PM
Hi CDRX,

No it runs within the browser of the website visitor using javascript so your web server is completely unaffected.

The main javascript file is distributed from our content delivery servers so there is no additional load on your hosting provider.

Thanks to all our early investors that have helped move this project forwards.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 21, 2017, 09:58:34 AM
The issue with webmining is that the fraud attempts we are facing are similar to those that ad networks have been battling with for 20 years such as botnets, automated browser networks, hidden iframes etc. Some, but not all, of these are solvable programmatically, it is an ever evolving threat and to date noone has come up with a reliable programmatic solution in ad-tech. Googles ad network is still riddled with fraudulent traffic as anyone who has ever worked with the display network will know. Is there a way to do this in a truly 100% decentralized system? I don't believe there is but I think it will be possible to build a hybrid type system which has some of the benefits of centralized services and some of the benefits of dapps.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 20, 2017, 09:11:40 PM
Cryptur: At the moment the mining isn't decentralized, all the servers are running behind the jsecoin.com load balancer. A publisher has to use the load.jsecoin.com script and associated fraud controls. It would be difficult to maintain any kind of quality control in a truly trustless system and the last thing we want to do is create an arms race for who can hack the most sites and put JSEcoin script on the domains.

There's an article here about decentralization and the challenges and opportunities we have available: https://jsecoin.com/thoughts-on-decentralization/
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 19, 2017, 01:45:51 PM
Cryptur - At this time no we don't have nodes that others can compile and run. This is however a requirement for the exchanges so it will be coming at some point I believe. Regarding the functionality I am not sure whether we will be able to allow other mining pools because quality control/fraud would be an issue I feel.

BlackNeo -It's fine but bare in mind that mining rewards are split between every user on the same IP address. So if your wife logs in at the same time as you are mining your rewards will half. This is a measure put in place to stop abuse where only one ticket per block is issued per IP address. This is the kind of thing that could be bypassed in theory if we open-sourced the code and let 3rd parties run their own pools which goes back to Crypturs comment.

Ranawat1987 - Exchange listing we have said 2018 but haven't set a date yet as we have a lot of work to do (see above) and I don't want to commit to a date and then have to push it back. The bottom line is we want to build out a great platform and engage a solid user base before we ICO and we aren't going to rush in to it. Our team is not well known in cryptocurrency circles and I feel like we have to prove ourselves before we can expect the majority of investors to take the risk of investing in the project.

Cdrx - See above. We haven't decided on the ICO/exchange token technology yet which would dictate what offline wallets are available. ERC20 is the current standard, Bittrex now supports ERC223. EOS are working on some really exciting stuff which may be better suited but we don't know how widely adopted it will be at this point. There's plenty of other organizations working on this technology which could disrupt the industry by the time we are ready to ICO. We could integrate with ERC20 token now which would work with the majority of offline wallets and exchanges but then that would be locking us in to a technology that isn't ideal for our use case. I'm sorry we can't commit to an exact date for ICO at this stage but I don't feel confident I know enough about the challenges ahead to make an accurate assessment. We only launched in August and there are currently daily updates to the system as we move forwards. This isn't going to be an overnight process and we are looking at this as a long-term project. As soon as we have a date I will put a notification on this forum and the JSEcoin website.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 15, 2017, 06:28:27 AM
xburcoin, kind of yes. Once you've exported the coins from the system you can either import them back in to your own account or another account. There are some differences to private keys however the main one being that when you export a bitcoin private key from an online wallet, the private key should be deleted from the online-wallets servers, you are then fully responsible for that private key. If you lose it the funds are lost forever and there is no way of recovering them. With our platform we keep a record of the coincodes associated with your account server-side. If you go into exports you will see the coincode and have the option to import it again. There is a privacy/security vs convenience/safety(losing keys) play off here. When we build out the exchange integration it is likely that we will be using traditional industry standard technologies (ERC20) which will make it possible to use offline wallets / cold storage etc.

Leeke, Yes the decline in earnings is something that we are conscious of as the project has gained traction. The more users/publishers that adopt the technology though the more chance the project has of being a success and ultimately achieving a good valuation on the exchanges. We've treated the anti-virus companies differently to the browser miner blocking plugins. I think if someone goes out of their way to install a mining blocker then it should be treated as an opt-out and the code shouldn't run so we agree with them blocking our platform. There's a few anti-virus companies that have also blocked us which we feel is unwarranted because our technology and systems aren't unethical in the same way that hidden miners are. We have complained and raised support tickets with these companies with varying degrees of success/response. Unfortunately some web based mining organizations are carrying out shady business practices and it's creating a lot of bad press for us as well. At the moment it's still very new technology and most general website visitors don't understand it. Hopefully in due course visitors will get used to the "website monetized by cryptocurrency mining" notifications, realize it's not malware or anything to be concerned about and it will become more widely accepted. Until then we have a PR battle on our hands but I think it's a worthy cause.

