Introducing Bitcoin Forum NFTs
Immortalize your forum profile on the Bitcoin blockchain! Nope, this is not an April Fool's joke.
A Bitcoin Forum NFT is a Bitcoin-based NFT (non-fungible token) created using Counterparty, an 8+ year-old protocol for tokenization on the BTC blockchain. These are one-of-a-kind collectibles that can be stored in any self-custodied BTC address and used to commemorate your participation on the Bitcoin Forum. You can trade them for other forum tokens using the Counterparty DEX, show them off IRL using the token.art app, sell them for BTC using the Dispenser feature, or even wrap them via Emblem Vault to put it up for sale on OpenSea!
How are they made?
Bitcoin Forum NFTs are created as Counterparty subassets, meaning they all begin with the name "BITCOINFORUM" and end with the Bitcointalk user name. For example, my NFT is named "BITCOINFORUM.nutildah". It can be seen and its information verified using xchain - a Counterparty-enabled block explorer - under the following entry:
https://xchain.io/asset/BITCOINFORUM.nutildah
The methodology for asset creation is as follows:
1. Custom field information is collected from purchaser (PGP short ID & quote, both are optional). 2. JSON file is created using the purchaser's forum profile information and uploaded to Arweave (example file here). 3. Token is minted in Counterparty using link to JSON file as reference data. 4. Token supply is locked with a purchaser-specified quantity of 1-100. 5. Token data ownership (a Counterparty-specific property) is transferred to burn address, making it immutable. 6. Token is transferred to purchaser's provided BTC address.
What blockchain does the NFT use?
BTC. This is the Bitcoin Forum, so naturally these NFTs should be minted on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Why use Arweave to host the JSON?
Kind of like IPFS, Arweave is a decentralized way to store files for the long-term. Files stored on its network can always be accessed via permanent URLs. They are also immutable: once uploaded, they cannot be changed.
As creator of the NFT, can't you still change its image or data after it has been purchased and sent?
No. Transferring token data ownership to a burn address ensures that nobody can change the data embedded in the token. However, you can change the image displayed in the xchain description for your token by simply changing your profile image on the forum. This is because the token points to your forum avatar to draw image information from. (Member rank info is permanent, however, and will not update when your rank changes. Same goes for the custom message & PGP info).
How do I access or move the NFT?
The best way to do this is to provide an address created using a Counterparty-enabled wallet. We recommend either Counterwallet (web wallet) or Freewallet (desktop wallet). Both are highly-secure BTC wallets currently used to hold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of BTC and Counterparty tokens. Bitcoin Forum NFTs are stored just like any other Counterparty token (in a BTC address), and are transferred just like any Bitcoin transaction (from BTC address to BTC address, paying the usual tx fee).
Will you be minting NFTs of non-active or non-participating profiles?
No. Bitcoin Forum NFTs will only be minted for willing participants who have paid in advance.
How much do they cost?
- The first respondent to this thread will get theirs free as a Proof of Concept. - The next 3 respondents will get theirs at a special price of $25 (payable in BTC, LTC, or DOGE). - The price for additional respondents will be $40, except for accounts registered before Dec. 31, 2015, in which case the price will remain $25.
How do we place an order?
Please post your request here or send it to me via PM using the following format:PGP field text (PGP Fingerprint, Long Key or Short Key ID) (optional): Custom Category text (optional, up to 52 characters): Quantity of tokens desired (1-100): Preferred payment method (BTC, LTC, or DOGE): Delivery address (Counterparty or self-custody BTC): You will then be contact with an amount & address for payment.
Note that if you are not using a Counterparty address, you must possess the private key of your BTC address in order to move your NFT!
Also, you can only request an NFT of your own profile.
This method uses standards adopted by modern Bitcoin NFT projects and is the result of thinking about how best to do it pretty hard. If you have any questions not covered by the answers here, please feel free to ask!
Thanks.
Proof of Counterparty wallet and PGP ownership can be found here.

