A horrible Terracoin attack happened recently. Hundreds of thousands of TRC were created and disappeared.

One attacker (ID on bter: m100003-6399 and m100002-12129) deposited around 120k TRC on Bter.com during the TRC network attack and dumped more than half of them.
The attacker withdrew about 50BTC value (in BTC, LTC, FTC, TRC, etc) from Bter successfully before we disabled his accounts.
Some of his deposits are listed below. The deposits are confirmed normally without any problem but later the confirmations all became zero and all he deposited TRC disappeared.

We have disabled the TRC trade.
We need to reverse all the trading transactions people made with the attackers IDs m100002 and m100003.
BTCs will be credited back the Bter users' accounts who are affected so that they can get their BTC back.
Bter will take all the loss during the attack.

We need time to handle all the affected transactions very carefully. Please be patient.

I am sorry for all the trouble to Bter users during this event. We are doing our best to handle it.

没有可比性。模式、实力都不一样。
都知道SHA256 ASIC门槛低。我们的财力完全足够研发130nm,110nm ASIC芯片,但是目前市场上ASIC芯片 竞争非常激烈,投入ASIC研发生产并不是个聪明的方案,风险极高,收益下降很快
在这种形式下,从多家采购性价比最高的芯片,快速生成矿机,完成算力部署,是最保险的方案,而且利润率不见得低
门槛低不意味着谁都可以做。现在研发130/110nm?没人哪个团队会这么做吧。
现在卖芯片的只有Avalon吧,坑过多少人了。
Bitfury的还不好买,BFL就更不用说了。
芯片受制于人,长期发展很难保证。


2个月前,只有avalon一家芯片对外销售。1个月前,BFL对外销售芯片,性价比稍高,供货周期差不多。2星期前bitfury对外销售芯片,目前供货充足,性价比更高,供货周期类似。
当前正在研发新品的更是不下10家:KnC,gripchip,btcgarden,labcoin ....,可以预计,很快将会有更多的芯片选择。
我们将会与ASIC团队合作,解决芯片供应问题。

比特币矿机会是一个产业,自己全部包揽所有的工作对自己,对行业都不见得是好事情。

我们会跟芯片厂商合作,争取拿到一些厂商的折扣,优先供货。

其实对我们来说在BTCT或者bitfunder上线是完全没有区别的。
但是在他们平台上线,需要申请,上线需要时间。挖矿行业时间就是金钱,为了尽快启动IPO,快速部署算力,我们选择先在Bter上线。
另外Bter上面分红也非常方便,股票交易费为 0

我们也考虑在第三方平台上线会更让人信任,所以接下来,我们会申请在BTCT上线,到时候大家也可以去交易。

Sure. We are going reinvest and keep increasing our hashrate to around 10-15% of total network hash power.
The percentage is depending on how fast the network hashing power grows

So,where is the chip?

We ordered 20k chips in May and June for this project. 10k has already been sold in pre-orders to our Chinese customers and the other 10k will be deployed in our mining farm in the end of August of the beginning of September depending on the arrival date of the chips. MYMINER可流通算力股 IPO

The reason is that we cannot avoid the potential legal risks in China. Collecting funds from

MYMINER Project Introduction

MYMINER is a bitcoin mining project operated and maintained by Bitcoin Technology Incorporated (short for BTI ) registered in the  British Virgin Islands,  who is also the owner of the well-known Bter.com crypto-currency exchange platform.  In this project, BTI doesn’t develop or produce ASIC chips. Instead, BTI purchases ASIC chips massively from the existing ASIC chip providers (Avalon, Bitfury, BFL, KcN, etc.) all over the world and manufacture bitcoin miners in batches with very low cost in China. By using the self- manufactured bitcoin miners, BTI deploy bitcoin mining farms in China where the electricity rate is extremely low. All bitcoin miners hosted by BTI are overclocked to the top stable state to maximum the hashing efficiency. At the same time, BTI sells self- manufactured bitcoin miners to public.

