1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / The altcoin announcement forum, absolutely useless now on: February 03, 2021, 05:06:35 PM
5 or 6 years ago, only about 95% of the coins announced were shitcoins or outright scamcoins.  Now it is impossible to even find something worth investigating.

Is there some forum somewhere that is (a bit) moderated that may filter out some of these obvious shitcoins/scamcoins?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strategies to save off Bitcoin fees? on: February 03, 2021, 12:59:59 AM
Check out the last block & scroll about half way down, & check the fees associated with those transactions.

eg:

https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/00000000000000000009fcb6f9931924f866140e90e819a6421ca5985dec292a

26 minutes after last block, so fees here are likely quite a bit higher than the norm for the day.

Anyway, this block explorer shows 5 transactions per page, so https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/00000000000000000009fcb6f9931924f866140e90e819a6421ca5985dec292a?page=448 is the end.

Halfway through @ https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/00000000000000000009fcb6f9931924f866140e90e819a6421ca5985dec292a?page=224 ;

31.595 sat/WU is fee paid.  So 31.5 should be fine, to send (probably) in the next block in this case, unless it takes 20+ minutes again.  Likely 15-20 is OK, if blocks start coming at typical pace (every 10 minutes), to send in the next block or the one after.

Tons of places overpay bigtime.  But I think a lot of these are businesses doing payouts, so they don't want any delay.

ed: I guess I send most of my stuff at around *10 sat/WU (5 is a bit low).  Eventually you'll get two blocks in quick succession and this tends to clear things out.

ed2:  Like this, block was a minute or so after last -- https://www.blockchain.com/btc/block/0000000000000000000c92a3c065037ec24a15fcbe877dd6b89e4f5e43ea9723?page=380 .... 8 sat/WU.  Tons of these, actually.  Must be some wallet that sets this as some default minimum, possibly.
4  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I am being mercilessly scammed by somone from the bitcoin world on: January 27, 2021, 07:15:01 AM
How can you be "mercilessly scammed" by someone,if you didn't send him any crypto coins or money?
You are not scammed, you are just spammed.Your thread title is misleading,so you should change it.
I keep receiving such spam messages, but on Discord, not via email.
I wonder how the spammers got your email address.Did you submit your email on some shady crypto website or platform?
Simply mark those emails as SPAM and ignore them.I don't see a reason why you should create a topic on the forum and start whining about such small problem.
Spammers getting your email address doesn't require using your email on a 'shady crypto website or platform'.

Yahoo alone has given up more than half a billion.

For bitcoin specific emails, if you polled a majority of bitcoin users, they'd probably tell you in 2011 that MtGox was the most reputable exchange. Someone managed to yoink the email list & then it was distributed to the public.

Despite that, in 2013 & early 2014 it handled 60-70% of exchange activity. It also did some fancy price manipulation ... or maybe that's "alleged", unsure if it was ever proven.  I believe its user list was also compromised again in 2014.  Not positive on that, though.  Didn't use it anymore.

re; "I don't see a reason why you should create a topic on the forum and start whining about such small problem." ...   yah, I agree w/ you there.
5  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I am being mercilessly scammed by somone from the bitcoin world on: January 27, 2021, 06:45:13 AM
haha, I still get a lot of emails from the mtgox account/pw/email hack & public leak.
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Up and Down how on: January 27, 2021, 06:39:40 AM
It goes up a lot when it gets a ton of press, because saturation level (knowledge of existence) amongst the 'average' investor is still low.  Additionally, the number of people rubbishing it as a joke continues to drop.

Random people invest in it, w/o regard to the price, since they see a nice chart and don't want to miss out.  This has happened.... at least three times in the past, maybe four.  One of the other massive runs was when MtGox was manipulating the price.

I sold half of mine at $36,500.  I was thinking I'd be able to rebuy at ~$18,500 level, ~$22,500 level, or around the 50 day MA when I sold (at the time it was ~$24,500).

It appears that someone wants to keep it above $30,500'ish, which is actually close to the 50 day moving average now (think it's around $29,500).  There was that 'flash crash' down to $29,000, but it immediately went back up.  If it holds the $30,500 - $31,000 for another week or two, I may cave and re-buy at this $31,000 or so.  Probably not, though.  I still think the price is massively inflated.

But I guess with virtually every govt going massively into debt and the Federal Reserve printing untold amounts of "funny money" to keep the US stock market from crashing, who knows.

