2241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Hands On]Yubikey - Help secure your digital assets - Including Blockchain.info on: February 10, 2016, 02:02:42 AM
Can I ask? Is this "Yubikey" a souped up version of Ledger's HW.1? It works with more than just a few bitcoin wallets, has NFC support, and looks less flimsy?

Completely different things.   A Ledger is a bitcoin wallet, it stores your bitcoin wallet on it and signs the transactions.   There are many different ones but they are hardware wallets.

Yubikey is a physical security key.  So it's not a hardware wallet but a security token.  It can be used on some hot wallets like blockchain.info .  And it really gives the extra option of adding security by using it as a 2nd factor authentication on many sites.

And where it really get's even extra great options is when combining with password managers.  It gives secure 2 factor on it, and if you use lastpass you use a unique password for every site so if one site was hacked not all your passwords are compromised from using same password on multiple sites.
2242  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: February 10, 2016, 01:58:24 AM
I personaly use blockchain wallet:-)

This is the single most popular response it seems.  I wish we would have asked on wallet to say you use it with X security.

For example they say if they are using 2factor.  I would love to see percent of those using 2 factor on hot wallets vs those with 1 password, which is scary thought just having it.
2243  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to join signature ad campaigns .. on: February 10, 2016, 01:56:16 AM
these campaigns all pay so little to newbies Sad

i guess i will hold off until i have a higher rank.

But it's better than faucets, you can earn 4k satoshi per post. For OP just go to service section, and go to 777coin and bitvest signature campaign, because only that 2 campaign who accept newbie.

But that 4k satoshi per post isn't guarantee since constructive posts will be only counted and I think newbies will have difficulties posting constructively due to lack of knowledge regarding to bitcoin. I guess faucets will be good in the meantime for them Smiley Don't push them on campaigns on an early stage

I don't think so buddy. both campaigns 777coins and bitvest don't have strict rules, and you even got bonus when post on gambling. i think post in gambling is easy. and i'm agree with don't force them to join signcamp on early.

No newbie campaign has strict rules for most part I dont think. They put up with some of the utter worst posts, and a lot spam and it's all for dust in most cases.  They also have a lot of farmers who try to farm accounts.

I honestly think anyone that waits till full member, and works on getting good posts now will thank me and others for recommendation later. The ones at full member they check your posts so if it's utter crap... you cant get in the good campaigns.

So your goal should be good posts, not to jump straight into signature campaigns.
2244  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S4 Exhaust enclosure on: February 10, 2016, 01:46:58 AM
Hi,

Has anyone built an exhaust enclosure for an S4? I've got one coming and plan to put it in a spare bedroom but concerned about the noise aspect. I was thinking about building a enclosure for the back end of the miner with some acoustic ducting to try and reduce the noise.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

You can build an enclosure but I would look for quieter miners to run  instead.  The S4 just is a big miner with noise.  It has a big PSU causing noise, and multiple fan's with noise.

It's easier to just get a miner that is quieter when buying miners.  But if you already bought it yes it can be done.  But it's going to take some work and still could be louder then you want in a bed room.   I had one in my bedroom during my first testing and it was loud I do remember that.
2245  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer U3 peaks at 370Mh/s on: February 10, 2016, 01:42:37 AM
Hi guys,

Last Sunday I bought a used Antminer U3. It looked brand new (none of the usual dust deposit on the fan blades or the unit), so I thought I had a pretty good deal.

However, unfortunately its hash rate peaks at about 370Mh/s, far lower than the claimed 63Gh/s. It starts out at 1.3Gh/s and then immediately drops only to end at, and remain at, 370Mh/s. I tried several power supplies (it is currently powered using a 120W 12V power supply) and both CGminer and bfgminer (with and without OC settings).

Also, after further inspection of the unit last night, I noticed that two of the heatsink's screws were damaged as if a wrong size Philips screwdriver was used on them. Fearing that the PCB or chips might be damaged due to overtightening, I disassembled the unit, checked the PCB for damage and applied new thermal paste. Visually, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary (i.e. no cracks).

Do you guys think I made an error somewhere or did I simply purchase a lemon?

Thanks in advance for your help and input. Smiley

What commands are you using when running it?

Also when you say your trying different power supplies did it not come with one?  The U3  should come with a power brick, not the adapter cable to wall.  But it comes with power brick.

Has anyone powered individual boards with low power (750 watt?) power supplies?

