France made sure to qualify for the quarter-finals after beating Poland 3-1, as previously expected Poland would not be too difficult to beat France and one goal from Lewandowski was also the result of a penalty kick. Mbappe became the man of the match in this match after 2 goals against Poland and he is currently the youngest player to have scored 4 goals in two editions of the world cup.

Currently Mbappe is the top scorer awhile with 5 goals from 4 matches played, quite impressive results and still has the chance to add to his collection of goals in the quarter final against the winner between England vs Senegal.

Here top scorer position standing awhile, Moratta and Rashford still have chance added their collecting goals

Mbappe is just unstoppable. People in social media are joking about the necessity of defenders to have a scooter to catch him Tongue
In today's game, he started speeding by 40km/h! Once he catch the ball in an open space, it is a goodbye. Even his shots were terrible and nightmare for the goalkeeper.
Mbappe and Messi boosted a lot their national teams in this stage.

-snip-
Yeah that's a big blow for us especially when he was the main man in our attack. Jesus is expected to return in January so it will be like 2-4 games without him. Nketiah will start in his absence but he was the guy who created a lot of pressure on opponents for us. Well have to work it out somehow and just keep the lead intact throught these games. Martinelli and Saka are playing WC too so hope we don't have to hear some more bad news on top of this now.
[/quote]
Up until mid-January, Arsenal games aren't that hard, except maybe vs Newcastle which might be challenging. Just after they will face Spurs and ManU. These three matches are a key ones and important to win to avoid being catches by City.
Hopefully he can recover soon..

So far, Newcastle have played well, especially since they made it into the top 4 of the Premier League standings in the first half of this season. I don't believe they will be able to continue this positive trend in the second half of the season, so it is very likely that they will drop out of the top 4.
Newcastle moved slowly and steadily to the top 4. Obviously they can drop from there if the other teams, mainly ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool, will keep positive results but did you trust them to do that? I am not very optimistic about that.

Round of 16 games are going as expected for now. Argentina prevailed easily thanks to Messi's great performance. France and Netherlands also won easily against their fairly easier opponents. England and Spain will also surely advance to next stage, in my opinion. The rest of the games are a little bit mistery. I am expecting a surprise from South Korea. And Croatia will have a hard game. The surprises at this stage will give this world cup quite a thrill.
Things goes as planned until now for favourites teams at the opposite of the group stage where we witnessed some surprises!
France was doing way better than Poland and Mbappe was a key player there. Giroud did good too in addition to the other players. Poland couldn't stay stable the whole time and Lewandoski pals could do better. I wanted to see him missing the penalty for the second time for real since he was trolling but he did scored it. A nice way to say goodbye for his national team?
Senegal and England will play soon. England is favourite but who knows!

serie a bottom club hellas verona has once again changed its coach. Marco Zaffaroni replaces Salvatore Bocchetti, who succeeded Gabriele Cioffi in october. the latter, in turn, had only taken over in the summer. MZ who has also coached city rivals chievo verona, faces a herculean task... hellas has picked up just five points in 15 games and is eight points behind the non-relegation places
Verona used to finish in the 9th-10th place in the last seasons but this one seems to be the last one for them. They were a team that surprises big ones once..
They are 8 points away from Spezia, the team that is just upper the relegation zone. Not that big difference but definitely requires a lot of efforts and investment probably not just switching coaches Undecided