I'm unsure why we aren't already seeing massive inflation in the US.  Probably the low cost of energy has cancelled out a lot of it.  This low cost of gas and such shouldn't last too much longer w/ Beijing Biden.  China needs to sell some solar panels.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Joe Biden's Picks for SEC, Treasury Will Impact Crypto on: January 27, 2021, 06:27:00 AM
I believe biden's adminstration will be friendly to Cryptocurrency especially on top coins like BTC, ETH, XRP after a big news from SEC before few months XRP faced a big blow and I hope the results will go on public favour as loads of money has been invested in XRP, and I guess they won't disappoint anyone.

And yes regulations will surely be there in upcoming days because they wanted to secure dollar Wink

If by "friendly" you mean scare people off the USD w/ massive inflationary pressure, then I agree with ya.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Truth About Bitcoin's Green New Deal. on: August 31, 2020, 03:37:17 PM
When is someone going to build a nuclear power plant to power those ASICs in China?  Get to it!

Someone mark this words...

I would bet in the future the humans will have miners farm with their own electricity generators. Some farms powered by rivers and dams, and some others will have nuclear plants for enormous farms. And isn't a crazy idea at all, I mean the energy bill of a mining farm is really high.

And about the article... mining is done by miners and if someone gets a cloud mining service that means the miner is running somewhere in the world, and it's consuming energy any way...
I guess in the US if "Green New Deal" passes, we will have to mine via the power of human energies.

Everyone will be dirt poor, so people will be working in bike sweat shops, earning several dozen corn kernels per hour, or half a dozen pinto beans.  Maybe a potato  for a full day,   you must remember to eat the weevils.

10  Economy / Speculation / Re: History shows Bitcoin price may take 3-12 months to finally break $20K on: August 31, 2020, 02:30:25 PM
3-12 months to finally break $20k?  OK, Nostradamus.  I hope you just spent your entire life savings buying at $11500.

.... or is this just all based on USD inflation?  I guess if you aren't investing USD, you may want to pass then.

The supply of funny money is high and anyone under 30 doesn't seem to understand basic economics.

On second thought, I rather like your prediction. It is vry astute.

That said, I think I'll seek a dowry consisting of many cattle and goats for my daughter and spend my own available funds on guns and ammunition (maybe second hand on eBay for that ammo, damn).
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying the dips: do you have a specific criteria? on: June 21, 2020, 12:51:02 PM
Apologies if this comes up a lot (as I'm sure it does) but when / how often do you feel is best to buy the dip?

I know its not an exact science but I've heard a few different preferences on this such as:

- When the price decreases x% on the weekly/monthly candle
- When the price moves below the weekly/monthly negative average
- Only a couple of times a year after a major correction
- Just look at the chart and go on your experience / gut

I buy when keyvendor is selling TF2 keys for 1.65 or less.   Grin

But I guess a reasonable entry point (at a price you may see in the next few months) would be around $8400 USD (give or take $100-$200).

Probably won't see that $4100 USD value again any time soon.

(& if investing long term, hell, the $9000 is fine? why make yourself wait longer for capital gains rate, at least in the US?  it's much less taxes then.  well, i'd think.  otherwise you shouldn't be putting money in bitcoins .. I bought the juicy VDE ETF @ $40 .. it is good dividend yield and entering a semi-decent price again.  i'd probably buy this over bitcoin.  price of energy will go back up.  unless we enter nasty depression.  then you'd be screwed either way.  most people would tell you to buy gold.  i'd say to  buy lots of guns, and resell them for more later .. or perhaps some nice arable real estate out in the country, away from cities that dont have police departments.  Roll Eyes)
12  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will Bitcoin increase? on: May 21, 2020, 09:17:01 PM
Price of bitcoin has been increasing since ... I guess we could say May 22, 2010? I wasn't around until 2011 and don't know of any real transaction prior to what is reported.

If you bought some on March 8th at $4100-$4500, you're up 2x in 2 1/2 months.

Current price is higher than it has been in all but ~5-6 months of existence.

I guess if you want to get into the technicals, there should be significant resistance at ~$10400 USD.  It also has that nice round number at $10k as a psychological barrier.

