(DISCLAIMER: You must have the installed version / the source installed version for this to work. Packaged exe files will not let you mess with the innards.)
1. BACKUP YOUR WALLET FIRST! Just in case.
2. Find the Electrum install folder
3. Navigate to ...\lib\bitcoin.py
4. Open it with a text editor that supports Lf line breaks (hint: Notepad for Windows does not. but WordPad (also comes with Windows) does)
5. Search the file for "MIN_RELAY_TX_FEE = 10000" or just "MIN_RELAY_TX_FEE"
6. Change 10000 to 1000.
7. This makes it so that you can send transactions with 0.00001 BTC fees. But you will still pay whatever is in preferences, so after saving and closing, don't forget to set your preference's fee to "0.00001 BTC per kB"
You can set "= 0" if you want to get rid of the minimum, but be warned that any transaction that is not eligible for a free transaction with a fee less than 0.00001 BTC will not be relayed by most nodes.
i cannot send with lower fee or 0 fee from electrum and my transactions have more than 250 confirmations now!

faucets are way too slow and waste of time. in order to earn bitcoin you have to sell something like a service. check out the services section to get some ideas

i don't like electrum anymore. since you can not send with custom fee, ive tried everything to change it but i couldn't!

i suggest you open a faucet in your browser, a famous one, and check the banners there and see which ones they use.

I've just received an e-mail from no-reply@blokchains.info titled "Bitcoin Payment Recieved" claiming that I've received $2,031.88 Of course it's asking my to log on to my blockchain account. I'm treating it as a scam because a) mispelling in title b) e-mail is NOT from blockchain address, and c) I don't have a blockchain account. TREAT AS SUSPECT! i suggest doing a couple of things: 1) enabling 2FA 2) bookmarking the real address and using it every time 3) in email you can add filters that move specific emails from senders to specific folders that you create, that way any other email that is just similar will go into "inbox" and real emails from the real sender in this case blockchain.info will go inside that folder

Hello everyone, I'm new to Bitcoin and came across this forum in my searches. I thought it would be a good idea to register here and see what this is all about.
I run a grow store outside of Calgary and am interested in Bitcoin for my shop. I also just learned about alternates to Bitcoin. Like penny stocks. I will probably invest in those too. Anyways, my journey begins...
welcome, i suggest starting at bitcoin.org and reading a lot. also i suggest you stay away from altcoin and just watch it for a while to see what REALLY is going on there ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Suppose I create an online wallet with https://blockchain.info/ in Tor browser and keep a small stash of BTC in there. It's an anonymous stash, right? So long as I only access via Tor browser, use change addresses and send BTC wisely. But I've recently read about people running Tor exit nodes and maliciously sniffing the data through them, so I was wondering if this is a safe way of having an online wallet without anyone gaining access to my password/BTC. Any thoughts? using an online wallet with Tor is never safe, just do a quick google search on this matter and you'll see lot of people complaining about losing their hard earned bitcoins this way

@huanghq thanks a lot for creating this walk-through it was so useful I do not think that USB stick is safe wallet - there can be a lot of problems. For example, there are viruses, that use USB stick. And if you use one Linux OS - you can use only that one Linux OS, so you can not use USB stick in other machines with different OS then.
i have never head of virus on linux! there is none. the only risks for using this way are: forgetting your passwords and damaging USB stick physically nothing else comes to my mind and for preventing these two you can write your seed and/or passwords on a piece of paper and keep it safe
