2201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: no confirmation in wallet what happens to the coins on: March 21, 2016, 02:37:11 PM
taking usual long time means sender didn't put enough transaction fees in order of amount.
what happened to this coin-
this coin is not safe to pay anywhere before at least one conformation.
can i get them back-
if sender put 0.0btc for transaction fees it will reverse in some time to sender wallet automatically.so you can't get them back in any case technically. but you can request your sender to send again.
you can't buy anything with unconfirmed transaction btc.

The TX has over 240 confirmations, just let the topic die.

2203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Running a full Node whilst using a VPN on: March 21, 2016, 02:10:50 PM
Hi i have been running my node for awhile now but have only recently wanted to start using a vpn permanently.  When i do this my Node drops to the minimum 8 outbound connections and drops all inbound, is there a way round this?  i'm presuming that this is because my IP has changed?

Since you are (likely) not the only person using the VPN your node is no longer reachable from the outside and is thus limited to 8 connections.

Thanks Shorena i do get that, are you saying then a Bitcoin core node cant be run if using a vpn service permanently?

No, you can run a node without accepting connections from the outside. No matter from which direction the connection was established, the traffic can flow in both directions. You will still get all the data and run a full node. You are just no longer available to SPV clients like multibit.

Thanks for that, i was just always under the impression that to be classed a "full node" you had to be excepting incoming connections.   Smiley

Some people claim that, but I and at least one core developer disagree. Feel free to find your own way, but for me the "full" in full node means, "fully verifying" which has nothing to do with the number of connections (should be at least 1 though) or which way they are established. If you prefer more connections you could also modify the code slightly to make core establish more outbound connections.

Need to import my android wallet to blockchain.info but it doesn't recognize the file produced by bitcoin wallet app.  Anybody know how I'd go about making this work?

Which android wallet? The "schildbach app"? If so, you need to recover[1] the private keys and import them to bc.i.

2206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Installing bitcoin-qt on a flash drive on: March 21, 2016, 11:58:21 AM
Simply install qtbit on the usbs directory path. Then run it and wait for it to sink. Do you want it on your usb so you can run it where ever you want ?
Or to strengthen the blockchain.

Bullshit. The data directory is not the same as the install directory.

Hey, can you tell me how to install as i am also thinking of going for it in to install in flash drive, can you help me also in installing the blockchain in a flash drive.

See the post by knightdk. If you only want to move the datadir, use the --datadir=/path/to/flashdrive command.
2207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Backed UP Wallet Recovery on: March 21, 2016, 11:54:16 AM
Here is the situation,

I have a back up file from 2014-04-03 from a BB device running the Bitcoin Wallet.

I do not remember the password to decrypt it following the UBUNTU instructions provided by Andreas.

Questions,

1- Was a password required? I am usually good with passwords and in this case im thinking I did not use one, or was it required?

2- When following the instructions to decrypt using the guide by andreas, after entering a blank password, it sends me back to the command prompt but when looking into the decrypted file it is empty. I guess this means there is a password set?

3- I read the guide and all, and if I get as far as sending out the funds (there are none) I actually need to get the actual private key out of the backup. The reason for this is because the private key associated with the public key is required to redeem some maid safe coins I had purchased in the pre-sale. Yes, I know it should have done properly from a desktop etc..etc... but it was last minute and I did it from my BB device which is now busted. What do you suggest to recover the actual private key?

Looking forward to your help.

Yes, you need a password, you actually need both. The PIN to unlock the wallet on start and the password to spend funds.

Maybe this[1] can help?

It is good policy l don't like those piramide looks like quotes in quotes and cannot
-snip-

You might not like the pyramid quotes, but that's the best way to let others know whom you're referring or talking about.
I see some people reply to someothers without even quoting, which confuses me alot.

You dont need to know the last 20 replies in order to follow the conversation. People read the oldest posts first. I agree however that quoting makes it easier to understand which other post a post is referring to.

i was only able to recover a fraction of my total btc i should have in my wallet.

I dumped all the private keys from all my received address' and sweeped them in Electrum

is it possible that more transactions will appear when the blockchain finishing syncing?

i have 3.3BTC in pending amount (correct perceived amount)

will I have to wait for the sync to be complete to know if my BTC is actually there?

If you are exporting keys, just export all keys. Same steps as here[1], skip 6 since you have no password[2] and replace 7 with ( dumpwallet mykeys.txt )[3]. The file will be unencrypted and contain a list of all (including change) your private keys. Either import them all into a different wallet or swipe them one by one until you have all your coins back.

2213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has bitcoin tor been patched to stop attack ? on: March 20, 2016, 08:46:58 PM
@somedude5

-snip-
Thank you very much for your understanding and serious reply of the subject.
I am new to the whole bitcoin world. And i was wondering what exactly  do you mean by "other nodes that function as hidden service"?

