@ business-savvy nxters:

Is it possible to monetize a decentralized social network, hosted on Distributed Storage provided by Service Providers? I'm quite tired of checking all accounts on Facebook, Google+, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. Faster a big player comes to Nxt Socialization, earlier I get rid of necessity to waste time on mentioned social networks.

If it's based on MOBILE it may be possible....

....but if all the planned features start running from the Nxt client then you automatically have a social network....alaises, msg, social exchanges, forum etc.

If it we have all features running smoothly in the mobile app then every Nxter is always connected to every other nxter.

prob whever some stakeholders give up some NXT to Nexern for all his work.  Some of these stakeholders with tons of NXT need to come off some of it and pay the man.

How much have you given Nexern? I hear your words, and understand your point, but why should community listen to you? Have you got skin in the game? NXT, bitcoin, LTC, USD, YEN, EUR - what wealth are you contributing to NXT development, or are you donating 'time' only?

Let Nexern speak for himself.

don't use that tone to someone who's giving all that is possible for NXT.

He did more then others with big mouths here, so back off.

Wesley's auto-updating Mac client has been terrific for me. Almost no hassle to maintain on top of my VPS node. I think it's a safe "easy-install" bet for Mac users.... Until a proper client is built, anyway.

We definitely need a better Windows solution.

In general, I'm disappointed in the lack of support from the founders for people who are building clients. On the list of Things That Need To Be Working Better Soon, this is at the top of my list.  Alas, nobody has any control over the whims of anyone, so nothing can be forced.  If I were sitting on a 5% Nxt stake, though, I'd think very carefully about supporting Wesley, ferment, nexern, Olivier, and JunhuaLyu.

For mass adoption you need simple easy to use clients. As of now the general public will show no interest as they can not install NXT. simple as that.

unless you all want NXT becomes elitaire we need simple apps.

Agree

Edit: I really find it hard to believe that the original stakeholders are not compensating Nexern for his efforts.

and what does bitcoin have to come into this?

Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information

Mobile is big....I think we all know this....we just have to see which NXT feature can be best utilized on mobile...and Arbitrary messaging is a big one...we don't even have to mention that we can do payments and all....with the NSA fiasco many people are very keen on arbitrary messaging.....that's why Bittorrent is launching a similar service....Nxt is more than payment....we are not limited like Bitcoin.

2386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 07:24:20 AM
Agree with Lophie.  We need some love for the Mac too Smiley

Yeah right! go write a lettre to apple, they don't even want bitcoin apps on iPad and iPhone.

But we will push other features which they do allow....messaging, etc...why does Bitcoin have to come into this.

This has to be fixed within today....the block explorer needs to be up before launch

OK, so here is my idea. I am sure it is not quite right since I don't fully understand asset exchange. Assuming it is similar to a company issuing stock, and assuming it can continue issuing stock on an as needed basis, I propose a NXTmutualfund, each share in the NXTmutualfund will cost 1 NXT. Everyone that buys a NXTmutualfund share will get a prorata amount of the forging revenues from all the NXT as a dividend to their specified address, or you can select an automatic reinvestment program to purchase more shares with some or all of your NXT.

James

P.S. Happy New Year!

James

I think we are of the same thinking regarding this idea.

Nxtmutualfund/NXTIPO Company or Whatever name.

USP: Pool Forging

Revenue: Forging of Blocks to gain transaction fees

Listing: NXT Asset Exchange

Funding: Selling of Shares/Tokens

Advantage: Small stakeholders can buy the tokens/shares of the NXTMutualfund...thereby depositing their Nxt into the pool.  They can also SELL the shares/tokens anytime and exit the pool.

Interest payment: Fees gained from forging will be kept in secure (behind Tor/ Firewall/ etc) account/accounts of the NXTmutual fund company and paid out on a schedule determined by the shareholders of the fund.

Management: Any group of trusted Stakeholders can propose a management team for the NXTMutualfund and this management team will be paid a percentage of the Transaction fees collected as salary.

2 or 3 employees would be sufficient.

Is this a planned feature?

Yes, it was announced long time ago. Maybe even BCNext wrote about it by himself.

Done.

I wonder how it'd clog up the blockchain though, or the main blockchain won't be used for that?

The blockchain won't be used for storage. Only for subscription payments and validation.

Is this a planned feature?

Clone base features of Bitcointalk Smiley

File storage would also be inclusive in the above base features?

how many dev's would it take....and length of time?....we could create a new thread on the forum and peg the bounty at 250,000 Nxt.

It's not harder than development of a forum engine. We could use any language but Java is preferable coz lets to share codebase.

could you pls provide us a short description of what would be required so that we could fill a bounty thread and initiate this mini project.
2393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 09:45:28 PM
How soon could we work to implement this?

