22561  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Antminer S11 releasing! on: November 17, 2017, 03:55:23 AM
If canaan releases a better Avalon then the s-9

Bitmain will simply cut price on the s-9.

There is no need for them to do better then the s-9. Until someone clearly builds a much better miner.

Just go to hash nest and see the s-7 turn profit.

No one gets to check on the s-7 mining so by now most of them could be s-9 and they charge s-7 maintence fees.

What does this mean?  It. Means bitmain is whaling more money by the trunkful .

Why make a s-11 and kill the s-7 score on hashnest.

The answer is they will not do a new miner unless economics demand it.

And economics do not demand it to be built.

Hey Phil, the Onda D1800 6 slot board uses a DDR3 sodimm, right?
Aliexpress doesn't clarify what it uses.

Thanks!

Yes.

yes it does

the second one of mine is yet to be tested.  since I shorted the first one with the molex  put in upside down Sad
22564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: November 17, 2017, 01:45:29 AM
@Steamtyme - I will try to make sure I try all the ports on RaspPi

@Phil - when I click CGMiner API Log or CGMiner Status, I get sent to a page that says Bad Gateway.  I can't get to the CGMINER API log age or CG Miner Status page.

I recall Phil mentioned to make sure the RaspPi has good power.  I have a brick coming from Amazon, Aukey brand I believe it is.

do advanced ip and find the rasp pi

Hi Guys -

I received my Avalon 741 this week - was dropped shipped from China I believe.

I am using two power supplies which i had purchased from ParallelMiner.  Both show 12.4 on the break out board.(I'm not sure if that is significant or not)
Each power supply is plugged directly into an outlet.
So one side of the Avalon has 3 of the power plugs plugged into power supply1.  The other side of the Avalon has 3 plugs into power supply 2.

I have the raspberrypi usb mini cord plugged into a power strip.
The lights on my AUC3 converter are green.
The lights on the back of the Avalon 741 are Look to be YELLOW..(even though in picture they look white).

Problem

As you can see in the WebUI screen shot, when I click CGMiner API Log or CGMiner Status, I get sent to a page that says Bad Gateway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I did open a ticket with Canaan two days ago.  No response to my ticket as of yet.

22567  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Reduce S9 power consumption? Goal of ~1000W "modern" mining capacity on: November 16, 2017, 11:46:51 PM
you need an older  s-9  with the old firmware.

this  older firmware allows the miner to be clocked down  to a low freq  such as 400

it also allow for the fans to be set to  40%

thus sound  is better
power draw is better

and the gear is still efficient  around .11 watts per gh

you will do about 9000 gh and around 1000 watts at a freq of 400

IT is philipma1957 on cell phone. Are you using six blower style 1080ti?
No, blower style Vega56.

all the same hight correct?
Yup. All Sapphire RX Vega 56.

Fan on top of those cards isn't going to help much unless it's blowing air down at the "blower fan" intake for the cards - in which case it might help some.

nope  if fan is in front near video ports  it pulls a lot of air up and out..all back plates feel hot

and you pull it up and out  so the back plate tosses much less hot air at the  blower fan it is close to

@phil

mobo is here, arrived perfect. you did a great job packing it.

now just gotta collect the odds and ends it needs. cpu, sodimm, some more adapters (6 pin pcie to molex/sata, already have a pico psu and 6 pin splitters). gonna run it off a sidehack 1200 HP server psu/breakout board.

and damn that thing is big Smiley

yeah  did I use the large flat rate game box with you?

I did most of the shipping with that box.

I did not try SMOS coz I am mining at nicehash.

However it will be better for me to skip to SMOS I believe.

What do you think about my issue? What may cause this any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

i mine zec at nicehash and smos is more stable then windows

most of these rigs are on smos ------ the ones named phil are smos based

22572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPUs die after some time, MSI Afterburner issue. on: November 16, 2017, 04:53:40 PM
Hi there, I am having a weird issue.

