communicated with users via email — but never by phone or in person. Then, in 2011, .. the emails stopped.

not only emails but MULTIPLE forums...

.. i guess the research must be really really lacking in the article
23582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is no one uses bitcoin.com on: May 17, 2015, 09:03:52 AM
it was originally bought simply to preserve the bitcoin community and to stop scammers buying up the name and placing fake information on it or trying to extort the community.

imagine if the bank of england/bank of america bought it instead of a bitcoin community member.. imagine the propaganda the banks would write on the website to talk people out of investing in bitcoin. highlighting things like volatility and darkweb usage, etc.

im glad the majority of main bitcoin branding is in the hands of the community members

gleb:

you are going to find 9000 businesses linked to "340 lemon".. try a different path to your research, otherwise you'll just get into a pickle trying to convice people that satoshi is also someone:
who made a dog toilet (patch of grass on a pallet which can be placed inside peoples apartments, so they dont have to take animals outside)
who sells scarf's
who is involved in real estate
who is involved in corporate acquisition

also 657 social security cheats use that address to get their social security mail delivered there

as i said its a virtual mailbox address
23584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Purchasing Bullion with bitcoin on: May 17, 2015, 08:21:09 AM
translation of OP:
"i want to get rid of my silver supply to have a hoard of bitcoins instead"

if silver was so valuable, why would you want to replace it with bitcoin?

if however your not a silver owner and are instead a silver retailer, that will purchase silver elsewhere to then offer it out for bitcoin.. then im afraid that smart investors wont want to swap bitcoin for silver, especially at a retailers excessive spot price compared to other methods of obtaining silver which we can do.
23585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Extremists Target Bank of China on: May 17, 2015, 08:07:55 AM
The banks are becoming VERY desperate if they hire shitty Shills like that.  Wink

The story branded them bitcoin extremists to get attention. It would have gone unnoticed if it said hackers DDOSed a bank and demanded payment in bitcoins. It has an attention grabbing headline to entice people into reading a boring story.

i guess you never bothered reading the actual article from the 'hong kong standard' and just read the crap in the OP and altcoin post....... read the actual news article again as there is no mention of "bitcoin extremists" and then you will see that it is actually the OP that is causing more negative propaganda then the hong kong news..

now lets spoon feed you with the truth:

Quote
Hackers believed to be from overseas have threatened to launch fresh cyber attacks on Bank of China and Bank of East Asia unless they pay them not in cash, but with virtual currency bitcoin.

Police confirmed yesterday that they received reports on Monday from two financial institutions, claiming their websites were hacked on Saturday, leading to unstable service.

"The two institutions later received e-mails demanding payments in bitcoins, or there would be another round of attacks," a spokesman said.

The case has been classified as blackmail and will be investigated by the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau. Preliminary investigation suggests the attacks were launched from multiple countries.

Bank of China said its website was affected by a distributed denial of service attack on Saturday, but stressed its customer service had not been affected. Bank of East Asia said it found out it had been hit by a DDoS attack after noticing an abnormal increase in internet traffic.

The bank said there are contingency measures in place to deal with such attacks and denied that any of its data or customer accounts had been affected.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority asked the banks to submit reports.

Police last year received 29 cases relating to DDoS attacks. Most were targeted at the government, public institutions and media websites.

i see no mention of bitcoin extremists... !!!
23586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in the Headlines: The Chicken and Egg Debate on: May 16, 2015, 09:35:42 PM
It's not really a chicken and egg debate, what came first doesn't matter one bit.

A better analogy would be "the motorcar and petrol"  - One can't fulfill its potential without the other.

It's not really a "motorcar and petrol" debate, since many modern cars can run without gasoline.  Cheesy
Why did the Bitcoin cross the road....?

well. maybe it is a motorcar and petrol debate.. bitcoin being the diesel.. litecoin being unleaded petrol and banks want to make the hyro-electric....
23587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin in a Bricks and Mortar Shop on: May 16, 2015, 06:13:22 PM
Hi,

I run a retail shop in the UK and I am considering accepting Bitcoin.

I don't really understand how to do it.

I know I can create a QR code but do I need a QR code for each item I sell?

So, the customer comes in and wants 3 things, how do I do it?

