241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / NFT, is it a fad or is there more to it? on: January 22, 2021, 03:20:22 AM
Hey community members, I hope you're doing well. I have been seeing NFTs getting more and more popular these days and from what I understand it's a form of non-fungible tokens on Ethereum blockchain, and in most cases it's some form of digital art. Is this the right understanding?

Every time I hear about NFT, I wonder to myself, is this a fad? I mean I don't get the appeal. If I buy a physical art, I can hang it on the wall, store it physically, and showcase it to others without going through much hassle. I also feel that physical forms of art retain their value really well and even increase in value over time.

I love that NFTs make it quite simple to prove and transfer ownership of the art pieces without much effort, but then again it's all digital art pieces on a blockchain and anyone can replicate them, albeit the non-original pieces will have a non-original hash — verifiable as inauthentic but works if your intention is to just display the art digitally. I can't seem to wrap my mind around why anyone would want to collect these NFT pieces. To me, the only use case for NFT I see is getting NFT combined with physical art. That way you can enjoy best of the both worlds, but maybe that's just me.

So my question to those who deal with or collect NFT is, can you please explain to me what the real appeal of NFT is?

Those who don't understand NFTs well are also welcome in this discussion. I am sure we can all get some learning out of this thread whether you are pro NFT or not for NFT. I for one am in neither camps and would love to broaden my horizons.

Looking forward to getting some comments and having a good discussion around NFTs.
242  Economy / Speculation / Re: FUDS are big Confirmations that were in a Bull Market!!!!!! on: January 22, 2021, 02:19:33 AM
FUDs have always been around be it bear or bull market. Let me introduce you to the amount of times Bitcoin has died over the years during different market periods: https://99bitcoins.com/bitcoin-obituaries/

After a while you start finding it rather humorous. FUDs are really the only form of entertainment we get in the Bitcoin world if you think about it Wink
243  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Up and Down how on: January 22, 2021, 02:12:13 AM
There are a lot of factors involved in the ups and downs of Bitcoin such as Supply/Demand, FOMO, FUD, Regulations, Speculation, Positive News, Corporate Interest, etc. It's simple (or rather complicated) economics. There's no definite answer, it just happens how it happens.
244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Selling All BTC for ETH this Bull Run on: January 22, 2021, 01:49:41 AM

I have heard that some high net worth individuals are unloading all their BTC for ETH.

Never base your decisions off of the decisions of "high net worth individuals". Do what feels right to you.

Reason Being is ETH tends to outperform BTC in Returns in Bull Runs for example in 2017 and 2020. And with ETH recently making a new ATH in USD feels very bullish and looks it may do the same on ETH/BTC pair.

However after the the run or when they feel the top is in they will return the Ethereum back into BTC and hodl.

I am not much of a trader rather a holder but you seem to have a valid point if we consider past market patterns. How do we know the previous market cycles are going to be repeated though? It's all a mere speculation given how the crypto currency markets work.

The way I see it is, BTC hit 200%+ of its ATH this year and ETH barely crossed its previous ATH. If you're a long term holder, stick with BTC. Granted you will lose the short term ETH rallies but you will be better off in the long run. Depends on how play the market really. Are you much of a holder or a trader? If you are a trader then you can try to time things and hope you land on the right side. If you're a long term holder then BTC is a more sound choice seeing recent past.

Do you think its a good idea to hold more ETH than BTC rn?

Short term, maybe. Long term, no. BTC is always a safer bet.
245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I need help with Bitcoin Cash on: January 21, 2021, 11:20:02 PM
I didn't find where I can get SEED phrase in Bitcoin.
For now, I just dumped private key in text... what should I do next?

I've used Coinomi wallet in past to sweep the BCH I got after the fork. That was long ago though and now there's also another fork by the name BSV that split from BCH chain. You might wanna claim both (and any other forks that happened, Bitcoin Diamond maybe? Not sure if that's still around but that gave me a good few bucks back when it forked).