Australia started good especially in defence up to the 30th minute then they dropped, took the first goal then the second one was a huge mistake from the goalkeeper, otherwise the result could be a draw unfortunately for Australian.
For the moment, Argentina 2 - 1 Australia, only few minutes left in the game. For a team playing rarely in World Cup, Australia did pretty good job.
Australia did not do any job. They did not play - they were in training mode from Argentina
They have now 7 mins to save themselves - Argentine is not going to lose the match
Oh boy, we are comparing here a team that has barely a history in the World Cup and a team that has an experience here. It is like having an unknown team playing vs City or Real Madrid or PSG. Did you expect to see them winning vs the best team in the league? No! but they did good overall comparing to their skills. Same goes for USA, they did pretty good for an unexperienced team although their defeat with 3 goals to 1 vs Netherlands. It is all about what you are waiting from a team, not about victory or a defeat.
Brazil or Argentina or France will be humiliated by their supporters if they lose before finals, I could say even if they fail to win the World Cup. Teams like Morocco and Senegal know pretty well their limits, if they pass the next stage, it will be equivalent to winning the title. You cannot compare every team the same..
2386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: African teams at Qatar. on: December 03, 2022, 10:18:21 PM
Interestingly Morocco will play the round 16 with their European neighbor Spain in a match I give equal chances to both country basically both country have similar style of play, if the Moroccans can go all the way to top their group which include a star-studded Belgium and Croatia then I knew they have a lot to offer in the competition and not mere pushover, honestly more upset is bound to be unleashed in many matches ahead just like the way Camerounian defeated Brazil in yestarday match, I must commend the African countries that participated in this World Cup for putting up a brilliant performance and representing the continent well.
African teams played good in this World Cup but unfortunately they made a mistake in a game that costed them a lot. Tunisia underestimated Australia. Cameroon should regret Serbia game mainly.
After all from 5 teams, there is two that will face quite hard teams. Morocco - Spain and Senegal - England, the winners will avoid Brazil and Argentina but will have to face France at some point.

Has any player in the Premier League been seriously injured after played for their country?
AFAIK, there is Gabriel Jesus who were injured during Cameroon match and risk to not continue playing in World Cup games. There is uncertainty about resuming the first matches with Arsenal after the break end..
Hopefully there will not be more players to risk knee injuries like him.
Otherwise in other leagues, there is many players who were injured mainly Neymar but it seems to be a mild one.

2389  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: December 02, 2022, 11:07:16 PM
Germany elimination from this year world cup quickly surprised us all, even though previously Germany was considered one of the favorite teams to win this year world cup but in fact they were eliminated in the group phase, so far Germany has been dominated by Bayern players but somehow as if there is not visible cohesiveness in the German national team like when the player played for Munich, I think the current German era is over and Germany must evaluating their players and it is better to focus on young talents in the European Championship later.
Germany knocked out of worldcup early due how things really become unluck for them , they had a lot of opportunities missed and too often , you can't even count how many times they hit the bar during the last three matches of the group , they supposed to scored a lot of goals but here they are.

Luckily at the other side , the players could resting early to prepare for the domestic league resumed , bayern would be in huge advantage for this.
Germany elimination, was a joke and very humiliating one regardless of how good players they have, how good they did and how many opportunities they made. A defeat remains a defeat and Japan kicked them off twice. First time by winning vs them, second time by winning vs Spain and nullified their efforts in this version of World Cup.
Now getting more time to rest and train is a good thing of course, but World Cup is also important internationally, financially and superior to the domestic league by far.
2390  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: December 02, 2022, 10:58:33 PM
At the moment, Napoli is the most likely, but when you look in the mirror from last season, like when Milan was far enough ahead or Inter, who were already safe with 7 points at that time, but had to get worse due to clear consistency, this must be taken into account, in my opinion, even though so far Napoli has been very strong but the chances they are still there to lose but the problem is that there are no other clubs that have shown their capacity, especially for big clubs.
As I mentioned before in Bundesliga and Ligue 1, the problem with Bayern and PSG dominating titre for long, isn't the fact that they are winning all games but it is the problem with the other teams losing easy ones!
Serie A is different on the team that is leading while the others aren't that far but are far from staying consistant and stop losing their games. If this happens then Napoli could risk its place.
2391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: December 02, 2022, 10:52:00 PM
Vincent Aboubakar scored a good goal today, but he made a very unprofessional move on goal celebration and was ejected by receiving his second yellow card. Cameroon said goodbye to the tournament with a good match and a good win... It was a big surprise that Brazil lost today, but like all the teams that used player rotation in the previous matches, they lost the match today. In fact, if we look at the result from this perspective, there is nothing too surprising. I am already looking forward to the match between Brazil and South Korea...
I will not call that an unprofessional move. His perspective is different than European one simply. He scored a goal vs BRAZIL, his team will leave since Switzerland won and they are leading with not much time left. He celebrated the good exit of his national team like a hero, for them. He was saying I did my best, I scored vs Brazil and it is time to leave / rest. It is hard to imagine I know.

