That guy would forever remember and curse the day that he choose to make such a transaction. I really hope that it wasn’t all ththat bitcoins that he had and that he didn’t make other transactions like this.

PEARLS BEFORE SWINES:  Undecided
Pics are still in the same location for anyone interested.  I didn't trade bitcoins for the child - she's my daughter, Amy.  Only the pizza was traded.

2203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Plans for 8th Annual Bitcoin Pizza Day? on: May 23, 2018, 07:05:57 PM
And today, 3 pizzas were bought and enjoyed for 1 million satoshi Wink Thank you Manish, the selections were delicious and the Bitcoin well spent. Maybe one day, this will be worth millions too, eh?

Guys like Laszlo did every bit for our ecosystem as any developer ever did. He was one of the first to give "real world" value to this thing we take for granted, and I like to think that every transaction, spend, purchase we make for things we need in our daily lives plays a role in how people will view Bitcoin years from now.

This was so cool. I don't have any place around that would accept BTC for a Pizza. Yet, I am a proud Pizza-bitcoiner now having bought it for you. It felt awesome. Was so much better than filling out the CC info, Name, Address, waiting for an OTP. Thanks for the opportunity..

Maybe bitcoiners should start a tradition of buying stuff for each other with on festivals and celebrations. With Bitcoin of course.

I have a pact with a friend of mine and we contribute to buy stuff for each other on birthdays. Stuff that you wouldn't buy by yourself because they feel like an unnecessary expense. For example, I love DC comics but they cost like 3000 INR for a hardcover (Injustice-Full Vol). So she bought it for me on my birthday. She had her eyes on some costly "Friends" sitcom memorabilia but it felt too much of a waste to buy it herself, so I gifted that.  Its a neat way for us to stay in touch with those old habits as we grow up and leave the little things behind. I hope this thread and our exchange gives the good people reading this some ideas. Smiley

EDIT: A Million Satoshi received!!
2204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Plans for 8th Annual Bitcoin Pizza Day? on: May 23, 2018, 09:09:29 AM
Ya right . We'd rather celebrate the existence of bitcoin rather than any other unimportant events because if bitcoin wAsnt invented we cant now be a little wealthy right now. However i guess these kind of celebration is only for big bitcoin investors or users and it isnt really recomended for most of the people who aint earning that much ( including me ). Id rather celebrate my own birthday  because that is more important than bitcoin or any other events.

Yet i would be happy and most of the users here will be happy if someone can host a special giveaway in order to celebrate some of the bitcoins memorable events.
Hello Pinoyden and Kasemin. (And others who want to parrot them to increase their post count).

22 May is the day when 2 Pizzas were bought for 10K BTC. This is almost 85 Milllion USD today. If it was not for people like laszlo, bitcoin would never be where it is today.
Laszlo was the guy who first tried mining with a GPU. Do you realize the kind of work he would have put into it? Sure he was an experienced programmer but realize that people like him took it upon themselves to work on this technology (without the greed for reward) and make it popular. This is what enables millions like you & me today, to "earn a little".

Nothing is perfect but in this cherished past, there was a passion, honesty, hardwork and earnestness behind these actions. Something which is impossible to come by, now that money is involved. People remember that and want to celebrate that. This is as important a day as any can be.

So, for a moment, please leave this pettiness behind. Stop trying to evoke sympathy by self-pitying or begging and for heaven's sake, Angry just for once, be glad and thankful you are here. Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! Spend what you can.

2205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Plans for 8th Annual Bitcoin Pizza Day? on: May 23, 2018, 06:31:38 AM
Well, I'm in a good mood and have never celebrated the day so here is my "contribution". If anyone wants to send me pizza for Bitcoin today, I'll take three large ones with an address in PM, for 0.01 BTC (they are worth less than half that at the moment). I can only accept one offer and will update this post when I do... I can't eat more than 3 unfortunately!

No escrow, you're just gonna have to trust me like people trusted Laszlo 8 years ago Wink
ME ME! Looks like I am the first one who gets to try this.. Smiley

Never done this before but I would love to try and order an international pizza. PM me your address.

OK! You're getting a PM from me, we can take our time to get things done over forum and PM. I neglected to mention a max time but am aware most of the world is half a day ahead of me. A bit late to do it right now (way past dinner here) but I'll make sure you get your Bitcoin for pizza, provided all goes well of course. On to our own small piece of history Wink

So our time-zones are making delaying the celebrations a bit.. Tongue Waiting for some inputs. It remains to be seen what hurdles my country's "awesome" currency laws are going to throw up.
By the way, the site i found even accepts BTC. How cool is that? I am sure i'll have a last resort to do this.. Cool

Edited for the re-phrasing

Hi again,

I was able to reach him directly, after going through another contact (he didn't get/respond to) our messages on telegram for like a week or so.

eventually we heard back from him, where our founder flipped.

we distributed 1m MNL tokens to atriz on/around 21 March.. like 300k tokens were paid to some Bounters (translators)

HE REFUNDED US 700K TOKENS BACK

we will be taking over the bounty distribution this week.

sorry for causing more trouble, it was unintended.

