In my country its not that different, majority of the parents their child to be a doctor or an engineer. it is mostly because they know that with these jobs their children can live a stable life when its come to money with lot of respect. but the trend is slightly changing in the past few decades as more and more job oriented courses are coming, and the people are getting the information they want to have to choose correct path.
but the MBBS degree still standout from the other carrier paths. because it is the only degree with assured job in my country.

as i believe the main reason for long term poverty in countries is due to poor education and lack of knowledge leading to poor understanding about their situation and not knowing methods to get rid of the factors that make them poor,
by education the public, they can gain the knowledge to improve agricultural activities with the resources they have, because even in most barren land you can cultivate something with proper knowledge, with that their nutrition level will grow up and that will help them to archive more money seeking activities,
poor education and knowledge also leads to corrupt politics and poor governance, this make the population go in to more trouble.
so to reduce poverty, the best way would be to increase the education level of the society.

according to Buddhism, death is not the end of life, it is that we leaving the body we used to live in for this chapter, the spirit will seek for new body to born again, that will affect by the things we done in the all past lives, if we have done more good things we will be able to attach to a higher end life form, but if we have done more bad things we will attach to a lower life form.
in this way we will live again and again as different life forms, this is called sansaraya
by improving our understand and improving the inner purity you can attain nirvana, end of all suffering, and no more rebirth afterward.

badness or goodness of abortion is depend on mothers condition. if there is a danger to the life of the mother due to the pregnancy, abortion is indicated, in most of the other situations abortion is illegal in the majority of the countries,
even though its illegal lot of pregnant mothers risk their life by attempting unsecure abortion procedures, specially in developing countries.
in my opinion best way to tackle the problem will be health education, and making easy accessibility to contraceptive methods.
what people need to know is without proper medical care attempting to abort can be life threatening.

most of the other religions follow gods but not in Buddhism, Buddha is a human, and every person can reach to the enlightenment by clearing your thoughts and by understanding the reality of life

you can take 3-4 units of alcohol per day (for men, for woman 2-3 units), it want harm you, actually it will be beneficial, but if you take more than that for a day that will harm you liver and increase the risk of other diseases,
best advice would be avoid drinking alcohol, but its ok to drink with in the limit,
(1 unit - 8g of alcohol)