Halving has never particularly coincided with price going up (immediately before or directly after).  Why?  Because people know that this halving is going to occur well in advance.

ed: I think many times it causes price to go down, as people get concerned about the fee rate temporarily skyrocketing & occasional extreme wait times if they set fee too low.  If people mining aren't making enough profit, difficulty will go down again in (over) 14 days.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isnt a problem if China has 68% of the hashrate? on: May 19, 2020, 06:03:12 AM
you shouldn't worry too much about what may or may not happen a 140 years from now since that is one and a half generation away from today! not to mention that with the way bitcoin is going, so far despite the huge decrease in the amount of block reward (from 50 down to 6.25) both hashrate and difficulty have grown to ridiculously higher values while miners are making millions of percentages more money compared to when the reward was 50!
This is solely happening because of the increase of bitcoin price right?
And what you stated is the increase from the past to the present but it still won't change the profitability of mining bitcoin and the fact that some miners have stopped mining because they can't get decent profit anymore.

Anyway, it's just a curiosity, and getting a satisfying answer will definitely stop me from asking the same question again. I won't make it until 140 years later for sure.

Difficulty will decrease if people quit mining.  This will then make it more profitable for those that are still mining, or start back up.  At least until the next difficulty change ...

Energy costs less now.

ed: Ah, I should have said electricity.  Too much crowing about my VDE and the 10% dividend yield @ $33 purchase price.  Anyway, since difficulty adjustment is in 20 hours it is probable that difficulty won't fall as much as it should as this will be some 50-50 split of 12.5 and 6.25 blocks ... then what?  Slower blocks, with transaction fees going up quite a bit, which in theory should compensate for some of this loss.

This may well be Triggering, causing ppl to rage sell their bitcoin & drop the price. That could drop off more miners, making the blocks even slower, and increasing fees even more. Ponder it under the tree of woe, just as I have pondered the delay of the release of the New New Warriors, featuring Trailblazer, Safespace, Snowflake, some emo vampire sir, and Screentime (poor fella was exposed to way too much experimental internet gas as a kid).

No. Chinese government does not control the pools. Pools are not that coordinated and if there war a slightly chance that this could happen, miners would just move to another pools.
It does unless they're operating illegally.  I suppose in this case, it gives the CCP a good reason to just 'requisition' the pool.

China has had over 50% of hashing power from about one or two years after the introduction of ASICs.
15  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Buying CSGO Skins on: October 12, 2019, 02:26:57 PM
You can buy keys off of keyvendor.com, for ~69% US price (71% for EUR price, which is equiv to 2.43 USD). Even greater savings if you are in state with income tax (they cost me $2.71 each), since Valve charges US sales tax.  They like to subsidize EU country, like Sweden and 25% VAT.

They are $1.72/ea there.

Why not just use this?
16  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptopia turning into a scam? on: May 18, 2018, 08:05:27 AM
I guess it'd depend on your definition of 'scam'.

I'd be shocked if they aren't getting some kickbacks from adding all these shitcoins.  There is a disturbing amount of them now on Cryptopia.

Yet other "legit" stuff is strangely absent -- like the WAX tokens that Opskins has been pushing for 1/2 a year.

other stuff -- the support has always been slow, but i've never had issues with withdrawal and deposit.  sometimes it takes longer than it should.  a couple days at most, for me.

the bitcoin fee was adjusted upward for reasons unknown a bit ago, despite bitcoin blocks not being (regularly) full for some time.  the fee could be 50 cents and they'd still profit more than 50% off of t hat.  instead, it's over $4.

some nominal fee of 5 satoshi or something would be nice for sell orders.  maybe cut down a bit on the bots.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCO] Xcoin | PoS | No Premine & No IPO on: May 18, 2018, 01:09:00 AM
We have more than one block explorer being worked on. The old one at blockexperts should also be re enabled. Few other explores we tried are at max capacity. There should be a backup soon. As of right this moment http://138.197.153.79:3001/ is not reporting 100% correctly on the website it's a few days outdated. The XCO wallet in SSH is correct however, we are in contact with cryptopia.co.nz and wallet support and listing teams. We never had issues with XCoin blockchain. Our wallets have never been put in maintenance. Hoping due to this slight issue they might let us fix our explorer. We are still hopeful that we can change there minds.

I have sent email with screen shots showing year long communication with blockexperts still delays to solve issues.
Maybe they can give us little more time. In any case msgs have been sent in discord lastnight and today, mainly to update them on our progress. Our project is not dead our blockchain works fine. Many of our long time supporters have also voiced their concerns withcryptopia.co.nz and the recent delisting notice. We have since applied to be listed on more exchanges.

All is not lost yet. We have come back from serious issues such as this few times before. Most recently year ago when bittrex removed XCO after 3 years of trading. In the end they pulled us off due to lack of volume and to add newer coins the community wants. Since we are community focused and have major goals to make crypto easier and safer and in used for everyday life thus plans for upcoming XCO Security Hard Fork are still underway. Yet we do need a working explorer first before any exchanges will list us.