Sorry to everybody else who had a bad experience

MNL Team

Glad that got resolved. Thanks to this LOL moment.. Cheesy Cheesy
See, my pseudo-code advice worked easily.
2209  Economy / Economics / Re: New York City Launches First Blockchain Initiatives on: May 22, 2018, 05:36:08 PM
How far have we progressed from New York trying to stomp out the competition by introducing the "BitLicence" and creating a barrier to entry for small Bitcoin Businesses, to them embracing Blockchain technology like this? Some might say that they are backing the competition by doing this and sabotaging Bitcoin once again.

I think, if they open their city to all Crypto currencies and not just some Blockchain based solutions that are endorsed by them, then people would support this endeavour.  Wink

Isn't bitcoin more of a Silicon Valley darling. Why not have the conference at the West coast rather than New York. Maybe when the conferences move to SV, we can take them more seriously than the underwhelming gathering that Consensus turned out to be.

And it does look like that the Blockchain buzzword is being thrown around to discredit bitcoin. There is a simultaneous push on BCash with Roger Ver getting airtime at CNBC (Posiibly orchestrated). Frankly, Pushing BCash as the 'real bitcoin' makes bitcoin look like a joke. The way Roger repeats the same one-liners in every one of his interviews and keeps saying "Bitcoin Cash" with the longish "shhhh", it makes the 'real bitcoin' look like a joke.

Can't help but think that these are all concerted.

2210  Economy / Economics / Re: China agrees to ‘substantially reduce trade deficit’ to avoid trade war with US on: May 22, 2018, 05:07:29 PM
--snip--
The trade deficit reduction will increase both the countries' national income as companies from them will surely take advantage of the new rates. This is clearly a move where both benefit I am wondering why the leaders are acting up like they don't want this trade deficit reduction in the first place.

This is not a move where both will benefit. USA has the trade deficit while China has the trade surplus. China has agreed to reduce the trade deficit by buying more "Agricultural goods" from America. In return it avoids the trade barriers that were being threatened. These trade barriers were supposed to discourage the manufacturing of High technology products in China by American companies.

An interesting aspect of American companies taking the advantage of cheap manufacturing in China is that the Chinese insist on obtaining the Know-how of manufacturing. Essentially they get to piggyback on the technological improvements and design made by the Americans. in return, Americans get to sell more wheat to them.
How is this supposed to be a good deal?? China will never leave its agenda of world domination. It prepares an army of zombie workers fed on state propaganda, all the while ensuring that it can use reverse engineered technology to advance their own research by many more years. Like i said, the Chinese act like a single, focussed, selfish man. They are very good at doing and saying whatever is necessary for the moment.
2211  Economy / Economics / Re: Amazon's Mechanical Turk Alternative For Cryptocurrencies on: May 22, 2018, 04:54:05 PM
Earn.com has a lot of users who will be doing a lot of small value transactions. Coinbase is the exchange of choice for lot of Americans and people in the west. That means a lot of micropayments. How do they plan to process all those transactions?

The only thing this can mean is that coinbase is looking to implement Lightning Network and be one of the large nodes. The freelancing community on earn.com is already a big userbase of bitcoin users. If this were to really happen, I think this'll be a strong push for LN adoption. Bitcoin will have to traverse the regulated territory as well as the privacy-loving user territory. Pretty sure it can manage both.
2212  Local / India / Re: How are bitcoin exchanges/wallets surviving without banking support? on: May 22, 2018, 04:25:54 PM
They are not only surviving but continue to thrive. Zebpay has been adding cryptocurrency pairs continuously for the last few days. They have also enabled BTC trading so that is keeping the boat afloat for now. Apart from the exchanges, the blockchain startups are migrating to favorable shores.

This is a technology that India could really take advantage of with its vast population with software literacy but the government is showing a lack of foresight. Now the SC hearing has been postponed which means there may come a situation when the deadline is over and all kind of INR transactions will be blocked. It'll be interesting to see if the big players may use this opportunity to consolidate.
2213  Local / India / Re: Is regulations good for Crypto currency trading on: May 22, 2018, 04:19:07 PM
--snip--
dont you think that certain degree of regulations are needed to protect the retail investors. On the other hand bringing regulations is altogether hindering the concept of decentralization, what block chain technology emphasizes on.

Certain degree of regulation is now inevitable whether we want it or not. It is difficult to expect something sensible from the Indian government and the status-quoist bureaucracy. These are the license Raj people and I am sure they are busy instituting the various licenses you will need and the bodies to which you have to go for clearances while going into crypto.

