2341  Economy / Economics / Re: The American Dollar and Bitcoin on: July 18, 2011, 06:25:25 PM
Hi

I think the American Dollar is in a lot of trouble

This Link really explains it..

http://www.stansberryresearch.com/pro/1103PSIEOAVD/PPSIM722/PR

Would a collapse of the USD be of benifit to the BitCoin

I saw the same vid about a month ago. Peter Schiff shortly then exposed this guy as a fraud. He is lying when he says he predicted all that stuff. He was as clueless as the govt. The warnings, while not his are true. But never trust someone who scares you then tells you about a "secret" that is on "special offer". All that usually translates into English 'as snake oil'

Choke on that, Bernanke!  Grin

Prices just keep going up, up, up across the board. But no worries, everyone... after all, inflation is supposed to be good for us!  Roll Eyes

Krugman is now trying to defend his denial about inflation by showing charts of sticky prices... And even the sticky prices are going up. Obviously sticky prices are going up slower than non-sticky prices (no shit sherlock), but even sticky prices are going up.

I dont understand how people can keep reading that clown.

Do you have the link? I have a friend who is a krugman fan. I feel like making fun of a Keynesian right now. Tongue

I think we need a simpler wallet, that doesn't take 30 minutes just to update.

I am thinking of selling USB's with pre-charged wallets.

I was thinking the same thing. Might circumvent the Paypal ban.
2344  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nation States game. on: July 15, 2011, 11:40:00 AM

Has anyone played this? I tried to create an anarcho-capitalist nation. Clearly the game is biased towards some sort of mixed democratic system.

http://www.nationstates.net/nation=libertarctica

I also made the region The Lands of Anarcho Capitalism.

Yeah I play once in a while. Yeah I noticed it was biased as well. Check out my country Libertopium:

http://www.nationstates.net/nation=libertopium

I am yet to change my currency to bitcoin. Govts are so ineffecient, lol. One of my issues going on now:

Quote
Libertopium Decides:
"Give Us Money!" Quoth the Poet

« Back to Issues
The Issue

The National Poetry Society of Libertopium is demanding government-funded programs to promote the arts, especially poetry.
The Debate

   1. "We need government help to promote culture." says Buffy Shiomi, chairperson of the National Poetry Society of Libertopium. "Poetry is the soul of our nation, the very pulse of humanity! We will ultimately be judged according to our contribution to artistic enlightenment. In other words, please provide funding for our humble mission to bring the beauty of poetry to the masses!"

   2. "Artists and poets should support themselves, like everyone else," replies Zeke Thiesen, spokesperson for the Capitalism Now Party. "The suffering taxpayers should be given a break. In fact, we should abolish all government subsidies for special interest groups."

   3. "Poets--who needs them?!" scoffs Chastity Silk, Chairperson Emeritus of the Troglodyte Coalition. "These long-haired troublemakers should all be lined up against the wall and shot! That would be far more entertaining than reading some dumb poems!"
2345  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Violating the U.S. Law on: July 14, 2011, 09:32:34 AM
The forum post: Worlds First Bitcoin Tattoo, is in violation of the law. I have reported at least one image to the admins with no action taken. Apparently your not allowed to cuss on this forum but you can show naked bodies or body parts. Its a strange form of ethics. If you like porn good for you. But keep it off this forum. Porn is a major vector for viruses.

Take action to corrects this problem by requiring people to verifiy their age or remove the offending images or I will be forced to report this site for violations of the law. You have 72 hours to take action. If you want to expose yourself to $50,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail its your choice. It should be noted that the posters might be just as liable as the forum operators.

Child Online Protection Act, 47 U.S.C. § 231
Internet Safety & Child Protecton Act of 2005, S. 1507

Damn. What a d***. You know the pics aren't porn. You must really hate bitcoin isn't it?
2346  Economy / Economics / Re: Ayn Rand quote on: July 14, 2011, 09:27:19 AM
I find some posters' patience with Atlas and willingness to reply with sane arguments to his dipshittery highly commendable. The Bitcoin forums are filled with ridiculous and paranoid arguments, and grand plans about destroying the status quo - this is really setting us back. No sane entrepeneur would take something backed by such a community seriously. We need more posters making sane - not strawman - arguments and standing up for them. Good thing Bitcoin is still in its infancy, hopefully the users will grow up along with it.

Best post I've ever read on this forum.  We can't let this cause get hijacked by a bunch of delusional teenagers.
^^ +1 though I would finish the sentence with "living in mom's basement."

The funny thing is that a "a bunch of delusional teenagers," "living in mom's basement" built Bitcoin. Satoshi Nakamoto himself had "grand plans about destroying the status quo."

Maybe it is YOU who should go somewhere else. You are free to start GovCoin.
2347  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the Fed broke? on: July 11, 2011, 07:11:42 PM
Spain is going to roll over, Greece as well. Euro is currently hitting the bricks at 1.40, dipping to 1.39859. The 'great experiment' of green toilet paper isn't going so well.

All I see is circumstances where interest rates rise, they won't be able to service the interest payments, much less the primary balance of debt - and then we get to see a "Restructuring Event" that robs most government programs and pensions.

Wish I was kidding, but that is the track we're on. (And no, it doesn't matter who is in the hot seat, we're too far along to really give a crap about politics at this point.)

I pretty much agree with this. There is no getting around the inevitable global fiat-fiscal crises, triggered primarily by destruction of the dollar. However, it could *still* take decades. Just because the writing on the wall is obvious and nearly irrefutable doesn't mean it's going to happen tomorrow. There's incredible status-quo inertia with the dollar as the world's reserve, etc. People have been crying fiscal disaster for decades. They're right that it will happen, but we could very well muck along with moderate inflation for decades until we finally get to the straw that breaks the camel's back (which I personally suspect would have something to do with China's GDP getting large enough relative to the US's that they wouldn't care so much about a tanking dollar).

