<Snip>
Nicely done! Did you try contacting Ledger support to explain the display issue to them? Not that you need it now after getting it fixed, but they have been known to send free replacement devices even after expired warranties. That is, if you have the necessary proof when and how you purchased the wallet. They no longer sell the Nano S, but I am sure they still have them in their storage lockers somewhere, taking up necessary space for other items.
2322  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Fake wallet scam! on: May 16, 2023, 07:48:23 AM
To buy from authorized official resellers. Like in my country, there are few resellers, but no single authorized official reseller of Trezor wallets. If I want to get Trezor, it will be from official reseller.
Always buy from the official shop if you can. If not, use an official reseller linked on Trezor's website. Never trust the information and promises online shops post on their websites. The Trezor resellers network can be found here: https://trezor.io/resellers
If the site claiming to be an official partner is not on that list, don't buy from them.

If someone read everything on the links below, the person will be able to differentiate an original Trezor from a fake one.

https://trezor.io/learn/a/authenticate-model-one
https://trezor.io/learn/a/authenticate-model-t

A fake Trezor can not copy the original Trezor 100% and there are some things to follow like these:

Quote
All Trezor devices are distributed without firmware installed - you will need to install it during setup. This setup process will check if firmware is already installed on the device. If firmware is detected then the device should not be used.

The bootloader verifies the firmware signature each time you connect your Trezor to a computer. Trezor Suite will only accept the device if the installed firmware is correctly signed by SatoshiLabs. If unofficial firmware has been installed, your device will flash a warning sign on its screen upon being connected to a computer.
The problem here is that if a user is tricked into buying a fake device, they obviously don't know much about the info you quoted. If you can trick them to purchase a fake Trezor, you can most probably also trick them into install an unofficial firmware and use a phishing app, instead of the real Trezor Suite. You are either careful and can spot these things or you don't. A fake device would be shipped with accompanying documentation that instructs the victim about what software and firmware to download. And it wouldn't be the genuine ones.
2323  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor Suite Lite for mobile on: May 16, 2023, 07:30:39 AM
This is basically a portfolio tracker with the added function of master public keys, allowing you to generate and share receiving addresses. What is missing is the option to send crypto as no seeds and private keys are coupled with it obviously. Perhaps, it's the beginning of full support for mobile device onboarding, which still doesn't work with Trezor.

I will try to check it out at some point soon and make some changes. I just know that with my luck, once I do make the necessary edits, things will go back to normal a few days later, and it will be time to adjust everything again.  Grin

Thanks again for taking the time to report on the changes!

Anything else anyone can think of? Like...
How about have the mental strength and willpower to say no! If you are single and still in your 20s where your decisions don't affect the lives of others that much, it's not that big of a deal. You are only doing harm to yourself. If you have a family and kids who look at you as their superhero, start acting like one, at least when it comes to knowing good from bad. Your actions impact those around you in so many ways.
2326  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which best for long term investment? Hardware wallet or Software wallet . on: May 15, 2023, 07:41:51 AM
I want to say that no matter how good the security is in a wallet, including the type of hardware wallet, it will not work properly if it is not used properly.
Luckily with hardware wallets, there is very little you need to do. They are very convenient and newbie-friendly. I am talking about the two most popular brands. The airgapped ones require a bit more work like moving signed/unsigned transactions to SD cards, via QR codes, etc.

Other than that, your job is to ensure you use a genuine software, send and receive to the correct addresses, and pay appropriate fees. Protect your seed and don't get phished. The latter is more about being generally cautious and using common sense than requiring technical skills to operate a hardware wallet.
2327  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: static or mempool for withdrawal on: May 15, 2023, 07:24:02 AM
why wouldnt everyone just pick static lowest transaction fee when doing bitcoin transactions?
Because the mempools wouldn't even accept their transactions and add them to the list of other unconfirmed ones. Or your transaction would have a low priority, which would result in you waiting days or weeks for a confirmation. It doesn't matter what you call it (ETA, mempool, or static), you have to pay a high-enough fee.

