2381  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 29, 2019, 11:07:43 PM
Hi thanks.  So when i get the address, whether i decide to receive btc or not, always click the yes right?  Example right now i saw the code and its the same and i just right click confirm.

So has there been times when the address on the ledger live is different from what is showing on the nano ledger s though?  Also its like you have to put it right next to each other as the nano ledger s goes by real fast for you to make sure its correct?

When i try this again in a short while, will it generate a different address?  So basically the address that is shown now and i clicked confirm even though im not sending it at the moment, i can always send it to that address later on in the future as that address is always one of my address?   I will be sending my remaining btc from my electrum to the nano ledger s in a short while.
2382  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 29, 2019, 09:15:20 PM
I have not sent btc or received btc in a long time on the nano ledger s and do not remember exactly the process.

2383  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 29, 2019, 09:12:12 PM
I also notice on ledger live, it shows a new update available and on the far right update now.  Do i click on that now or thats not a big deal?

Also on the ledger s screen that show

use wallet to view wallets, settings, about, quit app, the previous screen before this show wallets like bitcoin, waves.  How do i get back to that one?  Do i click quit app?

But what i have on the nano ledger screen now with the use wallet to view wallets, settings, about, quit app, that is what i should see now?

So now to receive btc from electrum, i go to

Accounts bitcoin... then on top right click on receive?  When i do this, it has both

connect and unlock your ledger device and navigate to your bitcoin device both checked.  Then i click next?

But when i do it says Verify address on device- please verify that the btc address shown on your device matches the computer and there is option to click on verify.  But on the nano ledger screen, all it shows is uses wallet to view accounts?  So where is my btc address for my ledger nano so on the ledger live?  I want to send btc from electrum to it now.
2384  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Question on: March 29, 2019, 09:06:53 PM
Hi there just opened my ledger live and put password on it.  Then plugged in my nano ledger s and put the pin number.

I then clicked right to bitcoin and then double click it.  Right now its on the screen use wallet to view account.  Only thing i can now is click right and go to settings, about and quit app.  So is there where im suppose to be now?

Right now i want to send my remaining btc from electrum to my nano ledger s.
2385  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:57:38 PM
Thanks to both of you.  I put no.
2386  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:49:40 PM
Can someone tell me if im suppose to click yes or no for this?  I still have it on the background as i dont want to make a mistake on it.
2387  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:42:55 PM
i assume answer is no correct?  I did not click on yes or no yet... just waiting as not sure what to press.
2388  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:41:48 PM
okay i did it.  Now when i open it, i get message

for security reasons we advise that you always use the latest version of electrum.  Would you like to be notified when there is a newer version of electrum available?  Do i click yes or no?
2389  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:34:28 PM
Hi thanks.  One last question before i do this.

When i type electrum on google and then first link that shows up and i click on it

I notice in the view site information right to the left of the address bar of the website, it shows certification valid.  And cookies it shows 3 in use.

But when i manually type in https://electrum.org and it goes to the same website, it shows certification valid.  And cookies shows 0 in use.

I assume this is nothing to be worried of?

So basically just type it in

https://electrum.org

Correct?  Sorry for asking this few times.  I just want to be extremely careful with this as you said google doesn't always display the correct site and i thought its strange when i click it... the lock bar to the left of the site when you click on it and view site information it shows 3 cookies in use as oppose to myself typing it manually showing 0 cookies in use...
2390  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:25:11 PM
Do i download it by going to the bottom of the page?

OR

Go to downloads

Then Windows 7 and higher

Standalone executor

or

Windows installer?

Latest Release is 3.3.4 correct?

2391  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:23:22 PM
https://electrum.org/#home

This is the official site right?  This is first link i click on google when i type electrum.
2392  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:22:42 PM
Well i rather type it in manually.  That is more safer right?

So

do i type manually

www.electrum.org

or

electrum.org

I just am very careful with all of this.
2393  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 08:21:44 PM
Tryninja

So the first link on google is correct right?

https://electrum.org

Correct?
2394  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 07:59:52 PM
Okay so which is the official electrum website?

Do i type manually on the address barr

www.electrum.org

OR

type electrum on google and first link that shows up is

https://electrum.org

I just want to make sure of this.
2395  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 07:56:41 PM
While it shows synchronizing, it does show my current btc balance in electrum.  Right now i want to send the btc from it to my nano ledger s.  Then claim my bitcoin cash and then bitcoin gold.

So now i should go to

www.electrum.org

Is that correct?  I want to type it out myself on the webpage.