MYMINER IPO

BTI issues at most 700,000 MYMINER shares to public for raising up to 10500 BTC capital. The price of each share is 0.015BTC. Each share gets 1/1,000,000 dividend and has 1/1,400,000 voting power. After the MYMINER shares are fully issued, MYMINER shareholders and BTI get 50% voting power each and share 70% and 30%, respectively, of the total profits from MYMINER project. The dividend will be paid weekly after the first dividend payment begins. The dividend payment is scheduled to begin in September 2013 when the mining farms start operating. MYMINER project’s profits come from both the bitcoin mining and the bitcoin miner selling incomes. The profits will be paid to MYMINER shareholders in 100% as dividend before MYMINER shareholders get their investments back against the IPO price. Net profits calculation
Gross profits (in BTC) = total BTC mined + total income of selling bitcoin miners converted to BTC
Total costs (in BTC)=Equipment costs(chips, other electronic parts, components, productions, logistics) + Maintenance costs(electricity, hosting space rental, internet accessing) + R&D costs + labour costs
Net profits=Gross profits – Total costs

Dividend payment
Each share can get 1/1,000,000 dividend of the net profits.  The dividend will be paid weekly to the shareholders in BTC to their accounts on Bter.com. Why MYMINER project is attractive
The Bitcoin mining is very profitable and attracted many individual miners and teams to participate. The competition of this business is getting fierce and has entered a professional stage, which competes in technology, capital, equipment cost, operating cost, etc.
The technology ability and operation capability of BTI have been displayed and recognized through “Bter.com project”. Bter.com is very popular bitcoin exchange platform in China. BTI (former Bter team) started the MYMINER project in May 2013.  Two batches of Avalon ASIC chips have been ordered in May and June. BTI has very strong technical capability to manufacture low cost Bitcoin miners and massively deploy mining farms. Compared with other mining participants, BTI’s superiorities are as follows.
1.   BTI purchases ASIC chips and other electronic components massively to lower the parts cost by more than 30%. BTI cooperates with OEM factories in Shenzhen, China to lower the manufacturing cost by up to 30%. All hosted bitcoin miners are overclocked to the top stable status to gain up to 20% extra hashing power.  
2.   MYMINER mining farms will be deployed in areas in China with very low electricity cost which is only 20%-50% of that in other countries such as USA.
3.   MYMINER project uses self-build mining pool/solo-mining which is more stable than public mining pool, less exposed to cyber attacking and save 3%-5% mining pool cost.
Therefore, the overall mining costs of MYMINER’s mining farms are very competitive, which means this project is quite profitable and will last for long. BTI will keep increasing the hashing power and make it hovering at around 10-15% of the total network hashing power. In the meantime, the self-manufactured bitcoin miners are sold to public to get more profits.

Hashing power deployment schedule
BTI has already ordered 20,000 Avalon chips in May and June. Half of these chips have been consumed in bitcoin miner pre-orders to Chinese customers. The other half will be deployed in the first mining farm.  If the MYMINR IPO success,  BTI will keep producing bitcoin miners and scheduled to deploy 20-50TH/s hashing power before November. MYMINER will continuously increase hashing power until 10%-15% of the total network hashing power.

Q1: Why IPO while you have already heavily invested by yourself?

Decentralize hashing power to protect bitcoin ecosystem and get investments to increase MYMINER project’s scale to make it more efficiency and competitive.

Q2:  Why BTI is trusted?

BTI is the owner and operator of  Bter.com . Bter.com is a very popular bitcoin exchange platform in China. It is also well-known as an crypto-currency exchange platform in the English world.  Currently Bter.com has more than 12,000 registered users and 10,000 daily visits and more than 1 million daily hits (including bots).  

BTI (former Bter team) started the MYMINER project in May 2013.  Two batches of Avalon ASIC chips have been ordered in May and June. Hundreds of bitcoin miners have been sold in pre-order to Chinese customers.  The bitcoin miner manufacturing is arranged to start as soon as Avalon ASIC chips are received in Shenzhen, China in August.  Bter team is the only team who has worked out and demonstrated the BBKcoins K16 mining board in China as early as July 15. Q3: How does BTI maximally lower MYMINER shareholders’ risk?

To maximally lower MYMINER shareholders’ risk, BTI pays all profits of MYMINER project to MYMINER shareholders until they break even against the IPO price. In other word, if eventually BTI issued Y MYMINER shares,  the shareholders can receive 1/Y dividend per share until they get their investments back in 0.015BTC per share.  Thereafter, the shareholders get 1/1,000,000 dividend per share.

Q4: How to guarantee the transparency of the profit dividend?

BTI will publish income and costs reports regularly on MYMINER project’s official website “myminer.com”.  Information about mining income, miner selling income and hashing power, etc. will be accessible to shareholder in videos, pictures or real time data.

Q5: Why don’t get investment from angel investors?

Bitcoin is a brand new area, angel investors know very less about this business. On the other side, solo investor is not good for the decentralization.

Q6: Why don’t IPO until all hashing power is deployed?

The key competition in Bitcoin industry is time. The IPO process will take time, while the deployment of hashing power will also take time. We have already purchased parts and components months ago to save as much time as possible to deploy hashing power. Next, during/after the IPO process, we will spend more money to deploy more hashing power ASAP.

Q7: How to determine if the IPO succeeds or not?

BTI has invested more than 2000BTC in chips/components purchasing, mining board manufacturing, R&D, etc. BTI plans to raise at least 2000BTC to expand MYMINER project’s scale. If the IPO raises no less than  2000BTC, then the IPO is success. After the IPO raises more than 4000BTC, BTI can stop issuing MYMINER shares at any time.

Q8:  What if the IPO fails?

If BTI failed to raise more than 2000BTC in the IPO, BTI will return BTC to all investors in 100%.

From the chip statistics, I can see that some time 15 chips are working but at most time 13 chips.
Things I can think to check:

- obviously check power to each chip, btut it hash multiple connections for power so make sure it's getting to all of them. It's pretty hard to fully test that since the pads are underneath. So you have to kind of go by inspection and whether it looks like it's "dry".

- check the reset pin, it needs to be high. Don't measure at the resistor but try to get right to the pin. If it's still low then it's being held in reset.

- check the clock is getting to those chips.

- If the chips are both sequential in the chain, then the first will block the second, so focus first on the one lower in the chain. I don't have a good diagram yet - todo. The chain order is

Bank 0: U6, U8, U5, U7, U2, U4, U1, U3
Bank 1: U9, U11, U10, U12, U13, U15, U14, U16

The weird order is because I laid out the chips before we had the docs, so took a guess as to which way the pins oriented for chaining.

- what method did you use for soldering ASICs? oven or reflow air gun? I had one that shorted power and I couldn't see it. I was lucky that reheating with the air gun and giving it a small bump with tweezers got the bridge under to clear. I've found that less paste is better than more.

- if you have a scope then view the data inputs, and chain outputs.

- you can alter the code that sets up the NonceRange values to push zeros for other chips and a start value for that chip close to the expected nonce. That will have that chip find it first before others, so if triggering then you should see what it outputs. But you cannot know if it actually came from that chip except by timing - quickly, or later in the the cycle. Init to just before the nonce on that chip and just after for others gives max difference between them.

- note the chip order above. If any chip is not working then ones after it could be but may not get data from up the chain.

That's all that pops into my head atm.

Thanks a lot for your information and great contribution. I have to say this is very very useful for people who are debugging this board.

I used a reflow air gun for soldering ASICs one by one. After soldering each ASIC, I double checked every PIN to make sure the power, GND, CLK, config, report were correct on my oscilloscope. When the ASIC became hot after powered on and the config signal came out at the output PINs, I knew it worked and I would do the next one.

I have moved from a desktop to a laptop and the HW error rate drops to less than 5%. It has been running for 4 hours at 256MHz hashing stably at 3.0~3.2GH/s on eligius.st. Here's chip statistics

It shows that one chip returns only 5 nonces, one returns 10 and another one returns 0 in 4 hours. The rest 13 chips are all working as expected (256M * 13 * 0.95 =3.162G).
I think maybe the 3 problem ASICs are also working but their reports cannot be totally captured by the PIC. Since I soldered chips and tested them in cgminer one by one, I am pretty sure the problem ASICs are located at the half board far from the PIC.
This may indicate that you need to pay some attention on the PCB wire routing for the report PINs of the ASICs far from the PIC.

I will use your method to locate the problem ASICs and hopefully the real reason can be identified soon.

I've added the inverters on mine. Immediately before PIC one each on clk and data.
Same as clock buffer - NL27WZ14.
But even before that I was getting much better error rates. I consider 3-5% to be bad enough and on my notebook without hub that's what I get. The hub doesn't do as well as the RaspPi though. It consistently gets <1%.

The new board revision has both Dual NOR gate and inverters, I've completed it now except for adding beads on the USB signals. I worked all night on the ferrite beads on the ASICs, moving the PIC to make room for the beads, and generally improving the routing here or there.

Excellent work, BBKCoins! I will do more test trying to improve the error rate and I will let you know when I have new findings.

If I hook up my USB via a cheap pocket hub to my notebook the error rate drops right off to < 1% (short test so far). So there's a quick fix for those wanting to see if the USB noise is causing the error issues.
My guess is that the hub has correct EMI filtering beads on it's connections and acts as the filter we need.

Now I have all the 16 chips mounted on the board running at 256MHZ. The HW error rate is higher than before at ~ 30%.
If I lower the freq to 128MHz, the HW error rate drops to less than 10%.

From the chip statistics, I can see that some time 15 chips are working but at most time 13 chips.

I just grabbed a 4 port USB hub the same as this

but it doesn't help the HW.

I think the key is the report signal clock generation circuit or the capacitor value (I am using 30pF).
I don't know why your clock signal is so sharp. Are you using 74AUP1G02 NOR gate?


Update:

The error rate lowers to ~5% @256MHz after I moved from a desktop to a laptop.

2. pull the USB conn off board and test with 3 ferrite beads. Use a 120 ohm on the D+ D- lines, and a 220 ohm on the GND connection USB GND to board GND. The specific parts are:

BLM18BB121SN1D  120 ohm, 200mA
BLM21PG221SN1D  220 ohm,  2A



FYI, I use a USB line with a ferrite bead on it like this


I guess this is a different ferrite bead which isn't connected to any line as shown in this picutre

This ferrite bead has no help. I will test yours when I have them in hand.

I would like to share my experiences so that you can have more samples to evaluate your design and find the potential instability

As I mentioned before I am using the exact circuit as you drew for the clock generation with RC values 100ohm and 30Pf.  The two NOR gates are all 74AUP1G02 on your BOM. From my oscilloscope I can see that the rising and falling edge are not as sharp as yours but better than using only one NOR gate.

I mounted 8 chips on the board and currently 6 chips are fully working. I have checked pins of the last two chips again and again. I cannot find any soldering problem and all the signals are correct (clock, config, report, powers). I'll re-solder them later.

I have been running this board for a while (~ 1 hour) at 300MHz. The HW is above 10% which is similar to terrahash's board. Here's the statistics

I want to thank you for your great work. The board is working basically. However, I have to say when it's massively produced, HW might be a big issue. Some boards like yours may work great with low HW but others like mine and terrahash's may not.

I am on Ubuntu.

Update: I changed the delay to 1 usec only (that is one micro sec), and its still working. Removing the delay again breaks it, and cgminer starts hanging for 1-2 minutes. I am quiet positive there is an issue with threading/locking.

Very odd. I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and I don't have this problem.
Or did you pull updates from cgminer github? I used 3.3.1 for mine but have not pulled down any updates since.

I cloned cgminer from github on July 11, 11:52 EDT(yesterday) on Debian 7 in a Thinkpad T500 laptop.
I repeated this issue today on Debian 7 in VMWare player running on Windows(timeout 999ms).