I have Win10 installed and fully updated to latest stable one.
On this rig I use 7 x 1080TI cards however a few hours later I start the windows, some GPUs randomly drops from MSI Afterburner and becomes uncontrollable like in the image.

Image: https://ibb.co/ciFZ3R

You can see that 1st GPU dropped now. It happens randomly and this is really boring.

Anyone can have a solution for me?

Thanks a lot.

this is an alt coin question

some not all 1080 ti's do this

do you have 7 identical  1080 ti's

do you have gigabyte 1080 ti's

for my troubled 1080 ti's

all gigabyte in my case I made a smos rig  which is linux software

No, blower style Vega56.

all the same hight correct?

I used to lay a 10 inch fan on  hd 7970's  back in 2012

right on top of them  with the fan pointed upwards

of course  this meant no rigs above it  but it works.

you may be able to use 2 of these

with this

the 2 will move  about 200cfm  and cover  280mm across the six pieces   just blow air up  with fans forward  near the video ports

22576  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How much wattage are the 14TH actually pulling? on: November 16, 2017, 09:57:45 AM
So, the electrician is coming tomorrow morning to get me set up to mine with x4 S9's. I am still a little unclear as to whether or not I can put all 4 miners on a 30AMP circuit, but I don't know what other choice I'll have. My concern now it that the APW3++ PSU are 1600W. Does this mean they are always running at 1600W or that is the maximum that they run at? I will be receiving the late November batch of S9's and they are rated at ~1350W. Thus, 1350 x 4 = 5400W. If the 30A circuit has a voltage of 220, then that is 6600W....5400W/6600W = right around 81%. Close enough to run continuously with no worries? However, if I am wrong and the PSU's are always running @ 1600W, then putting 4 on one 30A circuit may not work. Can someone please clear this up for me? Do the APW3++ run at 1600W always? Or, is that just the maximum that they run to accommodate whatever device they are dowering?

Thanks in advance!

if  you do 220  and not 238-242

you will run 3 not 4

I'm trying to get 25-30 antminer S9s to start mining. I've had trouble finding reputable PSU suppliers for them, was curious if there are any legit ones out there. Also, I'm looking for some suggestions for racks. I'm not looking for real server racks, more just **shelves** that work.

they are quieter.  they hash better then air cooled.

I will get the messy one to look better.

I did try a custom 2 card block, but  lots of o-rings and my 60 year old double cataract eyes were barely up to the task. it does work
22579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is mining even worth it now? what if Bitcoin is WAY higher when you start out? on: November 16, 2017, 05:21:56 AM
here's my thought process.

let's say you spend 1 BTC to mine coins with nicehash and get payouts converted to BTC.

you receive your mining units two months later, and the price of Bitcoin is $12K.  You start mining, you're earning around $1300 a month (estimate, based on upcoming difficulty adjustments).  It's now going to take you at least 10 months to earn back your original return on investment.  Not to mention during those 10 months, Bitcoin could easily be tripling in price, putting it at nearly $40K, or who knows where.  So in reality, you've lost money, because you could have just held the 1 Bitcoin rather than using the 1  Bitcoin to buy mining rigs.  Am I understanding that correctly?  I feel like I'm making a mistake trying to get into mining.  Anyone have any input on this?

Buy n hold   Vs mine n hold or mine n hold plus sell gear.

A lot depends on the laws of your country.

USA tax law would call buy n hold passive investment.

The tax law would call mining a small business .

Huge tax differences .

Either way can make money or lose money.

22580  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 16, 2017, 03:59:48 AM
these long boards are perfect for liquid cooling....if you could centralize the pump and radiator per rig, that would be awesome.

a frame that can hold the board and cards and a radiator...like this.

and these rigs should be stackable

radiators can be customized, that's the key....

noise will be greatly reduced , the heat will be more manageable if you aligned all radiators and vent air through them out of the window

I am new at watercooling but you are correct.

I will post  more shots as  I went water block with mine