Sorry if this makes little sense.

think of a bitcoin public address QR code as a bank account number..
when people want to buy things they add everything to their basket/trolley. and then at checkout/cash register you total the cost and convert it to a bitcoin amount.
you then display the QR code to the customer and let them pay. you then monitor the address to see when a payment arrives.

you can if you want have a individual QR code per product, per total customer bill, per day. or anything.. but to get started just have one QR code that you monitor until you get used to it and expand into it more. as holding handfuls of addresses can be confusing at first

I don't get how Google showing me personalized results automatically means they're evil. Also, I have used DuckDuckGo and it never gives me useful results.

lets say you searched for diamond rings.. 2 months later you get a phone call from a scammer who has bought your search data to find out people with above average income to afford such things

lets say you searched for bitcoin. .. 2 months later you got a email from a scammer that bought your data to find people that may own bitcoin. the email contains a trojan

lets say you searched for a medical condition you might have.. 2 months later your medical insurance provider cancels your insurance unless you pay a higher premium because they believe you have a medical condition you did not disclose..

the point is:
personalized results within your own browser is not evil.. but what they do with your data behind your back, without you knowing is...
23589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in the Headlines: The Chicken and Egg Debate on: May 16, 2015, 05:56:03 AM
bitcoins are not database entries.. they are not stored value.. they are simply list of transactions..

what i mean by this is there is not database that says fred owns 26btc, dierdre owns 24btc.. what bitcoin is, is simply a list of transactions of movements. thus the blockchain (chain of blocks of transactions) IS bitcoin

the blockchain is the secured ledger. there is no bitcoin without it
23590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 16, 2015, 05:22:09 AM
so it seems my theory that its just a dead drop site for mail, was correct.  340 lemon is the address of the company called "virtualpostmail" who act as a mail forwarding service
23591  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: What is the likelihood that bitcoins purchased are confiscated? on: May 16, 2015, 05:00:11 AM
In the U.S., the government has the authority to confiscate property used in a crime, but they don't have the ability to confiscate bitcoins unless they have the private keys.

yet they forced the silk road owners to hand over privkeys..

i think the secret is that if you publicly disclosed a known publickey.. then simply create new addresses and move the funds.. if anyone asks you can simply say you sold them on or gave them away to charity and the new addresses the funds can be seen going to dont belong to you.... after all unless you disclose your link to the public key no one knows who owns what.
23592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I googled: "The Times 0(...)" and it completed the sentence... on: May 16, 2015, 03:49:51 AM
as for duckduckgo.. "the times 03" does not reference bitcoin. it references a british newspaper.

as for using duckduckgo. using the term "bit"
i got things like bittorrant, bitdefender, bitter lemon

as for using duckduckgo. using the term "bitc"
i got bitches, bitch slap, bitcommet

so i fail to see that bitcoin is topping any international standard searches.. and just topping your personal searches based on personal tendencies.
23593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 16, 2015, 03:39:33 AM
How is that an address associated with Satoshi(?) via Vaurum also be associated with CounterParty, GAW, among other Bitcoin-themed entities?

if you look hard enough you will find links to everything.. (6th degree of separation philosophy)
keep looking you might find a link between satoshi and brock pierce..
via some coin protocols, bitcoin foundation and vaurum......

.. all it means is that in a pool of not very many people, you will always find familiar connections.

my previous posts were to highlight that the real satoshi never shouted out that he was british, thus not making it a direct ploy to confuse people. but from the manner in which he posted messages on forums, gits and emails he is definetly british.

yet the only thing that links nick and satoshi. is that they are both interested in an alternative currency (just like hal finney, brock, gavin, andreas, sirrius and millions of others) and the fact that he used a few common words.... which thousands of people say..

thus there is just as much evidence that your best friend Cheesy brock pierce could be satoshi
thus there is just as much evidence that Hal finney could be satoshi
thus there is just as much evidence that theymos could be satoshi
thus there is just as much evidence that sirrius could be satoshi
23594  Economy / Speculation / Re: How Did bitcoin remained at 200 USD on: May 16, 2015, 01:51:55 AM
I was just wondering because if mtgox was responsible for making the fake increase of the price of bitcoin, then how come it remained at $200 and why it did not fell down to $10 like before?

mtgox was not responsible for much of the increases.. that was the hype from chinese exchanges that people then sheep followed on US exchanges. but when mtgox finally tumbled and closed its doors(withdrawals), alot of people stopped sheep following mtgox as the funds could not be transfered out and so they realized it had no impact any longer on real trades.

