23501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGox BTC is been selling on: May 23, 2018, 07:50:57 AM
8,214.97744 BTC
This amount of Bitcoin is mined every 4.5 days. Miners sell their coins to pay for hardware and electricity, so these amounts aren't really impressive.
The 24h trading volume is 681,001 Bitcoin, more than 80 times more than this sale.
23502  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: May 23, 2018, 07:42:12 AM
I went to the Bitcoin Discussion board, hoping to find something worth reading, and find plagiarism within a minute.

"MTGox is selling" is just a new kind of FUD, and some people are trying  to manipulate the market with this FUD. They want other people to panic and sell their coins low, so manipulators can buy them and sell later. People shouldn't care about minor news, it's a good way to lose money if you trade by reacting to them, instead people should have a good long term strategy that ignores minor fluctuations. Time has proven that all these hacks, government bans and other stuff doesn't matter in the long run, so people should never panic on this market.
23503  Other / Meta / Re: User's sMerit Network size – Data to select possible Merit Sources on: May 23, 2018, 06:08:34 AM
I always struggle with the formatting of coded tables. I know that a table can be created, but it’s just so cumbersome..
It’s easier to see on one´s data on the general google doc file (you’re on row 219 of the global tab).
If you'd make tables, you'd quickly run into post size limits. I think the easiest solution would be to fill out the right amount of spaces inside the code-tags.
23504  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Pizza Day - Why old members are no longer active here on: May 23, 2018, 05:57:57 AM
But what I am curious about, especially from the old members here; that why the early adopters of Bitcoin and then active members of Bitcointalk have gone inactive now.
Many people left because the forum is overrun by spammers.

Let me take a random look at the latest post on the forum:
looks like interestin project with experienced team
Need some time to make an assesment of your project also

It's already deleted by the bumpbot who posted it, and replaced by the next one.
23505  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism and copy/paste posts on: May 22, 2018, 07:47:05 PM
Not sure why the above two posters, chose this topic to plagiarize! Cheesy Shocked
Incorrect bot settings.
23506  Other / Meta / Re: [Mods: NUKE 140 act] Commercial Spambots post and delete 1000s of posts per day on: May 22, 2018, 12:17:23 PM
So if I understand correctly, these are basically bots and are not posting manually? Right?

Nuking won't help much because you will have to nuke them manually, but understand that they post automatically based on a certain script, so the rate of creation of such accounts can be much easier than nuking of these account.
Creating new accounts requires a captcha, and nuking accounts increases the evil score for the IP addresses used.

It would be ideal if a ban-bot takes care of this, but until then, all I can do is report them.

I am this close to open a make-me-Mod-thread here, so I can have my own ban-button.

Well c'mon, do it. Many people will support your application, including me.
The forum can only benefit from this.
It's not up to vote (it has been tried). I won't open such a thread.
23507  Economy / Reputation / Re: Another way of merit begging on: May 22, 2018, 11:32:12 AM
Both of the users' tables explicitly state to give them Merit if they liked it. This is pure Merit begging. Asking for Merit on forum is not tolerated and so should be the case for off-forum websites like google sheets too.
I wouldn't ask for merit myself (lol), but if someone puts a lot of effort into a post, I don't really mind either. If anything, he may raise awareness of the possibility to donate sMerit.

If it's only in a few posts, it shouldn't be a problem:
Do not beg for merit excessively.
23508  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, why are trust/merit pages not available to guests? on: May 22, 2018, 11:22:13 AM
My suggestion would be to display only red trust (on DT2) to guests, as a warning not to fall for scams.
Some DT members have negative trust. Also, some trustworthy members have one or two negative correlations.[tagging for shitposting, selling accounts,...etc.]
Good point, I forgot about users with both red and green trust. I've edited my post.

Quote
while we're on the subject of making trust changes, may I suggest (again) to show red trust on all boards.
Trust system has been created to reduce scam, showing it outside Marketplace is worthless.
I was thinking about the users who post scams (in their signature or in their posts) on other boards.
23509  Other / Meta / Re: Celebrating my 0 to 100+ merits and demonstrations of impact on: May 22, 2018, 10:53:34 AM
Isn't the whole point of the merit system to award posts that you like?
In my understanding, merit means "worth reading". You don't have to like or even agree to a post, for it to be worth reading.

Update: I totally forgot to say: Congrats!
23510  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit deadline on: May 22, 2018, 10:47:34 AM
But don't you think that giving "alright post" posters more merits will lead them to sending their earned merits to crappy posters?
Maybe. But it's not something I consider when I merit a post.
23511  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi Universal HD Wallet on: May 22, 2018, 10:44:11 AM
You might try to navigate into the application settings and click on 'Clear Cache'. This will removed cached data from this application.
Why didn't I think of that Cheesy
Unfortunately, it didn't solve it.

Quote
Another option would be to restart your phone.
I tried that already, but it didn't work.

Now I'm posting here anyway: Coinomi is using a lot of data, up to more than 800 MB per month for 6 different coins (on Wifi), which is about 40 times more than Mycelium uses.
23512  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi Universal HD Wallet on: May 22, 2018, 09:35:05 AM
Since this morning, the Coinomi app crashes on my phone: "Coinomi stopped", "Close App" (translated back into English, so it may not be exact matches).

The app didn't get updated since the last time it worked. I don't really want risk erasing all data and recover from seed, as that always feels like a risk. Is there anything else I can do/try to get it working again on my phone (other than exporting my private key or exposing my seed to another phone)?
23513  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: May 22, 2018, 09:26:19 AM
Sr. Member awas banned! caught my attention when he posted this:
~, reports the official website).