Thanks!

yes I used 2  seasonic 760 or 750 plats  works fine

this one

Thanks Phil

I love my EVGA 1300's they seem to hold value decent.   So that is what I have been doing on some.

And server PSU's really are taking over.   It get's harder and harder to buy ATX psu's at least if you have 220/240 the price difference has made many go server PSU's.
2247  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: February 10, 2016, 01:36:06 AM
With another 20% increase in difficulty expected will the new miners be outdated before they even come to market for the home miners?

Not these miners at .06 or so they have a LOT of wiggle room.  Considering current is .30 or so we are talking big efficiency jump.  So we will see what will happen.

And if anyone even sells these to home miner is another thing.  We don't know about re sellers, and a re seller would need to spend a lot to buy from Bitfury.  I think our best hope is a huge mine buys a ton and sells some for a instant profit to customers.
2248  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: February 10, 2016, 01:33:30 AM
How do I run one of these bad boys in Canada with only 120 Volts?

I run mine off 120V, just use regular ATX PSUs that are single rail.  However you do need a dedicated 20A circuit to be safe!  I use a 1000W PSU (2 boards) + 650W PSU (1 board).  Or get an EVGA 1600.  I used a 1300W for a while but it was just too close to the margin for comfort IMNSHO!

The huge thing is not to mix PSU's on the same hashing board.  So you need to power entire hashing board via 1 PSU.  So it has been kinda common for 120 to use two.   One that powers two boards, one does other and controller.   It can work.

I like all in one but that is a lot harder to do in 120v area as evga 1600's are high priced.  Compare to 220/240 server PSU's its a huge jump in price.  But I still like one PSU for all if at all possible.

Looks like another +20% day is upon us. We got a break for 1 day and now the hashrate is back up again.

Yes agreed I think it will probably be well over +20% I think it could be +25%  Sad

Rich

Wow.. if we hit 25 that would be crazy.  A growth of 1/4 of hash rate in one period.  That is a huge if they can do it.

Bitwisdom is still above 20:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    144,116,447,847
Estimated Next Difficulty:    173,900,300,185 (+20.67%)
Adjust time:    After 1531 Blocks, About 9.6 days
Hashrate(?):    1,197,415,073 GH/s

Price hanging around 273.
2250  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New 3 x S7 Miner Setup With 0.0066 $ Elect. Rate on: February 10, 2016, 01:23:25 AM
Yeah that electricity is too good to be true.

Bad thing is even ifyou got it for free you won't get ROI on your miners. The difficulty is just too high.

Just look at https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

Estimated Next Difficulty:   174,437,386,800 (+21.04%)

And remember we were at 65M in november (just 3 months ago).

This is pretty much nonsense as  a power rate of zero has a decent chance of getting roi.

You are basing his chances on a 90 day span with a really high growth rate.

sept 2014 to sept 2015 = more the 360 days and the network 2x
oct 2015 to jan 2016 = 90 days and the network 3x

So if we go back to the slower rate he will do okay.
Short term next 90 days we could do 3x again after that we will slow or die

However your statement would be true at a higher rate for power.  10 cents is pretty bad to roi.

he will spend about 4300 watts this is 4.3 x 24 = 100 kwatts a day that is 66 cents a day. 20 usd a month.  Growth will slow again.  I would think he will make a profit.

It all depends on growth and btc value. Both of these are to hard to speculate right now. I think growth is going to be high with new miners, I do hope it drops though I would find 5-10 more sustainable.  I just don't see 20 percent being sustainable, but could be wrong.

Also value I think a lot of new operations are dumping coins to pay for new gear in fiat.  Just  a feeling I have no real proof of it.   If btc gets a big jump in value it's going to change all the numbers better for miners.
2251  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 16nm miners on: February 10, 2016, 01:20:15 AM
I have been reading all over this forum about these 16nm miners, so when are they coming out and any cloud mining website intends to add them to mine for real. For cloud mining I only count transparent providers that are not in a good condition right now.

These 16 nm miners , what is their initial profit considering an increase of 20% of the difficulty of Bitcoin Huh Normal price electricity in Europe mainly.

You can't calculate profit out of nothing like that. It depend on your electricity cost. For the Bitfury one, we're looking at 0.1J/GH, do the math. But the unit price will probably be much more expensive than the S7 for example.

But anyways they're pretty much already out, it may simply be because they did not make a public miners to sell home users for now.

You can look into Bitfury and SP50's.

