THIS IS  ANOTHER REASON WHY WE HAVE LOST FOCUS!

Lock this thread and let's move to a new forum.

If we have a debate for something the whole thread get's derailed and you have the impression that NXT project is chaotic etc.

Having specialized topics like TF, Instant TXs, AT, AE etc will help a lot both progress and get rid of this feeling that progress is stalled, situation is fuzzy etc. that puts us in a negative feedback loop!

I agree with you.....I have realized the cons of staying on this thread now greatly exceed the benefits.

1662  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 10, 2014, 08:58:04 AM
Just relax and chill. Rome wasn't build in one day. This is one of the best communities for a crypto!

that is true but I dont see much agreement , just some bits here and there. that doesnt make it stronger?

1)
Because you do not see the full picture at the moment....the more time you spent here the more things will become clear.

The pace of development is very fast that's the benefit of independent actors we are all termites building a termite mount....it's very hard for each termite to see the end result of each individual termites actions.

2)
If you look at all other "2nd GEN COIN" Nxt is not doing too bad.

Mastercoin has been in a steady slide while Nxt have been pretty stable.

Personally I think we just "stick with the plan" and get on with it (otherwise you guys will still be debating in 2015 about what to do by which time Nxt will be irrelevant).

I don't want to rely on others in such a way. What's the downside of TF?

It was designed to favour a smaller number of very high powered machines - so it is much more centralised.

Also when it comes down to it PoS *forces* you to rely upon the stake holders - of course there is no reason why a parallel chain couldn't be PoW/PoH instead.

Can't we plug NODECOIN into this setup?
1665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 12:43:14 PM
Basically TF is useful for handling very large TPM rates and not much else.

I thought with TF we also have some security measurement against certain attack attempts.

I also thought the same.
1666  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 12:33:39 PM
Can't we have specific clients for each chain like we have now with Wesley's webclient for testnet.

That could be a good idea - perhaps if we added a few extra APIs that control things like fees then it would make it very simple to "add a blockchain" to a client.

It would be a lot easier to market specific "clients" for specific "functions"....the inner working of the chains themselves don't have to be communicated to the average joe.

1667  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 09, 2014, 12:07:50 PM
CIYAM, could you give a complete overview where we are right now in the thought process so other smart people can jump in and help?

Okay - well technically I think parallel chains are not going to be very difficult as we *already have one* (it's called "test net") so we are not talking about a huge amount of extra coding that would be required to be performed.

The main thing is going to be to work out what "features" are going to be made available to a parallel chain and what differences in rules (such as say fees) might apply and in particular to get community support for it.

Can't we have specific clients for each chain like we have now with Wesley's webclient for testnet.

Basically you could have NxtINDIA client linked to only NxtINDIA chain.....& NxtCHINA client to NxtCHINA chain. etc.

Maybe NxtINDIA client is for HIGH END SUPERFAST chain & NxtCHINA is for SLOW low end chain.

The CLIENT would be the gateway to specific features.

If and when NXT launches its decentralized exchange and when that exchange actually allows people to trade crypto back and forth for next to free, THEN NXT will get a lot of attention. That couple with a large marketing campaign in China would draw a lot of interest. Momentum feeds momentum in this industry.

Ethereum has excitement now because its new. That's the only reason why. No one really understands it. What NXT needs is utility, an exchange where people can freely trade peer to peer. If we get that it could be a game changer.  People are interested in what they can use, not in theories.

Once Etherium launches it will be in the same boat as NXT now. It will eventually have to have utility.

Look at Namecoin. It's all theoretical. And thus it is stagnant.

Edit: Things don't always go according to rosy plans...we all saw what happened to Etherium's IPO.

I think NXT's focus should be on completing TF to increase the transaction speed, P2P AE and multiple blockchains.

+100 ...these are what gives us advantage in this brutal market.

Give the applicant a real life scenario to work on. Something that has to be done for Nxt. A small part of a bigger task. So you can assess if he/she is good enough to be in the core dev team.

"In addition to Java developers, and in fact much more urgently, we need a good cryptographer."

Is that the same msin is working on with the review of the code? Or we need a cryptographer in our core dev team? Do you (or anyone else) have a suggestion whom we should approach?

The Nxt Mobile Applications Company will pay 100,000 Nxt to the Java Dev who successfully implements SERVICE PROVIDER FEATURE into Nxt.

If he is successful then he can become a part of the Dev team.

So to repeat we will pay the bounty for this real life project.

Who will communicate with BCNext in April after CFB departs?

Uncertainty about the core dev team isn't instilling much confidence in investors and current holders. Investors will stay away until this confusion and uncertainty disappears.

Friends of mine have no idea which client to download so are keeping their NXT on exchanges. They won't do anything until there is a one click install that works. They ask me which one is the 'main' website. All they want is to Send/Receive and not lose any NXT. No messing around with batch files, firewall settings, testnet and having to update twice a week. They don't even want to know about forging.

I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to promote one simple client that works and isn't going to freak out newbies. Can someone design a simple, safe, client that just sends and receives? I can assure you that would make so many people happy. Most newcomers aren't going to use all the other features they don't even understand, at least not yet. Forging is not an issue for them and don't care about that because they own 5k to 10k. None of their other coin wallets make any money and they don't expect NXT to either. They just want to send and receive and know their wallet is safe (secure password of course) It's that simple.

Does this make sense to anyone and does anyone have any ideas about how we arrive at one website and one simple client.

Some news regarding Account Control

I'm going to transfer (from BCNext's code to NRS) only Pooled Forging and Account Locking features. All the other features (multi-sig, for example) could be implemented with Autonomous Transactions (developed by CIYAM Open).
If Account Control has multisig, please transfer that also. AT is still a ways away and I dont think we should charge AT execution fees for multisig.

If you wont port the multisig code, at least release it, this is very important.

James
+1  ....include multisig pls.
