22101  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freewallet.org is SCAM !! DO NOT USE THIS WALLET !! on: September 07, 2018, 07:51:20 AM
The reason behind blocking the user's account is more complex than just the amount of funds. Our security is powered by a sophisticated algorithm developed by top specialists in the industry, so we wouldn't take it on lightly.
I've said it before: you should stop calling your service a wallet. This is misleading, as a wallet is something that gives the user full and unrestricted access to his private keys.
What you're running is more like a bank, users are at your mercy.

Your website literally says: "make access to coins easier". How exactly are you making it easier by blocking transactions?

22102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2018, 07:36:12 AM
Fucking manipulators. News about Goldman Sachs was fake.
Why do people care so much about what bankers say about Bitcoin? One day they say it's a scam, the next day they want to profit from trading, and now it's this again.
In reality, all they do is try to manipulate the market. Considering manipulation is one of the reasons the SEC rejected the ETF, I wouldn't be surprised if they do this to manipulate who gets to have the first ETF.
Manipulation at this level would probably mean jail time if they do it on the stock market, but because it's crypto, they get away with it.

Bankers, central banks, governments and billionaires have tried to manipulate Bitcoin for years. And I can only think of one reason: they're afraid of something they can't control and can't stop. They wouldn't say this about something unimportant, they also don't say it because they care about investors. And you won't hear them say a painting isn't worth $450 million because it doesn't produce anything and only relies on another buyer paying more for it.
They say it because of their current interests.

22104  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Announcing BPIP - The Bitcointalk Public Information Project! on: September 07, 2018, 07:06:48 AM
is it because of the Clouldflare protection is on?
It's not on, I can download my weekly Merit update without problems.

Well I get from time to time this 5 second waiting time of CF protection.
I only get that when I click "All" (pages).

This user for example, the account was nuked based on the Deletion log (it was earlier today), but there's no record on bpip until now.
New users aren't added either: ahmadremawi for example registered yesterday and is nuked already, but https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=ahmadremawi doesn't exist yet.
22105  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 06, 2018, 08:17:40 PM
I have another suggestion that's not really important, but can be annoying. I've ran into it many times: if a user creates a wide post, it looks good on the forum. But in the user's post history, it totally messes up the layout.
Example: this post makes me scroll about 20 meter left and right in my post history (note that this last link will point to the wrong page in a few days).
I often run into this problem when I check the post history of a "bounty manager" in an altcoin ANN thread.
22106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Make and sign a transaction with core unsynced on: September 06, 2018, 06:01:45 PM
It's a bit of fun with £5 that I have on an address.
If it's just for fun and not a serious amount, play around with coinb.in if you haven't tried it yet.

I just made one, this transaction will send 168791.33927947 BTC to my profile addy, without a fee:

If someone would be kind enough to sign it, I can try to broadcast it without a fee Cheesy
22107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Make and sign a transaction with core unsynced on: September 06, 2018, 05:40:05 PM
I want to send it fee-less if possible as I don't need it to ever confirm - realistically speaking
As far as I know, nodes no longer broadcast transactions with 0 fee.

Why do you want to make a transaction that doesn't need to confirm?

Quote
I also don't want to import the private key on it as the private key is potentially compromised so I don't want to accidentally use the address.
I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to do. You could import the private key into a different wallet, and never use it again afterwards.

Instead of using Bitcoin Core, isn't it much easier to use either Electrum or coinb.in to create a raw transaction using only the Bitcoin address, then you can sign it with the private key on an offline computer. Before broadcasting, you can check the raw transaction to ensure it does what you want it to do.

22109  Other / Meta / Re: Take care from a update Link on MyEtherWallet on Bitcointalk ! on: September 06, 2018, 01:39:17 PM
There are plenty of Brand new accounts posting that Phishing Link. I started reporting the post of the ff users listed below earlier, but there are more of them. (I'll continue editing this list)
Is it just the link in Geraldo's screenshot? If not, can you PM me the phishing link(s)? I'll restart my continuous patrol downloads, so I can catch them quickly.
22110  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative statistics of user registrations on Bitcointalk 2017-2018 on: September 06, 2018, 12:28:58 PM
Are the nuked users marked also as Newbies, without any post? If mods nuke a newbie, who already posted something, all of the posts are deleted too. This means for me that the newbies with 0 posts could be partially nuked users also.
Nuked users are shown as "Brand new" (example).

I'm curious how many users are nuked. I'll make an estimate based on a sample of the data: I start with the first post of the month, then add 10 to the userID. This means I scrape 10% of all users from http://bpip.org/, to get an estimate of the percentage of users that have been nuked in a month.

Update: I'm not sure if BPIP has ban-data from January 2018, and I didn't want to continue the slow scraping process.
I expected a large percentage of accounts to be banned, but it's really not that much. Most new accounts (about 75%) never made a single post.
That leaves just data for August 2018: I've scraped 10% of all accounts (starting at 2318753, ending at 2373137): 3 users have been Autobanned and 65 users have been Nuked (5439 accounts checked). That's only 1.25% of all accounts, or approximately 5% of all accounts that have ever posted.
I'm currently checking July 2018, then I'll stop. I'm curious to see if a higher percentage gets banned a month later.
Update: 18 users have been Autobanned and 167 users have been Nuked (6984 accounts checked).
In short:
2.65% of the accounts created in July are banned.
1.25% of the accounts created in August are banned.

22112  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, we want those sections back to us, new moderators? on: September 06, 2018, 08:16:45 AM
We need Mods for those sections / more sections could be added but those are most affected by spamers/:

- Bitcoin Discussion - no mod
Since Flying Hellfish became a Mod on Politics & Society, that board is in a better state now than Bitcoin Discussion.
I barely go to Bitcoin Discussion because of the spam. There are a few threads I follow, but most of the bumps result in me reporting that post or getting the user banned for plagiarism.

Quote
- Off Topic - no mod
A strict Mod on this board would probably lead to much more spam on other boards. Be careful what you wish for!
I'm totally fine with ignoring this board, as long as the spammers stay there.

Quote
If you agree I'll make a list with volunteers for each section where we can vote and you will pick the ones you like
I wouldn't mind "pulling a Flying Hellfish" on Bitcoin Discussion. I'd love to claim back that board, and I'm willing to do my share.

I'd like to help moderating the Economics section but I think theymos wants for moderators people who massively report, and I don’t. I’ve only reported 85 times in one year.
With the current level of spam, it's not very difficult to report more posts than you make by yourself. Just report all the useless posts you see, it helps the forum.
I started reporting much more after seeing the report stats from other users. It made me realize I don't have to be restrictive with reports.

You know it's closed, right? Tongue

It's actually starting to look like I stand a chance again! I already have a purpose for the prize if I win: 2 different paper wallets for my kids, it'll either be their college fund in 15 years, or something they'll just laugh about Cheesy
And if I don't win, I should really start making and funding those paper wallets for them anyway.

1. on bittrex.com, click on COPY next to your deposit address
2. go to http://goqr.me/, write 'byteball:' into the text field and paste your address right after that
3. scan the qr code shown on the right with your wallet to send Bytes to Bittrex
4. Check if the address is the same as you expected! Don't trust online QR-code generators when it comes to crypto.
22116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 05, 2018, 05:41:21 PM
I think Tony should burn the remaining undistributed bytes.
I don't agree. Look at Stellar Lumens for example, another coin I received through airdrops. I got them around the same time as the Byteball airdrops, and both coins had about the same market cap.
Stellar went up, Byteball went down. Stellar's market cap is now almost 100 times larger than Byteball's market cap, while less than 20% of all XLM has been distributed.

All Byteball needs to do is "catch on", and it can easily go 100x or more. But since I've been hoping for that, only the opposite has happened.
Undistributed funds that can be used for promotions are still an edge.
22117  Other / Meta / Re: Should I reply to topics with more or less replies? For the merit? on: September 05, 2018, 05:33:58 PM
If you have to ask those things, I don't think you're very likely to earn Merit. But since you're not a total spammer, I'll bite. My answer is: "it depends" Tongue
The number of replies isn't very relevant (exception: spam megathreads), it depends on the quality of the posts.

If you want to earn Merit, create something useful that doesn't exist on the forum yet. Have a look at the Top-merited recent topics, read them (all of them!) and figure out why they are Merited.
22118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Anyway to recover from wrong address?! on: September 05, 2018, 03:53:51 PM
But it makes a question in my mind since the bitcoin and the bitcoin cash addresses were in same format is there any website or tool which can identify which is bitcoin or BCH address by pasting that address on to that?
You can check the same address on a block explorer for different chains. http://www.findmycoins.ninja/ checks many Forkchains at once.

I almost called for mutiny, because I was waiting for another post informing me about the current status of the portfolio. Then, I realized that you said you would simply be editing your previous post until the week is over, to avoid spamming your own thread.
I only now noticed I the post I was editing wasn't my latest post. Here's a new one:

22120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [overview] Recover Bitcoin from any old storage format on: September 05, 2018, 12:19:55 PM
Didn't multibit use wallet.dat(s) too?
I'm not sure. I've tested multibit in the past, but didn't like it and don't remember it's file format.

Also the two libraries on that python script above look like they're not default ones (so you have to download them)...
If you can help me out with a link, that would be much appreciated!

EDIT: The andreas shildbach wallet backups were files without an extension and by default had the name Bitcoin-Wallet-Backup-Date
I have this one listed already.
