2281  Other / Beginners & Help / Is upbit safe? on: April 11, 2019, 11:06:59 PM
I have coins in bittrex that i either need to sell for btc or send it to its own wallet because NY account holders are no longer allowed to use bittrex anymore.  I have shift and beancash and want to keep these coins.. dont want to sell them.  Bittrex is where i got them but i can no longer use it.  Bittrex is giving NY account holders less than 2 months to withdraw my balance from bittrex otherwise balance is nothing.

Upbit i checked do allow the trading of shift and beancash.  Anyone have reviews of upbit?  Is it safe?  Now what concerns me if say I can't use upbit or they later on they don't users from my state of NY.  Then what happens then?  Thus i cannot sell my beancash or shift?

Could i trade my beancash or shift with someone else for their BTC if they have access to those exchanges and could trade?  Such as hey can i trade you beancash for btc and i pay you an additional fee?  Reason being because i cannot sell them due to i cant use those exchanges?
2282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Delisted coins from Bittrex and withdrawal fees on: April 11, 2019, 11:02:20 PM
Bittrex just pulled out of NY.  As a NY account holder, if we have altcoins that are not easily tradeable on other exchanges, what do we do with it?  I have btc there so i could withdraw that to my hardware wallet.  But what about my other altcoins like shift or beancash?  The issue here is binance does not have them to trade.  So how could i sell them later on then if the other exchanges that trade like upbit is not reputable?

Should i just sell shift or beancash for a loss for btc and then send all the btc to my hardware wallet?  I wanted to keep those altcoins but that would mean send them to its official wallet?
2283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Delisted Coins in Exchanges... on: April 11, 2019, 10:59:43 PM
What if the exchange pulls out of your state or country?  Bittrex no longer serves NY customers and we have to withdraw our coins by a certain date.  So if we have coins that are not traded much in other exchanges such as only bittrex and another exchange has them, do you just sell it for btc?  Or you send it to its own wallet or other exchange?  What if you can't sell the coin anymore?

Could you sell that coin to another person in another state for bitcoin so to speak so they help you out?
2284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Stuck with Altcoin That Cannot Be Traded? on: April 11, 2019, 10:42:36 PM
I have a few coins from bittrex that i bought a while back.  Its on my bittrex account.  However, they sent an email to many account holders that you can no longer trade on bittrex after today which is pretty soon.  They did say you have a bit under 2 months to withdraw your crypto... otherwise its all gone.  Thus if you did not see the email and leave your coins in bittrex, i believe it will be gone after the last date to withdraw.

My issue is i have coins that i kept there mainly because they are not compatible with my nano ledger s.  I did not want to download its own wallet due to it possibly being a fake wallet etc so kept it in exchange.  But now i have to either sell it for btc or send those altcoins to a wallet or exchange that support these coins.  My issue is the coins that i have there, shift and beancash, there seems to be only 1 or 2 other site that allows trading of that coin...  shift shows upbit and livecoin.  Does anyone know if these 2 exchanges are okay?  Because i don't want to sell it on bittrex because if i do, well i can't hold the coin anymore.  Also would be selling it for a loss which is not what i want.  So should i send shift to the shift official wallet?  My concern then is say i want to sell shift in the future.   My only 2 options are upbit and livecoin.  But im not sure if they are okay?  Thus if i sell it, i would sell it for btc since you can't trade it for usdt directly.  Does anyone have tips/recommendations on this?  Now if i just want to sell it now, thats simple as sell it for btc... then get btc in bittrex.  Then later on send btc to my nano ledger s after everything.

But i also have beancash there as well.  I dont want to sell it yet.  I see there is a wallet for it online but even if i keep the beancash there, what if there is no site that allows the selling of beancash?  The only other exchange that allows for the buy/sell of bitcash besides bittrex is upbit.  I never used it before.  But its possible in the future i will be stuck with a coin because i can no longer sell it because its not in any exchange?  I read lot of coins do get delisted.  Then what do i do?  Should i sell it right now and eat the loss?  Im down a lot from this coin so thats why i dont want to sell.  Does anyone know if its possible for me to trade my beancash with say someone else from the US who is not in NY which can use the exchange where i send them beancash for btc to help me out since i cannot use bittrex anymore?  Should i download the beancash wallet and just keep it there for now?

Like advice on how to approach this.

Thanks.

I have shift in an exchange and want to transfer them to the official wallet.  Can someone tell me what is the official site for the wallet?

https://www.shiftnrg.org/

https://github.com/ShiftNrg/shift-nano/releases

Do i download nano wallet below?  The web wallet does not work.
2289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Altcoin Wallets? on: April 11, 2019, 10:13:43 PM
I have bitcoin and have them stored in my ledger.  I also have coins where you cannot store it in nano because its not compatible and need to download own wallet.  Because of this, i keep some of those coins in the exchange.  Well i want to move these coins to the actual wallet you download for windows.

