I don't think so, sometimes a great project is not in top 100 marketcap because there's always a new project that collect more money and start with bigger marketcap. Coin like neblio for example is out of top 100 now but it is still a great coin, the dev is active and there's a lot of development regarding the project. You can expect bigger return with coin that's not in top 100 because their marketcap can increase a lot.

The longest ico i've ever seen is the eos one and for the others usually the ico only take about 1 month, maybe you count it from the pre ico? I think it is not necessary to have a long ico because if you advertise your project well you can collect enough money in 1 month rather than dragging it out for a long time, investor also don't want their money to be locked up for a long period so they prefer one with normal duration.

I will ignore any project that don't have a whitepaper because o don't want to invest in something unknown. Whitepaper is a very important thing for the project because it explain what the project are trying to do and that can make investor more certain about their investment.

I don't think that willa happen, gold is a store of value that has been used for a long time and crypto is still new so there's still a lot of speculation about it. Also gold is controlled by government so the price is stable. Right now crypto adoption is still small and people only use it for speculation purpose.

i don't encourage people to invest, especially if they don't have any background or experience in investing or economy. I do that because there's money involved so if they invest a large amount of money and make a bad decision, they'll most likely blame you for their loses. It's better that they don't know that i put my money into crypto, i will still explain crypto to them though if they ask.

For beginner it is very risky as the volatility nature of crypto is very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Also there's a lot of scammers in this space so if you are a beginner then you have to study a lot to avoid getting scammed. You also have to care a lot about security because there's a lot of phising site, if you enter your private key there then you'll lose all your money.