I found this support article by Coinomi that provides details on how to split BCH and BSV before you import any keys. This step appears necessary if you want to claim both BCH and BSV due to there being no replay protection between the chains. Read this before you get started with Coinomi:

247  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Blockchain.com & HackerOne.com didn't pay a major bug bounty & fixed bug. on: January 21, 2021, 03:51:29 PM
Blockchain.com now claiming that the issue I reported was a bug... but... they knew about it prior to my report! LOL

Dude, if you have a website that you're advertising as military grade security and you know about a problem like that, but allow people to keep using millions and millions of dollars on your website... holy shit.

So either...

A:  They fucked me.

B:  They knowingly put their users at extreme risks and gave their users a false case of security due to their exchange design flaws.

Both are prime examples of corporate dishonest fuckery with shitty engineers covering their tracks and making excuses.

I bet it's 'A'. Them fixing the security issue same day as you reported it and then claiming they were aware of it doesn't add up.

Sorry I didn't follow the full thread, but did you ever proceed with the legal action against them? I am not sure you stand any legal recourse in this case but just curious how it turned out if you did.
248  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: txfee.org neat bitcoin fees estimator and tx checker on: January 21, 2021, 03:34:56 PM
he just need to make the API call again using a setTimout or setInterval

Code:
var intervalID = window.setInterval(function_name, 30000);

Alternatively, if they're using one of the latest UX frameworks like React, they could just make the values component's state properties and update the state at a certain interval.

Lol.. I don't think the video is hidden but still it's hilarious. Biden's rally streams also faced similar fate.

Here's a recent auction:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5307691.0

I might have overpaid a little but I wanted to add some peeled Cas to my collection and didn't wanna pass the opportunity.

You can do an auction with similar prices and see how it plays out. I might be in if the price is right Cheesy

Hey there, welcome to the forum. At least you kept the Casascius and now it's worth exponentially more than your original investment. Tongue

Can you please post a picture of the front/back of the coin with today's date and your forum username?

Perhaps also update your original post with more details like auction end date/time. You can look at the auction guidelines and tips here: Auctions - Guidelines and Tips!

Good luck with the auction!

257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Could ether hit 100k? on: January 19, 2021, 06:13:57 PM
It could if Ethereum is proven to be a more valuable asset than Gold.

Gold's market cap:                         10,000,000,000,000 USD
ETH market cap @ $100k a piece:   11,431,777,000,000 USD

But will it happen? I am doubtful of that. Perhaps 1/10th of that would be more realistic?
258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PAPER WALLET on: January 19, 2021, 06:05:28 PM
Any modern wallet will generate a 12-24 words seed for you. Copy that seed and the address down on paper and that will technically be a paper wallet. Do seed generation on an offline machine and add a passphrase to ensure maximum security.

You could also print your wallet address down as a QR code if you're feeling fancy. Smiley
259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest Bitcoin fork is our destiny on: January 19, 2021, 04:00:52 PM
More or less all of us aware that there are dead bitcoins (wrong transfers, forgotten private keys, etc), i read that there are almost 3m bitcoins dead and every year bitcoins are dying, so i think there will be a critic number of dead bitcoins, if we reach it, there must be a correction for the dead bitcoins, maybe the new fork will allow re-mining the lost bitcoins. But the problem is how can we say an acount is dead? We have to find an answer for this question.

I think that a Bitcoin wallet can be considered "dead",if there are no incoming or outdoing transactions from that wallet in a period of 10 years. We need to put a longer time frame, because there are many long term HODLers.10 years seems enough to me.Anyway, this is just a suggestion.I don't think that such fork will ever be created in the future.
I don't like the idea of "re-mining" all lost or dead coins, because it will increase the Bitcoin supply and some miners and developers might find a way to abuse the system.

Introducing arbitrary rules such as this will do more harm than good. 10 years is simply not enough time in the grand scheme of things. Try 100 years and even that will not be enough time. There are many long term holders who have unspent UTXOs from years ago, in form of cold storage and more notably in form of physical collectibles such as Casascius coins. I would not consider those "dead" Bitcoins.

See, if something like this were to happen, it would have to be introduced in one of the first versions of Bitcoin and not 12 years after Bitcoin's inception. You just can't introduce these arbitrary rules like these and expect people to take you seriously.
