Why would you want to catch a dump with toilet paper?

I think it would be really cool to see what the exe installed. I'd love to run it in a vm.

i hoarded all of mine. i got so many i dont know what to do with them.
You seem to have a scammer tag. Should I judge you by that and say that there are probably people you should give the coin back to?
224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I made a giant, overpriced mining rig on: March 27, 2013, 05:58:56 AM
So you have decided to keep everything? And bitpop has decided to keep trolling because he is bored?

I would like to see how this pans out but purchasing 750BTC with that money now would have been a better investment. My calculations and predictions tell me that I should expect less than 2BTC per week at 60GH/s by the end of this year.

Just to make sure, $60K is something you are willing to lose? Are you in that kind of financial position?

Any counter-proof that Apple stock is not a ponzi scheme?

$130+ billion a year in revenue.

You are batshit stupid.
Ever heard of sarcasm?
Ever heard of being polite?
Ever heard of not being rude?
----------------------------------------------------
Edit: Nevermind. I should have seen that coming by your first post. You probably posted something trolly and rude while I was editing this post. It seems proper conversations about the topic of bitcoin and ponzi schemes cannot be discussed. I was hoping to incite some interesting comparisons and discussions from others with my post but I think this thread is just troll. I am done here. I advise others to do the same to prevent bumping by anyone except anonymint
yucca thanks for your comment, because even comments that show complete lack of understanding of the valuation of money, are useful inputs for our analysis of behavior of bitcoiners.

Which is unarguably condescending and rude.
226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I made a giant, overpriced mining rig on: March 27, 2013, 03:38:27 AM
So...? Were you trolling us or did you really buy 60K worth of equipment without properly researching Bitcoin? You didn't even know how mining worked? Don't tell me you thought it would be a good idea to mine on all those CPU cores too?

Because spending 60K on hardware instead of Bitcoin means you expected to make back 750BTC with (12 GPUs X 4 systems X 600MH/s (assuming they are all 7970s)=) 28.8GH/s

228  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Building a Miner Resources on: March 25, 2013, 11:51:38 PM
Here is my two cents:

CPU: A4-5300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113283
Why? Cheap cpu, two cores (just in case) and as a bonus, you can get a few extra MH/s with the APU

Motherboard: anything with 3x PCIe x4 or higher
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157339
Why? quad rigs are harder to get the parts for and harder to keep cool. They are also harder to get a powerful enough PSU for

PSU: Any 1000W Corsair or Seasonic
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139014
Why? Because the PSU is the last thing you want to cheap out on. not enough power, or a bad PSU means an entire rig is down. Another reason to stick to 3x GPU instead of 4x GPU rigs.
Seasonic makes the most reliable Power supplies. Seasonic makes the power supplies for Corsair.

RAM: 4GB of corsair or mushkin
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233349
Why? Because it's cheap and I trust mushkin and corsair. I have no real basis for this trust though.

Case: make one yourself out of wood. Set it up in a rack style with 1 system on each level. Set it up as an open-air system.
why? because it is fun and will be easier to manage than what you could buy

storage/OS space: a hard drive. Western Digital blue or black
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136567
why? because I have good experiences with WD warranty. They have an option where they send you a new drive first, then you send the defective back. This will reduce your downtime because of a failed drive.

and finally....
The video cards:

You want 3 for each system. Get them where you can and get the best deals you can find. 5970s, 7970s, etc. This is where you will spend the rest of your money so balance it out accordingly. There are no issues with mixing and matching video card generations as crossfire is not a part of mining.

Consider cooling. I personally would never use a reference cooler for mining. Also, XFX single fan coolers are total garbage. My experiences with sapphire custom cooling have been good. I also read a lot about and if I were to purchase a 7970, it would be one of the 3-fan gigabyte ones.

I would recommend installing and running linux to get the most out of your overclocks.
229  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet misunderstanding. on: March 25, 2013, 11:18:01 PM
You should probably treat this like you treat money right now. How secure is the wallet in your back pocket?

So my suggestions are to have the following and to move money around depending on your need for access:
offline computer: the computer catches up with the blockchain. The computer's OS (preferably linux) is newly installed and you do not use the internet for anything except bitcoin. After it catches up with the blockchain, you copy the wallet.dat file to a thumb drive and place it in a fireproof safe lock box. Write down or email yourself the address and never turn the computer on unless you want to withdraw funds. This is like your bank account.

create an android wallet. This is like your real wallet. Most people have a limit because they are afraid of being mugged.

create a normal wallet on your computer. This is moderately safe if you take precautions. Others can suggest secure software but I have had no issues with the satoshi client and an encrypted wallet.dat

Create an online wallet and treat it like you would money you pre-pay to any online services.

