221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake - NEW SFRMS on: June 27, 2014, 09:19:40 PM
I will start with providing a list of few old coins that are almost dead.These coins were the leaders :
 **The prices and value are approximate

    Coin Name          All time high         Price Now       Investment of $1000
                              $$                     $$             6 months ago worth approximately

1. Worldcoin               1                    0.022             $22
2. Megacoin               2.1                  0.064             $30
3. Quarkcoin              0.3                  0.013              $43
4. Primecoin               8                     0.36               $45
5. Feathercoin           0.9                   0.045              $50

These are few coins and there are many more from whom we can learn and make SFR best crypto for long term. If I put it in simple words " When Iphone 5s is in the market why will people buy Nokia 1100"  assuming everybody has equal income. There were two major factors that affected these coins: 1. Continuously rising supply and 2. ASIC.

First new algos solved the problem of ASIC and then POS coins solved problem of increasing supply. Now Darkcoin has made anonymity a must have feature for every coin. These three features are now must for any crypto to be successful.

Now lets come to SFR.

We have 5 algos so our coin can distribute fairly to all sections for long term, Nice looking wallet with extra features, committed dev team, message service (almost complete). But we don't have other two feature which are must for cryptos these days i.e way to control coin supply and Anonymity.

So our priority should be to work on those two things first (coin supply and anonymity) first then other things will make our coin stand out in the crowd.

Here is what I propose that can be done to make our coin successful as soon as possible. I am saying as soon as possible because we are lacking behind now, so first we have to catch other coins then leave them behind by continuously developing new features and adding good features developed by other coins at early stages.

1. Let the Devs work on SFRMS and POOF as the work is at end stage.
2. After discussion we can come up with the appropriate solution for Supply of SFR.
3. Add anonymity to our coin.
4. Can discuss how and when these features should be added.
5. Create a community donation fund where we all can contribute to SFR for future developments.
6. then we can move forward and discuss new things which we can do for our coin.
7. Continuously keep our coin updated with new features in the market as soon as possible.

We can start by discussing the 2nd point to save time and devs can work on this after finishing the current project they are working on. I would really appreciate if you have anything to add in this or remove. Please feel free to give your views on this.

Regards
Vipin Khatri

And your analysis of coins that have been launched, POW'ed, POS'ed and tanked within a 1-2 month time frame? and those that are a roaring success?  Without proof of work there is ultimately no value in a coin because it costs nothing to produce.  POS is a nice feature but why POS only?  that is simply inflation by another method, one which favours bag holders, is anti-egalitarian and stifles liquidity.  One of the greatest features of saffroncoin is it's multi-POS algo, taking that away by going POS-only would destroy it's very foundation.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake - NEW SFRMS on: June 27, 2014, 11:41:11 AM
If you implement POS, is that possible to keep POW? Even if you lower the max coin.
I see some POS coin with no need opened wallet for POS to work, can you implement it like this? If you implement it of course Smiley

We will have a look at that once the majority of the community approves that.
At present that is not on our cards now.
The current thing is POOF and then merged mining with BlakeCoin and anonymity.
i think it is the emergency and dev need to modify the total supply coin to the max 24 million, and you need to move quickly because when they see the 111 million supply investor scare they wont touch this coin like dog available 84 million value 45. you need to modify to compete and survine, and also you need to create the rich list, investor want to see the well affect they might compete and think hey i need to put in 500 or 2000 more just to be on the list of the top 50 or 100. think about what i see and say. thank you for your consider

A rich list is a nice gimmick but ultimately absolutely pointless. If I have a large quantity of ANY coin I ALWAYS keep it in multiple wallets as does just about everybody else I know.

With regard to the calls to reduce POW, introduce POS, change reward structure etc.  All that does is alienate early adopters and creates uncertainty and doubt that devs can be trusted.  For me it is also the biggest indicator that a coin has ONLY been created for short term wealth generation and has absolutely zero chance at longevity.  How many coins that have been created or changed to suit the latest trend or fad are still around or trading at any value 3 months after they were created?

Cryptocurrency needs to evolve and its communities need to grow up, shake off the "now generation" attitude and build long term value rather than focus on short term profiteering otherwise the whole crypto economy will implode on itself.