Don't rely on what Electrum or any other software shows you as a recommendation. Learn how to check the current state yourself by going to https://mempool.space/ and https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC%20(default%20mempool),8h,weight before you send bitcoin.
2328  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin Electrum on: May 15, 2023, 07:10:35 AM
We recommend using the desktop version of Electrum. It's easier for you to use. Choose the Multisig one.
The desktop client is definitely better than the mobile wallet because it doesn't lack in certain features like the mobile version does. But I wouldn't suggest to a beginner to use a multisig wallet. OP should learn and get some experience working with a standard wallet first. A multi-sig wallet would only make sense if he had multiple signing devices for each individual private key. Generating multiple seeds/private keys on the same device doesn't improve your security as everything is in one place. It's one point of failure. His transactions would also weigh more causing him to pay bigger fees when transacting. It would make sense if he used a multi-sig wallet together with a computer, smartphone, and hardware wallet, for example.
2329  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Where is the private key on Electrum Android? on: May 15, 2023, 06:57:39 AM
It is not a seed phrase wallet, I used private key for it, not extended private key, I used private key that starts with K. I am not at home to use my laptop to know the private key. What should I do?
If you created an Electrum wallet by importing a private key, it means you have that private key somewhere. If you have backups of it, why do you need to view that same key in the Electrum client? If you think about it, it's better for your security if it isn't there because we are talking about a hot wallet. Hopefully, this means that private keys can't get stolen and obtained by outsiders.
2330  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi wallet hacked, all funds stolen on: May 15, 2023, 06:16:26 AM
I thought the same thing had happened to my eth in my coinomi wallet but resetting the app cache and restarting then loading the eth coin restored it.
Whenever there is a discrepancy, the first thing you do is to check the transaction history. Look for outgoing transactions you didn't make. If the software reports that it's up-to-date and the transaction history is ok, then check your address/addresses on blockchain explorers. Again, if there is nothing unusual there and it doesn't show unknown transactions, you can safely say there is something wrong with your wallet.
2331  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger vulnerability: Invalid addresses for certain miniscript policies on: May 14, 2023, 04:31:09 PM
I wonder what they mean with complex spending conditions? I assume it's got nothing to do with standard sending/receiving, generating addresses, etc. Could it be related to Taproot and the "bitcoin tokens" and ordinals?

If I understood correctly, for a successful attack, the software you use would have to be malicious, hacked, or manipulated with malware. The second condition is that the user doesn't verify the address on the hardware wallet screen. Apparently, Liana is the only client where the Miniscript feature worked completely.
2332  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: (announced) WATERPROOF CRYPTO WALLET CASE for Ledger Nano and Trezor Hardware St on: May 14, 2023, 04:08:47 PM
Okey folks, How about the stainless steel recovery seed phrase offline tool? Although it's not a hardware wallet case, but it's resistant to water and fire, and since it secures the wallet phrase, even if the hardware wallet gets damaged, we still have our phrase to get new hardware and recover the wallet.
Take a look at the stress test that Jameson Lopp performed on several metal seed plate solutions. Billfodl performed badly. When the plate got subjected to heat, many letters fell out of their original positions. That could result in messing up your words and word sequences. As m2017 mentioned, there shouldn't be any small moving parts on the plates, and that's exactly what Billfodl has. You can also see pictures with final results of the tests towards the end of the blog post.
2333  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: May 14, 2023, 08:44:55 AM
Maybe everyone except me. I have never though that model T is secure. It lacks secure element.

Those HW that have secure element are quite different thing.
Keep in mind that secure elements come with no disclosure agreements. If the company's security department finds or knows about a possible vulnerability, they aren't allowed to go public about it. For all we know, there could be a way to attack these chips with physical access (most probably not remotely), but someone would have to come out and say it. They won't and can't because they are bound by NDAs. A valid question would be, why is there a need for an NDA if everything is as secure and safe as advertised?
2334  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor standard v hidden wallet? on: May 14, 2023, 07:47:15 AM
I have made the password quite challenging, but at the same time it is possible to commit it to memory.
Can you tell me, if I lose or forget my password, how would I retrieve my coins?
That depends on what you consider challenging. A simple passphrase could be bruteforced in seconds or minutes. A complex one would perhaps require millions of years. It's easier to say never in that case.

Because as I understand, I have one seedphrase for the two wallets (hidden, standard).
Would I need to enter the seedphrase in another device (eg. Electrum) to get my coins back? And would they all appear "together"?
If you have 0.1 BTC in your standard wallet and 5 BTC in your hidden wallet, here is how it would work. If you enter your seed in Electrum and choose BIP39 and the correct derivation path in the options, you would recover that 0.1 BTC. To gain access to the 5 BTC, you'll need the correct passphrase on top of that. So those are two different wallets. And the passphrase has to be exactly the same because there is no such thing as a wrong one in the protocol's eyes. 'Sumarokov' will recover one account, 'sumarokov' a completely different one. The recovery of your coins depends on you entering the identical passphrase. Even empty spaces count as valid characters.