The hard part is those two chances are no info is out there yet on sales.  All NDA on Bitfury so likely unless you have large amount you will not be dealing with them.   It's hard to tell it hopefully will change sometime and we will know more, I'm not one of them but the people who know on Bitfury I have a feeling all are under NDA.

And on SP50 they were really beat by Bitfury before even released.   We have not seen more then rendering on SP50, so we have no idea if they even have one.  Or if they will stop R/D as beat by Bitfury.  They really need to already get a new chip before it as released.

And OP in Europe the vat and electricity kills most miners there.  So be careful on buying do lot's of ROI math once we see more info on these miners.
2252  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 4.1 Miner- Summer Mining - Notlist3d on: February 10, 2016, 12:52:29 AM
I bought a 4.1 last week for 149 us in btc shipping paid . waiting for it to get here on Thursday according to ups. kind of why I asked you what I did in a PM but then i found my answer a few hours later .Smiley .if you do happen to break up the set i see it in time i might buy one . right now, I'm saving coins in hopes of getting 2 or 3 of the 16 nm ones if one ever comes to light . but for now I need something to do and pay cash for cheap ones then mine with them , it gives me something to do sense, I'm  disabled and  i can't stand up long etc.

Yea I am probley going to sell this one as a set.  Just is easier they have been a set since they were bought long ago.  Also makes it where it has the RPI that comes with it.

On this forum  it's not a big deal, but on ebay selling one without a RPI set up can be trouble as it seems to have more new miners.  Lowered to as low as I hopefully have to .... 385 shipped for 3.  Your getting Avalon 4.1 x 3 for the price almost of S3's.

It's still on ebay.  Only looking at US as don't  really want to ship this big box out of US.   Also don't want to mess with customs for so little. - http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

I saw it on Ebay , i hate buying out side the US any way not because of shipping, a lone it's just a pain and takes to long most of the time  ..That is a nice price for sure.
I just don't have that in cash right now and won' t cash in my coins Smiley or use them.

I have one coming like i said  and Polly looking to buy another one next month they should be good till July at least .

Cya .
cya

Sadly the shipping was a heck of a big box and heavy with 3 of them.  It did sell via ebay, just waiting on payment now though it.   Sorry to anyone that had offers in.

With difficulty change these are machines to look for if you have free/cheap electricity.  Great quiet miners, I expect to see more being sold from others.
2253  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: SOLD! 3x Avalon 4.1's - Great set - ON EBAY 385 or less for the set of 3! on: February 10, 2016, 12:49:38 AM
It did sell on ebay sorry for anyone that had a offer in.   I will close thread after buyer pay's on ebay.
2254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Hands On]Yubikey - Help secure your digital assets - Including Blockchain.info on: February 09, 2016, 05:24:28 PM
Have still been testing Yubikey with blockchain.   I think it is one great use due  to it's popularity.

Also the more you use Lastpass and get unique strong passwords the better it gets.   I would say Lastpass gets stronger and stronger the more you use it.

I used Lastpass before, but after they sold out, and security issues started appearing i I started using KeyPass instead. I feel more in control. And as I wrote i use a Yubikey in static password mode to store the password for my KeePass database. Smiley KeePass with chrome extension gives me the same functionality.

And that is another thing great about Yubikey is you can use it for so many different things. Just like this we prefer different password managers... and it allows us to pick our favorite which is great.

I think Lastpass is pretty good.  There was one exploit for Lastpass they named Lostpass you just need to make sure your signing into your Lastpass and not a phishing site.  Which you really should always check that when logging into a password manger.  And having two factor with Yubikey does help on most possible security problems tremendously.
2255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cloud Mining - Please help a newbie on: February 09, 2016, 05:12:12 PM
You are a notoriously deceptive person. Carrying Bit-x signature for more than a year and claiming to never mention Bit-x !!!

BOOM!!!

There goes yet another fucking irony meter.

He hates me as I am pointing people to hashnest.  He never answered what his new machines are... and never told old machines.  I'm not sure why he waited till today to say something about me.  No where in context of above did I ever mention Bit-X.

But yes I feel good wearing Bit-x as they don't make me say anything, and I can speak my mind. They don't force have to push products or make us point to somewhere, it is 100 percent open to people in the sig campaign to speak our own mind.  I did not even mention it you are making it an issue as your shilling is not bringing people to your site.  You also removed your signature for the site you shill... trying to hide it?

