Now look to the regions that were previous Soviet block like Ukraine - they're doing just great today Tongue

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Ukraine is not a good example in this regard. It sided alternately with US or Russia, changing allegiance with every other president. In reality, it sided with wherever the current oligarch-in-power saw most profit. Yanukovich topped it, trying to suckle both cows, and failed. On the population level Ukraine was always divided (http://stanislavs.org/two-ukraines/).

A better example would have been Belarus or Kazakhstan. And in Belarus, for example, all of the country's industry remained intact and functioning, unlike in Baltic countries...
2302  Other / Politics & Society / Re: AN-26 last flight over Donbass. on: July 14, 2014, 03:35:36 PM

The most telling thing about this video is the sound of people, who are watching the fall of the plane, celebrating, clapping hands. They make a short remark if the pilot parachuted out, and speculate if the plane will fall on Russian territory. There are voices of several women. One of them saying how pretty it burns. Smiley

To sum it up, people are not happy with Ukrainian air force. Not happy at all.
2303  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Six US Presidents Have Destroyed Iraq on: July 14, 2014, 10:47:28 AM
By the logic stated in the OP Stalin was quite a successful leader.

Nevertheless, when Germany invaded Soviet Union, people went to battle under slogans "For Motherland. For Stalin."

I would be the first to condemn what Stalin did to Soviet Union and to Russia, but still any external intervention will only lead to more suffering and turmoil. Such problems must be resolved by a nation from within.

This all started from the kidnapping right? I remember the outrage it sparked within the Jewish community here at the home front of the east coast.

Yes.

Blood for gas: Why Bibi is punishing Gaza
http://rt.com/op-edge/172524-bibi-punishing-gaza-ethnic-cleansing/

Quote
A quick recap is essential. US Secretary of State John “Bullhorn” Kerry was conducting a sham exercise known as “peace talks” between Israel and Palestine. As expected, it failed miserably. Hamas and the PLO in Palestine then formed a technocratic unity government. Bibi was, predictably, furious.

Then two Palestinians – not Hamas – kidnapped three Israeli teenager settlers hitchhiking at night near Hebron. One of the hitchhikers somehow managed to call an Israeli police emergency number on his mobile. The kidnappers freaked out and shot the hitchhikers on the spot, dumping their bodies.

Then all of Israel freaked out. For three weeks, tens of thousands of soldiers were involved in search parties. The media went berserk – immolating Palestinians in a racist funeral pyre.

There’s wild speculation all across the Arab street this has been an Israeli false flag. Evidence, though, seems to point to the 10,000-strong Qawasmeh tribe in the Hebron region – which is known historically to openly antagonize Hamas and attack Israeli settlers. There’s also the possibility the kidnappers wanted to use the hitchhikers for an exchange with Palestinian prisoners.

Quote
The numbers don’t do justice to the appalling carnage. By Monday, over northern Gaza, after Israel warned residents to leave the area to avoid airstrikes, at least 167 people were killed – the majority of them women, children and elderly civilians, 30 by Israeli rockets – and over 1,000 injured. Two hundred houses, not military installations, were totally destroyed and over 1,500 houses partially damaged.

Compare it to zero deaths in Israel. An IDF spokesperson gruesomely boasted that Gaza – a de facto slum/concentration camp – was being bombed every 4 1/2 minutes.

And here is where manslaughter in Ukraine and murders in Palestine connect:

Quote
So here’s the “secret” of Operation Protect the Zionists, sorry, Protective Edge: without smashing Hamas, which controls Gaza, Israel cannot drill off the Gaza coast. For Bibi as well as the Knesset, the possibility that the Palestinians could have access to their own gas-generated wealth is an absolute red line.

And the EU may be on it as well. No one in Brussels will admit it, but it’s easy to conceive “strategists” regarding this takeover of Palestinian gas fields opening the door in the future for the EU being less dependent on Gazprom, and a substantial importer of (stolen) Israeli gas.

2308  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Federation under Ukrainian bombs. on: July 14, 2014, 07:24:53 AM

Russia is prepared for a war, if the west is pulling into Russia. It's similar to the cuba situation for Russia.. the US isn't too happy about rockets being put in Cuba, and neither is Russia about rockets being put in Poland or even in Ukraine.

And to be historically correct, the only reason Soviet Union was sending those rockets to Cuba in the first place, was because US placed their rockets in Turkey. The history seems to be repeating itself now...