Put money in these accounts based on the security/ convenience you are willing to risk. This is just an overview and my ideas. I'm sure others can come up with more ideas, etc. Personally, I have an online computer that is dedicated for my Bitcoins. I will likely plan in the future to have more secure storage locations like listed above as my value of BTC grows. I also have an android wallet that I have 0.64USD in right now in bitcoins Tongue

231  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Where can I learn in more detail exactly what the computers are doing to mine? on: March 25, 2013, 10:38:20 PM
I keep seeing over and over that "to mine bitcoins your computer has to solve mathematical puzzels".  OK that's a little vague.  Where can I learn more about what exactly is required to generate a block and how the difficulty changes?  I wouldn't understand the code itself but a technical paper with some diagrams would be interesting.
Start with this picture:

Then read up on the topics that interest you the most.
232  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I made a giant, overpriced mining rig on: March 25, 2013, 10:35:38 PM
Failover? Redundancy? can you elaborate further on those topics? because I don't think they apply to the bitcoin world unless we are talking about a pool that needs to be up 24x7 or a market exchange, but from the miner's perspective?

Failover means that when , lets say, The State of Missouri is destroyed in an act of clumsiness typical of that state and my rig is destroyed with it, my other rig either surrenders half of its tasks and takes on the tasks of the dead Missouri rig or it takes over in full by creating more instances to make up for those lost.  This is why I need huge logging space because the failover rig will have to collect data from the failed rig.  The colos provide 24/7 AC and backup power so I figured I might as well take advantage of them.

Redundant means they are the same and have the ability to failover.
I think what he was asking is how you are making this work for bitcoin.
Failing over the running applications does not help you because there is no "progress" in bitcoin mining.
233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to fix unconfirmed? on: March 25, 2013, 10:14:57 PM

I recommend all noobs read this article about transaction fees, but I may be a little biased Wink

Cheesy lol wow. All those domains must have been expensive. Ever heard of subdomains?
235  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please come answer my annoying noob questions on: March 25, 2013, 05:49:23 AM
Sorry, for now I don't have direct links. But most of what I found is easy to find on google or the bitcoin wiki

1a- What books/articles would you recommend on the general subject of bitcoin? (direct to kindle books or links would be lovely)
The Bitcoin whitepaper by Satoshi
browse the bitcoin wiki
I found other good articles. If I get the time this week I'll try to dig them up again

1b- What books/articles would you recommend on bitcoin mining?
Same as above. Also, this picture:
http://spectrum.ieee.org/img/06Bitcoin-1338412974774.jpg

2- What site is the safest/easiest way to buy bitcoin?
In which country do you reside? I could tell you all about Canada and my experiences and I can tell you a bit about the US.

3- How the fuck do I get my laptop (macbook) to stop changing bitcoin to bit coin?
You will have to tell us what program is auto-correcting this. Your Safari? Microsoft word?
Easy solution: Stop using a Macbook.

4- What interesting theories/concepts or recurring thread topics are there that I should familiarize myself with?
*bitcoin difficulty
*peer-to-peer
*I'll add more when I check this thread again and am not so tired.

5- Why do men have nipples?
This is because we are all conceived based on the same "template." It might be easier to see it as we are all conceived as female, then if our genetics choose male, then we become male.
**disclaimer: my knowledge of why we have nipples is limited. I think I watched some tv show that briefly covered it like 5 years ago.**
236  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Decentralised crime fighting using private set intersection protocols on: March 25, 2013, 05:29:11 AM
I think it is helpfull to think of Gold in this discussion.

Guld used in chrims is still just gold. No reason to blacklist it or burn it in hell.

Chriminals should be delt with in court not in the money transfer system.
This.

And on that note, let's let this thread die.

238  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ATI Radeon X300 SE good to mine? on: March 25, 2013, 12:42:21 AM
AMD did not introduce OpenCL support until the HD 4000 series. So...

A definitive no. You can't mine on them at all.
239  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Can some sort of miner be run with the phone line's power, not making it "busy"? on: March 25, 2013, 12:41:17 AM
Even a raspberry pi is twice the power requirement. I mean, you can mine on its CPU but...
240  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Creating little mining rig network on: March 24, 2013, 07:16:01 PM
How to check number of connected persons and amount of their Mh/s using bitcoin qt?
To my knowledge, this cannot be done. Which is what I meant by stats before.
At least, I haven't found way, though my use of bitcoind for mining directly is limited.
