Previous posts in Meta also seem to get drowned amidst the many "Why have I been banned" and "Please restore my account" posts. I "collect" copy/pasters in Mod, please check new additions: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban. Feel free to post there too, it keeps it centralized. If it gets overlooked, they'll be found the next time someone adds to the topic.

Sure thing! I've set up a chart here. Nicely done! One question though: it shows a lower total than my table on January 4. I took the values the moment I made the table, do you use an average for the day or the lowest of the day?

i can see i have a BTC balance in my wallet but i just don't know which address it is attributed to Type "listunspent" in the Console.

i have read in this thread someone had the same problem and managed to solve it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2254231.0Sorted! Evidentally I should have been using the "WIF compressed address", and not the "WIF address". I'm not sure why, but, hey, it works!!
i don't know what the above means, can anyone help? (quote fixed, please use the quote button so it's obvious you're quoting someone)This isn't what you need. You can either check all your addresses on an online block explorer, or just try to import all of them into Electrum. Note that "sweep" means something else than "import": sweep means sending the funds to a new address within Electrum, while import means continuing to use the old address within Electrum.

Does it have the same problem when you boot Ubuntu from the installation CD, or just after installation?

but I'll start changing the negs to neutrals tomorrow. I'm going to assume theymos will be OK with that. I know the shitposters will be throwing a victory parade. How nice would it be if all shitposters would have their Merit and sMerit reset to 0? That would put all of them back to Jr. Member, and they'd have to post quality to level up, just like any other Newbie now.
|
|
|
I will, of course, do whatever theymos says. If he doesn't want this sort of feedback left, I'll delete it all or be banned. And you won't see me bitching about it either.
Whatever happens, it sure would be nice to get a solution from the man who runs bitcointalk. If nothing else, we've put the spotlight on how bad the shitposting situation is. This answers your question: That's partially why I sped up work on merit. I don't agree with using the trust system for pure spam; that's not what it was designed for.

|
How does one know if he/she is a merit source? It will say so on your merit page: For me (and other sources), it is. My merit page reads "You are a merit source. The next XXX merit you spend will come from your source rather than your sMerit balance. Merit spent from your source will come back in 30 days. Unused source merit is wasted. It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit."

I already don't like the way clicking on +merit takes you away from the thread. Can you please have it open in a new window?
Agree 100% with this. A new window, or maybe just code in a little box next to the post where you can type the Merit you want to give and then hit Give or something. Instead of posting you 100% agree, you should have given me 100 merit. Press your middle mouse button when trying to open a link to open it in a new window. Problem solved. I don't really see why clicking "+Merit" should behave differently than "Report to moderator". I indeed use my middle mouse button most of the time, but when I click it normally, I don't want to see a new Tab opened. So can I...continue posting, ooooor? Yes, keep posting I was just curious, nothing more. I won't sue you! Is this a bug? Deena (Activity: 84; Jr. Member) has 0 Merit. HoundRogerson (Activity: 70; Member)) has 10 Merit. I assume HoundRogerson's status is correct, and Deena's is wrong. Is this a bug or a leftover from the negative merit points earlier?

Legendary accounts don't need or care about merit requirement because they are already at the max rank. I want to recommend on the high position right there, What if the legendary accounts have a job or obligation to give merit to the lower ranks, 14 different accounts or user to every two weeks Forcing people to give points doesn't help improve post quality. Nonsense. Look at Lutpin: he went from 500 to over 1000 in less than a day. Granted, he's an exceptional individual, but it proves that the path to Legendary status is not impossible.
I'm curious to see which posts got points (Lutpin: care to share the list?). I'm mainly curious to see if it's (partially) used as a popularity contest so to speak. Next to no one got "merit" points. and the thread already has almost 40 pages. I received 6 and gave out 5 today, mainly for posts I had bookmarked, which means I value the content enough to read/use it again. I don't need to give away all my sMerit today, it'll be part of my normal forum use. If a post is worth it, I'll leave a merit. I wouldn't mind becoming a "source" in the future, and hand out a few merits per day. If it's his own account, he could have deleted the post to remove all (public) evidence. Isn't this similar to leaving trust for your own account? It will eventually end when people run out of sMerits, and don't earn new ones. Short-term it can be heavily abused indeed.

By the way as I see I can send sMerit to myself. I think you gotta fix that, looks like a bug.
Let me test that. Update: you cannot send merit to yourself:

The number of users who are "Merit sources" is likely to grow in the future. Every member needs something about 14 merit for period, something about 30 merit in month. It gives us 16250/30=542 members who can get amount of merit they need. That's really low number: there is more than 15K of Full Members for example. Even if only 10% of them are active, that's 1500+ accounts, 3 times more the system can support. And this is Full Members only. Users will have to compete for Merit points, and only the best posts get to earn them. That's not a bad thing, the majority of all users has a very low post quality, partially caused by account farmers who create many accounts. It is a good think that not all of them can become Full Member anymore.

Is there a way to generate a wallet address/private key pair with Byteball and use as cold storage?
Best way would be sending all funds to a textcoin and to delete that textcoin from the wallet after printing it. This is the only thing Tony ever wrote that I disagree with: a textcoin created in a hot wallet can by definition never become cold storage. You could install the Byteball wallet on an offline PC, and use that address as cold storage. But you can't do this for Blackbytes.

I think we should have the ability to unmerit a post If a post is worth negative Merit, you can simply click " Report to moderator" on the right-bottom of each post.

Your computer doesn't have enough disk space available to store the whole blockchain. It may still fit at the moment, but it will be full very soon. I see three possible solutions: 1. Get a bigger hard drive. 2. Use Bitcoin Core in pruned mode (add -prune=550 to the command line so it fits in less than 10 GB; after this you can't use it to load old wallet.dat files or import keys). 3. Instead of Bitcoin Core, use a wallet that doesn't require you to download the full blockchain (for instance Electrum).

Very cool feature theymos, I have high hopes this could actually reduce spam in the long run.
One more suggestion: would it be possible to make posts with many Merit points stand out a bit more? Maybe change the color of the date/time above the post, so it's easier to spot quality posts (and skip the rest)?

Tried using electrum 3.0.5 and 2.9.3 under linux and windows... if "ChipMixer" would allow 'newbies' to send PMs i could give more exact details
My account allows Newbies to PM me, but Newbies can only send 2 PMs per day (this was limited because of massive spam on the forum). But please, don't PM your private keys to me or anyone else, keep those details between you and ChipMixer's support only.

@everyone who became legendary this round right before the Merit system implementation: I hate you.
You're almost at 1000 already. I was just thinking I got lucky to be Legendary right before the Merit system was introduced! Unless people go through your old posts to give points, it'll take quite some time to go from 500 to 1000.

Password wise I am not sure If i am screwed, I think I recall making some insane password? that it was required. But when I open it in Bitcoin Core, then I have the option to encrypt it and the "Change password" is greyed out, which leads me to believe there is none??. This sounds about right. I plan to let Bitcoin Core download the whole blockchain after I get new harddrive (150~gig??? insane) While syncing, Bitcoin Core tells you how far it is behind. If you're sure your wallet was last used in 2011, it won't take that long to synchronize only a few years of blockchain (it was much smaller back then). So I suggest to just start it now. You can also add "-prune=550" at a command line option when you start Bitcoin Core, this will reduce the harddrive requirements to less than 10 gig (but you still need to download 160 gig). Good luck in your treasure hunt! Tip: ignore Newbies asking you to Skype them.