2310  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Maidan is a FSB project" :) :) :) on: July 14, 2014, 07:19:40 AM
The current Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov called the Maidan for FSB project. It needs to be reminded that he was the Commandante of the Maidan, so does it mean he is an FSB agent? Grin

Also I find it hard to believe that CIA swallowed this "FSB plot" hook, line and sinker and sent their representatives to Maidan - CIA chief was there, vide-president of the US was there, the famous cookies, accompanied by Nuland/Nudelman were there...
2311  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US ‘kidnaps’ Russian MP’s son to ‘exchange him for Snowden’ on: July 13, 2014, 06:10:23 PM
Do you care to elaborate? The press in eastern europe and in russia is far from free and is controlled/influenced by the governments there, on the other hand the press in the US does not answer to the government in any way.

Do you really believe what you are writing? I've read articles in the Russian press, criticising the government to a degree that would not have managed to slip through the censorship in the West.
2312  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Federation under Ukrainian bombs. on: July 13, 2014, 06:05:46 PM

I don't see bright future for Ukraine because Russia will continue to pressure them and EU and USA will just talk but will not do anything, as always in the past.

Russia does not have much interests in Ukraine as a state. People, living in the East-Ukraine, on the other hand, have quite a lot of historical and economic interest in Russia.

At this point this informative article might be of help. Smiley
http://stanislavs.org/two-ukraines/

As for agendas, mine is to help at least a little in breaking the tangible information blockade from the West that befell this conflict.

Hypocrisy!

Ukraine urges Russia not to accept orphans fleeing war zones
http://rt.com/news/172396-ukraine-orphans-evacuation-russia/

Quote
The children’s rights ombudsman of Ukraine demanded Russia send back Ukrainian orphans who cross the border after evacuation from battle zones in the country’s east. The ombudsman accuses Russia of “kidnapping” and violation of children’s rights.

...

Maryinka is exactly the city from which 54 orphaned children have just been evacuated, to gain a safe haven in Russia.

30 civilians were killed on Saturday by pro-Kiev military forces in overnight shelling on Maryinka, a town near Donetsk, in southeastern Ukraine. There is also, as yet, unconfirmed reports that the Maryinka orphanage building has been destroyed.

In the neighboring city of Lugansk, six civilians died on Saturday in shelling by Kiev’s troops and eight more were taken to hospital.

The Sails of Hope orphanage was severely damaged by artillery fire in the city of Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine in late May. Fortunately, there were no casualties among the children, all of whom were successfully evacuated from the building on May 19.

And a very telling reader comment:

Kiev complaining about Orphans going to Russia must rank in the top strata of hypocrisy.
When your military shell towns and villages, Kills civilian parents do they really expect the children to be sent to the tender mercy of the killers?
Perhaps Kiev want the children for indoctrination in case they may harbour a grudge against the killers?

Is Donetsk currently divided by Ukraine and Russia? Is there a wall that separates this two countries?

No these are two different cities:
In RF
In Ukraine

The distance between them is 219km

To add to that, many times when you see CNN and their ilk report news from Russia, if you look closely, you'll notice that they reference RIA Novosti, Interfax or ITAR-TASS, while often altering the angle of the news item ever so slightly to match the corporate guidelines.

So, has Russia taken control of Ukrainian yet? Should be a simple task for such a big country.

That's the pincher, isn't it? Smiley Russia was never interested in taking control over Ukraine, unlike some Western powers tried to misrepresent.
2319  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US ‘kidnaps’ Russian MP’s son to ‘exchange him for Snowden’ on: July 12, 2014, 09:18:23 PM
Anyone can edit/make a wikipedia article.

Your source that is in russian only says that he was captured, but does not mention Snowden once in the article/release.

Reference to Snowden came from the father of the arrested man. It was his personal assumption, if you cared to actually read the articles.

As for Interfax: Go to the source.

In 1989 it became the first non-government independent news agency in USSR.

How accurate is the news? You have another source?

http://www.rferl.org/content/us-homeland-security-hacking-seleznyov-russia-arrest/25449250.html

On the other hand:
http://www.interfax.com/newsinf.asp?id=519051

So no, presumably it's just information wars, until further notice.
These sources are not what I would consider to be credible.

If something like this really had happened, or if there was a credible lead on something like this happening, it would likely be all of the MSM

Interfax is a reliable source. Anyway, it's confirmed from Psaki side of the ocean.
I have never heard of interfax outside of this thread. Do you have any other sources that would back up that Interfax is a reliable source.

Interfax has existed for many years. Their counterpart in the Western world is Associated Press.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interfax

Now, as for a reliable source of information, would you consider Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation to be reliable enough [sarcasm].

Here is the statement from the source:
