2281  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor or Ledger? And how to get my forks Bitcoin Cash / Gold / SV?? on: May 15, 2020, 08:21:50 AM
EDIT2: Did I get it right, with these 24 words I can access my wallet every time, even if I lose my phone?
That's right! If you wrote down the 24 words upon wallet creation on Coinomi, if you ever lose your phone you should be completely fine.

I guess the forks dont have any benefit for holding right? Or is it really possible that Bitcoin dies or got hacked etc. and Bcash or BSV get the leading coin?
That depends solely on what you support, on your thoughts & on what you plan to do. Chances of BSV and BCH getting somehow attacked are much larger than Bitcoin's imo. BSV is Faketoshi's coin so hell no, it'll never become what some people wish it would and BCH is pretty much the same pattern.

Between all 3, I'd personally place my bets on BTC. Now it also depends whether you support BCH's features instead, but the thing is that both forks claim they're the actual, original Bitcoin which is plain bullshit and the main reason I've lost respect for both.
2282  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you know any comprehensive study about lockdown effect on online gaming? on: May 14, 2020, 08:55:16 PM
I've searched as in-depth as possible to give you a good, detailed answer and I fortunately found a good study you could take a look at:

Studies made by Omer Liss @Optimove

I've also found some articles talking about the effect of lockdown among different countries or states, I think they're pretty useful too:

As far as I understand from these studies, gambling is mostly on the rise (some parts of the world having a quite significant increase) while, interestingly, some groups have actually answered the opposite - so some studies are in contradiction.

Hopefully I was able to retrieve the information you need Grin
2283  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN SLOTS] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ | Up to 0.0375 BTC/w on: May 14, 2020, 08:27:55 PM
If Darkstar digs deep enough, he can find out that Stunna gave me a really nice compliment on the quality of my posting several years ago.
Yet, you've ignored @hilariousetc's request to sign a message from address 15DYJpWJe9H1YofsNQbP9JEWWNn7XPZgbS twice in a row.

The fact that you have ignored two identical requests and are sending us back to when Stunna praised your posting quality makes your current account status even more suspicious..
2284  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor or Ledger? And how to get my forks Bitcoin Cash / Gold / SV?? on: May 14, 2020, 06:02:22 PM
Is it theoretically possible that Ledger has a backdoor for the devs?
Most of Ledger's source code is open-source. Nobody can tell you for sure what the safe element does since the code is not public. But I figure that if such a backdoor exists, they had a lot of opportunities to abuse it in the past, and they didn't.

In theory, everything is possible. Trezor is completely open-source but can you personally check the code and inspect what it does? Is it theoretically possible that Trezor's source code is also in some way backdoored or bugged but nobody knows how to find the vulnerability parts? Or those that do aren't telling us. There is that small possibility too. It all depends on you and your paranoia level.
As far as I remember, they mentioned the reason a backdoor wouldn't be worth it somewhere on Reddit, they basically said they'd have so much to lose by creating these backdoors when they could simply develop something successful and create a large company out of it - which is what they basically did. I'm a little paranoid when it comes to the closed-source manner of the safe element too, but if they ever put some backdoor inside our Ledgers and want to ever scam us all, the damage will be way beyond my loss of funds - it'd probably basically parabolically strike BTC's price within minutes.

Edit: DdmrDdmr quoted their reply

I trust my iPhone more than my mac. Because I aint have a jailbreak and aint use any crazy apps. Just the basic stuff. Risk is always there. But on the Mac I installed some apps that I downloaded from the internet and not from the app store. I will try Coinomi. But it looks like its not a easy task for a noob and needs lots of reading. If my BTC is safe, I could accept losing the forks in worst case scenario, thats ok. First I wait for the Ledger and then I do the fork stuff.
I understand. The last time I used Coinomi, sweeping a paper wallet was as simple as installing it, choosing "Sweep Paper Wallet" (or "Sweep Wallet", can't remember) from the top-right side of the screen where you have the menu, scanning the private key (or manually inputting it) on the window that pops up and that's basically it. Coinomi would then just scan my balance and do the transfer in case I confirmed the transfer.

Here is apparently a tutorial on their website for sweeping wallets: https://coinomi.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29000009716-migrating-from-other-wallets-into-coinomi, but it doesn't let me access the link from Tor to confirm whether the article is still there. Please check it out and see if it helps. Smiley

As far as I know though, Coinomi used to be open-source but it's not anymore.

