Properly done photos can prove a damn lot. Show the hardware, show the mining software running, show the account at a mining pool, get the mining pool owner to verify it, make a large enough amount of hashing where faking it with gpu would be terribly difficult to do, etc.... What is so hard about it? It would be fun and amazing.
Their excuse would be not mining on the main network, but you could probably get a pool operator to set up a testnet-in-a-box and point a temporary pool-in-a-box at it. They could then verify the hashrate from the photos.

I wish to build a new alt-currency with a firmware for spartan-6 that contains a new hashing algo (that should be evolvable thus eliminating the possibility to ASIC it). And build a really lightweight client with merkle root thin chain in java.
Technically this just increases the complexity of a possible ASIC.

Sorry, no. If the trade-in agreement said to send FPGAs before they send ASICs, then all they "owe" their trade-in customers is to honor that agreement.

Good call, to your answer your question: the source code will be uploaded to github soon as we remove a bunch of debug related stuff. /sarcasrm kanoi waits for the next post about the hard drive that failed and they didn't have a backup ... Edit: I will point out the obvious - you are breaking the license doing that. The software you have already shipped with the devices is the source code you must supply to anyone who rightfully requests it. Not some modified version of it ... so you already have the code (unless the devices have been shipped but not working?)

More evidence that our ASICS are real:
The thread title flat out says that the boxes are empty, and quite obviously exists only for people who like pictures of boxes (generally people who buy Apple products), and not as "evidence" for ASICs. The quality of the trolling in this thread is just getting lower and lower :/

The problem is that BFL spits out this 1w/Gh number and people quote it like it's gospel. I suppose I can agree there, though I recall seeing a post about "0.8 to 1.2".

Why do so many quote BFL's power "spec" as a firm number? BFL was WAY off on their last product's power specs, they do not have chips, and wasn't it their rep that was backpedaling on power consumption estimates just recently? Their power "spec" is a guess and likely a wild ass overly optimistic guess at that, just like their shipping dates.
65nm designs almost always outperform 90nm and especially 110nm designs by a wide margin. Their ASIC designers would have to be unusually stupid in order to fail to produce chips with higher GH/J than all of the current competitors. FPGA power estimates are arguably easier to screw up, especially if you're working with an unusual FPGA. To be a success after the difficulty rises, it doesn't have to be a "firm number". It just has to win.

Why not make tons of photos in the shipping stage? (Where we are supposedly at)
I was wondering that as well. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get pictures of the unit on several sides + with covers off. Then throw in a picture of the cgminer output. Then why is the top right sharper than the bottom right and the bottom left sharper than the top left?
At a guess, an odd camera angle with a low depth of field. Photographers can spend a lot of time lining up shots like this to make it "artistic", time that could have been spent taking a larger number of more practical photos.

- There is no guarantees that the USB interface for any given FPGA/ASIC is set and unchanging. It is possible a vendor could change the USB chip in their ASIC/FPGA to another brand to avoid shipping delays, for example.
In practice, this happens approximately never.