Bored Ape Yacht Club gets flipped by CryptoPunks:An exciting development in the world of Historical NFTs. Even though I own neither, its worthy of a mention. https://decrypt.co/107911/cryptopunk-ethereum-nfts-floor-price-flips-bored-apes-for-first-time-in-5-monthsOn Aug. 19, the average price and floor price of CryptoPunks, recognized as the first truly popular 10k PFP NFT collection (2017), briefly overtook the same metrics from Bored Ape Yacht Club (2021), representing a shift in market appreciation from projects with social media-driven clout to those with historical provenance.

Saylor Jerkers, I have no clue who's (or what) this is, so if your not on the list or its incorrect let me know.
I LOL'd Taco Corpse... also a strong name. (has anybody here not seen The League?)

Very cool to see Nili Lerner of NILIcoins getting some exposure for her 2014 Counterparty tokens... This was assuredly one of the first uses of token technology for artistic purposes. https://twitter.com/hnftfest/status/1560990040993345537https://twitter.com/NILIcoins/status/1444722573359599617Counterparty is currently the most alive its ever been, enjoying a "Historical NFT"-fueled renaissance. A shame this thread - which was the focal part of its community for years - is now so dead... This effect carries over forum-wide. If you made old tokens back in the day and still have access to your Counterwallet, I'd like to see what you have as I may be interested in buying them. Feel free to send me a PM.

Yes mate, absolutely. If you posted a NEM address early on and can sign a message from it, I will do my best to help you recover your account. -------------------- Clearly there has been some evolving in this site and it is seen by requiring more (talents) from the users: "sign messages", combine consecutive posts to one, which may require more work when someone is answering to more than 1 post Yes and no. Some of us are older and wiser, but we are vastly outnumbered by sig-spamming shitposters. (pay no attention to my own sig, lol)

... Everyone's mouth is full of adaptation and they wonder why some people or governments are against Bitcoin, and at the same time, with their interpretation of Bitcoin, they are killing its essence...
I agree with your larger interpretation. I just merited that guy because he didn't have any merits. Bitcoin was born to be used.

You believe that Musk is the enlightened one, when it comes to bitcoin allocation strategies?
No, in wealth acquisition & management strategies. What you are talking about is but a sliver of a subset of that. And Microstrategy is underwater in their BTC investment. So what is Saylor actually good at besides being a cheerleader on social media?

From a gambler's perspective, there's a lot of roads you could take. Solana and Tezos NFTs are taking off (not that I would ever touch those). From an investor's perspective, I would go with Historical NFTs, which include early NFTs on Ethereum from 2015-2018 and "pre-NFT" tokens on other blockchains. A few examples include: - Rare Pepes or Spells of Genesis cards on Bitcoin - Early Namecoin identities (although those expire and you need to re-register them periodically) - Early Dogeparty assets from 2014 (on Dogecoin) Basically, "new" NFTs (2020 and after) are a real crapshoot as they require social momentum to keep their prices up. Most NFT makers start a project, squeeze as much capital as they can from it, and then move on to the next one. With historical NFTs this can't really happen as they are already out of the hands of the creators and their value is maintained by simply being old (and they're only getting older).

Bitcoin could go up. In which case it might go up more.
Or it could go down. In which case it might go down more.
Or it could go sideways.

I'm just curious to know how often people on the forum make BTC transactions.

Thread is dead AF, Fred... Anyway, DOGE is having a nice lil run, spiked all the way up to 8.75 cents before coming back down to the low 8's. Some are attributing the pump to a recently-launched project called DogeChain, which I'd just like to point out, is in no way associated or endorsed by Dogecoin or its devs. DogeChain is a Polygon clone that uses DOGE for gas, and so far its been nothing but a complete shit token casino. But you don't have to take my word for it. Here's some quotes from Dogecoin devs and foundation members about it:
