221  Economy / Speculation / Re: Transferring 25k into Gox to buy at current prices on: February 14, 2014, 11:08:43 PM
I think it's fine to do this with a small percentage of your total investment in btc. Think of gox IOUs as a stock in the virtual currency space. You wouldn't go all in on just gox IOUs right?
222  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Mtgox locked my account with $40k because i used Bitinstant before on: February 13, 2014, 04:43:02 PM
Sorry to hear about your issue.

I would like to add that I have used BitInstant in the past and I'm a verified gox user. I'm still able to use the funding page, and I traded goxbtc with another gox user a couple of days ago.
223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: did any of you manage to get his coins out of Gox? on: February 11, 2014, 05:09:18 AM
Tonight I got everything out.
The first 3/4 I got out with some hustlin', being in time when the issues started, and doing a lot of small withdrawals.
The last 1/4 I got out by selling goxbtc to sturles and another guy on IRC.
All in all I lost 3% of my btc at gox due to their problems.

As a Vladimir Junior member you are expected to have control over the private key in which your 21 bitcoins are stored; they cannot be hold on an exchange such as Mt.Gox.

Like for one they are still fully staffed and not letting people go left and right

As if no one has ever turned up for work one day and found the doors chained shut.

There is no reasonable explanation for what people are experiencing from Gox on the BTC side of thing (Fiat problems are a totally different issue) that should have lasted for more than 20-60 minutes, tops. Of course, people should have been getting off of there months ago but this is *BAD*.

Bitcoin will prevail but we're up for an interesting few days ahead.

I can believe USD problems.  I can believe SEPA problems.

In isolation from the above, I can believe bitcoin client problems.

I am deeply troubled by JPY domestic withdrawal issues.

Put all 4 factors together at the same time and it is the exact behaviour of a company that is trading while insolvent.  Especially since this pressure has been building for such a long time.

I think (for one reason or another) that they have probably been technically insolvent since June when they stopped the USD wires.  That bought them some time.

It is only now that they have finally had a run on the bitcoin bank and exhausted their ability to string everyone along and the music has stopped.  Everyone in the room caught without a chair is SOL.

We will see. Gox has been claimed to be dead many times before. They make so much from fees, Karpales would have to drink about 40000 frappachinos a day to burn through that much money.

A lot of the volume at Gox could be generated by themselves.. in which case the amount of money they collect from fees could be a lot lower.
Another thing that rang suspicious to me is that mr. Karpeles mentioned somewhere (sorry, lost the source) that they had some fiat deposits into their bank account which they had credited into their user accounts, but were charged back by the user, and of course lost btc that way.

If mtgox doesn't have their clients' bitcoins, wouldn't that be bullish? A lot of people will not have the number of bitcoins they thought they had.

230  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX makes doublespend transactions for btc withdrawal request on: January 23, 2014, 11:51:28 AM
There is a nice web app, to look for your lost withdrawals from Gox giving possible reasons.

http://skanner.net/MtGox/mtgox_tx.php

Mine is showing LT : Large Transaction Size - The number of transactions on the input/outputs may be far too many for the applied fee meaning they will never be processed. You may need to get MtGox to double spend this and create a smaller transaction size.

Thanks, some people on IRC also pointed me to it. My transactions are in that list.
231  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX makes doublespend transactions for btc withdrawal request on: January 23, 2014, 10:35:11 AM
der_meister and damnek , you got your btc?
I have same problem , made a btc withdrawal on 21st, and still no trace of btc in my wallet.
Sent them a ticket and it hasn't even been assigned to a staff after 2 days.

They reissued my bitcoins the day after the first two withdrawals that went wrong (both made on the same day). I'm not sure whether this happened automatically or due to my support ticket, because they responded to my support ticket a couple of days later.

After that, I withdrew a few times more, again some transactions did not show up. I opened another support ticket and the first time they closed the ticket saying that everything was fine. Second time, they only reissued the bitcoins of one small withdrawal, but not the ones of the "larger" withdrawal (although they claimed to have sent it all), so still waiting for those.
232  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX makes doublespend transactions for btc withdrawal request on: January 21, 2014, 05:17:22 PM
I have the same issue, double spent transactions are being sent out. After some investigation, it looks like one of the inputs was spent a few hours earlier, while another input had sufficient funds inside it (which was 90% of the transaction). This makes me believe that this could be a genuine bug in their system, caused by synchronization issues.
233  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: January 21, 2014, 01:19:56 PM
It looks like mtgox is having btc withdrawal issues again. My tx are double spends. How soon can I expect this to be resolved?

After creating a support ticket, the missing transactions showed up. I tried withdrawing more bitcoins, but those again did not show up..
234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox Trading at 15% premium over everywhere else! on: January 21, 2014, 01:53:21 AM
There is another factor to take into consideration namely both AvaTrade and Plus500 write Bitcoin CFD's based on the MTGox price. AvaTrade just relaxed the margin requirements for Bitcoin from 10% to 5% today. This could account for the increase in the spread between MTGox and Bitstamp

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Maybe the time for decentralized exchanges has arrived.