Brazil was a strong team but lost to a normal team like Cameroon.
Even though Cameroonians won, they didn't advance from their group, thus this is still a well-deserved victory for them. However, they will go down in history as the first nation from Africa to win against Brazil in the world cup in. Cameron played admirably to prevent the Brazilians from scoring the entire game. Despite playing with their second 11 players, Brazil (fixture 9 new players in the match).

No country was able to secure a 9-point total at the conclusion of the group stage matches(winning their 3 matches) of the Qatar world cup. It's unexpected
Yeah Cameroonian made the history in Africa with their victory in this match Wink
Brazil, just like France +/- Portugal were sure they advanced first in the Knockout phase so they rotated their players and with some underestimation of their opponents or maybe a hype to their second teams, they lost which was embarrassing for them, for their supporters and in their history.
No team was able to collect 9 points is obvious in this version of World Cup since most teams were comparable in terms of performance and chances to pass.

I don't think Deschamps underestimated France's opponent, it's just that first place was guaranteed for France so he wasn't worried about the outcome of this game at all. In fact, this is very sad, since it is dishonest from the point of view of sports principles (the team that plays with a demotivated opponent in the last round obviously has an advantage) and does not give a damn about the fans.
Unfortunately it was the case. Imagine 5 minutes after the goal, Deschamps made 3 substitutions at the same time, including Mbappe, then 10 minutes later he added Griezmann then Dembele. Half the team was changed in like 15 minutes after the goal. It is true that he was confident that his team will win or get even a draw but that goal surprised the French team. Anyway that was a lesson for them.

Well no... applying such reasoning, we can conclude that the League of Nations was a super important tournament for Deschamps, but the teams of Denmark (LOL) and Croatia were head and shoulders above the French team. We all know that yesterday's game was optional for France and they didn't care about the result.
Indeed it was optional but France didn't want to lose it for historical and social reasons mainly. Anyway no need to argue more about that since even Cameroon won vs Brazil Grin
At some point, when Serbia was leading, there was a hope but Switzerland killed it literally and Cameroon players were happy for winning the game but sad to be eliminated even before the end of the match..
The best ending goes to Aboubakar with the red card. He knew that game was the last one for his team in the Qatar World Cup version so Roll Eyes

If Manchester United want a random and impossible transfer,  they should go for Musiala
You say it yourself that it is 'impossible', yet you want Manchester United to bid for him, i think they'll be seen as being unserious should they make a bid for the youngster. Musiala is a precocious talent that Bayern Munich can never let go of, just like Foden in Manchester City for example, there's no bid that could make City sell Foden right now. I'd advise Manchester United to make bids for players they can possibly sign, last summer they chased some players for a very long time without signing them, Frankie de Jong is one of such players, they wouldn't want to make the same mistake in the next transfer windows, Musiala is Bayerns "golden star", and i am pretty sure clubs would know this isn't the right time to bid for him, an opportunity might come in the future, but certainly not now.
Indeed, in no way Bayern will let Musiala leave the club unless they get an offer of +€100m which is unlikely to happen. ManU has to recruit new talented players and find a plan to make the team competitive in the next seasons. This season objective is to pick an european spot, ideally CL even it looks quite difficult.
@Docnaster: you mentioned in an early post that Chelsea is much favourite to pick a CL spot more than Liverpool? I find that difficult with the actual team, maybe things will improve for them after the winter transfer window..

