You still haven't answered my question about *CAN 1080s be overclocked as high*.
If they can't overclock as high as the 1070s, then insisting on same clocks is a strawman argument.
1) Methinks you have no idea what a "strawman argument" actually is (I'm refuting your claim [that you provided comparable data] with your own data).  Undecided
2) If your claim is now that the playing-field cannot be leveled, then your new claim is the same as my claim has consistently been ("you're comparing apples to bananas and rounding off to arrive at oranges and strawberries").

And to answer the question that I ignored because I thought it was rhetorical...
I would argue that, yes, 1080s can be overclocked higher than 2100 (offering as evidence that my own runs 2075-2088 with slight OC, stock air cooling, a case that's actually too small, and no voltage adjust). Wink

...This is getting really far off-topic. If you want to discuss further it should be elsewhere.  Before kano yells at us. Wink
...
This thread would lose about 1100 pages if it were pruned to "on topic" posts.  Tongue

Yeah, but Bitmain says "The APW5 is compatible with one Antminer S9 but ONLY with a 220V input. With a 110V input, we do NOT recommend that APW5 be used to run an Antminer S9." And all I have access to is 110V.

I agree s9's would be ideal, do you have a way around this?
Yeah, use standard computer PSU's, not the Bitmain ones.

Yes, that.  Wink
One example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1308296.0 *

edit:*specifically the breakout boards, not those exact PSUs

R4's are available on Bitmain...I'm hoping to ramp up to buy some R4s down the road...
If you're planing on doing any serious expansion, don't get R4s. The per/board & per/chip cost vs a "regular" S9 is taxing on your ROI.  Wink

still trying this coin ?  This coin is a scam
What is the exact "scam" that you think exists from a bonus coin that is given for what is otherwise a volunteer project? Like every other coin (including BTC), it is worth what the community around it decides it's worth; no more and no less.
2286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: December 21, 2016, 02:56:31 PM
Now you're beginning to get the point; your "more accurate info using REAL folding of REAL units than the benchmark" is meaningless because you're comparing apples to bananas and rounding off to arrive at oranges and strawberries.  Undecided
No, it's more accurate because it includes REAL mining data, abet the very precision of the date might overwhelm most.
There IS a listing that shows "summary of PPD per card type". Perhaps that's what you're looking for?
...
No, even a 10 yr old can sort. Again, you entirely miss the point..
Your "REAL mining data" is GTX1070s where nearly 50% are overclocked by 100-164MHz more than any of the GTX1080s (comparing apples to bananas).
Until 49% of the GTX1080s on your list are overclocked to 2162-2228MHz, they aren't being pushed as far as the GTX1070s; so, again, you're just rounding off to arrive at oranges and strawberries.

what happened with this coin? I heard its an obvious buy for a couple last months... and now it went so low that I'm not sure anymore...
What happened is BTC is just under $800, which in turn lowers the vs BTC cost of every coin (thereby keeping the same $ value)  Wink

.... Turns out the MAC address of the network port changed and so it was given another IP address by DHCP. Not quite sure why the firmware update would change the MAC address.
I have 3 LNs that are like that; they, literally, have a different MAC depending on which firmware I use. Embarrassed

Hello Kano and fellow miners! This is my first post and i hope to have many more. I just received my antminer s7-ln ... i plan to slowly increase the frequency daily...
Welcome aboard!

With the LNs, they do have slower fans than the S7 and ventilation is your friend if you want to push up the hashrate. Wink

this stuff is breaking up at 10-16% frequency by itself (at least earlier batches), so, no siree about 115C constantly, but you go ahead.
it will be instructive (or not).

I could run mine @750M before they'd hit 115C; I'm not the one that decided to try to run a high-speed professional-grade miner in my home.  Wink

what are you are talking about?
they were reaching 110-114C at some point before I rolled back.
good luck running your equipment at these temperatures.
note to myself: don't buy used equipment from the OP  Roll Eyes

...The miner with automatic frequency adjustment firmware will stop running when the Temp(Chips) reach to 125 -135 ° C ,there will be a error message “ Fatal Error: Temperature is too high! ” shown in the bottom of kernel log page.
The fans peed must be set above 60% to keep the PCB temperature below 80°C,and chip Temperature below 115°C...

Last I looked, 114 < 115.
That being said, they aren't designed to run in a room with an ambient temp north of 27C.
There's a perverse irony in buying a Lamborghini and deciding that it idles too high while in 2nd gear.  Undecided

When one was willing to be ripped off by buying their products, in the first place, then one already made that concession.  Tongue

... Let me know if that actually works on an older miner that was upgraded to the newer firmware.

Does a Batch 4 running @ 618.75M count  Tongue

good luck, it overheated a couple of my miners, so i had to rollback.
You opinion of "overheated" and the manufacture's seem to be 2 different things.  Undecided

...The frequency can only be change once...

Does no one ever read more than 2 posts back in this thread  Huh
You can change it every 15-25 minutes for as long as you like (or until you brick it from changing it 2,000,000,000,000 times)

I have mine slightly OC'd with static fans and if I went with the firmware upgrade I would lose the ability to do either of those things.
Scroll back a bit and I posted the link for the frequency page (will not solve your micromanaging issues for the fans, but you can set freq how ever high/low you want). Wink

It is very likely that our team will be ranked #2 right on Christmas Eve!  Cheesy
Hope Santa will bring some good Champagne! Cheesy

I had originally replied to this in good cheer (a pic of Santa holding a glass), but it seems someone has an issue with the idea of a fictional character bringing you a glass of bubbly  Undecided
