2323  Economy / Goods / Re: Bit-Hdtv.com Invites Limited Offer :) on: September 08, 2012, 11:47:22 AM
Invite Cost only -> 0.7 BTC !

General Overview:

BIT-HDTV is one of the better HDtrackers and has been online for over 4 years. The site is decent for TV content, but great for movies. It has had 2 hugely popular release groups as internals in the past- FraMeSToR & EuReKA, and presently has Grond & Kink. Something I really like about this tracker is that all files are uploaded unrar'd, which is a specially handy quality given the generally large file sizes. Most encodes are in x264, and XVids are therefore, very rare to come by. The site has a very clean design, but since it runs a TBDEV frontend, numerous encodes of the same titles are scattered about, and as a result the browse pages come off as unorganized. The site is invite-only and has been so for as long as I can remember.

bit-hdtv being one of the better hdtrackers is a bit of a stretch
2324  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Version 0.7.0 release candidate 2 ready for testing on: September 08, 2012, 11:30:59 AM
Hey, I'm getting this error twice while starting bitcoind (0.7.0rc2 beta) on Windows XP. It then exits.

Code:
Error: An error occurred while setting up the RPC port 8332 for listening: open: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used

(0.6.3 on the other hand, is running fine on this system)

EDIT:

 1. Just to confirm that I made sure that 0.6.3 was NOT running at the same time

 2. Tried to reboot, doesn't help

 3. I'm actually getting another socket-related error first. Log follows.

 4. Tried disabling the firewall, doesn't help

I have this problem on one of my ubuntu machines.  To get it to work, it requires editing out some mention of ipv6 in the the bitcoinrpc.cpp file.

though I believe for me (on ubuntu) I've had to do this on every release from 0.6.3 on up

see:

Post by: pooler on July 27, 2012, 01:35:40 PM

As I've already said, I got the same error with the latest bitcoind, and to make it work I had to disable IPv6 and patch bitcoinrpc.cpp.
Commenting out lines 2664 (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/c1aed4eff468d8152231b7a857c2edd4e10eca80/src/bitcoinrpc.cpp#L2664) to 2681 (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/c1aed4eff468d8152231b7a857c2edd4e10eca80/src/bitcoinrpc.cpp#L2681) (inclusive) is a quick and (very) dirty fix.

not sure if those lines still match up in 0.7.0 or not, but i know what to edit out by now.

using onlynet and/or disabling ipv6 during compile results in the same error.

... or as I've stated before ...
Only transfer the block header, coinbase txn and merkle tree by default then get the recipient to say if it wants the transactions and which ones (a list) from the merkle tree.
Most bitcoinds already have ALL txn but the coinbase, so that is a massive waste and always has been.
Secondly, why are the txn's re-validated, shouldn't they have been validated when they were received the first time?

I'm certainly by far not an expert at this.. but I would assume that you there is a "trust no one" factor here, you can't safely assuming incoming transactions are validated already.
He meant the clients might have already seen the transaction broadcast before, so would have validated it themselves already. That is indeed already cached, but there are a lot of transactions that don't get seen by any given node (about 10% IIRC), and the back-and-forth of requesting missing transactions would add delays - though it might make sense on top of the basic block distribution parallelization I mentioned, but it will need to be benchmarked.
Well the request would simply be a full request (from the merkle tree) of the missing transactions.
A single request not multiple.
Very simply to know what is missing since the merkle tree lists all the txns and thus the reply would be those at the bottom of the tree you don't already have.

As for 10%? Where do you get that figure from?

I wrote a little transaction processing module to add to bitcoind (that I run all the time), that, among other things, specifically tells me the number of missing transactions.
After about a day from a restart, it was EXTREMELY rare for it to not have every txn except of course the coinbase (which no one will already have except the person/pool who found the block - and why of course I said that should always be sent)

I'd very much doubt that 10% number.
However, even if it was as extremely high as 10%, it would be way faster to send back a reply of 10% of the transaction numbers, then get those 10%, than sending the full 100% every time when 90% of them are unnecessary.

As for the memory pool txn's - why would there be a txn in there that wasn't already verified?
What extra verification is done when the txn's are received with a new block that isn't already done as each txn comes in?
well, you probably have more connections than the avg bitcoin user.

many will only have 8

all this talk of stuff melting and fires and squeeling makes me cautious to purchase the working 5870

but my offer would be more along the lines of $125 shipped anyway

how bizarre

well, then, i guess i'll admit i was wrong

i've been on the internet since the late 80's, so typing in full web addresses is just second nature (if they aren't in my bookmarks).  i.e., i don't have a bookmark for yahoo, so i type in yahoo.com (don't bother with www)

going to google and searching first seems rather inefficient

but, i guess this is why people get paid a penny or two to spam search on mturk

You should change the name of this thread to 'Selling "Candy" for BTC'.  The last thing this project (BTC) needs is a derogatory or misinterpreted presentation.