Hi Dragos, you are indeed user 90 Smiley thanks for dropping by.

xyburcoin, you can either keep them on the platform or export them using the export page.

gamechain, regarding translations the platform is still in active development and changing fast so we don't want to get anything translated yet because we would need to redo it in the future.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 14, 2017, 07:52:19 AM
Princehandsome we currently don't have a bounty scheme but this is something we may offer as we get closer to the ICO to help with translation/promotions etc.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 14, 2017, 07:11:32 AM
Hi everyone thank you for your kind comments.

@arghabd, you can increase the hash rate using the settings button on the mining page.
Desktop app is finished we just need to tidy up the code and do a few checks before it's released later this month hopefully. Mobile app is going to take a little longer because we are having difficulties getting much performance out of mobile devices for mining.

One more thing to note is that the publisher rewards algorithm doesn't work like bitcoin. We reward unique visitors rather than difficulty of hash found. This makes the system resilient to high powered mining hardware.

More information on that is available here: https://jsecoin.com/technical/
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 13, 2017, 08:01:35 PM
Hi rpjacobs thanks for dropping by.

JohnTwo:
1) We have a section on page10 of the whitepaper on future use cases. I'll post it here too (sorry about the long post)

Our primary ambition and end goal is to create a cryptocurrency that is adopted globally by a mainstream audience. Our best chance of getting to that stage is to produce a platform that is focused on the needs of webmasters and accessible to everyone.

We intend to release merchant tools that will allow webmasters to use JSEcoin for taking digital payments via their websites.

  • Shopping carts
  • Pay buttons
  • SaaS subscriptions
  • Digital downloads
  • Digital marketing
  • Software sales
  • Website membership subscriptions

Anything purchased through a website should be available to pay with cryptocurrency - JSEcoin could lead the way in making this possible and simple for webmasters.

With webmasters on board, it will be easier to convince the mainstream audiences to the benefits of digital currency over traditional fiat currency. If a consumer can easily purchase and use a cryptocurrency, then many will see the deflationary appeal as a big incentive over inflationary local currency.

Advertising

If demand at ICO is not high enough to generate funds required to target mainstream audiences we could fall back to offering an advertising service where JSEcoin is the currency used to trade digital ad space. This was our original idea for the platform before we realized how much mainstream demand there was for a cryptocurrency platform.

We currently have 4216 websites that have opted-in to display advertising if it were to become available. The code snippet is already in place on sites so nothing further would be required from the webmasters.

The advertising space could be sold to affiliate marketers and digital media buyers creating additional demand for JSEcoin on the exchanges.

Webmasters would be rewarded with additional funds in JSE and statistics would be available to show how much of the rewards were coming from mining vs advertising.

2a) You can try the self-mining that CryptoNinja11 mentioned. This is available via the platform at https://platform.jsecoin.com

2b) secp256k1,SHA256,30seconds
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 13, 2017, 07:21:49 PM
Hi johntwo,

We operate as transparently as possible and a privacy notice is displayed to the end user which includes an opt-out link. It would not be possible to run an opt-in system for all the same reasons it is not possible to run opt-in digital advertising. We inform the user that the site is monetized with cryptocurrency mining and give them the option to opt-out if they do not wish to participate. From a user-experience point of view our code is not resource intensive and will not slow down page load times or negatively affect browsing. This makes the system less intrusive than traditional website monetization methods.

239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to start investing with 1$? on: November 09, 2017, 11:47:57 AM
So because of the amount it would be much easier to make $99 doing xyz but in general to get 100x returns you need to focus on smaller cap coins. It's much more unlikely Bitcoin will hit $700k next year than it is for a new altcoin to go from $0.0001 to $0.01. The problem is the risk is much higher too but if it's just an experiment pick something and hold it for a year and see what happens. It's a psychological lose lose scenario because if it does go up 100x you'll kick yourself for not investing more than $1 and if it gets delisted or goes to zero you have nothing gained.

Real shame about Poloniex and a strange move by them. Shouldn't affect the long-term prospects of this project though.