Well you can access a site through Tor (e.g. http://blockchain.info/ ) or use a hidden service (e.g. https://blockchainbdgpzk.onion/ ) to visit the same site within the Tor network. Same for bitcoin nodes. They can use Tor to reach other bitcoin nodes with a clear net IP (e.g. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fallback_Nodes#IPv4_Nodes ) or Tor nodes ( https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fallback_Nodes#Tor_nodes )

If i would have the computer running bitcoin getting physical internet form another box that is routed completely through tor, does that qualifies as hidden service ?

Maybe. The question is not whether you have set up Tor or not, but whether you have a target within Tor (aka hidden service) or outside of the Tor network (everything else).

Or do i have to run a  tor node myself and connect it through that node in order to be safe from attackers ?

or and can i configure this using the following option described in the software help  :

--start code output of help bitcoin client --
  -listenonion
       Automatically create Tor hidden service (default: 1)
--end code output of help bitcoin client --
( i would really like to know what exactly this option does, i do not understand it completely )

I am very great full for any help regarding this security issue !

You can configure bitcoin core to use Tor to connect to other nodes outside of Tor or you can set it up in a way to only allow connections to other nodes that are within the Tor network.

On how to do it, I suggest this thread -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1374919.0 as I have yet to find the time to do it myself.

@calkob

What would be the reason for using the tor network for a bitcoin node? i am always abit weary when using tor anyway never mind in regards to my bitcoin

Same reason for using Tor for anything else. Anonymity. Bitcoin addresses and transactions can not easily be linked to an IP address, but its possible. If you are running bitcoin core as a hidden service and only connect to other nodes within the Tor network there is no IP that could be matched. There are also mobile wallets like Mycelium that support Tor.
2214  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet on: March 20, 2016, 04:49:25 PM
Sorry, thats no option then. I need to wait till I have a charger (which cost 100dollars  Shocked Shocked Shocked). Thanks for your responses, but I can't reach the address or anything.

No problem, good luck with your search for a solution. You should probably migrate to a fresh wallet once you can access your coins again. Its odd that the seed is not working.
2215  Other / Meta / Re: Why my post was deleted -.- ? on: March 20, 2016, 04:35:04 PM
Check the other replies
Maybe those should be deleted aswell, then.

Maybe ? If my reply was deleted also the other replies should be deleted, but I will not report them.

Thanks for your interest guys.
If you don't report such other posts then for the most part, there is no way for a moderator to know those posts need to be deleted.  I don't think it is fair to complain that other similar posts were not deleted without previously bringing such posts to the attention of a moderator who can delete them.

I think if they have deleted my message... than they have also seen the other posts.
You don't know that. If a moderator is reviewing a report regarding a single post that says "watching" then there is no real reason why the moderator would review the other posts in such thread.

Post #6 and #7 have been deleted, #10 stayed and IMHO "compiling" is quite different from "watching".
2216  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet on: March 20, 2016, 04:33:18 PM
Sorry, I really can't remember. I just did like 4 transactions so I don't know it...
What else do you need from me?

The script[1] needs one of the following

#1 master public key
#2 address
#3 wallet file

to test the seed against. Any chance to access the data on the laptop even though it has no power?

2217  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet on: March 20, 2016, 04:21:17 PM
Hello,
If you can that would make me very happy Smiley
I tried it over and over so typo seems unlikely
Only problem is I don't have my address because thats on the laptop with no power Cry

If you open the wallet file with a text editor you will see something like this:

Code:
-snip-
   "accounts_expanded": {},
    "addr_history": {
        "12swU3xSag3qjq2HeU1eUNYNcHbMkgK187": [],
-snip-
        "14KCeYx2aYNSXJLbucUWpr3d3a2U9Py1DU": [
            [
                "177270fc7b52674ab876cdce72d594439e87fc96625a35856fa72eeb60554379",
                398218
            ],

The first kind is an unused address. The second kind is a used one with a TX ID and the block (here 398218) the TX was confirmed. The address with the lowest block would be good, because the programm works faster if I only have to check a fee keys for each possible seed. E.g. if you could find one of your first 5 addresses (if you remember) that would be nice. If not, I will check the first 20 on the first run.

Its a low quality uninteresting post that adds nothing to any topic. Imagine how the board would look if everyone would do this. Just click "watch" if you want to watch a thread and it will be added to your watchlist, there is no need to leave a reply.

ok ich versuche jetzt diesen "recovery"Service aber komme bei Punkt 3 nicht weiter! " 3) Then run the pywallet.py script to dump all the important information from your wallet."

2220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has bitcoin tor been patched to stop attack ? on: March 20, 2016, 03:53:12 PM

I think this is related to hardware wallets and not online wallets ?
and its uses denial of service attack (DoS) .

No, this has nothing to do with hard wallets, its about network nodes like e.g. bitcoin core. The exploit is using the bitcoin internal DoS protection to ban all Tor exit nodes for the bitcoin node in question to force it on the clearnet or out of the network.

This would only work though if you use Tor as proxy to connect to the clearnet and not if you are connected to other nodes that function as hidden service. The lattest version allows you to distinguish between the two types of connections and as such I would argue that this was indeed patched (in a sense).