I'd say Shellbunner is the richest Octo-preneur in our happy little community here  Wink

There are a few wallets with some large balances out there  Grin

I have one address with 1% of all there will ever be just because when I look at the balance all those 8's look cool  Grin the rest is spread around a bit.

what do you guys think, how many people have more than > 100000, > 500000, > 1000000 octos?
any place to view such statistics?

I only know of one person with > 1,000,000. I'm getting close but not there yet. Hash rates have been high and steady almost the entire 3 1/2 months since launch so 888 is really spread around. Probably no accurate way to view an actual "rich list" as coins typically are spread among multiple addresses even if held in the same wallet.

Ok, I'm currently at about 250k but as a student this is already far above my money risk threshold. Now I'm just not sure if I should bet my last shirt on this coin...
IF the market cap reaches a value of say 10m, which is a realistic number IMO, then I'll be sorry not to have bought some more octos, when I had the chance.

On the other hand, if I take the profit then, spot another octocoin-like promising coin in the future and reinvest, this would be much safer.

What do you guys think: all in and hope this will be a one shot, one hit? Or play it safe?

FWIW, I am also currently pretty much all in Octo at the moment.  I'd like to diversify but there are only a few other coins around that I think have any longevity.  I keep trying to spread my hash to other coins but then end up taking profits and buying more Octo.  It's very tempting to buy more with fiat but I've resolved to stick with whatever I can mine or make up in margin trading on a small percentage of my Octo stash now.

If I were in your position I would stick with what you have, keep an eye on things but largely forget about it for 2-3 months and then come back and see what the price is.  I don't think you'll regret holding but always bear in mind; profit not taken is not profit and if we all hold huge bags forever there will be no liquidity which will get us de-listed from exchanges.

Regarding your market cap prediction of $10M, that's about twice what I'd dared to hope for. However, there are plenty of coins that pass that (albeit most quickly fade) so it's definitely possible.  It would be fantastic if we can achieve and sustain growth to that level and beyond.  I'd love to know what the devs value projections are based on the upcoming releases and their long term strategy but I'm guessing they won't want to reveal that level of detail.  There was a hint 3 weeks ago when we were trading at around 400 satoshi's that the value was about 1/5th of projections for that stage.

I keep meaning to have a go at producing a rich list from a bitcoin-abe instance running against the octocoin blockchain but just never get the time.  But you're right, it's only representative when everybody keeps their coins all in one address. I have a nice amount split between a few addresses.

scam

Child.

Lol, it might have died but that statement is absurd.  In what way could this possibly be perceived as a scam? In order for there to be or have been a scam surely somebody has to have been tricked into something, usually, in the world of crypto, resulting in a financial loss of fiat or BTC.

Nobody forced anybody into mining the coin and AFAIK it's not traded anywhere so unless you're suggesting the dev is part of an elaborate worldwide conspiracy between power generators to increase fuel consumption what possible basis is there for your pointless one word contribution to this thread?

Jay, that's the third time you have posted this exact same advertisement here in the last 48 hours.

The majority of OctoCoiners who are jerky lovers probably know about your business. no need to spam Smiley

I agree.  It's great that you're taking orders in Octo and it's great to have you in the community but I only needed to see one of these ads.  Maybe the best place for advertising products that can be bought with Octo would be in a sub-thread of the reddit?

I'm not trying to be a downer but I don't see the differentiating point in this coin. I asked before and the response sounded more like homeopathy than science. I know the 888 is positively conspicous for Chinese with 8 being a lucky number. Maybe that's why I'm only getting superstitous responses? Is that enough to ensure success?

If you would read through the thread (I know there is a lot to take in), particularly the dev-team's posts, you would understand that the services being developed for this coin are unlike the common fair being splashed about for most coins. There is real money and real development behind this coin. It's not some teenager in his parent's basement trying to make a couple of bitcoin to by some grass.

Many of the projects for this coin are being kept secret by the OctoDevs. If they are truly groundbreaking apps, I do not blame them for keeping them under wraps, as there would be twenty coins by next week saying they already have that feature. Just like all of the coins out there saying they are anonymous because DarkCoin is nearing a breakthrough and the price skyrocketed. The alt-coin world is full of copycats and if I was working on something innovative, I would keep the lid on it until it was ready to go.

