2381  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin at all time high $6000 on: October 21, 2017, 10:41:00 AM
Heyyy guys , bitcoin at $6000 after world bank president said "buying bitcoin at 5200 is too expensive "  ... what price do you see the market will close this year at ? Thanks all  Wink

Never mind what the world bank president says, most of these statements are designed to drive the price down. The important thing is what holders think and do with their coins, if there is a dump, the price goes down, if they hoard it, it increases. Its all abut demand and supply, and not what some guy in come bank thinks.

This.

I'm feeling very nervous - it's risen too fast and the rise isn't really accompanied by real world adoption, it's pure speculation. Am wondering whether to sell some coins to crystallise the gains.
2382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Exchanges that support BTG on: October 21, 2017, 02:02:44 AM
Based on what was posted on the official site of Bitcoin Gold, YoBit, HitBTC, AbuCoins, Beatcoin, Bitcoin India, BitStar and BitBay are among the list of exchanges that will show support to this fork.

But none of the really big names are on there - Poloniex, Bittrex, GDAX, Gemini, Kraken etc.

I think gold will be a bit of a damp squib.
2383  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great Day for Bitcoin from $5,600 to $6,054 on: October 21, 2017, 01:47:40 AM
The growth has just been nasty. We didn't even get a roadblock, which is amazing. To smooth sailing we go? $10000 by the end of the year doesn't sound so absurd anymore.

It's gone up too fast. It has to pull back at some point. At the same time, I wouldn't risk shorting because it's in the grip of insane momentum.
2384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ECB President: Bitcoin Not 'Mature' Enough to Be Regulated on: October 21, 2017, 12:32:48 AM
They might change their tune if this Catalonia thing blows up.

The Catalans were withdrawing money from the banks today:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-19/catalan-separatists-ask-supporters-to-pull-money-from-banks

A breakaway independence movement, disruptions to the euro (because Catalonia uses the euro along with Spain), people moving funds into safer currencies. It's a perfect storm.

Don't forget that the event that made bitcoin mainstream in 2013 was the euro-Cyprus crisis.
2385  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitfinex is dropping their US customers on: October 21, 2017, 12:17:25 AM
People are crapping on the Americans - but the thing is Bitfinex is dodgy. Their mysterious hack for example. It's no wonder the American regulators started asking questions.

American traders can use GDAX or Gemini, while Bitfinex will attract the dodgier end of the spectrum. I'd be very surprised if their exchange was even operating in a few years time.
2386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is how my 7 bitcoins at coinbase got hacked on: October 20, 2017, 09:36:07 PM
Sorry for your loss OP.

I think he raised a very valid point, google phone number of Coinbase will come back a fake one. And the fake one will steal your coin.

This.

Don't use Google!

The ads a the top tend to be phishing sites, and in the search results they tend to also list scam sites. You are safer bookmarking login urls, rather than googling and automatically clicking what is at the top (which is sometimes the site you want and sometimes a phoshing ad).

Coinbase is also at fault - they should have listed their phone number on their website, so OP didn't have to google.
2387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how are these alt whales cashing out? on: October 20, 2017, 08:30:31 PM
most of the action happens on poloniex yet I've been waiting months to get my withdrawals above 2000 per day.

there must be people on there with thousands of btc.

how are they getting it off? special deals? they don't plan to leave?

unless they do something then it'll take a couple of years to get their profits out.

same goes for many other alt exchanges now. that would annoy me.

I think some of the whales got verified back in 2014 when it was a small exchange and had just introduced verification.

Others will have multiple accounts, so will be able to cash out from all of them.
2388  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trace Mayer Predicts Bitcoin Will Hit $27,395 USD By February 2018 on: October 20, 2017, 06:38:32 PM
There would need to be a LOT of new money coming into bitcoin for it to hit $27k in just a few months. Like big hedge fund money.

The trouble is, none of the exchanges are equipped to handle huge volumes. Predictably, they all struggled today when bitcoin spiked to $6000. They would never cope with a doubling of users, the whole thing would grind to a halt and the price would fall back.
2389  Economy / Speculation / Re: For fun Bitcoin price 6000$ on: October 20, 2017, 03:24:27 PM
It's just hit $6000 right now on Bitstamp!

And it's $6030 on Bitfinex.

I wonder what prompted this latest surge up - and I wonder when it will stop! Anyone shorting is going to have a rough time.
2390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why 99% Alt Coin Will Fail? A Case Study on: October 20, 2017, 02:07:41 PM
Good post.

We've already seen a lot of alts die - Neucoin for example (which was being shilled by Jackson Palmer back in the day).

Unless a coin has a special selling point or a big community, it's likely to die within five years.
2391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Be careful. (Newbies and others ...) on: October 20, 2017, 12:21:36 PM
There might be some profit taking after October 25th, when people realise that no exchange uis going to list bitcoingold.

