is there a way I can show the users mining speed on my site like you do at bitp.it ?

there is another wiki that I started a few weeks ago. If someone would like to contribute to it - you are welcome to. The gpu comparison is live on it but not much else. this is hosted at godaddy and is not likely at all to go down. http://btcnetwork.com/wiki/

I have mined EXTENSIVELY on all the major pools, and in the long run generally as a rule the rewards are supposed to even out - but let me save you some time
the two best pools by far are deepbit.net and mining.bitcoin.cz but I have switched to deepbit because I feel that they have the most state of the art server and statistics.
don't get me wrong slush's pool is awesome (mining.bitcoin.cz) but for now im going to be at deepbit

don't get me wrong I am a huge linux fan, I am running ubuntu right now
but the fact of the matter is like someone else already pointed out - there are *nix boxes all over the place that have some god forsaken version of irix or red hat linux 6.2 or some other dumb stuff that is just ripe for the picking
windows has infinite security holes without a doubt but the fact is there are a lot more *nix boxes out there packing bandwidth than windows
I am a network administrator of 20+ years and I have also been retired from hacking for about that long, so your probably right about the botnets back in my day they did not have d.o.s. bot nets or even any effective way to d.o.s. from windows at all I actually coded in c a nice little proggie in about 1995 that was a modification of smurf.c if anyone remembers that? (or am I too old?) hehehe
ping floods do not do anything with these modern firewalls we have these days
but unfortunately even modern networks are vulnerable to tcp/udp flooding of certain types if originated from an efficient and wideband source.
anyways good luck to you tycho this kind of attack is coming from some big guns
|
|
|
firewalls can be optimized and improved to prevent denial of service attacks, perhaps bitcoind could be improved a bit too to decipher good from bad tcp packets on port 8332
|
|
|
most denial of service attacks come from hacked linux boxes in multiple countries. It is doubtful these attacks are coming from any kind of dsl or cable connection these are rooted servers sitting on t1s or t3s, a lot of them small companies or universities. If the hacker is worth anything they of course have hacked log files and are probably connecting through multiple proxy servers anyway.
to make a long story short if you could catch them would it would be difficult to do you can try and prosecute them based on some arbitrary number of supposed lost revenue due to the outage, but this would take the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencys and is not likely to happen or get anywhere
solution: increase / secure firewall at uplink, and (dont quote me on this because I know very little about bitcoind) but there may be something that can be patched that could protect it from bogus packets on port 8332
I think its very likely that some very well equipped hacked got sick of seeing bitcoin mining become a monopoly and did something about it.
no offense to tycho, slush or their respective pools but one good thing about this is it will create more diversity, lower the difficulty (maybe) and get the little guys a chance to catch up.
|
|
|
perhaps a well equipped hacker or dos kiddie got sick of seeing bitcoin being monopolized.
It does not bother me one bit. my 1 g/hash + is happy over at btcmine.com

hahah
see the funny thing is I agree with all of you
BitCoin does not need the US banking market thats what is great about it
but you have to see the comparison I am drawing between what the corporate banking system is trying to do by launching this clearXchange system and what we are doing with BitCoin
no it cant compete of course but this is their version of it, this is their competitive product for our internet commerce model. This is their attempt to accommodate current customers who would be swayed away into the BitCoin system.
again I don't believe in coincidences and this is all I am saying this clearXchange is no accident
I am done arguing, I love you all.
|
|
|
ok, I guess I am just completely insane. Sorry about that.
let me just note that when I am comparing BitCoin to clearXchange I am only comparing it as a service to send and receive funds.
I don't know where you live, but I live in a tiny town in upstate new york, USA
You could explain BitCoin perfectly and explain clearXchange perfectly
and people are probably going to think not only do they sound like two brands of the same type of service they are going to go with clearXchange because it is connected to names they know and trust.
......................
BitCoin is a service is to send and receive funds digitally clearXchange is a service to send and receive funds digitally they are both "NEW" alternatives to paypal
how can you sit there and try and tell me they are nothing alike? The bankers see clearXchange as competition to bitcoin, I guarantee it.
please do not waste any more of your breath telling me that the two are not at all alike and act like I am nuts for starting this topic, the fact of the matter is what?
do we not want BitCoin to grow as a service to accept and send payments? is this not the future of BitCoin?
are these banks not launching this clearXchange as a service to accept and send payments?
|
|
|
oh stop being like that
you can refute this all you want, but the truth is if you pitch BitCoin to my parents (average middle class americans in their 50's) and then you pitch clearXchange to them, they are going to think they are the same exact thing
we need to all realize that for BitCoin to REALLY CATCH ON as a viable currency that NORMAL EVERYDAY PEOPLE are going to use we need to come off our high geeky horses and get real. This BitCoin thing is an amazing opportunity for all of us to make money, it has been great to me I am not going to lie but for it to really go to the next step we have got to bring it to the masses and your attitude (which I see every single day on these forums) is not the attitude that is going to make this work.
|
|
|
the current American financial system can and will never be decentralized or capture the beauty of BitCoin
but it does seem to me to be somewhat of an attempt to deflect or distract if not compete with BitCoin
it is certainly not a threat to BitCoin and I never implied that but you cant doubt the fact that it is an interesting thing to see come out as BitCoin is getting so popular...
You always hear BitCoin is competition to paypal
well they said the same thing clearXchange is competition to paypal
therefore clearXchange is competition to BitCoin ;>
and although we here all know and agree when you get down to it this clearXchange is nothing like BitCoin, but if you look through the eyes of Average Joe American citizen who just got the internet for the first time a year ago and thinks that google is the internet
to that person clearXchange looks a lot like BitCoin and its coming from a name they know and trust.
----
I am sorry but I love to play the devils advocate and fire up discussions and I don't believe in coincidences
thanks for all your input! cheers!

