Pretty lame mining virus... using 0% CPU.  Not a whole lotta hashing going on.

223  Bitcoin / Project Development / Looking for haters, hackers and heros to help test my Can/Am Bitcoin exchange. on: July 18, 2011, 03:46:53 PM
Hey folks...

I'm building a new bitcoin exchange for Canadian and American dollars on top of google's appengine.   It's written in GAE's python and uses google for login authentication as well.

A good part of the trading functionality is up and running and I'm looking for a few ppl who want to give it a try with a demo account.  It will be a while before the site goes live,  so I'm just looking for some input from you to determine if I'm going in the right direction at least.

It's kind of funky programming on google's cloud because the database is so distributed and you have to code your transactions in such a way to avoid inconsistency and this all needs to be tested out.

Anyway, if you would like to give it a try, please send me a PM for an invite.

Once a few people try it out,  and I'm sure it's running and the most comical bugs and speeling mistakes are removed, I will post the link here so anyone can test it.

Thanks!

Steve

edit: (Opps..I put this in the wrong topic...supposed to be in projects development...soz)
224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Change connection port of bitcoin! on: July 16, 2011, 05:20:54 PM
Do people sometimes even read  Grin

I have no connection problem at all, just no incoming port, as i am behind a special firewall.

My actual question is: Will the port be changeable in the bitcoinclient?

I don't think it would be possible to change the incoming port because the other clients who try to connect to you wouldn't know your new port number...

226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Drug Lord Douche bags: on: July 12, 2011, 07:48:45 PM
Well, help stamp out organized crime, Grow your own!  ...I still have some baggies of seeds for sale only 1BTC.  Smiley

Besides, here in Canada, the 'druglords' don't use cash to transfer equity...they just use more drugs!  ...and sometimes guns!

We send USA all our primo BC bud, and they send back coke and guns!  I don't think 'druglords' really give a crap about bitcoin imo.

227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Currency Symbol ฿ on: July 11, 2011, 05:11:57 AM
I'm going to go with BTC and ฿ for short on my site until something better in unicode comes along.  But, I might give the user the option to change the symbol in their account profile page....at least this thread provides a multitude of examples for the choices to provide.
228  Economy / Services / Re: Need developer for site component/html generation on: July 07, 2011, 08:17:02 PM
Hi there...the link in your sig don't work...but i took the 'wordpress' part off the url and it did come up.

I'm trying to figure out what you need, cuz I just built a similar component on appengine to accept bitcoin payments.

Works like this:
- App has json over https communications with your bitcoind server running somewhere else.
- your website sends a POST request to the app that has a user's unique ID, and the app connects to bitcoind and sends back a webpage with a new bitcoin address and gives a unique URL for the user to check for confirmations.
- User checks the URL.  If the payment confirmed, app sends a signed POST request to your website with the payment amount and associated userID for insertion into your database.  If payment not confirmed, user is asked to try again later.

Something like this you need?

229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: an idea for easy two-factor authentication (Attn: Mt.Gox) on: July 05, 2011, 07:31:03 PM
International mailings are slow, expensive and barely reliable. This is something your local bank might be able to do, but not Mt. Gox or Tradehill.

I would like to see more federated authentication (OpenID). Then, whether we authenticate with PGP or mailed TAN, we can use the same authentication token for many services in the bitcoin community. Services like OpenID haven't taken off due to the chicken-egg problem. Well, we're a huge clutch of chickens! let's lay some eggs.

I'm making an app on google's appengine and was considering using OpenID for user authentication....researched it quite a bit, but openid on appengine dont work with https... so that kicks that idea to the curb for now.

Google's own implementation of openid works on appengine https, but you require a google account....and I'm not sure everyone who uses my service would accept that....but i might go that route anyway due to the complete ease of implementation and the fact that all the messy bits are taken care of by someone else.  If true openid over appengine's https becomes available, i could then easily add that....but for now, a google account is required afik.

I bet at least 50% of my potential users would run away if they needed a google account to log into my site.  What do you think?

231  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sabatoge: "Losing" Bitcoins (AKA the Goldfinger Attack) on: June 24, 2011, 06:04:31 PM
We used to put pennies on the railroad tracks....then my cousin took a few to the store to try and spend them....lol...the old lady at the store gave him shit and told him it was illegal to do that.

hmm.../me wonders what a bitcoin on the railroad tracks would look like.   Huh
232  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can someone connect Facebook credits and Bitcoins on: June 24, 2011, 05:34:46 PM

233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would it take for you to buy a plane ticket and go to Tokyo? on: June 24, 2011, 05:27:08 PM
I'd prob hop on a plane and go bang on their door if they said they had some naked Japanese women hanging out in their server room or something.   Kiss
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A question to all speculators - What if Bitcoins' price just flatline? on: June 24, 2011, 05:20:16 PM
I can't see the price stabilizing anytime soon.  I like that.  I hope it ranges up and down between 10-20 USD with a gradual rise upwards.

Mt. Gox != bitcoin

http://www.google.com/trends?q=bitcoin%2C+Mt+gox&ctab=0&geo=all&date=mtd&sort=0

Google trends shows Mt. Gox is only 4% of bitcoin news.  Yawn.

You will FAIL at stopping anything sir.

236  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Virtual Currency Exchange (Eve ISK, Second Life L$, Namecoin, Bitcoin) on: June 24, 2011, 08:48:22 AM
I have a few BTC to trade for L$, but they are tied up at Virwox.com atm.  They halted trading the BTC/SLL pair when mt. gox got hacked and haven't resumed trading yet.  I just sent their support an email to ask when and if they will resume.

If they don't resume soon, I will have to make a withdrawal and possibly make a few trades with you.  Smiley

I'm heavily into scripting LSL and php/mqsql web portals, and might even consider setting up my own exchange.  I'm currently playing around with google's appengine to see if that could be a viable platform.

I already made one app on it that is quite useful to the SL community.  I takes feeds from my landbots and posts the most recent cheapest land for sale on a website.  Check it out if you're interested at http://landbot101.appspot.com.

Cheers!

237  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Medical Marijuana Cannabis Seeds for Sale - 1BTC on: June 23, 2011, 03:08:53 PM
Hi folks!  I have some awesome seeds for sale!

These are feminized seeds that I bred myself specifically for indoor growing.

They are a cross between Northern Lights #5 and Mountain Tundra.  Northern Lights is a popular indica breed while the Mountain Tundra has auto-flower traits providing a short stout sticky bush that flowers early....perfect for indoors or outdoors where the growing season is short.

I am selling packs of 10 seeds for 1 BTC.  (includes free shipping)

I live and ship from Canada where cannabis seeds are legal.  Check your local laws and regulations before purchasing.

PM me for more information or to order.

238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you edit the # of Bitcoins you have? on: June 23, 2011, 11:09:24 AM
You can put your wallet.dat file on a CD then photocopy it on a laser printer.  BUT, you must make sure sure you don't loose the wallet on the original CD so put it in the microwave first for ~60 seconds to bake it in real good before you copy it.