I really enjoyed tonight's games despite Germany's being eliminated from the World Cup. Their game was still incredible as we watched two great comebacks from them and Costa Rica in total. Germany showed a dedication example but this 4-2 win was still not enough for continuing to be a part of this tournament.

Because meanwhile Japan did an amazing job by defeating Spain by making a comeback. Doing this against a team like Spain and while Spain weren't able to secure themselves in the group was really impressive. Germany were just desperate to watch this happening. This must be a big lesson for them.
Each team of Germany and Costa Rica shared the time on dominating the game. I mean sometimes it is Germany which is basically controlling the game and scoring while Costa Rican are watching, and other times, Costa Rica is controlling without feeling the presence of Germany.
At the end, Japan surprised everyone, winning vs Spain and kicking Germany from World Cup was a record for them!

Denmark is already out. Belgium can be the next one.
Belgium, considered number 1 in FIFA classification was kicked badly in a group considered to be an easy one including Canada, Morocco and Croatia. It was a shameful result and a shocking one.
After all, Morocco deserved to be in the first place, Croatia did good and Belgium made a pity exit, just like Denmark!

Denmark has become the main disappointment of the World Cup, not only for itself, but also for Tunisia  Cheesy I do not want to belittle the victory of Tunisia, but the main reason for this event is the French team. Their manner to play poorly “unimportant” games (such as the League of Nations), and try well in important games, once will play a cruel joke with them, as the winner mentality is lost in such “unimportant” games.
Tunisia performance vs Australia made Deschamps decide to play with literally the second team. He underestimated his opponent and paid that the hard way although the changes he made in the second half. Otherwise Tunisia played good too.

Argentina won but Messi missed the penalty. In the first match against Saudi Arabia, Messi scored from the penalty but Argentina did not win.
No problem, still have plenty of time for Messi to create any goal for his country. The missed penalty is not the biggest mistake when the team still won and is able to the next round. Now, what Messi must prepare as Captain is giving spirit to the squad for the next 16-round match versus Australia, We know Australia is an underdog team, but they can make a surprise like they beat Denmark last night.
Denmark is a weak team in this World Cup version so we cannot really rely on it.
Australia is a good team, way under Argentina but definitely it shouldn't be underestimated. Argentina defeat vs Saudi Arabia made them more serious while Australia will play under stress since they will face a top team and they don't have history to move further. I expect Argentina to pass here.

The latest talks about Ronaldo is that he is about to sign a 2.5 year (remainder of this year and then 2 more seasons) with Al-Nassr for 200 million dollars a year. That really doesn't look like a good deal to me, not because Ronaldo would say no to that much money and all, but because Al-Nassr shouldn't really pay that much to Ronaldo, bigger clubs could offer less, and Al-Nassr owners also have teams all around the world, with some of them being big names, and they could offer less to him to play there?

All in all, if this 200 million a year is true, that is going to be biggest I have ever seen or heard and it will make big news, dude probably didn't make 500 million from salaries all his life, that's just way too much to sign.
Do you think those who offered this huge amount of money care a lot about it? No! He will regenerate only a part of it from T-shirts, ads, and other stuff.
I will give the example of those who collect old things, collectors, not traders, do you think they really care about the money? No! They will make an achievement. They brought the best player for them to the gulf region, everyone will come watch him, so full stadium without paying people to applause, and so on...

England played well in the second half against Wales. I hope they can go as far as they did in the Euros last year. I think Kane needs a rest and Southgate should play Foden more with Rushford on the right.
Don't underestimate Senegal the way Deschamps did with Tunisia and France ended up losing with 1 goal. From now on you don't have a second chance, it is whether you qualify or you are out! Rotating his players when he is leading comfortably is a thing and risking a whole game due to miscalculation is another thing.
France will play vs Poland next and I think they took the lesson the hard way.