I agree. It is really hard to totally destroy an economy, even if you try really hard. I am from Zimbabwe and I'd been predicting total collapse of our currency since 2001 but it wasn't until 2009 that inflation got so bad that the currency became so unusable that Mugabe begrudgingly allowed dollarization. And this was with him putting in maximum effort to screw the economy. But then again there are so many other factor that no one can really know when the bubble will burst. I just hope it's not anytime soon because I don't have enough gold, silver and btc yet  Cheesy

2352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How your taxes are spent... on: July 09, 2011, 05:46:26 PM
Riddle me this: why should a small group be able to profit at the expense of every other human being?

The sad truth of it is he places his skewed principles above bigger issues due to the fact that he hasn't yet become aware of the significance or depth of those issues. His ignorance is his excuse for refuting that such cascading effects exist within the biosphere that we live in. To him, it's more important that an entity be allowed to follow a human contrived principle than to actually do the math. Furthermore, he doesn't acknowledge that within his system, due to human nature, everything will be destroyed.

He is probably not aware of the scary statistic that one half of all the Earth's post-ice age forests have been destroyed in the last 8,000 years, and that most of that damage has occurred since 1970. Even if he is given time to digest that statistic, his simplistic ideology does not encourage him to dig deeper and try and truly understand the total ramifications of that. Better to remain blind than to be curious. Deforestation depletes atmospheric cycling, decreases biodiversity (which he doesn't understand the significance of), heats ground water, destroys soil sustainability, displaces local economies, creates pollution from burning and excavation, increases edge effects (something he's never thought of), and disrupts local food chains for the surviving sections.

He has never bothered learning about the true debt that is incurred by consuming the limited resources of this planet. In fact, he is likely to construe the above usage of the term resource to mean only the depletion of some resource, such as oil. He is both unable and unwilling to concede that consumption of a resource also destroys other resources in the process of extracting it. He is too obtuse, and generally dense to apply a deeper analysis to the processes, because by doing so, he might realize that the principles he so earnestly stands behind and defends with the same one liner responses over and over in these forums are not adequate or finely nuanced enough.

He does not care to understand fully the dynamics of the system we all live in. His cancerous solution, predicated upon his simplistic ideology, does not require him to study beyond the boundaries of his own limited ideals, because in the short term, all that matters is the ability to efficiently increase his bottom line. Just like a cancer kills the host in pursuit of its own growth, his system will kill the host in pursuit of its own growth. He cries that his system magically self corrects, without acknowledging that cancer self corrects too, because when the host is dead, the cancer is dead as well.

The very existence of his stubbornness and ignorance are a perfect demonstration that his system, although it would contain beneficial entities within it, also would have stubborn and ignorant individuals who cannot place the importance of a deeper understanding of processes that exist outside of the libertarian principles over greed.

Actually the sad truth is that the govt that you have so much faith in has absolutely failed on every point you make.

Why not both? This hard-line shit is just childish. Regulation is required for some things, but where this line is drawn is a matter of debate.

Some rape is alright but where we draw the line is a matter of debate?

Nice

Shutting down coal power plants and instating carbon tariffs doesn't require "shooting people".

And what happens if the owners of the coal plants or those you would like to charge the carbon tariffs to say 'No'?

I wonder if he'll ever answer the question.

I highly doubt it. And am sure he will not acknowledge that govt is the main driver of CO2 emissions because of it's subsidizing fossil fuels and inefficient transport. Or that the single biggest polluting entity in the world is the US Military.

It seemed like an ok article but at the end they just give the finger to bitcoin:

Quote
Mr. Brito was optimistic about Bitcoins finding consistent users. But as with many online innovations, the early adopters tend to occupy a different, if marginal, niche.

“This is a censorship-proof currency that allows transactions to happen,” he said. “Right now what are those sort of transactions? Gambling, buying drugs — that is what is going to jumpstart it.”
  Huh

Mr. Britto is simply stating what he felt will help bitcoin takes off.

Yeah I know but I thats the subliminal message you get from the article especially since it's the very last this they point out.

2358  Economy / Economics / Re: When US debt ceiling is lifted . . . on: June 29, 2011, 07:42:17 PM
- What is gonna happen to those country who stored USD as their GDP ?
Is this gonna make BTC value doubled/tripled because of usd value dive ?
What do you guys think ?

Absolutely nothing will change.  The debt limit is raised every few years with the party in power claiming cats and dogs and assorted ocelots will rain down if it's not lifted, while the party without power claims the other is totally reckless and irresponsible.  A few years later the two parties swap positions and go at it again.  No one is dumb enough on either side of the political divide to risk default over a few political sticking points.

If both political parties suffer from a bout of insanity and refuse to agree on the new debt limit, bitcoin's value will plummet.  It's a pure speculative commodity (not currency) that has no impact upon 99.999% of the world's population.  Ask a villager in India whether they would prefer a bitcoin or gram of gold.  Ask a Chinese businessman the same question.  I bet a Greek factory worker would give the very same answer.

I think you are Absolutely wrong.
This is USA who's gonna lifting debt limits, not zimbabwe.
Perhaps somehow its gonna effecting some factor, maybe "trust" ?

I was unaware that the USA is exempt from the laws of economic because it is "not zimbabwe"

2360  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I have a solution for underpaid workers... on: June 27, 2011, 06:55:04 PM
Let's not let our currencies be traded in denominations under $10.

Don't worry, my friend.  In several years, there will be so much inflation that it wouldn't even be economical for the Fed to waste the cotton and ink to print denominations lower than $10.

<--- I have a load of these that I am not using anymore.