I personally believe in people doing their own due diligence on whatever investment they want to make. With that being said: Read the "OctoCoin" (dev) posts throughout the thread from beginning to end and I think you will have a better picture of things.

(Hint) To see the dev-team's posts, click their name on one of their posts and it will take you to their profile page. Scroll down that page and click view recent posts and that will bring up every post they have made on the forum.

@heartastack
That's pretty much the gist of what I said in my "homeopathic" response, i.e. if you want the executive summary rather than catching up on the whole forum, read the dev's posts.  If you don't get it after that, move on, we can agree to disagree and go our separate ways.  Most people here have no interest in engaging with trolls, we can't make you see something you don't, you need to do your own due diligence and make up your own mind.  You asked where you could find out more, in a rather rude and abrupt manner I might add, and I politely suggested how you might do that.  Attacking my response as homeopathic is rather unfair, you should be thankful you didn't receive my originally drafted response to your terse enquiry.

I mean... look at this 1 week Octocharts...  What must a coin do more to be spotted and added by mintpal on it's own???  Grin

I'm quite liking the nice steady accumulation.  Yes we could do with more support and more volume, but too much hype and you get into damaging P&D territory.  It's a very fine balance.  What we really need is more of what we have, i.e. mature, level headed miners / traders, services when they are ready, followed by real world adoption.  Stay patient, keep the faith and most importantly, keep 888 out of the hands of the children.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][888][SCRYPT] OctoCoin ◦ The Power of Eight ◦ Don't Blink ◦ May Hardfork on: June 22, 2014, 07:10:20 AM
Summary or link of coin features?

The first page of this thread or octocoin.org will give you the basics.  However, that's just the coin parameters, you need to look beyond to appreciate what makes this coin really special.  If you don't have the time to catch up to those of us who've been here from day 1 by reading the whole thread, take a look at the posting history of octocoin (the dev's).  Their professionalism and conduct here speaks volumes but it's the hints of what's to come that really excites true Octo believers.  You may think "grandiose plans, all words, no substance" but there's just something about the way this coin has been managed from the outset, the way it's attracted a mature community, the way it's avoided p&d and managed sustained value and steady growth over several months which makes many of us here believe that if the dev team pull off their ambitious plans that this coin is going to be around for the long term and will really shake things up.

231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake *Bittrex* on: June 22, 2014, 05:02:55 AM
Coin Viking, Dev & Community,

Sorry to to take a while to get back to you. I still check into Saffron at least 1x/day and I must say I am a little bit disappointed with technical [ bells & whistles] direction we seem to be heading in. Maybe I am over reacting. Features are good dont get me wrong and ease of use for the general public is crucial but that should be only maximum 50% of our efforts. It is a direction solely based on the Dev's technical ability and only 50% of making Saffron useful as 'money'. Making Saffron useful as money is the real hard part that will require community, insight, organisation, delegation of work and last but not least capitalization[ ie tens to hundreds of thousands of SFR to pay fees, rewards, bounties]. In fairness the meeting with Unocoin is the biggest news this week, not the chat system. We need to know more about this and we should have been adequately discussing the direction we want to be taking with Unocoin before the actual meeting date. At a minimum we need a new whitepaper and since we have not posted a new serious document, I will posting sections of my previous whitepaper for active discussion. In my view the thread has gone off on a technical tone and I think we should bring it back to the 'middle ground'. We have a delegation of work & funding problem at Saffroncoin.

FIRST DISCUSSION - SaffronCoin Reserve Funds to pay fees, bounties, reward

section from HughJays previous white paper

" Expanded Premine/Public Coin Float

We will make submission to the community for an extended premine or public coin float of 250,000-500,000 Saffroncoins to assist future real world/online projects. This additional premine would have to approved and voted on by the community. Any use of this new premine would also have to be authorised and approved by the head Developer and any  2 committee heads.   An example of authorised use would be to reward a real world chain for accepting Saffroncoin eg. (redacted due to confidentiality). 'Real world retailer stores and shoppers will never refuse free money'. A rising Saffroncoin price creates a positive feedback loop. The funds would also be used in funding bounties for new feature development. This additional premine would be placed at a public address in the Saffroncoin Reserve Fund [ SCRF]and be matched by the community for a total of 500,000 - 1,000,000 Saffroncoin. Extremely Important in the above scenario is that the majority [>75%] of this new reserve will go towards real world promotion and NOT people who are already familiar with crypto currencies. This will eliminate any real or imagined risk of dumping on exchanges. Paper wallets may even be used and all oversight is to be the responsibility of a new Saffroncoin Audit committee. Target Date to start Jul 15 2014 "

