what I'm interested in... Does the private key also degrade? I never opened a casascius coin, and all the coins I own are from 2013, so I'm not panicking. BUt I can imagine the private key could become unreadable. Does anybody know how it is actually stored?
Interesting question, I would not be surprised if the code is unreadable when your great grand kids try to redeem the funds next century. But on the other hand, maybe we will never find out - who want to redeem a year 2013 Casacius in year 2100 just for the experiment, the coin could be worth millions (not talking about bitcoin price, but as an artifact). (On the other hands "milions" of what? - also possible that dollars will not exist at that time...) Personally I am a great fan of the silver Casacius, because not only do they carry a bitcoin value but also the value of silver.

Indeed. I have some aluminium casascius coins and load them with a few mBTC for birthdays. Great gift! I gave a friend 100 mBTC in july 2013. He is very happy with is "10$ gift" at the moment Have you found a good place to buy holograms for the blank cas-coins? (I am not talking about real casascious hologram, but "any" hologram that fits and look pretty).

Hehe. Don't be sad, even buying some back then doesn't necessarily make you rich: I bought quite a few, but guess what: they're all gone except one. I gave them away or sold them to friends for around €7 or €14 a piece (don't remember exactly).
Totally agree, I would give mine away as well if they where not so darn expensive. The coins is perfect gift for birthdays or to introduce someone to Bitcoin.

If no new bids within 24 hours, the auction is over.
I am still committed to my bid.

Well, that depend on what kind of premium OP is willing to pay... Everything has its price. But if you are expecting to pay 10.1 BTC for it, then of-cause, no way.
(for the record I do not hold a Cas 10 BTC)

Be on the lookout for more auctions for my coins. +1 Would love to have a acution on a silver litecoin coin

This has to be one of the greatest marketing tactics ever. It's actually a 6 month window. Maybe April 1 maybe sept 30. Even then it's only estimated not guaranteed.
Yeah... they will properly have to mine with "my" machine a few month before it is shipped, just to make sure that Andreas can buy a 2nd Ferrari.

|
From their recent news, at least 1 month.. don't want to get ahead of myself and make any other estimates but at least another month.
All right thanks... I only got a few shares in a titan, so I don't have too much to loose, and the Jupiter's I had shares in is sold long time ago. Have a nice evening.

Does anybody know the current estimated shipping data for the Titan, anything more precise than Q2/Q3?

They are beautiful.
I bid 0.13BTC

I bid 0.6BTC and pay for shipping.

No minimum bid? So would this be an auction-sort of thing? 0.1 BTC lolz. You may need to add 1 btc to that bid. These things are rarely up for sale. He DID say ANY offers xD I'm not a coin collector, but I plan to get started... I didn't the the value of the coin... How much is the coin itself worth? Like, materials? 1/4 oz Ag is about 0.0072875 BTC (spot) + the 0.1 loaded, so that would be 0.1072875 BTC. However, all Casascius (without exceptions) goes for a high premium, much more than the metal and bitcoin value added together.

Why are these so valuable? It's just a physical BTC made by a forum member. Is there a way to verify people don't just duplicate these and re-sell them as legitimate coins?
All Casascius coins goes for a high premium these days, especially the first batch (the "error coin"), the reason for the high price is that it is a collectable. You have to be a collector or a fan of Mike's work to appreciate the coins. As for the duplicates - they have already been spotted on ebay: http://casascius.wordpress.com/2014/02/05/beware-of-fakes-on-ebay/ The possibility of a fake is definitely something you should be aware of as a collector. Nevertheless I have only seen one case for Casascius coins. I followed the case about the fake 25 BTC here on the forum - there was basically two forum members with the same coin (same public key). Mike helped verify which member who owned the right coin. I have seen one case for Smoothies coins (the 25 LTC), but it is more a cheap knock off than a copy.
|
|
|
Is there any better estimate on the delivery date beside "Q2/Q3" ?
|
|
|
I believe the coin in the OP is the cheap copy of Smoothie's 25 LTC, with no LTC value. Beside - I seriously doubt that the mint is 1 oz .999 Silver - as claimed. IMO calling something 1 Oz .999 Ag when it is not, is equal to scam.

can I ask why you PM'd me your (overpriced) price of 4btc with a 'brand new' username? >>> anykeywhy' with an apostrophe? new user registered today?
I have unfortunately seen this type of scam attempt a lot of times lately, I spend quite some time in the "marketplace" section. All buyers MUST be aware of this.Check and double check that is the right person PM'ing you, especially when the message contain a bitcoin adr. I think we (as a community) need to use PGP signatures more often. @OP Good luck with the sales.

If these are grid seed blades and you are in the usa: I will buy the 2. I will pay you more then 800 I will pay you 420 for 1 Then I will pay you 420 for the second. What is the catch. My trust rating is perfect. So send me one and you trust me. As soon as it arrives in my home and works at 5mh or so I send the coin to you. 420 worth of btc or ltc I have both . once you get the coin for the first send me the second. once again I will send the coin once I get it and it works. If you are honest and have working grid seed blades you will not get a better deal then this. If you are a scammer you won't do the deal. my two year trust on this site https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=64507my 10 year ebay record http://www.ebay.com/usr/philipma1957http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=philipma1957I can vouch for philipma1957, great and honest guy, I would take this offer if I was you.