The keypoint is not rushing the process. Make sure you write down the proper Coinomi and Ledger seeds on a sheet of paper and come back here if you have any question.
2285  Economy / Services / Re: [Friend Service] I will be your friend for BTC on: May 14, 2020, 05:45:13 PM
I don't think you offer real friendship but you are desperately in need of money, I offer you 0.02 of my service so I can tell you what exactly the treatment and medicine you need.  Grin
It's probably a legit service, although I barely ever understood those who pay for them. There are plenty of "one-week real virtual girlfriend" offers out there in the wild, would that surprise you as well? I mean, there's all sorts of stuff you can buy off the internet that you may see extremely weird (bath water? used undies that get more expensive the more days a girl has to wear?) Cheesy As long as there's someone to take the offer, why not, right..?
2286  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor or Ledger? And how to get my forks Bitcoin Cash / Gold / SV?? on: May 14, 2020, 04:53:16 PM
Isn't having to check for viruses on your PC and risking a possible undetected malware to affect your funds a bit more of a hassle & a risk than flashing a verified live linux image on some USB and using that one to do all the crypto stuff?

I used to almost poop my pants every time I had to create a new paper wallet, but ever since I started using properly verified live images to do this kind of stuff.. I have no more issues.

I don't know, just a friendly suggestion here Grin Manjaro for example is a pretty newbie-friendly distro you can use for this purpose imo, the only thing is that if you're a beginner to computers then I might actually put you into more difficulties. If you have a sheet of paper to properly write all the seeds on, I don't think there's much to worry about when using a live image.

You can boot into the live image, do all the transfers you need and then you'd just shut down your PC, go back to your main OS and enjoy your funds over there through whatever Ledger-compatible software you use. If you want to use only Electrum and Ledger Live, there are so many distros out there with Electrum already installed and Ledger Live is only a few clicks away from installing.

Just a little warning: shutting down your PC in Live Mode means all the changes you've made in that live system will be erased. So just write that damn seed right on the paper sheet I mentioned above and you should be fine Cheesy
2287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Great news sources about the crypto world. on: May 14, 2020, 02:54:34 PM
After reading, I always want to read what people's opinions are, so I frequently use Twitter for news.
That's a good point right there. I used to also check news on Twitter but most replies were either memes or stupid ones though, lol.

I would suggest Reddit but unfortunately it's mostly crap now. Especially r/cryptocurrency which is pretty much an anti-bitcoin pro-NANO subreddit nowadays.
I think all crypto spaces & domains that were pro-BTC have swapped their poles partially. Only very few remained, out of which I think I can only name bitcoin.org which still stands on the same supportive position it was on a decade ago. I wish I could say BitcoinTalk is one of them too, but unfortunately it's been invaded by supporters of completely garbage coins and most of those claiming to be "pro-bitcoin only" are actually shills of some useless shitcoins. The Bitcoin section is still doing fine though..
2288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Great news sources about the crypto world. on: May 14, 2020, 02:01:05 PM
There are plenty of websites out there to get your news from, so I'd rather do something else than check each one: just go over some search engine like DuckDuckGo or Google, search a term you're interested in and choose "News" up there on the loaded page. Lots of filters and includes all websites out there that specific engine has crawled. It's much better imo.

But anyway, if you spend enough time on the forum you won't even need to look for any news anymore as you'll find everything out - even those you won't find on Google's news - by simply browsing the forum and reading posts. Smiley
2289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING: Skill-based vs. Chance-based on: May 14, 2020, 12:48:31 PM
I mean, accepting the caveat we both mentioned regarding all gambling having an element of luck, there are definitely some which require skill as well. Poker is the obvious one. Take someone who has never gambled before and a gambler of 40 years' experience and sit them down together at the roulette table, they are equally as likely to win or lose. Now have them play head to head in poker, and you'd obviously be betting on the experienced player. Any sports betting is skilled based - you are using your knowledge of the likely outcomes to influence your bet, as opposed to just picking a winning a team at random.

Sports definitely have an element of luck to them too, some more than others. Everything from whether your star player is injured or unwell and has to miss a game, to whether the ball hits a divot in the grass, could be considered "unlucky".
Well, I guess the conclusion is that everything actually has an element of luck - taking the example from my previous post, "cooking" could also go wrong due to unluckiness if you get injured with a knife or some other tool; driving with a bit of unluckiness could turn into an accident etc. We're basically talking about probabilities of something to happen.