[quote authorhe d=Coin_Viking link=topic=586320.msg7366528#msg7366528 date=1403029271]

Hey Hugh, just saw you asked me some questions a few pages back with respects to the possibility of additional funding for the coin. I am with you 100%, any good venture must be well funded for success. There is no argument there, and based on IRC chats everyone else is one the same page. There are ambitious ideas/plan afoot that will require investment/seed funds.

The two questions that must be answered:

  1) How much do we really need?

          This taps into the greater question of what we intend to do with said funds, how aggressive do we want to be in the various facets needed to promote, increase awareness and adoption. Personally, were we to create a "saffron development superfund" I would prefer we focus on how best to bolster and support the devs in building up the coin and its ecosystem (mobile wallets or any peripheral tech/application/website to further build out the infrastructure etc). Once we have a more mature ecosystem with more robust feature we could then explore the marketing/pr to the uninitiated to crypto, as barriers to adoption would be significantly lowered to the point that it becomes as simple a downloading an app on the phone. I think too many coins rush with the Pr etc to get price bumps but have yet to achieve a high enough degree of technology that can support the coin for mass adoption.

Again you make a compelling point that I think supports my point above. I am going to go out on a limb and say that I am not against providing even the Developer with additional income in SFR if it means he can work more hours per day. However for eg. we also need to pay an Android, Apple & Windows App Developer.

Do I think some amount should be allocated to marketing and PR? absolutely.. but it would be focused to mostly within the crypto scene for the moment (and its investors etc) and once the proper foundation built, then we could move to pushing into the more traditional spheres of business as you nicely alluded to (gen pop, brick and mortar etc). From the outset with my convos with the dev, market penetration into "real world" is the driving force and has always been, but such an endeavour requires that all the peices be in place because once the trigger is pulled there is no going back. I dont like pointing out other coins, but a certain coin pushed hard to get noticed in nascar.. and I've seen no really evidence that it has had much of an effect. Why? as outliined above, the ecosystem surrounding their coin has yet to reach a level of maturity enabling, anyone to use it without thinking or being intimidated by the tech etc.

Long winded answer, but i think you get my points. So a structured phased and planned rollout of services over X amount of time, bolstered by promos etc to encourage mining interest/ investor adopt which would be supported by this proposed superfund. Amounts of sfr required would be contingent on the progressive active dev an attainment of goals set forth. Whether the funding is also phased or generated all at once or sourced as need be would lead to question no.2

I understand what you are saying. Hopefully we can discuss as a community

   2) How would this be funded?

    It seems as though it really boils down to two options. An additional sfr reserve obtained from the total avail supply or community driven funding for projects on a case by case basis (or some variant, thereof).

      Codewise I'm not positive altering the block structure etc to extract X amount from the system would even be possible without forking the coin. But devs would have to offer their insight into this. Typically just trying to alter the block reward amount will conflict with the merkel hash (if I'm not mistaken) and cause errors/fork into a new coin. So we would be left with old saffron and saffron2.. not unlike CAI/CAIx. this is rather extreme in my opinion and a massive headache to exchange old version of saffron to new version of saffron etc etc.

Dev, Can you write-off this type of solution or is it feasible for the community to vote[new thread] on it ?

     A potentially more elegant solution would be for devs to intro in the next hard fork a superfund addr where say 2 SFR from every block gets funneled to this addr. In doing so the superfund would be perpetually funded. i've seen a few coins do this, i believe einsteinium may have been the first in which a small % of the block reward goes to fund science based projects voted on by the community. Some more recent coins, such as boostcoin have repurposed this feature to use for dev funding, which is what we would do, pending community approval.

Dev, Can you write-off this type of solution or is it feasible for the community to vote[new thread] on it ?