If you want cloud mining I suggest anyone looks at hashnest and I make ZERO dollars off this.   I have no agenda on this.  And everyone who does it should know in mining profit is not guaranteed.  But if I was going to go to cloud mining it would be hashnest.
2256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to join signature ad campaigns .. on: February 09, 2016, 05:09:25 PM
You must be at least member to earn some decent money.

As a junior member, you can join some signature campaigns. But the payout is quite low, it is like $0.03 per post. So it is better to join when the rank is higher.

I think it does not matter when you jr.member immediately joined the signature campaign despite a payout very low, so when you build your account until you reach the highest rank you can still get paid Smiley

Right. I also got suggestions that i shouldn't join a campaign when i don't have a higher rank like full member or more, but i thought something is better than nothing, so why not join a campaign and earn some bits until you reach a higher rank.

Use the time to learn about the forum, and bitcoin in general.  Once you put a signature up you are throwing up a crosshair for ban if your posts are crap or one liners.  If your learning still and don't have signature more likely you will not be banned.

So I suggest all full member at lowest joining.  The ones under it really  are just dust your getting anyways.   I think your jumping the gun as you already did join one it appears.
2257  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud Mining Website is increasing cost of hash power - Why? on: February 09, 2016, 05:00:53 PM
New players may lower their existing price to attract more customer. But, AFAIK, www.CloudMining.website is paying for over a year now and they are already the cheapest hash power provider for large purchase. They already have their established customer base. Hence, it does not matter to them, even if they increase price.
Are they still the cheapest hash power provider?

Don't know why you bumped thread.  Cheapest or not they are not the best.  If your going cloud mining go with hashnest.

It is a true legit service.  Read threads about the mentioned provider, then read about hashnest.  Anyone who does this goes to hashnest.
2258  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: February 09, 2016, 04:56:49 PM
Between I got a mail from bitfury.

Have a look.

Thanks for making this available! It's unfortunate he doesn't indicate how many chips you get if you put up $1M.

Do you get 100, 1000, 500,000, what?

Nice way of saying "Don't talk to us unless you have serious money". Not a surprise.....

Punin himself stated exactly that in the russian part of the forum.

The picture is a good read on it. Everyone would LOVE to get their hands on these miners.  But that picture of email basically was a really nice way of saying if you don't have a million to spend your wasting your time.

Someone could make a bundle buying in huge bulk and reselling miners at a markup.  Not sure if anyone will do this, but we can hope.  Or hope some other way comes up to buy them.
2259  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: WTH BTC Jumped 20.06%. Is this a fricking Trend? on: February 09, 2016, 04:52:23 PM
it was expected, because...

1 antminer s7 can do 0.0164 btc daily equal to 0.5 monthly = $189

consumption of many big farm at 0.03-0.05 cent per kw/h is $45 per month, so you see still plenty of margin

the diff will increase even further at least until 200B, +50% more

Even $0.03/kWH is not low enough to make s7 miner worth buying now. Should be below $0.02. Such prices do exist, in Venezuela, parts of Russia etc.

big farms, don't have acccess to such electricity value, the lower i've heard of is 0.03, which is pretty good

that's why they are going with the new 16nm, which are coming before the halving

.03 cent's I think is on the low side for most.  But it's hard to say what most commercial operations are getting.   Were talking about a industry where most are privately owned so they don't really put out data.  They are also all over the world so it's not like one size fit's all.

How do you know most big farms don't have access to such cheap electricity? I have not found anything that really publishes their price on huge commercial operations.

i'm curious to know, if there is any mega farm out there sitting on free power, it would be terrible for the mining scene, since no value or halving will stop their mining ever

I don't know about free but I do wonder on ones like HaoBTC - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072474.0 .  Great read if anyone has not yet, but Eric took tons of amazing pics.

But they built it very close to a dam with hydro.  It's operations like this I wonder what they pay.  It would not be free, but if the company had that much extra unused electricity I would think they would get a sweet deal on electricity.
2260  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: hi there! need some help! on: February 09, 2016, 04:49:16 PM
ty for help guys ! Second questions here if i want to use my (2)S3 to mine altcoin !? What coin is the most profitable !

You wont want to.  They mine SHA256 and bitcoin is pretty much always the most profitable, there have not been any good coin releases on it for a while.

Most altcoins that are worth something are scrypt.  So you need a entirely different miner then your S3.  So you would be better off mining S3 on BTC and buying altcoins, then trying a SHA256 altcoin I think.