just doesn't have the same ring to it....
everyone is going to scroll past candy for bitcoin.... no one is going to scroll past negro for bitcoin without clicking.  i like his tactics.
only reason I opened it.. the wtf factor..

and now I just bought some!

it looks like i trumped myself by it being passed to bitcoind and acknowledged there first?
2332  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Minning Rigs Must Go !!!! Sale(Reduced Price) on: September 06, 2012, 12:05:18 PM
If you are interested in selling just the GPUs I'd be willing to offer $300 for the 4 gpus.
I'll cover escrow fees thru Graet and shipping costs.

abracadabra

Not really looking to sell the rig in parts.  I have sent you a pm of a possible offer, let me know if you are interested.

Please also submit your best offers everyone

shipping case would cost a lot, eh?  problem with 6870 is that they cost way too much for same hashing power (or maybe even a bit less) as a 5830.

i would just want:

mobo+cpu+1gb memory+psu+5850+5830+5830   (well, i'd take the case if it was a local pickup, but..)

my offer wouldn't even approach what you're looking for (well, ok, it'd be around $450)

however, i would offer you more than $300 for those 4 GPUs, seeing as how I could get rid of that 6870 for around $125 on ebay.

is it still possible to purchase negro?

Of course! Wink I've updated the OP so now it contains more information! Please pick your flavor(s) and send me your postal address, if you're interested! Smiley

If everything goes well, packages of recent orders will be sent tomorrow and they'll arrive in approximately 2 weeks.
PM'ed

sounds like something that might be fun to take with on DART bus in downtown dallas
2335  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTB BLOCKCHAIN.COM DOMAIN NAME on: September 06, 2012, 11:39:58 AM
Unless you can get it cheap... Not many people type in domain names anymore.. As in the whole thing. People use google and if they like the site web browser auto completes the url to site if they go back....

Why bother now days? This aint dotcom boom anymore where pets.com might have had actual value in getting customers or users to website...

My two cents.
i have that horrible autocomplete crap turned off

i think most people would try 'pets.com' or 'flowers.com' or something of the sort before bothering with google.

isn't the dotcom boom?  yeah, well, it's not the 80's anymore, either, with everyone on from either .edu, .gov, or .mil (you had fidonet and what not, but I think the first large scale commercial ISP was netcom in 87 or 88).   i still occasionally fall into the habit of assuming that everyone on the internet is a super intelligent being.  sigh.

ofc in the dallas/ft. worth area you could freeload off of the superconducting super collider dialup well into the 90's
2336  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling Negro for BTC on: September 06, 2012, 03:12:15 AM
Negro is a delicious throat lozenge candy sold only in some countries of Central Europe. It is invented by and named after an Italian confectioner, Pietro Negro in the 1920s. The Classic version is black and anis-menthol flavored, but other flavors exist.

I send you 1 bag of Negro candies for 1 BTC. This price includes international postal fees (assuming you live in a UPU member country - which is very likely).

I sell Negro because it isn't produced worldwide, and so it might be difficult to obtain for foreigners. Since it has kind of a special taste, people usually love it or hate it - personally, I like its taste, but many people don't; the rate is like 50%-50%.

is it still possible to purchase negro?

2338  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: September 06, 2012, 02:21:23 AM
piuk,

most blocks 'found' by 5.9.24.81 (*** that aren't tagged) will be from 50BTC, not deepbit.  197450 was received by me from one of their nodes..  so you could just change that to default to 50BTC (they have a bunch of machines on the hetzner network)

i've only originated two, but those are from me mining @ p2pool so they'll automatically be tagged (ed: whoops, make that three.. hohoho)

2339  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: September 05, 2012, 06:39:30 PM
Some orphans now from people with horrible connections.

I know blockchain.info is missing tons of IPs and isn't very accurate, but if you see an orphaned block that was only relayed to a couple nodes, then you know there must have been a good 10-15 seconds in there before it was broadcast.

Why not use a p2pool with a decent connection that'll have a nice up-to-the-second bitcoind?  It wouldn't result in any more rejects or orphans, would it?

Hmm, unless the problem is a bitcoind that doesn't allow incoming connections and only has 8 outgoing (and not to any good nodes)..   time to make use of addnode?  Might I suggest 5.9.24.81?  My max is 1000.
2340  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: September 04, 2012, 07:54:00 AM
Out of curiosity, do any of the server ops here actually get considerable hashrate from this?

I remember back when I ran one for a bit it was a cause of great excitement to see my node running 2Ghash/s  Tongue
i suspect not

i've had one person mine at my pool for like an hr.  there's really no reason to.  you'd set up your own, I guess?