As soon as we find some java devs who could code this. Most of the work is not related to Nxt core and can be done in parallel as a separate project.

how many dev's would it take....and length of time?....we could create a new thread on the forum and peg the bounty at 250,000 Nxt.

Pls advise?

Edit: What bounty amount would you suggest?
2394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 09:33:44 PM
Maybe we should just try and get people to refer to us at Nxt from now on... lol Tongue

Aye. I think we should implement Service Providers ASAP and move to decentralized forum...

YES....the forum....then the exchange are the weak points:

During the recent DDOS attacks....they 1st attacked the network....when they found it resilient...they then did attacked the forum.....then the exchange.

They will always repeat this pattern of attack because it worked....as these are centralized & it cripples us....but doesn;t kill....which is not good either.

EDIT: So move the forum inside the network....and also the exchange....so we strengthen our weak points.

Which means you can access your wallet from a web address. Isn't that Swell?

landomata,

I am assuming core developers have their millions of NXT and will happily continue adding cool core features. However a core feature usually needs a bit of extra to make it maximize transaction fees.

If people think wesleyh is being overcompensated by his earning thousands of NXT per <Tbd> then others will figure out how to monetize the alias feature too. The dev team will be happy that people are using NXT to make NXT more valuable, since they presumably have a lot of NXT. Let's say we end up with half a dozen key contributors to alias monetization and a dozen supporting contributors, as just arbitrarily say all key contributors deserver equal share and all supporting contributors deserve equal shre and supporting role is worth one quarter a key role.

We would have 6 + 3 = 9 total shares, which each of the half dozen key contributors getting 1/9th the alias group's allocation and the dozen supporting people would get 1/36th.

I made up half dozen, dozen and 4:1 ratio. Each specific company will probably have different number of participants and ratios. The important concept here is that if a certain core feature has a lot of potential and a person is clever enough to unlock it with additional work, then that person gets a windfall. Other people notice that and come up with additional ways until it gets to a point of diminishing returns and new untapped core features gets developed.

Decentralized, self-selectred parallel development with profit motive.

I think it makes sense and the best part is that almost all of it is based on math that can't be argued with. The only thing that is up for debate is a person's membership in a group. I can see an odd numbered council of CfB, jean-luc, etc. to decide on this issue if there is any controversy. I don't imagine we would get too many controversies as a person's contribution needs to be tied directly to generating transaction fees from a core feature.

James

Dear James,

Sorry....the infrastructure/feature builders won't necessarily be the current core dev team but any developer anywhere in the world who wants to implement a fundamental feature inside the Nxt ecosystem not yet imagined by any of us.

EDIT: After which specialized companies based on your above line of reason would develop these new fundamental features further to the point of diminishing returns.

lets take wesleyh for example....he did not develop the fundamental feature called Alias System....so he was not the source of the new fee revenue stream...but he did extend the feature to new levels of functionality.

2397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 07:23:04 PM
NXT is a way off from penetrating that market but NXT might need a tiered transaction charge in the future as a micropayment in different markets means something completely different.

Someone could issue tokens backed by NXTs and use centralized approach to process such transactions. This is much cheaper.

Would that not be similar to functions performed by Nxt Asset Exchange Gateways?
2398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 07:21:37 PM
landomata,

wesleyh's share would be (daily forged amount of total community NXT fund) * (percentage of overall revenue alias fees are) since the day he released the plugins.

Currently that is ~1% of ____ per day

When we get DNS functionality he will share it with the ones who implement DNS. Probably costs for real work DNS hosting would come off the top of Aliascompany NXT

This way we can quantify each person's contribution to the community, instead of guessing what each feature is worth. Of course, nothing stops people from sending their NXT to people who are already getting community funds.

James

The above formula is awesome/practical....but many will question if Wesleyh is entitled to the specific amount generated by the formula because he did not develop the underlying infrastructure but build on top of what was already there.

Where it could not be questioned is when a person or entity developed a feature that was integrated network wide....such as if X developed Arbitrary Messaging and this feature generated a totally new fee stream...Your formula could then apply to the particular fees generated by this new feature.

Like Apps in the Apps store.....Nxt Infrastructure/feature builders would be paid based on the above formula because we cannot buy a feature/App this formula provides a monetization option for the Nxt infrastructure/feature developers.

Let's get the VS in place and vote everything, can't wait for that Smiley

Arbitrary Messages is next feature, VS will be later. Also we need client soft that supports VS. I see noone is developing it.

1) Arbitrary Message at what block?

2) I think soft clients will get build quite easy once source code is released....developers will need to squat somewhere to create value....so different features will get divided up between them.

2400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 04:40:41 PM

Since we can start this right now without adding the IPOshares complexity, I suggest we start a dry run and calculate how much wesleyh should get. As we get more and more contributors and more and more groups,it will clarify as to which ones are on a large growth path and would benefit from the IPO process.

James

What target amount do you have for Wesleyh in mind?
