2301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins on: July 13, 2014, 06:00:50 PM
look for coins with active dev and active community. New coins are more risky. If dev is still around after 3 or 4 months it is probably a bit safer. Very careful with new coins these days. Lots of scams.

This sounds like good advice.

For me it took several months of research and then over a year to build a reliable coin. Remember, cryptocurrency is not only about investing, it's also about giving back to the currency your own creative energy. Good luck!

Judging by your address you are rich as fuck while im poor as fuck. Could you please send me 1 BTC? I didn't buy back then because they always associated BTC with ilegal activity and ignored it, then I found out when it was too late. Im now suicidal as fuck for life because I could have retired my family and myself, that feel when no luck.

Post your story up in the bitcoin reddit with a sad photo and you should get tons of tips. lol

... I believe that Satoshi started a masterpiece when he first created Bitcoin and wanted to become part of a team that would "remain present" and continue building upon his unfinished creation.

2304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How we crypto-geeks get it wrong & the reality of altcoin success. on: July 13, 2014, 01:46:21 AM
Innovations come out of altcoins all the time, most of them are useless but few are good and will help. Almost all coins will die but the innovations will remain.
I don't know if the next big crypto will be decided by users and will not be created like altcoins are now.

I feel the greatest success will come from the coin that your average consumer embraces. Build a coin that is tailored for the consumer and you will have great success. Build an innovative client with built-in support for other coins and you will conquer.

2305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is CryptoCurrency a Joke? on: July 13, 2014, 01:39:32 AM
True, but its very young yet. The same could have been said about Apple years ago and look at them today.

There's a lot of covert development occurring behind-the-scenes at the moment in Canada.

I think the Apples and Googles will be emerging soon. ( Wink )

Will it make BTC's price go up? any toughts?

The trend could possibly be a slowly closing gap between the price of BTC and the top Altcoins.

My best guess would be we'll see a mostly stable to slowly rising Bitcoin price along with vast increases in the market capitalizations of alternative currencies over time.

2314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / USD Trading Begins Tomorrow at Cryptsy.com on: June 30, 2014, 04:06:59 PM

It’s a legal and regulatory achievement that many experts said would simply never happen. For years, it has been possible to purchase Bitcoins directly with USD. Now finally, beginning tomorrow, that option will extend to altcoins as Cryptsy, the World’s largest altcoin exchange, turns on the U.S. dollar markets July 1st.

Cryptsy founder Paul Vernon, aka BigVern, started his journey into digital currency just a few short years ago as a mining pool operator. After seeing a need by miners to exchange their mined coins, he built a small private exchange for his pool users. That tiny exchange has since blossomed into an American digital currency powerhouse.

2315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Overstock CEO Calls Bitcoin Code "Slop" on: June 23, 2014, 02:13:31 AM

On Saturday, Overstock’s CEO Patrick Byrne delivered a riveting keynote speech to the participants of this year’s Bitcoin in the Beltway conference.

In his much anticipated appearance, he announced that Overstock would be donating 3% of the company’s Bitcoin sales to organizations working to promote cryptocurrency around the world. He also admitted that he was quite cautious about integrating Bitcoin at first, but has been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm shown by customers.

When an audience member asked whether he believed that in the future a select number of popular altcoins could serve as competing currencies, Byrne responded that he favors competing currencies in theory and feels like they could truly compete with Bitcoin as long as they offer superior technical features.

He then went on to acknowledge that the core Bitcoin code contains a lot of “slop,” which he speculated could cause potential logistical problems for Bitcoin in the future.
