225  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-04-26 BBC Radio 4 - A Point of View on: April 26, 2013, 03:27:58 PM
Another(!) BBC Radio 4 segment on Bitcoin Tonight 8:50pm BST.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01s0ssj/A_Point_of_View_Bitcoins_Cyber_Freedom/

This time covering the sociological/political side of things.

From the website:

John Gray wonders what the rise of the cyber currency Bitcoin tells us about ourselves.

Coverage of BFL shipping (and not shipping) hardware.

Bitcoin miners, we understand your envy.

Wired has taken possession of a 5-Gigahash per second Bitcoin Miner, built by Butterfly Labs — a.k.a. our very own digital money printing press. Or something like that.
227  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-04-26 Financial Times - Bitcoin Debate Comes Down to Heads or Tails on: April 26, 2013, 11:27:28 AM

Documents some of the ridicule Bitcoin has received from Colbert Report and also a recent panel of central bankers, responding to question.

Quote
As on the Colbert Report show, so too at the New York branch of the Federal Reserve, which held a gathering this week for some of the grandees of financial regulation. When one person asked if Bitcoin could become a viable unit of international exchange, participants burst out laughing.

Coverage of exchange bank freezes in Canada and Europe.

Quote
But the craze for Bitcoin has brought debate and scrutiny to them all, and we might already have entered the phase when the regulators strike back.
In recent weeks, several Bitcoin businesses have had their bank accounts shut down, suggesting traditional banks are getting worried about enabling the currency.

On currency competition.

Quote
OpenCoin chief executive, Chris Larsen, doesn’t see lots of virtual, borderless currencies competing. He thinks there might be one big winner. “I think of it like this: what did MySpace have to do to beat Friendster, and what did Facebook have to do to beat MySpace? Can anyone iterate on Facebook? There were hundreds of attempts at social networks, but only three big steps to get where we are.”

There's a rip in the Press section now if anyone is blocked by the BBC.

In case any of you want some audio to go with your chart gazing. I just linked a new BBC bitcoin documentary over in the press section. It's quite entertaining. All the usual suspects interviewed.

I expect we'll form a nice big wedge now between 140 and 120, lasting until tomorrow.
233  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 25, 2013, 08:39:48 PM
The market's so thin now, a 1k buy just had like 15% slippage, all the way back to 144. Insane.
234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: April 25, 2013, 08:26:33 PM
What's with bitcoinity showing a low of 50.01? Anyone else seeing that?

One does not simply panic buy when Bitcoin Central has one's fiat Tongue

Ouch, sorry. At least it's safe; the French government is very well capitalised...Oh wait.
237  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Central.net "We have been compromised" on: April 24, 2013, 08:27:00 PM
This is starting to get really annoying - second time they are compromised, BTC24 f@cked up, Bitfloor terminated, MtGox DDoSed, bitcoin.de with issues, BTC-e compromised too...

And still we rally.  As was said on TV today, only now is when the ~good~ entrepreneurs start to get into the space. Remember:

    Keep Calm
          and
     Panic Buy
238  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-24 CNBC--Silicon Valley guys discuss BTC on: April 24, 2013, 05:15:22 PM
Wow, I think that was really positive exposure for bitcoin.

Firstly: 2 out of 2 guests were invested personally. They were calm and confident, in it for the long-haul. Opposed by the hand-wavy presenter desperately trying to get them to say how terrifying it is.
Secondly: VC's evidently now have a new pissing match to see who has the best averaged bitcoin entry. That's so cool, reminds me of "The Social Network" when Eduardo realises that facebook has become a verb.

BTW. I'd think about trimming that ridiculous url. Everything after the '#' is usually unnecessary and is probably leaking private tracking info given it's length.
