2242  Other / Politics & Society / Are We (USA) A Nation of Wimps? on: May 09, 2015, 10:32:40 PM
We now live in a society where safety and security are to be sought at all costs. The sacrifice of liberty is not a concern for most Americans today. This is not something new and it has been characteristic of most people throughout history but it has gotten especially bad in America since 9/11. In addition many Americans have become deeply worried as a consequence of the economic crisis that started in 2008. They have lost confidence in their future financial security but continue to deny our nation’s bankruptcy.

This has prompted many to opt for dependency on government even if it requires the use of force to get what they want to ameliorate their fears. Rather than having confidence in the benefits that accrue from a free society, the majority of Americans are now frightened by the thought of self-reliance and accepting the responsibility that comes with liberty.

There has been a steady erosion of confidence over the past 100 years as the American people as a whole have accepted the so-called need for big government to provide safety and security for its citizens. In the process they have readily accepted the personal income tax and the abuse of the IRS along with the illegal power of the money manipulators at the Federal Reserve to pay the bills by simply printing money. Unfortunately they have also convinced themselves of our “righteousness” by supporting force to spread American “greatness” throughout the world. This of course is a fantasy and is self-deceptive. This trend has been ongoing since the Woodrow Wilson era up to and including the policies designed by the current crop of neoconservatives.

It’s a sense of insecurity that prompts the need to demonstrate strength and confidence in an artificial manner. In a way it’s “a little man syndrome” to compensate for our diminishing achievements in our domestic economy and our position in world affairs. This includes the “chicken Hawks” as well as those who participate in aggressive behavior both domestically and internationally.

Many get a sense of strength and a feeling of patriotism from being able to bomb and kill individuals 6,000 miles away from our home though they have never committed an aggressive act against us. Our policies are designed to search for enemies to destroy though they pose no threat to us. We use remotely controlled drones and cruise missiles to perpetuate a sense of power even against powerless Third World pseudo-enemies.

Marco Rubio Outlines a Liam Neeson Foreign Policy in South Carolina

Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio summed up his hawkish foreign policy in a speech at the South Carolina Freedom Summit on Saturday with a reference to the 2008 thriller Taken.

“On our strategy on global jihadists and terrorists, I refer them to the movie Taken. Have you seen the movie Taken? Liam Neeson. He had a line, and this is what our strategy should be: 'We will look for you, we will find you, and we will kill you,'”  Roll Eyes the Florida senator said to thunderous applause in Greenville, S.C.

The line—referring to Neeson's character, a CIA operative threatening a human trafficker who had kidnapped his daughter—earned the top-tier candidate thunderous applause.

The rest of Rubio's rhetoric on foreign policy was familiar, as he spoke about the need to “prevent Vladimir Putin from re-drawing the lines of Europe”; work with allies to “confront Iran's ambitions to dominate the region”; stand firmly with Israel, “the only pro-American, free-enterprise democracy in the Middle East,” and work “not just to contain radical jihadists, but to defeat them.”

This is exactly the type of hoorah that these miltary hawks like to hear and SC has lots of them. As you can tell, this guy has many plans for the rest of the world and is foaming at the mouth to be commander of this large offensive force aka the US military. Better get all your friends and family on the Rand bandwagon.
2245  Other / Politics & Society / Jeb Bush courts evangelicals, defends religion in public life on: May 09, 2015, 10:03:24 PM
LYNCHBURG, VA. — Looking to win over skeptical evangelical voters, Jeb Bush pushed back Saturday against what he said are modern intrusions on religion as he lauded graduates and their families at Liberty University, a Christian college popular on the path to the Republican presidential nomination.

“Fashionable ideas and opinions – which these days can be a religion all by itself – have got a problem with Christians and their right of conscience,” Bush told an audience of 34,000 in the school’s football stadium.

“That makes it our problem, and the proper response is a forthright defense of the first freedom in our Constitution.”

Some evangelicals view Bush warily, questioning whether the former Florida governor and likely candidate for the Republican presidential nomination would provide a suitable bulwark against gay marriage, illegal immigration and other issues key to conservatives.

Keep in mind that Liberty University forces all students to attend when a speaker is in town, so that is pretty low for the administrators at this so-called Christian University to subject their people to such a person as Bush. The establishment part of the GOP has been courting (using/stringing along) evangelicals for decades now and in the end, they always are used as the useful idiots that they are. I certainly don't take seriously when a Bush or their democratic equivalent mentions the Constitution.

Hillary Clinton the Populist Begins Courting the Plutocrats
Clinton can't change Roll Eyes the system unless she wins the election, and the only way to win the election is with the help of deep-pocketed allies.

One of Hillary Clinton's biggest applause lines in her early days on the campaign trail has come when she talks about getting big money out of politics—even when she's talking to the big-money donors.

It's one of the paradoxes of a campaign that regularly employs populist rhetoric while courting plutocrats. Clinton can't change the system unless she wins the election, a campaign official argued, and the only way to win the election is with the help of deep-pocketed allies.