A quick look into his post history confirms plagiarism without reference. Please end his posting career:

Gexcrypto is a company made especially for people that want to invest in the cryptocurrency market but do not like the current model of trading sites. Many sites do not offer support and are hard to use and, because of this, many potential investors get scared away.

23514  Other / Meta / Re: theymos, why are trust/merit pages not available to guests? on: May 22, 2018, 08:45:22 AM
I do think that they should be available, but new users would find the trust/merit system not very helpful.
My suggestion would be to display only red trust (on DT2) to guests, as a warning not to fall for scams. There's no need to show green trust to guests. As hugeblack pointed out, I forgot users with both red and green trust. Leaving out the green makes them all red, so both green and red should show.
And while we're on the subject of making trust changes, may I suggest (again) to show red trust on all boards.

Quote
They would need to know how these systems function. Hell even 50%,no scratch that,85-90% of the users don't know how the trust system works.
They don't need to understand how it works exactly, all they need to see is a red warning to be extra careful with that user.
23515  Other / Meta / Re: All Internet evil, mapped: evil score visualization 2 on: May 22, 2018, 06:22:44 AM
It might be useful to remove what is likely isolated incidents of “evil”, look for patterns and then apply those types of patterns to IP address blocks that have growing amounts of “evil”.
I can recognize very clear rectangles, especially in the "future use" (top right) area. If evil accounts cover that much of the address area, I'd say color in the whole rectangle.

Pretty high
A ton of evil, more than anyone is likely to pay
Does this mean someone created many accounts from the same IP, then got them all banned?
This was suggested last week to stop this:
Most of the people who sign up here likely won't have to pay anything at all so anyone can create thousands of accounts from their home IP or any other one that hasn't yet been banned.
Isn't this a flaw in the units of evil system?

Quote
I wouldn't be against limiting accounts to one sign-up per IP as people would quickly run out of fresh connections.
As the proud owner of more than one account, I'd have to disagree. Using a few accounts keeps my main account more secure.
But I wouldn't mind if any IP starts collecting units of evil after signing up. Say the first 2 accounts are free, and after that each new signup adds one more unit of evil.

I guess. I think a better solution would be an IP gets evil points every time an account is registered from it. First one is free but then the the points get exponentially greater for every account that is registered. I think people should be allowed to have multiple accounts but there's no reason why people should have hundreds and I think this would curb people who sign up here with dozens of accounts each from each family member on the home IP and making people work to find a new connection would slow them down a lot.
23516  Other / Meta / Re: [paid spamming] Bump Bots post and delete thousands of posts per day NUKE PLEASE on: May 21, 2018, 07:30:46 PM
It won't hurt really nobody except the bumper spammers (and it won't need much coding)
Someone who has a really good reason to delete a post, can ask for it in the Meta (or report itself to a moderator)...
I use the edit button a lot (for legit reasons). Especially when I open a thread by myself, I want to be able to update the first post (and that can be months later).
I'd be okay to disable this feature for the lower ranks. If Copper members are excepted, I'd be okay to disable it for all ranks, and pay for Copper membership. But I don't think taking away functionality from legit users is a solution.
23517  Other / Meta / Re: Staked address question on: May 21, 2018, 06:04:17 PM
I would like to stake my bitcoin address, but what will happen if someone steals my private key? Then, he can steal my bitcointalk account by sending signed message to moderators?
I assume you'll have a backup, so the thief can't take away your access to the private key. That means you can still sign a message by yourself, so you'll have this scenario:
-thief trying to steal your account: signs a message and posts it from a different account
-you: sign a message and post it from your own account

You should be fine.

How can you not keep your private key secure?  Roll Eyes
I accidentally copied the private key to my staked address into Google 2 years ago (don't ask how, but yes, I felt stupid!). It even has some funds at the moment, I don't think Google is going to abuse it.

Update: I just looked at pat25's profile:
Loading Trust...
I doubt anyone would want to steal it.
23518  Other / Meta / Re: User's sMerit Network size – Data to select possible Merit Sources on: May 21, 2018, 05:42:48 PM
Jet Cash is a very good candidate, with an extensive network (198 at the time of data analysis) and a very evenly spread of sMerit per Tx (1,07, with 0,36 std. dev.). LoyceV I think has just been appointed as a Merit Source with very similar data to Jet Cash.
I only saw your thread today, but I closed my Merit source application thread just after you opened it. Coincidence or not, thanks for the endorsement.

I only have one comment to this thread: if you use the sMerit Network size as a measure to determine who would make a good Merit source, your system strongly favours high ranked users who started out with a lot of free sMerit. Someone who started with with 200 sMerit can much easier merit 100+ different users than someone who started with 50 sMerit. That makes sMeritSent divided by nSentTo an indicator for lower ranked users. A lower number would be better in this context.
23519  Other / Meta / Re: [paid spamming] Bump Bots post and delete 1000s of posts per day NUKE 140 PLEASE on: May 21, 2018, 05:14:57 PM
Bump for moderator attention Cheesy

The bumpdeletespam still continuous, and will probably keep going as long as they earn from doing so. I'd like to see all involved accounts banned, but I'll need someone with the nuke power to help me.
23520  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit deadline on: May 21, 2018, 05:07:58 PM
It'll also lead to alright posts being merited and that's not what we're after
I think it's okay to merit "alright posts". If an "alright poster" ranks up, that's a good thing. I don't think Merit is meant to reject people who are "alright", it's meant to reject people with bad posts.
I'm not saying an "alright" post should get as many Merits as an excellent post, but some encouragement doesn't hurt either.
