222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Pre-ANN] Lifecoin - A coin worthy of the name. on: March 17, 2014, 12:31:59 PM
Lifeforce.info would be interested in doing a pool for this coin. Our only request is you confirm that this coin does not suffer from the infamous lack of Coind getbalance "" functionality that quite a few recent coins are being released with (i.e. they are all coming from the same cowboy developer, then rebranded).
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE][ANN]DeleteCoin - Let the deleting begin! on: March 17, 2014, 01:48:58 AM

Just had to force payouts at https://del.crunchharder.net because DeleteCoind has the same issue with no reporting unconfirmed balances properly as I described at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=511678.msg5705576#msg5705576

FFS are all these coins are rip off from the same shitty source. There is one cowboy developer going around selling his services and making coins. All coins inherit the same issue. There's no "development teams" behind any of these recent coins, so I will guarantee there will be no fix. Similar coins with this issue are Litebar, Procoin, Aphrodite and now Delcoin and thats only coins I know of. I know this cowboy developer has made a few more.

Thanks for letting me know, I spent the last hour setting up a pool for this, but I will bin it and move on. Good luck, I honestly doubt this coin or any coin with that flaw will go far.

I will be Deleting my DeleteCoin pool.  Smiley

Why does the everyone and especially the DEV ignore the elephant in the room?  FusionHash has almost never been under 50% of the total hash. Usually they are in the 80+ range and often well above 90% of the total hash.

Way past time to deal with the elephant in the room and stop complimenting the emperors nice clothes.

First of all, there is some confusion here on what exactly a 51% attack is. Double-spends are a concern if we're talking about a malicious pool operator but FusionHash has an impeccable reputation and maliciously abusing their position would be senseless to their long-term business plan. Also, while it may be true that at one point they had over 90% of the total hash, as you may have noticed, there was no fork/etc - there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding what exactly a 51% attack is capable of and I suggest doing additional research on the topic.

I think it's time for the DEV to disclose any relationship with fusionhash. I for one was surprised to see him/her making announcements on behalf of fusionhash throughout this thread. Is the dev also running fusionhash? What is the relationship if this is not the case? Part of the 8 unknown people behind this coin? If anyone doubts me, quickly check through this thread before the dev's posts are deleted or edited and you can see for yourself where he has been reporting on their behalf.

Our relationship to FusionHash is that we reached out to them 2 weeks before we launched OctoCoin and asked if they would be one of our launch pools. Mining pools are only a small part of their business model as they are building a large rent-a-hash operation, an exchange, coin hosting services, and more...but everybody speaks very highly of FusionHash which is why we specifically reached out to them. Also, we knew it would be great for marketing. The majority of OctoCoin miners were mining in that pool so when my inbox began to fill up with people upset about delayed payouts, I contacted the owner of FusionHash to help sort it out. I doubt they even have an account here - I wanted to make an announcement regarding an issue that was affecting a number of people mining the coin we just launched. I'm surprised anybody would have an issue with that.

Way past time to deal with the elephant in the room and stop complimenting the emperors nice clothes.

No elephants in this room. Look - people are going to mine where they want to mine. If it actually becomes an issue, we will address it...but it's nowhere near an issue. People need to educate themselves on these things and react accordingly. We are very serious about OctoCoin and if we thought any of this was a threat to its future (even short-term future) we would have addressed it by now.

More to come later...

Thanks for responding.

I completely disagree with ignoring the issue of having one pool with a substantially higher share of the total hashrate. It makes no sense to ignore this regardless of your faith in the admin(s).  It's 's not like it has been a rare occurrence. In fact it would've been almost impossible to ever find a time when they didn't have a lot more of the total hashrate. As I write this they have just about 80% of the total which has been a completely common value throughout the last week. Ignoring issues doesn't make them go away.

If they are so ethical, why haven't they made any effort to deal with the issue?

I think he's taking the "Let the shit hit the fan, then we'll deal with it" approach. Lifeforce could really use some extra hashes if you change your mind. We dropped quite a bit in hashes when the big miners left. If you don't help us now, we will probably die out, and instead of Octocoin being active on 3 pools it will be 2 pools, then soon after 1? I hope you act, but if you don't I'll stop trying and refocus my attention elsewhere.

