2361  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Genesis Coins SERIES 2/ what coin do you want to see? on: August 14, 2015, 03:23:59 PM
On a similar note, .999 fine silver coins are nice (and expensive), but look at how many .999 fine silver coins are still being sold which were minted two+ years ago. It's hard to sell all the stock. Sure, some of us are willing to pay $50-100 for a single collectible coin, but most people can't swing that much cash on a whim. Personally, I believe the current $15, non-silver Genesis Coins fit a niche and are (forgive the bad pun) right on the money. Grin

Unless you make a run of 1,000 silver coins, this isn't really true. I sold out of my only silver coin in a couple of weeks and my next design will be minted in silver first.

Have you thought about a Bitcoin Penny Limited Ed. Silver version?   Cool

To go off topic bit... Absolutely! But the price would be sky high. My coins are specialty size, not the cookie-cutter 39mm. Pure silver in my size would cost a fortune.  However, I've toyed with the idea of minting a very few extra large, 39mm Bitcoin Penny™ commemorative coins. Who knows what my future holds... Wink

Most mints offer a 27mm 0.25oz .999 silver round, which would be slightly larger than your penny (~23mm?) and the prices are not astronomical. You also don't have to incur all of the other costs (e.g. a custom sized hologram).

I agree with both of your statements. Smiley

As much as I share both your sentiments from a technological standpoint, we're talking about a piece of metal with a sticker on it.   Wink

Simply put, I do know what I want (regardless of artistic design/shape - I trust wheelz would come up with something satisfactory) and maybe I didn't phrase it correctly above.  I would prefer my collectible coin/piece of metal to be made of a precious metal rather than a base metal.

I didn't dislike the distribution model but was off-put at the amount of alts that were not favorable.  I thought it was a really successful run for wheelz and I wanted to give my input that I would like Bitcoin and Silver.

oh, I agree. I'd love some .999 fine silver Genesis Coins too. I'm not saying that I (and most people) don't want them; I'm simply saying that I'm satisfied with the current non-silver Genesis Coins too.

Im sticking to the packs for series 2 and was thinking of throwing silver in the mix.   Only issue with that is with my distribution method it would kind of suck if you pay more per pack and dont land one.  So I figure its all silver or not you know.

Personally, I don't think .999 fine silver Genesis Coins are necessary. Stick with the less expensive ~$15 / pack formula. It works.

EDIT: On the other hand, I wouldn't knock a fine silver Genesis Coin. I'd add one to my little collection. Wink

I'll echo the bitcoin sentiments, I was put off from purchasing more since I couldn't justify spending more than I would for one coin to try and get "that coin".

I also agree on the silver/gold aspect as I wasn't even aware that mine were gold plated until I read that numbers 1-10 were always gold plated.   Smiley

I'd like to see a small batch of pure silver Genesis Bitcoin coins (or gilded) for users who know what they want and are willing to pay for it.  I would be interested for a price of ~$65-80 for a 1oz silver Genesis coin.  Not sure if it's doable but figured I'd throw it out there.   Wink

....might have to go back to the drawing board here.

I'll have to respectfully disagree (partially) with the majority.

I can appreciate the altcoins angle. In fact, my overwhelming happiness at discovering a BITCOIN in the pack is only due to the fact that it's a rare coin in a sea of altcoins. If there were nothing but BITCOINs in the packs, I'd order one, open it, nod my head unenthusiastically (yep, it's what I ordered), then toss it in a dark drawer somewhere. But it's the rarity of finding that gem of a BITCOIN amongst all those lesser-valued altcoins that makes me appreciate my BITCOIN discovery all the more.

Sure, it's great to open a pack and read "BITCOIN," but it's nice to find a few popular altcoins like Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Peercoin too. On the other hand, some of those altcoins I'd never heard of, and I wouldn't want to collect them on their own merits, so maybe it's good to stick with the top 5+ altcoins (the safe bet coins that have a cult following and therefore a decent resale value) and leave those lesser-known altcoins alone.

Either way, I'm eagerly awaiting the 2nd Series of Genesis Coins. Grin

2367  Economy / Auctions / Re: AUCTION: Bitcoin Penny™ 2015 Error Coin | ANACS MS67 on: August 08, 2015, 06:52:42 PM
Gratz to the winner, This ended at 1AM for me, I would have bided more but I needed to make some ZZzz :-)

Good news, my friend. I still have a couple of these (same MS67 grade) that I plan to sell / auction soon. (I'd list one today, but I'm out of town and can't snap new photos until Thursday. On the other hand, I suppose that I could use the previous photos as stock images since the grade is exactly the same.)