Clinton's message on the campaign trail, where she's focused on casting herself as a "champion" for "everyday Americans" could get complicated by her courting of the one percent. That tension ramped up this week as Clinton arrived on the West Coast for a series of fundraisers for her campaign committee (to which individual donors can legally give a total of $5,400)—as well as some smaller meetings in Los Angeles and San Francisco with potential donors to Priorities USA Action, the Democratic super-PAC that can collect checks in unlimited amounts on her behalf.

This is so rich w/ hubris and deception that it's almost actually funny considering there'll be legions of stupid fux and feminists that think Hillary is looking out for them. There's nothing populist about an establishment figure who looks down upon peasants and will throw them a few crumbs and that's all they're worthy of. This change word popping up again is just a joke from hell.

Billionaire Lifts Marco Rubio, Politically and Personally

MIAMI — One day in the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Marco Rubio, the young speaker of the House, strayed from the legislative proceedings to single out a lanky, silver-haired man seated in the balcony: a billionaire auto dealer named Norman Braman.

This man, Mr. Rubio said in effusive remarks in 2008, was no ordinary billionaire, hoarding his cash or using it to pursue selfish passions.

“He’s used it,” Mr. Rubio said, “to enrich the lives of so many people whose names you will never know.” As it turned out, one of the people enriched was Mr. Rubio himself.

As Mr. Rubio has ascended in the ranks of Republican politics, Mr. Braman has emerged as a remarkable and unique patron. He has bankrolled Mr. Rubio’s campaigns. He has financed Mr. Rubio’s legislative agenda. And, at the same time, he has subsidized Mr. Rubio’s personal finances, as the rising politician and his wife grappled with heavy debt and big swings in their income.

Litt on Friday said that Clapper merely did not have a chance to prepare an answer for Wyden and forgot about the phone records program when asked about it on the spot.
Not prepared to answer sounds to me that this thing was supposed to be scripted if they're being truthful about not having an answer prepared and then a lie would be sufficient in lieu of one. I can't believe anyone could possibly think that an official would have forgotten about the most top secret scam they were pulling. Again, just and FU to anyone out there that has a problem w/ it, namely Rand and his fellow civil libertarian supporters. No normal and good citizens would even have this on their minds. The lawyer that made this statement must feel either stupid for having to frame it this way or just as big a dick as his client.

Inside the 'Clinton Cash' war room
How Hillary’s team worked furiously to attack, undermine and debunk the book that threatened to disrupt her campaign.

In early March, weeks before Hillary Clinton even announced her campaign, spokesman Brian Fallon and research director Tony Carrk began holding regular war room meetings with a team of eight volunteers on a serious mission: Fighting back against a forthcoming book, “Clinton Cash,” that threatened to seriously disrupt the campaign in its infancy.

This was an updated version of the famed war room that fought the first round of Clinton scandals in 1992, propelling Bill Clinton to the presidency; now, two months later, aides point to the handling of the “Clinton Cash” threat – a still-unfolding stream of allegations involving the Clinton Foundation and its donors, but one that seems not to have seriously altered perceptions of Hillary – as proof of the campaign’s ability to manage messaging and counter the inevitable blowback of an 18-month campaign.

The campaign systematically raised questions about the objectivity of author Peter Schweizer and, according to sources with knowledge of the deals, strategically leaked details of the book to news outlets to undercut the exclusivity of excerpts given to reporters at The New York Times and Washington Post, who had obtained special deals with Schweizer.

Gowdy’s Benghazi Panel Wants Clinton’s Top Aides

The Republican chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Friday defended the pace of his panel’s year-old investigation into the 2012 terror attack and announced plans to interview three top aides to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., in a 15-page “Interim Progress Update” released on the one-year-anniversary of the committee’s creation, blamed the Obama administration for delays in the panel’s probe.

“It is difficult to conduct a fact-centric congressional investigation when the Administration impedes the Committee’s progress by repeatedly failing to answer the Committee’s requests or to provide information in a timely manner,” wrote the South Carolina Republican.

“The largest impediment to being able to write the final, definitive accounting of what happened before, during and after the terrorist attacks in Benghazi is the Executive Branch itself.”

They seem pretty balanced and friendly to Rand so far, having him speak on some campuses already. But if WE get involved, it could be a huge resource and tool for Rand. If you go to the site (TurningPointUSA.net) you'll see all kinds of ways you can get involved in your area.

PLEASE do. Organized numbers are so crucial right now! Please post to let me know your thoughts, maybe that you signed up for something, and to keep this thread a live. Thanks.

Interesting that this GBTC thing is all situated and having a year behind the original shareholders when it appears this market may be turning a new leaf. Coincidence?

Is it, though? I keep tabs on the 365-day price difference (with the following chart), and a bitcoin investment held for a year continues to be under water right now. Also, note the red line, which is where it will be if the price stays the same.

I see your point but I believe that I posted here or on another site (RPF) in regards to the shareholders' holdings that I believed them to have bought in the 6-700+ range in full, so this could mean they're slightly under water. Yet, the arb opportunity seems worthwhile or the selling and rebuying to check out the market next year to see some gains. Today was good for PR purposes going forward and the entire market.