I recommend that devs check that every single pool for this coin has applied the stratum exploit patch, then it will be fair for everybody.
https://github.com/MPOS/php-mpos/issues/1938
I can't wait for the launch!!!

Roto2 is everywhere !!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txlmGt_7R94

Its not an exploit. Its a visual glitch and it only affects those pool operators that alter their stratum code. If you download the the stratum code and leave it unaltered and use it as it is - It works perfectly fine.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FRX][SCRYPT] FOREXCOIN *Launch 17th March 10 PM EDT* on: March 15, 2014, 10:39:01 PM
Please confirm that this coin has the CoinD GetBalance "" functionality to display confirmed + unconfirmed coins built in. This is a standard function with all properly developed coins. Alot of new coins released do not have this standard feature built into the coind code and causes a number of issues with web pools using MPOS and subsquently payouts for miners.

There is a developer for hire going around making coins from a disfunctional source.

If you can confirm that there is no issue, Lifeforce will be happy to host a pool for your coin. If you need help on testing if you have this issue or not, please let me know.

Well once you've been through a fork or two on one of these altcoins you will understand.  Basically one fork has to be chosen, and anyone who ended up with coins on another fork is completely out of luck.

It's bad for the people that lose money and it's bad for the future of the coin. In any currency, the name of the game is confidence. Once that is lost, investors, miners, and exchanges are hesitant to get burned again. Usually the dev is concerned and taking an active role, but for some reason we have heard from neither the dev nor fusionhash on this issue.

Miners that have been through this, will always be on the lookout. It's up to the dev and the pools to be ethical and do the right thing for the good of the community. I've seen it before and it's the only method that works. The biggest pool simply stops new registrations until the stability of the block chain is no longer in danger. If that is not fast enough, some pools even raise the fees to discourage existing miners. They do this not only because they are ethical but because they care about future of the coin. There is no way that you're going to get all the miners to manage this on their own, especially since the more experienced ones know that if they end up on the wrong fork, they are SOL.

Agreed
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PCN] ProCoin launches 14th of March, Huge Rewards in March & April on: March 15, 2014, 02:52:26 PM
SUMPOOL miners in here? If it is, I hope you can support me, an up and official communication. . . thanks

The source was online before launch which was my mistake.  This caused mining to start before the coin had even been launched so we had to change the code and then make it public again right at launch.  This caused any coins mined before launch to be out of date and not worth anything, as the only way to make the launch fair was everyone starting at the same time (including me).  Right now any updates/issues are being posted to this thread (especially the first post) so that everyone's up to date.
Please can you release an updated wallet daemon that behaves normally?  Please see the information detailed in this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=511678.msg5705576#msg5705576 and act upon it.  The daemon does not function normally.

Thanks

Aleks
Hi Aleks.  We're working on that and will release an update as soon as we have it.  As far as I understand right now this seems specific to how the coin works with MPOS and it seems a number of pool owners have seen issues like this before and fixed it for themselves, but I'll also be looking to avoid further issues altogether by updating the source.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  I've numerous updates/additions to the coin planned and have put fixing this issue at the top of the list.

Thanks, however this is not an issue related to MPOS, it is related to the coind client being unable to display unconfirmed coins by any method of RPC call.  We have a work around at crunchharder but I wouldn't call it a fix as it requires hacking the code and occasional manual intervention.  We spent about 6 hours digging through your code last night until 4am to figure out the root of the MPOS issue as referenced here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=511678.msg5705576#msg5705576.  If you need some help then drop us a line at crunchharder.

Thanks,

Aleks

Hi Aleks.  I've been in touch with Paul and just sent him a message.  I'm in touch with other pools and here's the reply I received from one:

Quote
Hi,

You're welcome.

I rewrote the MPOS PHP payout schemes so they worked. I personally didn't see any bug with the 'coin' and assume it is a problem with MPOS. Other people had the same problem with other coins yesterday so it is probably an issue with the latest MPOS pull.

Thanks,

This issue has been investigated by various parties for past coins. As Aleks said, the issue does not lie with MPOS. Hacking MPOS to force it to work shouldn't really be the answer to this situation. This coin and certain others in the past have been taken from a specific base source. That base source lacks the CoinD GetBalance "" functionality. So all coins released from that code inherits the same issue. The answer here is to fix the source code. Hacking MPOS will leave pool owners open for a whole host of errors. I would not advise it unless you know exactly what you're doing.