When i type it on google, first link that shows up is

https://electrum.org

So if i type the bolded one a bit above, that is fine?  If i click on the link above, that is fine?  I want to make sure im going to the correct site.
2396  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum 3.0.5 Synchronizing? on: March 29, 2019, 07:53:08 PM
I have some btc in my electrum but most of it has already been sent to my nano ledger s.  I have not used the electrum in a while.

I opened electrum recently and after typing in my password, it shows its synchronizing and taking a long time and nothing happens.

Am i suppose to go to electrum site and install the newest version?  Then once i do that, then it will work?  I want to send the remaining btc i have left in electrum to my nano ledger s.

Then once i do this, i will claim by btc cash by downloading electroncash.

Then i will claim my bitcoin gold.

Can someone tell me what steps i have to do now since my electrum 3.0.5 shows synchronizing?  I know you have to make sure you download the legit electrum.

I just closed electrum 3.0.5 right now.

What is my next step?
2397  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 29, 2019, 03:13:13 PM
Hi there.  When you say enter seed words and then choose type of address... you say its probably legacy... how would i know if its that or segwit?  Are there only 2 options?  So how i know for sure?  If i put in legacy but its segwit, there will be issue?

I know that for my nano ledger s, the bitcoin wallet, i set it up as segwit as oppose to legacy a while back because ppl said you save money on sending fees or something like that?  So segwit has nothing to do with the nano ledger s right?

So how i know if the address i have is probably legacy?  If it isn't then what will happen?  How do i know if my electrum was legacy or segwit?

2398  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How to test 24 words on: March 29, 2019, 02:23:00 PM
Ledger Nano has an application to test the seed recovery phrase

- Plug your Ledger Nano and open Ledger Live.
- Go to the "manager" section in the menu and install the "recovery check" app
- On the device open the recovery check app and select "Start check"
- Enter your recovery phrase
- If it's ok the devide will display a message saying “Recovery phrase matches“

That's all

Did the chrome app had this feature as well?

2399  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 29, 2019, 02:14:58 PM
jerry0, why complicate something that should be pretty easy? To claim forked coins two things are important :

  • To move Bitcoin from wallet which private keys / seed you will use to claim forked coins.
  • To be careful with downloads of wallets for those coins.

Furthermore, it is important that you claim one coin at the time by download wallets and importing your seed / private keys. After you import seed / private key in wallet you will see your balance, and then you can send that coins to Ledger Nano S.

Electrum bitcoin and ElectronCash can work on same device without problem, it has been repeated several times. I advise you to read this thread from the beginning, answers to all your questions have already been posted.

I still have a small amount of my btc in my electrum.  So right now go and send the rest of btc from electrum to nano ledger.

Then go to www.electroncash.org  and download that.

Then i type in my 12 word seed to claim the BCH right?  Or should i import the file?  Or either is fine?  My windows 10 laptop that im using now which has my electrum wallet and everything important... there is virus or malware or at least there should not be as i been using it for a while without issue.

Then send the bitcoin cash from electron cash to my nano ledger?

Then should i delete electron cash from my windows 10 laptop that im using now?

Then for bitcoin gold, use the android phone to do it?

Yes HCP mentioned to me no issue downloading electron cash on same computer as electrum.  He however did say he took necessary precautions though and said he knew what he was doing even though there was a risk.  But as long as you download the correct electron cash from www.electroncash.org  you are fine right?
2400  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Claiming Bitcoin Cash and Gold On New Computer and Nano Ledger S? on: March 29, 2019, 02:11:11 PM
Okay the claiming bitcoin gold thing through android is through that program coinomi as i just went through old threads.  But now i read there are issues with it?
Are you referring to the problem with the desktop version of Coinomi where one user lost a lot of money since the desktop version does a spell check on the seed words with google? As far as I know that vulnerability was only present in the Desktop client - not in the Android version.

The download page for Electron Cash doesn't mention if they have support for Windows 7 but there have been problems in the past with various wallets/software not working properly on Windows 7. I think Ledger Live also doesn't support it any longer.
If you don't have any important documents on that computer just reinstall your OS, install Windows 10 if you can. Better be safe than sorry and risk your funds being stolen due to malware that could be present on your device.

Yes that is what im referring to.  Well i read a while back that people said if you want to claim bitcoin gold when your bitcoin was in electrum at the time, you can use coinomi on the android.  I have access to an android phone now so i figure i could do that.  Would you recommend this?

I don't have anything important on that windows 7 desktop at all.  The thing is i have done a clean reinstall on it before but it did not completely wipe everything out as i made a mistake somewhere in it.  So there could be chance it has malware or something like that.  So i thought of do i want to do that and download electron cash on it and do it... or make sure i wipe computer fully clean on the desktop before doing this.