Next time, I'll make sure to end the auction a few hours earlier at 6PM EST. Wink

2368  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Grading Coins - A Few Basic Questions. on: August 08, 2015, 02:02:49 AM
Every coin I have ever had graded has got the silver sticker on

Have a look at
http://www.anacs.bounce.so/coins.php

Look at the coins I posted the ANACS references of before
4908284 - 4908287
They were all ANACS imaged (costs $3 a coin)

On their rears they have the silver "AUTHENTICATED" sticker

AUTHENTICATED, That's what I meant. Not VERIFIED.

Are you saying that you received the AUTHENTICATED sticker on your coins without paying the verification fee? I hope it's the case. I've always been unclear as to what the "Variety Attribution Verification & Errors" $7 fee was for. I asked once in an email, but they never answered me. I've been paying it on my submission form as instructed by a member here, but I have no clue what I'm paying for. Does anyone have a clear answer on this?

Regards,
Christopher
2369  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Grading Coins - A Few Basic Questions. on: August 07, 2015, 09:56:21 PM
I guess everyone should get a last batch sent off before the new form hits.

Is it worth it to pay the $7 for verification per round? If we don't add that option, will the label include less info?

The verification fee covers the cost of printing the first bits onto the slab - you need to do it. Yes I am going to be sending out a batch before they enforce it ASAP.

Here is an example form (.pdf) https://www.dropbox.com/s/mkcwqcr9cgi18ez/Example_Submissionform.pdf?dl=0

ANACS calls the first bits the serial #

Doesn't the fee also include the shiny silver holographic "VERIFIED" sticker on the back? It might not mean much, but it looks very official, and it may help persuade some potential buyers / collectors who are on the fence.

Christopher

And if the category is "cryptocurrency" would this exclude any coin that does not have an area/recess for a private key??
since anything without this available to make a "wallet" would be considered a token??

This is a great question, and I'd love to know ANACS' answer. How do they define "cryptocurrency?"

Technically, even the popular Casascius coins are simply tokens. After all, once the BTC is redeemed, the Casascius is no longer a wallet, but a mere collectible token [with the potential to become a wallet someday].

I wonder how ANACS views this?

Sorry I keep meaning to do this for the community, but always forget too. I have talked with ANACS and they agreed to answer questions we had for them. I will make the thread this evening and lay it all out about grading.

Really looking forward to this. Thanks, Blazed! Smiley

2378  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How To Buy Physical Bitcoin? on: August 05, 2015, 12:35:55 AM
As what the LiteCoinGuy already pointed out, https://www.titanbtc.com/ is where you can get solid physical bitcoins. Personally I'd go for Cascacius but I haven't seen much of the Cascacius guys around. Sad

Casascius coins are constantly for sale in the goods or auction sections of the marketplace.

Yep, I have currently 7 different Casascius coins for sale.

I would recommend a beautiful 2013 1 BTC Silver coin. Made of 1 Oz .999 silver. Fully loaded with 1 BTC.

Price: 2.4 BTC Including world wide shipping.

Check out my sales thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1142211

TookDk is another excellent option. (Drooling over that silver Casascius!)

Titans are nice. They are solidly made, a crisp fine cut of coin.

Titans are SWEEEET! Just make sure you buy a REAL one from the link above, not a cheap knockoff (fake silver) for $7 on eBay.

2380  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What wallet should i use? on: August 05, 2015, 12:29:50 AM
I think it mostly depends on the amount you intend to keep in a wallet. Web wallets should be considered 'hot', holding just enough for what you need to use daily (check out Coinbase). Mobile wallets are also considered hot (check out Bitcoin Wallet on Android, Breadwallet on iOS or Mycelium). Any considerable amount of coins should be stored in a 'cold' wallet - one without access to the internet (check out Paper Wallets, Hardware Wallets or specialized software like Armory).

I think that's a pretty good answer. Personally, I mostly use Coinbase, breadwallet, and electrum. I hope to add a Trezor soon too.

Regards,
Christopher