I do agree that Poker may require skill, but that does not necessarily make it a skill-based game (after reading my reply twice, I found out the talk is about games being skill-based, not skill-only as I first thought). I'm not sure, could Poker only end in a win/loss or is there the possibility to end with a tie (draw)? If you can't end with a draw between two players, then take two guys with the approximately same amount of experience and put them head-to-head - couldn't luck come in to influence who the winner gets to be? One of them drawing a very bad hand, for instance. In the ideal situation of both having the exact same experience, luck remains the only thing that truly matters if I'm correct.
2290  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING: Skill-based vs. Chance-based on: May 14, 2020, 11:57:14 AM
So is "skill-based" really a thing? Anything gambling-related has an element of luck in it, it's not like cooking where you master it the more you cook - you may get better at it, but with gambling there's still some luck you also have to depend on. Otherwise, they'd be considered sports and not gambling games, right?  Huh

Supporters of the idea that "some gambling games are actually skill-based" usually give out examples of people who turned into millionaires from being long-term poker players - isn't that exactly like giving out examples of people who turned into millionaires from blackjack and dice games?

~
Oh man, had I not searched whether Poker is considered a sport or not, I would've beat you with the timing Grin
2291  Other / Off-topic / Re: #DeGoogle - Take back control of your privacy on: May 14, 2020, 10:11:43 AM
^^^ Isn't Firefox owned by Google?     Cool
Even if it was to be owned by Google, it would mean nothing as soon as it's open-source. Tor Browser is based on Firefox on both mobile and PC (even on Tails). There are lots of Firefox forks. Android is created by Google and yet it's open-source and can be modified as much as one is willing to. You could create a super-spyware-filled OS or you could create what Replicant currently is. You're free to do anything Smiley

I don't think they are yet sadly. First quotation in this topic is on point.
Many people will say i have nothing to hide so i don't care about privacy. Biggest mistake they could make. If they will need privacy for whatever reason, it will be too late.
I, myself, have convinced over 10 people to get rid of all this data-stripping crap. If someone isn't conscious enough to understand that nothing is completely free and your data is worth much more than you'd ever pay for these services, it only means they need to be woken up to reality by someone who knows. We're so used to Google and Facebook that we don't even notice anymore that we may have an eavesdropping device sitting in every room in our house (Echo/Home). We have been taught this way.
2292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More info about Satoshi Nakamoto needed for research on: May 13, 2020, 03:44:40 PM
Why not accept that Satoshi doesn't want to become publicly known and move on?
Most don't even take into account that Satoshi may be on the first few places of some governments' blacklist, so finding out who Satoshi is may make you feel like accomplishing something but may nail someone else's coffin. Literally.

When you create something giving people freedom and truth, you automatically become a target. WikiLeaks & Snowden are only 2 of the ones still surviving after giving out crucial information.

Asking yourself why top cryptocurrency devs and founders are still alive if Satoshi is wanted? Then ask yourself why Ross Ulbricht received a 2 life + 40yrs sentence while traders from The Silk Road with 100% evidence of their illicit activity received way lighter sentences. The problem is the main brain of the hierarchy.
2293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why KYC is extremely dangerous – and useless on: May 13, 2020, 03:14:07 PM
I myself do KYC while buying ico in years 2018 if secure my data I do not quite know that KYC be misused someone irresponsible when I read this thread I realize that personal documents are very important and very dangerous if it is owned by the bad guys and used in any use for the benefit of crime.
PM me a copy of your ID. I swear it will never be misused.

You wouldn't do that, would you? Why would you give it to somebody else? Whether it's a small company, a corporation or simply a person, just why? Moreover, why do you have to give it after registering and depositing funds on most websites?

You could deposit 1 BTC on a website and I may have the password of it and complete KYC to withdraw your money from your accounts into my wallets and nobody would suspect a damn thing, I mean.. "you" have completed the identification process, haven't you? Besides IP, how would Binance know that the guy who completed KYC after their account activity turned "suspicious" is the same guy who registered?

It's just plain nonsense and too many are taking advantage of it. But it's only me and a handful of others complaining about it, everyone else says "well you should give it if you really have nothing to hide" .. -insertEdwardSnowdenquotehere-

KYC makes no sense. On "black" market it's easy to purchase KYC pass. Not necessarily stolen, just people who willingly sell their info to make some money.
Let that be their personal matter. If you'd like to sell your hands to somebody 'cause you want to make money off them, then feel free to do it. They're doing that as they will to, but nobody tells you about the dangers of KYC before registering everywhere. All you're being told is, "obey the law".
2294  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: #DeGoogle - Luati-va inapoi controlul asupra intimitatii on: May 13, 2020, 09:31:10 AM

Cheesy
2295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which is your favorite gambling game? on: May 13, 2020, 09:11:47 AM
Blackjack with friends, dice alone. Both are just as fun, but I can't play Blackjack without laughing. Grin

I hate how dice games always give you the feeling of being under control of the game for a while and then, within a few bets, you just bust all your balance. It's always worked so well but only up to some point where greed takes over and you can't help but lose. If someone can control greed THAT well, they probably have a pretty sweet wealth and they deserve it.

But Blackjack.. oh man, if you have who to play with you cannot not have fun! Although I never cashed out large sums and lost quite often, I sometimes have the luck of hitting 4-5 blackjacks in a row and my friends' reactions kill me Cheesy
:D on: May 12, 2020, 07:33:54 PM

Cheesy

Acum suntem noi, in urma cu cateva luni erati cu 1 in minus.. orice inceput e bun Wink
2297  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: #DeGoogle - Luati-va inapoi controlul asupra intimitatii on: May 12, 2020, 07:31:51 PM

Cheesy

Probabil n-as avea nici macar in cei pentru care trebuie sa platesc.

Ce-i in mana nu-i minciuna!

Cheesy
Da-i naibii. Smiley
2298  Local / Minerit / Re: Minerit in cloud? on: May 12, 2020, 07:19:27 PM

Si-asa investitia insasi in BTC e riscanta, daca te mai bagi si in cloud mining iti bati singur cuiele in sicriu.. Cheesy

Lasati-ma sa va prezint doar cateva feluri in care Google va acapareaza intimitatea.

Quote

  • Supraveghere

5-Ochi: Australia, Canada, Noua Zeelanda, UK, SUA
9-Ochi: 5-Ochi+Danemarca, Franta, Olanda, Norvegia
14-Ochi: 9-Ochi+Germania, Belgia, Italia, Suedia, Spania

Chrome

Search

Google Search, cine nu-l foloseste?

Foto

Aici aveti cateva alternative pentru Google Foto. Google are totul despre noi, nu-i lasati sa va ia controlul si asupra pozelor...

Hangouts (Mesagerie Instanta)

Android - ATENTIE: Bootloader-ul trebuie deblocat.

Multumesc

Thanks alot, very much appreciated. I have added a contribution area where I will list everyone that has contributed to the list.
I remove the hint and replaced it with a guide of how to unlock your Bootloader.
Sadly it cant be done for all phones.
Thanks for the credits. Yes, the Bootloader unlocking guide is different from phone to phone. But as long as people know it's needed, a quick search is enough. Grin

The "Eyes" Concept is based on where the company is located that made the specific program.
Multiple sources I have looked at told me they are based in a location thats part of the 5 Eye Alliance.
Oh, now it makes sense. Thought some source said they were created by the surveillance alliances.

These would probably be good alternatives to the Google OS thats installed on Chromebooks.
Replacing windows is a whole other chapter =)
Also true, you'd switch from a very intuitive UI to an OS where you'd have to use Terminal quite often. It's a pretty fun journey though for those interested in switching from privacy-lacking Windows Cheesy

Agreed, even small steps will change your privacy to the better!
Thanks for the kind words and please do translate and share the word.
Just link back to the original and get a conversation started there!
Thank you for the great thread & for the merit! Will return the favor as soon as I can, I'll make sure to translate the thread in the following few days Wink

I definitely agree that it is quite insane to stop using all Google services at some point, so gradually replacing individual applications is the best solution. I've been using Firefox again for a while now, and I'm also seriously considering putting Gmail out of use altogether. I think it’s a good start, definitely something anyone can do.
~
It's only insane because we've been taught to use their services and their mass-data-collecting apps. If we were to use FOSS apps and software and get accustomed to them from the start, right now it'd be insane to move to Google. Cheesy I've made the change within a few days and it is a bit harder to get used to it, but it's indeed worth it.

EDIT: Here you go! I've translated the topic to the Romanian board. We usually don't have that many members active over there, but every little step matters. Grin