   The community funded approach carried out by manny coins has been successful provided there is enough engagement, this could be the main source of funding for various project but would require alot of community involvement. larger communities tend to be more succeful, the downside of this is that planned development can be delayed if the funding isnt on time or faill to reach its target and stagnates. i do like this idea, I feel as though it is viable and possible should another option be selected this could still very much serve for smaller goals/targets/side projects etc. Or be the main form of funding.. really depends on comm motivations.

It is the chicken and the egg situation and what we do above should help to grow the community to realise big investors who are willing to contribute to such a fund. I have already and still would.  Its a catch 22 situation. Grow the community = bigger source of funds <==> Bigger source of funds leads to growing the community.

I Think it needs to be stressed, are you document clearly mentioned as well that any action on any of these options would nned a majorty support from the community. So thats excellent.

100% Agreed

Everyone feel free to add your comments, questions etc.. I enjoy constructive debate of ideas and solutions. I feel as though this is what any crypto community would strive for at all times. So lets lead not only in innovation and adoption but also become what a crypto community really can and should be. cheers.

ps.. if i repeat things, or make spelling mistake.. wrote this on an iphone.. think I may now be cross-eyed.

Devs...

It might be an idea to change the title of this thread again...

It could be interpreted as "Don't Blink, may hard fork" for anybody who doesn't know the history and that the hard fork has passed without incident.  This may cause some confusion / uncertainty as to the future of Octo.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake *Bittrex* on: June 19, 2014, 09:37:13 PM

Why does everybody think the Blake algo is being instamined?

A single r9 290 will mine at more than 2.5 times the current network hashrate for Blake if that 1.2Gh figure is accurate.
Its an estimation. And how do you know the hasrate of 290 on sfr-version of blake? Please share the GPU miner with us Smiley
At this difficulty wallet-mining is pointless unless one has botnet running the wallet... Even then, mining cryptonight will be order of magnitude more profitable.

I don't know the hashrate of a 290 on sfr blake but I know it on the merge-mined blake256 coins.  An educated guess suggests it would be somewhere between 50-100% of that rate. And on that basis a single 290 would have a higher hashrate than the network does, hence my view that it's still only CPU miners in play.

I'm not actually mining Saffron any longer because there ISN'T an available GPU miner and the CPU in my rig is (deliberately) about as low end (and low power) as you can get.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake *Bittrex* on: June 19, 2014, 02:12:14 PM
What about external Blake256 miner, so mining to be possible outside the wallet? Is there any chance or possibility to be released such thing in near future at all?
I even don't insist on gpu-miner Cheesy , cpu-miner would do as well because if such miner is available the posbility of pool-mining is much better than the current solo-wallet-mining.

So let me get this straight.

There are people instamining on Blake and nobody gives a shit?

I make 30 coins per day with 1kwh of power and I should just resign and keep on doing it while these assholes mine for free?

Yeah I'm pretty angry too but someone has the skill to modify blake miner, so of course he deserves to instamine this for a while. Stop mining this if you think it is unprofitable and switch to others algos. I stop mine 2 days ago when I saw someone with the blake miner.

Do you have rough estimates of current Net Hashrate behind SFR Blake mining? I don't have enough initial data to be definitely sure if someone is gpu-minig this algo at the current Diff. The only thing I can declare is that with i5 2500K @ 4.2 GHz I have the following:
Code:

{
"blocks" : 129268,
"currentblocksize" : 1000,
"currentblocktx" : 0,
"pow_algo_id" : 4,
"pow_algo" : "blake",
"difficulty" : 54.78441463,
"difficulty_sha256d" : 308634.89838019,
"difficulty_scrypt" : 11.42804984,
"difficulty_groestl" : 80.22378746,
"difficulty_x11" : 32.37008138,
"difficulty_blake" : 54.78441463,
"errors" : "",
"generate" : true,
"genproclimit" : -1,
"hashespersec" : 2312029,
"pooledtx" : 0,
"testnet" : false
}

or 2.3 MH/s if I can see it right
2 or 3 days ago this was enough to hit a block every 1 to 2 hours
Now, if I'm lucky, this means one block for 24h
So, network has is >~ 1.2GH
In theory, someone could hire and run the wallet... but thats doubtful

Why does everybody think the Blake algo is being instamined?

A single r9 290 will mine at more than 2.5 times the current network hashrate for Blake if that 1.2Gh figure is accurate.