Wow, for the hint with Ian Coleman's's site, but your answer would be more complete if you provided link to this site. I understand that all the necessary instructions are available on this website?
This is the site > https://iancoleman.io/bip39/.
You should download the latest version from GitHub if you are planning to use it. You can read a bit more here >https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39.
2335  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Trust wallet dust UTXO error on: May 14, 2023, 07:15:04 AM
It seems you were quite impatient to see those transactions get confirmed. I don't see why because you sent the coins to yourself. There wasn't a trading partner on the other side waiting for his money or anything. In those cases, it really doesn't matter if the first confirmation is in 2 hours or 10 days.

If you had just left those parent and child transactions alone, they would have gone through by now by themselves. There is less than 0.4 vMB of transactions paying 25 sat/vByte right now, which is your effective fee rate. That means, everyone paying that amount will have their transactions confirmed in the next 1-2 blocks unless we don't see a sudden spike in new transactions or long waiting times between blocks. Sometimes it's just about being patient and not being in a hurry.
2336  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger: get up to 30$ in free BTC. on: May 14, 2023, 07:00:31 AM
Free shipping is also a nice bonus, but I didn't find information about what this generosity in mid-May is connected with. There are no big holidays now and ledger is trying to boost its sales. It seems that. Has the number of buyers decreased?
I don't think you will get any official data from companies about how their sales campaigns are going. But judging by what has been happening with exchanges in the last months, I am sure that Trezor and Ledger (as the two most popular brands) have managed to incentivize loads of new users to buy their products. With more sales under their belt, they can now afford to give discounts. It's either that or they miss the days of the FTX fiasco when people were running their way and this is their attempt to get those numbers back up again.
2337  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger: get up to 30$ in free BTC. on: May 13, 2023, 12:26:55 PM
Since m2017 used this thread to mention a similar Ledger discount, I don't think I should open a new one just for this piece of information. Sorry if it was already reported somewhere else earlier.

If anyone is still interested in purchasing a Ledger hardware wallet, they can do so until 23 May with free shipping.

2338  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: May 13, 2023, 12:16:06 PM
I tried to find a list of supported shit-coins and tokens, but their website doesn't seem to give away much.
Their FAQ seems to only talk about Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance-Chain. In the video I also see Solana, Polygon Dash and a few more, though.
Yeah, the website is quite useless for that purpose. I see that they added a timeline on the top. Maybe you can follow it into the past to check the release notes to see if they mention which alts they included. They don't have a contact form, live chat or a support ticket. You might find more info on their Discord or reddit channels.

I was interested in trying the wallet due to some USDT I have on Tron, but they don't support that network at all. The only way to know for sure is to install the client and try to find and enable the assets from the list. If it doesn't work, they don't support it.
2339  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What is the most that governments can do if they decide to regulate wallets? on: May 13, 2023, 08:04:52 AM
That is very interesting and I have not heard of that. Are there many supermarkets that accept bitcoin and have you paid there already? How did this with the KYC go? What should be the consequence if they report your name after the KYC?
pooya87 doesn't look like the type of guy who would undergo KYC and share his personal details with some supermarket chain that probably has no idea how to safeguard such records. Using bitcoin in the UK isn't illegal, so you aren't going to get into trouble for using it. The government want's to tax you when you exit crypto and go back into fiat. That's the reason they are keeping tags.
2340  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which best for long term investment? Hardware wallet or Software wallet . on: May 13, 2023, 07:26:59 AM
I would also vote hardware wallets as the best one. Whenever it comes to the software wallet there are many human errors are possible. You could end up losing your private keys to pass phrases over phishing and anonymously you could compromise the wallet right on spot.
Nowadays, we don't need to bother about individual private keys. With HD wallets, all we care about are the seed phrases. Private keys are accessed in the background during transaction signing but it's not something you as a user need to worry about. You are supposed to make seed backups with both software and hardware wallets. The dangers of phishing and social engineering scams are threats to both. A hardware wallet can't protect you from making mistakes and revealing your seed or entering it in a phishing site.