The important point is bringing regulation does not hinder Bitcoin's decentralization. There are ways to secure your wallet anonymously even if the government doesn't want you to. Though not many people will dare to do it just for the ideals. Even with regulation and KYC, bitcoin can still remain a worthy piece of value storage and transfer. Its legitimacy is global and it'll find a way as long as eve one country is supporting it. From the looks of it, quite a few countries are positive on it.
2214  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who is doing Peer review on Alt coins and Open Source projects? on: May 22, 2018, 03:43:46 PM
When looking at bitcoin, the credo is „be your own bank“ and „no need to trust anyone“. Hence the open source, and everyone to be able to look at the code. Trusting in „white hats“ is against the principle. And creating a list of „approved“ white hats, that would verify the code? Who watches the watchers? This involves a new set of trust complexity, one should be aware of.
This is very tricky issue. When money is involved (and huge amounts of it), an open-source code needs to be perfect, but is there a metric to judge how much a code has been peer-reviewed or what percentage of web developers choose to declare it as "trustworthy"?
Understanding commented code to see what it does is one thing(to be your own bank) but not all of us are technically adept enough to be able to find bugs in thousands of lines of code. We take the security and sanctity of code for bitcoin for granted because of the huge community and the history behind it.

This is why any serious investor would realize that all of the thousands of alt-coins can never be trusted to take bitcoin's place. There are so many parts to the network including the peers, code, mining hardware etc., all of which can be manipulated in some way but are proven to be trustworthy enough with bitcoin.

2216  Local / India / Re: The Great Indian Blockchain Migration has begun on: May 22, 2018, 10:31:32 AM
If you go by PM Modi's rhetoric of using AI and Blockchain technology, we can be hopeful that all isn't lost yet. The problem is that things move at a breakneck speed in this field. The Indian ICO scene was just beginning to pick up with some serious ventures from Indians.

Just then, RBI served this body blow by choosing to be a complete ass and close gates on a technology that is being hailed as holding a lot of potential all overt the world. All they care about is the old talking points of black money and terrorist funding. I would love to see what data RBI brings to courts to show that bitcoin was indeed being used for terrorist funding etc.

I have my doubts about whether Modi can really support a decentralized currency like Bitcoin. Think about it - India does not have capital convertibility, cash transactions are frowned upon and we even had demonetization. So it seems like the current government's views are really incompatible with Bitcoin.
You are right. There has been a lot of talk about Blockchain buzzword and not enough action on removing the regulations on BTC trading. Indian government and society to doesn't seem ready for libertarian and privacy related aspects of Bitcoin. The present government has the chauvinistic and all controlling viewpoint where they want to account for everything.

In such a case, it really is hard to believe that they will be okay with the ability of people to transact using a decentralized currency. What kind of fears this would evoke in the presently under-staffed and unimaginative Ministry of Finance us also uncertain? If Venezuela goes ahead with its deal to sell oil for crypto and if it materializes, then we may have some way forward..
2217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: seeking help writing white on: May 22, 2018, 05:33:13 AM
I can attempt to but it didn't download. Maybe you could send it by mail. PM me if you are willing to send by mail.
2218  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Complete replacement for centralized exchanges: BTC+Bisq+Stablecoin+Atomic Swap on: May 22, 2018, 03:20:54 AM
This is exciting to know. The problem with all decentralized exchanges is of course the initial funding. It looks like BISQ works by directly connecting peers. One of them may have some BTC/ crypto and other has some cash. That cash can be sent over using any of the methods they listed and a transfer of crypto can follow.

The idea for using a stablecoin instead of a BTC trade is good. What I would be interested in knowing is at any given time, how much of a premium in terms of fees etc. do you have to pay to these intermediate services? This would be of interest to smaller investors who are looking to ensure anonymity in comparison with directly buying from a centralized exchange (that needs KYC).

2219  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitindia.co re brands to Blockonix.com as an international launch on: May 22, 2018, 03:16:42 AM
Sorry but I haven't ever heard of Bitindia before. You must be pretty well known if you are already rebranding for an international launch. It would be great if you can include a few links to the existing community where your operations first started.

Something like an active Announcement thread or a forum of people using your services. This actually helps in making it more inviting and legitimate to someone like me who just came across your name. Otherwise, you know how this space is right?? A website and few words put together means nothing.
Hoping for a reply and some links from you. Thanks!
2220  Local / India / Re: Is Indian Government going to regulate Crypto?? on: May 21, 2018, 05:51:27 PM
They always copy, they will copy western nations for sure, they never have there own stance with strong reason, if USA will block, they will block too, if USA opens up, they too. Let's see what happens, but one thing is sure that crypto space has slowly become so big that it is hard to ignore and in someday in near future government has to regulate it one way or the other.

Lol. Simple points stated there but absolutely right. These monkeys cannot come up with an original thought or analysis even if their lives depended on it. The so called committee on cryptocurrency has been sitting on its ass for months now, all while the crypto scenario has changed on a weekly basis.

I bet a few retired Civil "servants" are enjoying the perks of being committee members, all the while plagiarizing different sources to come up with their smug, elitist analysis. At the end, nobody will give a rat's ass as to what the committee says and they'll simply parrot what the other countries do when it comes to taking a real decision.

I tell you. The Indian brain is not meant for innovation and actually creating something from zero. We are only capable of non-stop, back breaking, backroom services taught to us by western masters. Of course this applies as long as you breathe in India. Once we leave these shores of stupidity, Indians come into their own like no other immigrant group and suddenly become kick-ass. Or maybe only those who are already kick-ass get to leave while the stupid get to stay back.. Cheesy Cheesy
