Goodfellas is on my list of shame. I need to watch it.

So a lynch mob, then? Or an elected authority, i.e. a government?
Which?
Depends on the infraction. The authority wouldn't be elected, it would be purchased by the participants. We've been all through that, and how it's a failure. You just stated that you buy those who will judge you and the opposite party. My authority is bigger, better and more expensive that yours. Way to go. Why would either bigger or more expensive be better? Lacking imagination, are you? I understand. When you're starry eyed about something, you you don't want to think too hard about the negatives.

Yes, in a thread like this, Wong Kar-Wai's films are the definitive films to be listed at the top. His films are poetic and existential masterpieces on love and longing. That bears repeating: Wong Kar-Wai's films are poetic and existential masterpieces on love and longing.Days of Being Wild is the first in Wong Kar-Wai's loose trilogy, comprised of Days of Being Wild, In the Mood for Love and 2046. Three Times is a film from the Taiwan New Wave director Hou Hsiao-hsien. The film is composed of three segments, the first of which is absolutely beautiful. See the very beginning of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqhLDTxODhYSpeaking of the Taiwan New Wave, and perhaps a smidgeon off topic, have you seen Edward Yang's Yi Yi? Now that's a masterpiece! I've also seen The Terrorizers from him, which is really good. But I so much want to see what is supposed to be his true masterpiece, A Brighter Summer Day. Film critic Tony Rayns says Yang's Taipei Story is excellent as well. See the trailer for Yi Yi here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F6tSorwYqwStay tuned for a few more Asian film recommendations... Yi Yi is already in my dvd collection...but also haven't seen it yet. Yi Yi needs to be watched pronto. You're doing yourself a serious disservice by prolonging something as great as Yi Yi. It's like this: you haven't yet watched it yet, so you don't know exactly what you're missing, so you go on prolonging it. Finally, one day, you'll watch it, and you'll just kick yourself for waiting so long.

Hlynur, so good to see your return to discussion of films. It's been lonely in this land devoid of cinephiles. I got your message. Haven't replied yet, obviously. Please pick back up the Asian films thread - plenty more to say, but it helps when there's someone else to converse with.
couldn't resist posting. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) will continue in asian movie thread this we when I've watched some of your recommendations. Don't feel too confident now to discuss about asian cinematography when I see your knowledge. At least I can contribute some of the gems I've stumbled upon. One doesn't need great knowledge. Just curiosity. A question here or there goes a long way. I'm always willing to share, but not so much when there's no back and forth.

The Day After http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085404/The original air date (on ABC) was November 20, 1983. Over 100 million Americans were estimated to have viewed the program. Still rated as the most watched ever TV movie on US television as of December, 2012 (not including miniseries), it was watched by 38.55 million households or 46.0% with a Neilsen share of 62%. Ahh. Thank you for clarifying. I don't recall seeing it.

I assume you're bumping this because you want to be reminded again that Wong Kar-Wai's trilogy is still the best?
Never heard of Wong Kar-Wai, sounds asiatic. Best romance is Pretty Women for me Pay attention very closely to what I said two posts above your reply to me.

Regarding that link above which I posted, it gives me goosebumps of pleasure every time I watch it. You guys who haven't heard of these movies, let me tell you, it has a major fan base. And the middle movie of the trilogy was voted the greatest film of the 21st Century in the Sight & Sound directors poll. Something to consider.
To think there was a time when I was unaware of these films and devoid of the pleasure from having watched them.

I love the scene from Kurosawa's Red Beard where the mistreated girl is nursing the young doctor back to health. The mood, the lighting, the atmosphere, the interplay between her and the doctor, all of it - just so wonderful.

My list is far too long ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I'm at 2534 movies I want to watch and counting. In comparison, I've only seen 815 ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) Just as long as you put the following directors on your list and establish a high priority for them, you'll be alright: Yasujiro Ozu Kenji Mizoguchi Mikio Naruse Wong Kar-Wai Edward Yang

Matrix. -No need to explain why.
Donnie darko is also a good movie.
I've seen both. Have you seen some of the movies I've recommended to compare? In other words, I stand from the position of having seen your two choices and the ones I've mentioned. Do you stand from the same position?

sci fi is my genre of choice for movies romance is way down at the bottom of the list
Where does 2001: A Space Odyssey rank on your sci-fi list? If you were to treat Teshigahara's masterpiece The Face of Another as sci-fi, how would you rank it? Do you consider 2046 to be sci-fi?