Lack of volume?   Seems some bit curious to me.  The chart looked like some fairly typical ASICBanditry pump & dumpery, re; 1) have acquired enough coins on said exchange to make it worthwhile, via mining or purchases, 2) mine coin for a bit to raise difficulty to excessive level, 3) begin the pump, knowing that you won't have to deal with some massive influx of sellers (I learned my lesson on this from 'VERSION', laugh), 4) profit.   Not possible with this coin though, is it?  Or are these block explorers wrong, and it's not all proof of stake?

It actually concerned me some bit that Cryptopia delisted this coin, during what seems to have been a pump that was still ongoing.  'Volume' was the reason cited?

My interest in XCO?

From what I was seeing it looked like the pump was going to continue higher (as it apparently did), but I had sold most of what I had earlier at ~200-225, I just dumped the last 20k or so under this big obnoxious sell order at 300 satoshi (it was pretty obvious, if the person behind that is reading this, laugh).

It makes me concerned for some of these other scamcoin/shitcoin/'innovative new coin that I created by changing a few integers' (i should have released my mr. t coin years ago, damnit!) that I have in enough quantity to cause some damage if they were delisted (two examples: wayawolf and flaxscript, and a third that has a pump currently in progress, that being ZSE -- very similar to XCO, this one).

I think Cryptopia probably just isn't telling the full truth here -- don't see how volume could be the reason in the case of XCO.

Oh, is looking better than expected, so I guess today is the day, have some 18-20 hours left for the 24 hr moving avg to remain in the huge positive.

Volume needs to be about 5-10 BTC to start attracting random casuals.  It's sad to see someone is selling out for so little already, this ASK at 48 or 49 satoshi or whatever it is.  I will clear it if it's still there in a few hrs.

Not this 1 bitcoin amount at 200 satoshi, though.  That would take some really great momentum.  Though, gotta say, this coin is actually 'legit', vs. these others I've messed with, bitbean, ooo, ladacoin, ...  Maybe that does help some?  LOL.

ed:  Aborting -- some active seller that is dumb (?) and putting up huge sell amounts on ask side.  I only have this ? because it's possible that it may just be someone accumulating some more before their own pump.  Who knows.  Not gonna spend 0.05 bitcoins to get it to 50 btc volume with someone putting a million at 100.  If the guy is actually trying to profit off the coin, that is one hell of a cockblock.

I guess it's flax script,

Aha.  Finally was able to get a bunch sold to me & grabbed some more earlier today, after having to raildump my 'Elements' on Friday -- some random guy with an ASIC.  Bad news for Elements.

This coin doesn't have quite as good an orderbook as OOO (the wondercoin Om), but coin supply isn't terribly high and there's not a whole lot on Yobit, so seems like a nice, relatively safe bet (ofc if the value of bitcoin plummets, you know how it is  with the sh... altcoins!).

This coin is a bit more flashy than Om (the coin for Christianity) and there are a few updates to the client, but it's mostly just some variable changes and then lifted commits from bitcoin core?  At least the dev seems to be active.  The best news is that it really doesn't matter so much!

After additional thought, it might be best to work on increasing our volume on the current exchanges. SouthXchange or other small exchanges doesn't ensure that we will get any more volume. Even if we get it listed on there, it might just sit there and that would be more negative than positive. Noise plans to update the website within the next few weeks and once that's done, we should launch a marketing campaign on CMC and other popular sources in order to get more volume. That in itself should put this coin on a path to doubling or more within the next few months. There's no way that this coin should be worth less than 10 cents. IMO, we might be able to hit 10 cents by the end of the year, if we can get a more active community and attract new investments.

I've got some errands to run today, so not sure what I'll do on Cryptopia, is a bit of a dilemma.  I sold to myself at 29 satoshi to try to keep the daily avg low, but I guess there's more trading going on now.   It's not best time for me for active pump, but maybe in some hours.  Today may need to be the day, after all.

I had some 50-500% estimate gain for Om, but I think V will max out at some 300%, unless this knob removes the huge sell order at 100 satoshi.   So my prediction for Version?   50-300% gain within the next several days, and then back to 30 satoshi within a month or two.

Viva la revolución!

(ps - keep up the good work with the activity posts)

This coin is cool, like OOO.   I wish I had more & I think someone is trying to pump it a bit too early here, but ...  when 0.10 takes you up 300%, it's pretty good.

That being said, nothing new here ... move along, now