the majority of us are not anarchists at all, and I have nothing against sovereign citizens personally, I wish that it worked, I kind of even thought it was cool until I wrote the above research paper and found out the truth. The man that discovered (invented) this spent a decade in federal prison for using it and perfected his business model while in prison to make money off of it selling it to others. He even stopped practicing it instead hosting expensive seminars under the guise of debt / foreclosure relief. It really sounds great to the common man, we are tired of getting screwed by the Government, but they are in charge and we cant beat em at their own game despite what you may think.
its unfortunate but the truth is any one I have ever heard of that has put that "complicated legal process" into action has ended up branded as a terrorist, put in federal prison or in most cases both
I read a behold a pal horse, interesting book, you know what they did to the guy that wrote it? They killed his ass. I have studied the redemption manual and I understand the concept of a straw man, but the fact is the United States of America is NOT currently operating under maritime laws despite what you think about there being gold trim around the flag, and weather you think you can achieve sovereignty from the USA or not they are not going to put up with bogus liens and sight drafts. Weather you copyright your name or not, no court is going to pay you 68 million dollars or whatever. I am sorry it sounds cool but it is not fact its fiction.
As far as Bitcoin goes this is exactly the kind of stuff us as the BitCoin community do not need to be associated with, especially us Americans.
Sometimes playing the game by the rules is the only way to play.

![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbtcnetwork.com%2Fimages%2Fminingrig.jpg&t=663&c=e8Z_MtoZPAdD5A) corsair obsidian 800d case w/ 10 fans ! Wow, that build looks amazing inside that case. I actually almost regret getting the full ATX Cooler Master tower with the red LED front fan that a lot of other people are using as well. I did not actually see this case when I made my build, I would have shelled out more for it. Nice! How's that Corsair power supply? I read somewhere that it makes an annoying buzzing noise - especially when a CPU goes into one of the C states (Intel only).
You probably can't hear the buzzing anyway ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) glad you like the rig ;> Its my baby.... ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) only thing I wish I could figure out is a way to keep it cool while mining with the case closed, im not brave enough yet to do liquid cooling on the GPU's, and ive upgraded to 8 case fans, 4 of them are 140 mm, the rest 120mm , with the air conditioning on or when its cool I can find full blast with all three gpu's and stay at 66 celcius which is awesome but when its a little hotter in the room I get up to 72-73 degrees but never above 74 I actually have never heard that buzz before I love corsair products, im a big fan... (no pun intended) im hoping this month to buy two 6990's and replace the two 6870's they are nice cards but only give a little over 300 m/hash each, which is getting more insignificant every day... but I love mining, its the most fun I could have with a $2500 monster gaming machine that just sits in the corner and hashes all day and night , i dont use it for anything else lol

not the mining side of it, but they are trying to come up with a system where individuals can digitally with computer or cell phone - send money back and forth directly to each other using a set number like a phone number,
"You will soon be able to pay your friend back for dinner or give your kid $100 by simply logging in to your bank account and entering their name and phone number. No cash, check, PayPal or silly app required."
this does not sound familar at all to you?

hello I do not wish to make the originator of this topic feel dis respected but I think the truth is important. I wrote a research paper on the redemption process and the issue of sovereign citizens and I would like you to read it. Hundreds of people have been sent to federal prison for following these steps and getting involved in this stuff, and this is VERY BAD for BitCoin, I love the BitCoin scene and we DO NOT want to get involved in this non sense. This is the type of stuff that could potential destroy BitCoin especially for us Americans involved in it. The Sovereign Citizens movement and its facilitators are actively regarded by the United States Government as terrorists and this is the kind of connection we do not need. Please Read my short essay (written in 2009) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Nu41QzAUw4uIEVUv4C-onlrBGP7jSD1TTp_AUiGnRgE/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1#thank you.

Current average hash rate: 5188.021721523151
Shares this round: 2
so, how many mega or kilo hashes exactly is 5188.021721523151
what is it measured in?