and that is why mtgox sunk to $100 while at the time(winter time 2013-14,), the other exchanges remained at $500ish

.. and all i have to say to that is thank god there were more intelligent investors, rather than MTGOX devoted sheeple.
23595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 16, 2015, 12:49:13 AM
the overwhelming evidence that satoshi is british ( british spellings and grammer, plus british newspaper reference in genesis) always gets ignored when they try to convince people that satoshi is american.....
23596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 15, 2015, 11:39:47 PM
If the relevant authorities did find the creator of bitcoin could they make him / her or them destroy bitcoin?

I don't know enough about the technical side but was wondering if it could all come to an end if the people in the know were made to do so?

the bitcoin code exists on thousands of users computers. there is no central location..
in short there is no 'off switch' unless authorities could systematically find every single bitcoin-core user and destroy the bitcoin code on everyones computer..

if the government had any monetary destruction agenda.. they would find it far easier to destroy FIAT banks.. to wipe off the trillion dollar world debt

Any person can invent a security system so clever that he or she can't imagine a way of breaking it.

the question was can authorities make satoshi kill bitcoin.... answer is still no.
the authorities themselves could as i explained systematically weed out all users of bitcoin-core.. or as you point out nuke the entire internet.. but in both cases, satoshi needs no part of it, thus no need to find him
23597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York Times identifies Nick Szabo as Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 15, 2015, 11:36:57 PM
if the media actually bothered to spend any time properly researching they would find that nick szabo, hal finney and a few others all contributed to bitcoin.

lets use a cake analogy..
satoshi is the cake maker
nick the egg farmer
hal finney the flour mill owner
other people provided the vanilla and chocolate flavouring..

satoshi then mixed the ingrediants together and baked the cake..

and now gavin and the other devs are adding the icing and candles..

so yea nick had something to do with it.. but he didnt put all the ingredients together...

... all im waiting for is the entertainment to begin where the world goes nuts like they did during the dorian saga.. followed or previous to a tsunami of scammers making fake nickszabo accounts and saying they will do interviews if they get prepaid large amounts of money.

either way people will realise the main creator is not that important.. after all do any of you know the name of the first person who created a bank note.. (without googling it)
23598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cost Averaging? on: May 15, 2015, 11:21:37 PM
At this point the price of bitcoin is really too volatile for it to be any meaningful kind of investment, at least one that one would rely on.

Bitcoin is still very far from certain from being viable over the long run and buying bitcoin with the intention of holding it in the long run is speculative at best
the high school lessons of investment are steady small movements. the adult and profitable investments are in volitile markets. the best scare tactic to keep naive people away from taking your profits is to convince them that the most profitable markets are bad investments, giving you free reign to scoop more profits without competition.

day trading is an investment strategy. hoarding for long term will be profitable, but not as much as day trading to increase your haul.

Holding has proven to be pretty much dead by now. Not an issue, since that way the coins get distributed further.
What itches me is the lack of private enthusiams to mine coins at home. That was the stuff that made Bitcoin great, once ago.

using a pickaxe to get gold was what gave many migrants to america enthusiasm.. now things moved on and only the rich with large equipment invested in mining are the ones still enthusiastic.. same goes for any precious resource or rare items.. like bitcoin.

just like the golden age, people moved away from mining for gold and instead set up goods and services to swap for gold. basically to get gold without large investment or sweat.. and thats what stage we are entering into now in the bitcoin ecosystem.. retail and services is where people should be concentrating on to get their hands on bitcoin without investing in mining farms.

if people in the basements could mine 50 bitcoins a day, the value of bitcoin would only be $1.. im glad the average miner can only scoop up decimal amounts a day, as thats what is helping to keep the prices in the hundreds.

if people search for bitcoins on google for the last 4 years then it makes sense that the results would prioritize content based on favourite topics.

for instance i have been playing GTA 5 alot (its great stress reliever). and when i type in:
meteor
observatory
UFO
guns
cars

it doesnt show any random results about astronomy, science fiction, hunting or murders, or car sales websites. but instead shows the top links as GTA based sites... even if i never type in the words GTA search term.

thus i tried "The Times 0" and got:

(on a web browser with cleared cache and deleted history, that i dont use for my bitcoin activity)