If you hack MPOS and force payouts to make it work. It might work for a short time, but what happens if you get an orphan or two. You might end up paying out these orphans and if there are no checks in places to prevent this, this will come out from the pool owners pockets. There might be a number of issues with hacking MPOS to make it work. Do so at your own risk. You've been warned.

We will also say that the following pools were too damn lazy to make their own news pages and basically copied ours. Do you really want to mine with Pools who are too damn lazy to do a simple of job of making their own news page. That's up to you but we recommend you stay away from pool owners who cant make up their own stuff and steal from others:

Lol!  Grin
You realy think it is important?
Your pool do not have SSL, live chat with admin, hashrate. I think lazy you.

We appreciate your opinion but our pool is FREE, we are paying for the server ourselves and setting up the pools for you without asking anything in return. Not only that, every so often we give bonuses to our miners, sometimes even up to an extra 5% in payouts for EVERYONE.

So you're telling me, we're lazy, as we don't want to pay for SSL from our pockets, and we dont want set up live chat with admin and that has to be monitored 24/7.

We are offering a certain service. We offer FREE pools, and sometimes we even pay you to mine with us, but we're not going to fork out extra money for SSL and live chat with admin just yet, till we have a following of miners who like Lifeforce. If you want those extra features, join a pool with those features and pay the likely 1-2% fee. If you want a FREE pool, where any donations we get and sometimes when we're feeling happy we give back to our miners upto 5% for everyone and separate block finders bonuses for the big hashers then Lifeforce should be your choice.

As for copying the above news pages, we think it's just a bit unfair thats all however we will see it in a different light: Copying a form of flattery. So to the above pool owners of those 2 websites. We thank you.

Bullshit!
I have seen these pools earlier in this thread than you came.
And i dont see fee on other big pools (dogehouse fastpool and other), very more miners setup donate fee.
I think you slander  Angry

What's bullshit?
I have seen these pools earlier in this thread than you came? <-- Not sure what this means, but ok.

There are many pools out there that are charging no fee and might have better features but these will be for certain coins only not for every new alt coin that comes out and every new pool has to start somewhere. We have chosen a NO FEE path.

If you have any more issues or questions, feel free to PM me. If you want to reply with more insults, we rather you didn't. Either way, we wish you the best of luck in all your endeavours.

No offence to the Procoin team but we saw this coming a few hours before launch and are very glad that we pulled out of running a pool for this underdeveloped coin. We just hoped that anyone who saw our message on our site got the warning and didnt waste their time and their precious hashes on this launch. We at Lifeforce knew about issues a few hours before and decided to wash our hands of it. I dont mean to be rude to the Procoin team, but we did waste our time setting a pool up for this coin only to discover at least one major issue with the coin daemon. At Lifeforce, we make damn sure to avoid setting up pools for coins that give us certain red flags as we know they are only going to be trouble for our miners at launch and going forward. We rather avoid the risk and hassle with these types of coins. However if you still want to mine there will always be a number of alternative pools out there who will set up pools for coins like this regardless of any issues. Either they don't know or don't care enough. Lifeforce make it their mission only run to pools for the coins that we think are worthy of our time and yours.

Again, my apologies to the Procoin team if this causes any offence however alot peoples time were wasted today/this evening.

Good luck all and happy mining.

Like I said before, an ethical pool would have limited registrations long ago to prevent destabilizing the block chain. It makes no sense to try to get on bigger and better exchanges if the coin is going to fork out and cause lots of people to lose coins and exchanges to lose confidence. Miners don't have much choice as I see it, since we all know that when there is a fork that the dev will choose the fusionhash fork above all others. Meanwhile anyone else that ends up on another branch loses all their coins/$$$$.

Way past time to deal with the elephant in the room and stop complimenting the emperors nice clothes.

I agree and I've been saying it and when I told the Dev - I got no reply.

We are Lifeforce have just hit 150MH/s. However most of that is by 1-2 miners when they leave will we drop back down to 75 or so. Would be nice to have a few more miners to provide stability for this coin at our pool.