Is there a way to confirm whatever wallet im downloading is legit?

I reset it as Tryninja says.  Did not uninstall and reinstall ledger live.

On the page...

Get started with your ledger device

Initialize as new device

Restore device from recovery phrase

Use as initialized device

Don't have a ledger account

I'm pretty certain its the 3rd option

Use as initialized device?

2295  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Lost Password Issue? on: April 11, 2019, 01:41:35 AM
I do not need my 24 word seed to do this correct?

No, you don't.

So i have to uninstall it from add/remove programs... then download same ledger live from the site?

You can uninstall and then re-install it using the file you've previously downloaded from the site, no need to download it again.

Could i use the chrome store to access bitcoin ledger in chrome or not?  I won't use it normally though since ledger live is preferred but can we still access it through the chrome app?

You can still use the old Chrome app but it is risky. It's better to restore your access to Ledger Live (which won't harm any asset that you have).
Basically, it's like using your Ledger + Ledger Live on a new computer.

Im bit confused here.  Can't i just click forget password and set new one and then follow the instructions and no longer need to uninstall and reinstall ledger live?

2297  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Saving your private key in your email is a lethal move on: April 11, 2019, 12:43:09 AM
Well what if something happens physically in your house then and everything is destroyed or stolen?

I understand backing up your seed in your camera by taking a picture is bad and sending it to an email is foolish.  But if its encrypted, thats not good enough?

Example you type your seed in lastpass or keepass.  You need a password to open the program to reveal all your passwords.  You then upload it to dropbox or google drive.  Now the hacker would need to first hack into your dropbox or google drive account.  Then they would need to know the password for you lastpass or keepass.  So isn't that hard already for them?  I can understand it being easy if say that person targeted your computer and send you link etc to keylog you or you download something.  Also say you use axcrypt to encrypt it.  Example you encrypt lastpass or keepass.

Now they need to

1. hack into your dropbox or gmail

2.  Know your email and password connected with your axcrypt account to encrypt the lastpass or keepass file

3.  Know the password for lastpass or keepass

So aren't these steps already pretty tough for a hacker?  The issue here though is if you do it this way, you need to remember 2 things, your lastpass/keepass password and your axcrypt password.  But the issue here is don't most ppl use a very long complicated password for axcrypt?  Thus that would mean doing this wouldn't work since you won't know your axcrypt password since its probably put in lastpass/keepass?

Also dont most of you use password managers like lastpass/keepass?  I mean u guys dont know your email and banking passwords right?  Thus keep everything there.  So if you keep everything there along with your private key but make sure you have a strong master password, that isn't safe enough?

So what i described which is the better method?  The one with the 3 steps or

1.   Hacker needs to hack into your dropbox or gmail

2.  Know the password for lastpass or keepass

The thing is i think most ppl dont know their axcrypt pw right and store that in lastpass or keepass?
2298  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PAYPAL to BTC guide/advice needed (outside us) thanks on: April 11, 2019, 12:31:24 AM
What is the rate for paypal for btc and vice versa now?

Example if i have 1000 worth of btc i want to sell, how much paypal would i get?  Would i get more than the face value of 1000?  Is it possible to get less than face value of paypal?  Or is that rare?
2299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What are your biggest challenges around security your crypto? on: April 11, 2019, 12:20:34 AM
What about where to store your seed?  You put it in your house, well a fire, theft or something like that could destroy it.  So you put it in 2 or 3 different locations?  Of course doing that exposes it even more.

Now if you have 24 word seed, you do write it in 1 piece of 2 piece or 3 pieces?  Example 12 words, its only half the seed.

Now where can you store it where its safe?  Bank deposit box?  What if thieves drill through it and steal the boxes as i have heard of cases like this?  If your seed is in the box with 24 words, well thats it.  But if nothing like that happens, couldn't an employee or someone on inside open the boxes up?  If its cash, they taking it would mean the person putting it there would know when they check the box.  The seed, well they can take picture of it or write it down.

Now what about making your seed look like something not noticeable?  Example you write the words and say 3rd grade spelling words or something like that?  What about you writing the 24 word seed but you do it as a code.  Like A = Z  B = Y etc.  Or something like A = E etc.  Then if someone gets access to it, they won't have a clue what that is because those are not words.  Of course if you do this, you need to remember what the letters a mean such as does it mean a is e or z etc.

Does anyone know of any safe storage spaces for this?  I know people say never store your seed online.  But what if you store it in your computer but encrypt it with say axcrypt.  Then upload it to say dropbox or google drive.  So let say someone was able to hack your dropbox or google drive.

They still need to

Know your password for lastpass or keepass.

Now what if you encrypt lastpass or keepass as well?  Now they need to know the password for axcrypt and also lastpass or keepass.  A risk of this would be if you forget both passwords.

Thoughts on that?  Which of these seem to be the best?  I always thought having an online backup was good in case anything physically happened.