As for the segwit2x thing - if there is a genuine consensus am, there won't be two chains, it will simply switch to 2x.
2392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex. What happen? on: October 20, 2017, 11:03:14 AM

What lying? They are business and they have to comply to whatever the country where they are operating certain rules of operation or if they are being pressured.

I have read that it's because of IRS so they are also following what's the standard that what's given to them and for those closed account they are giving an instruction on how they can activate their account.

And if you are one of those people that has been disabled for using their trading platform you really have to follow and comply. US is becoming strict to the bitcoin exchanges / trading platforms.

The rules they're trying to enforce go beyond anything that either the Americans or Europeans require.

Also - I'd be very careful about uploading private information to these exchanges. Most get hacked, and then the info is sold on the dark web. With cryptsy, people started getting phishing emails (because the email addresses had been sold). Imagine how much worse it would be if your passport and other ID details were sold.
2393  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: UK Members - Would you use a Bitcoin ATM? on: October 20, 2017, 10:36:46 AM
I'm in the UK and the answer is NO.

Bitcoin ATM fees are too high, it's better to buy your bitcoins on an exchange, especially as you can do it from the comfort of your home, and don't need to travel anywhere.

That said, I can see bitcoin ATMS springing up in airports and places like that, especially if retailers start accepting bitcoin and tourists want to top up their bitcoin wallets before they go on a spending spree.
2394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not the new gold, Goldman Sachs says on: October 20, 2017, 09:59:08 AM
It's kind of interesting how all these investment bankers are popping up to talk about bitcoin practically every week.

It's almost like they are trying to move the price with their comments...
2395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Where to Buy BCC - BitcoinCash on: October 20, 2017, 09:56:27 AM
Here is a list iof exchanges that support bitcoincash:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-cash/#markets

Some exchanges like bitfinex or kraken will allow you to buy it directly for dollars.
2396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the best altcoin to hold for long term and why? on: October 19, 2017, 01:30:41 PM
I open this topic because i want know the opinion of others and also to help other to decide

OK... I will give you the list of 5 altcoins, which are having the maximum future potential. The list is in decreasing order of potential.

1. Bitcoin Cash
2. Ethereum
3. Monero
4. Waves
5. Litecoin

I don't know much about Bitcoin Gold, and therefore I am not including it here. My opinion may change after its listing.

Bitcoingold is a scam and I don't think any exchange will list it.

I'd add doge to your list - the fees are so low it's the best way of moving money and tipping. It's the only coin that actually acts like a currency.
2397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Alt coin trading exchanges on: October 19, 2017, 01:05:14 PM
Careful with bittrex - apart from the account disabling thing going on, they frequently delist coins because they don't have big trading volume (and even coins with decent volume like bitshares got delisted).

Hitbtc does have the biggest selection of coins, but lots of their wallets are under maintenance.
2398  Economy / Speculation / Re: Drug Money and the Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: October 19, 2017, 01:02:22 PM

1. To launder that much money, you'd have to be moving a LOT of bitcoins. Regularly. If the total market cap of crypto is only 165 billion, and of that only 94 billion, we're talking about very noticeable amounts being laundered. Even taking into account a $5000 Bitcoin value, to move 1 million dollars requires 200 Bitcoins. And we know the industry is moving hundreds of millions a month. Those Bitcoin volumes moving into USB wallets are going to be very easy to detect. Getting someone to SELL you those Bitcoins is going to be hard to find. Exchanges as we know them are going to be very difficult as well.

See, if you're moving millions of fiat in a global market of 100s of trillions, it's a speck. Perhaps when Bitcoin is valued at 100,000, it may become more viable.

This. It's easier to launder money through a legit business, or use cash, than bitcoin. Bitcoin is too small, and the public ledger means that if your address is tied to a persona, you are toast.
2399  Economy / Speculation / Re: Drug Money and the Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: October 18, 2017, 01:52:02 PM
Bitcoin was earlier adopted by dark markets and used for illegal purposes earlier. But since it was pseudo anonymous, they had some issues since all transactions are publicly registered in the ledger. So,government authorities could easily trace any transaction and reach the culprit.

Later, when they found monero providing full anonymity, they just adopted monero and started using it fully. Now,bitcoin is widely used all over the world by even normal people for various purposes like trading, transactions, paying bills, buying products online, etc.

So now, bitcoin rise has no relationship with drug usage.Bitcoin has already traveled beyond such borders.

Yup. The FBI testified to Congress that the public ledger made their job easier, because once they had tied an address to a person, they knew everything.

Most criminals prefer to use cash because it is genuinely anonymous, especially used bills that have been issued decades ago.
2400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have ever had any experience to buy something with crypto? on: October 18, 2017, 12:24:19 PM
Well at the moment, Bitmain's ASIC miners can only be purchased with Bitcoincash.

That's why BCH spiked yesterday - the S9 miners were released, and buyers hadn't realised they'd need BC to buy (even though this was announced months ago).
