241  Other / Meta / Re: Newsletter plagiarism? on: April 13, 2024, 01:09:22 PM
If there is no link to an actual source, then you just mention that the information originates from newsletter X and put the quoted part in quote tags. Or, if you incorporate the quoted text in a sentence, use quotes and italicized text with the source information at the bottom of your post. By not doing anything of what I just wrote, you are making it look like it's you who is saying those things. And since that's not the case, you are plagiarizing.

Instead of just copy/pasting something from another source, why not add your personal opinion on it? Write your thoughts and whether or not you agree with what you read. Explain how you understood it and if something could be improved, removed altogether. Just copy/pasting the information without anything else looks like a low-effort post.

Ehhhh ... Boy, why are you not part of the cycling club shit?
I guess I am not a high-quality cycler to be invited to a premium club like that. I'll have to cycle harder. I can always start identifying as a member of the merit cycling club and change my pronouns. That's popular in this time and age. Then, I will finally get the merit recognition I deserve.

I have figured out a long time ago that paying people for backlinks is a waste of time (and money), so this thing is going to have to grow organically.
Anyone who writes content that is supposed to get a high rank on Google knows there is on-page and off-page optimization. Your on-page content has to answer the questions that led visitors to your site. Off-page optimization is backlinks and guest posts. I have heard of companies spending tens of thousands of dollars per month on backlinks. I would say they are absolutely necessary if you are creating content in an industry where it's very difficult to get organic backlinks. They can also backfire horribly and make Google punish your site and restrict it from appearing in search results if their algorithms conclude you paid for those links.
244  Other / Meta / Re: i was just curious... on: April 13, 2024, 07:12:53 AM
I think that if you had a list of 100 early adopters who also wrote on Bitcointalk (actually the earlier versions of the forum), there would be 0-1 user per 100 who still drops by from time to time to write something. It was a different time back then. Most of them won't have many reasons to remain active.

Also, you shouldn't think that any OG is now a multi-millionaire just due to the fact they were early adopters. I don't doubt for a second that many sold when their portfolios made the first x10, let alone x50, x500, etc. The bags they were holding might not have been enough to put them into the millionaire's club.

I'm happy with how the merit system is working so far, but in certain cases I think your idea has some worth too. This doesn't happen in most cases, but if the OP doesn't want merit on his thread then he can create his own local rule as a warning. Asking admin to disable the merit function on certain thread seems possible, but I don't know if admins have ever agreed to it in the past.
Are you sure they can do that? I have never heard or seen that merits can't be sent in certain threads or to a particular individual. I don't remember ever seeing a discussion about it either. Besides, OPs suggestion isn't about restricting merits for the whole thread and all the users posting in it. It's about preventing the thread starter to get merited because they don't want to/don't need the merits.

And then we have been thought that merit will decay and so we have to spend it the way we wanted, whether we agree or disagree with the thread.
sMerits don't decay and become useless and non-spendable. There are no time limits to the merits in your account. It's only source merits that decay if the allocation isn't completely depleted in a 1-month cycle.

I know that many casinos have disabled or limited the faucet to only "loyal" users. There were abuses like putting faucet rewards on high odds, so rarely but wins did happen.
I am sure people have abused faucets in various ways to try and withdraw the money that comes from them, but what you just described isn't one in my opinion. To me, that sounds more like the casinos are trying to minimize that players can successfully win a high enough amount they could eventually withdraw. If I claimed some coins from a faucet, why shouldn't I be allowed to wager them any way I want, including betting the money on any odds I am comfortable with? Just get rid of it altogether if you are tying it to conditions that stop making sense.
247  Other / Meta / Re: AI generated content by newbies on: April 12, 2024, 04:00:32 PM
I was exactly using one of the sapling.ai services you listed. I surprise how he showed you that the text was written by a human being. To me, he showed me exactly what is depicted in the picture. I just checked, the result is the same. Here's the link https://sapling.ai/ai-content-detector/6fc838e1ded0328166a01e86611debff (expires after 3 Days).
I guess the detection algorithm is quite bad. Just to check, I tried it on my own post that I made in this thread. At least it provided a good result in my case. My post is 0.1% fake, meaning 99.9% isn't AI generated.
Lucius is probably a hybrid. Part human, part robot. His most recent post is about 6% AI-generated. Grin The human part of him wrote most of it. Can't help but laugh at that.

@Lucius I think it's the long sentences that make the algorithm classify your post as AI-written. Try to shorten them in meaningful short sentences. You don't have to post them again. Just play around with it if you are interested to see the results.

Evo malo više o tome hakiranju trezor walleta, tko nije gledao video.
https://youtu.be/dT9y-KQbqi4

251  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [GUIDE] Best Crypto Investment Opportunities for Passive Income -2024 on: April 12, 2024, 03:10:34 PM
This thread is a good information but in the past, Pmalek made a thread about faucets on casinos (I think it is helpful for gamblers).

List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets
The time of crypto casino faucets is long gone I think. I haven't checked my own thread in a long time, but I don't think anything has changed for the better. Some of the casinos might have even dropped their faucets or decreased the possible rewards. What you can hope for is a few cents. One exception is those casinos who have lucky wheels that you can spin and perhaps win a significant amount if you are lucky.
252  Other / Meta / Re: Is gambling problem or anything related to addiction is an off-topic? on: April 11, 2024, 03:52:01 PM
It might be a new way the admins have implemented to battle all the spam that comes from the gambling boards, making it close to unreadable because 8/10 posts are completely useless. My first thought was that discussions about gambling addiction should be in Gambling Discussion, but not if it only creates a spam fest where we keep going around in circles without anyone saying anything of value.

Creating such threads is a trick used by those who don't know what to write in the gambling boards, but are required to do so because their campaign manager wants 5-10 posts written there weekly. Now, they will have to apply themselves a bit more.
253  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 11, 2024, 03:41:02 PM
I think this is one of the many merits requests that I think Theymos wouldn’t even have a second thought about. The Admins/Mods are regularly forum users aside their extra works on keeping the forum in order. They need merits just like you do to grow not in rank but at least see that their work is being appreciated or acknowledged when they creates threads. You should also know that merit earning isn’t all about growing ranks alone too but also you have Smerits to share to other members to encourage them more.
Another thing. Many staff members participate in signature campaigns just like regular users. Campaign managers have rules that require those who want to participate to earn an X amount of merits in the last X days. If the mods didn't get enough merits or received much less than other quality members, they won't be the manager's first choice despite their forum status.
254  Other / Meta / Re: AI generated content by newbies on: April 11, 2024, 03:30:48 PM
The question is, does the current forum software support adding any automated checker for AI content? I don't think it does.
Using an AI bot to write posts instead of you is a modern type of plagiarism. You can't find a source from where the text was copied/stolen from, but it still fulfills the requirements of being considered plagiarized.

1. You used someone else's thoughts. It doesn't matter if it's a real person writing on a website or AI.
2. You didn't credit the original source.
255  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 11, 2024, 03:21:46 PM
If introduced, it's not going to be a feature that many members will want to use. Whether you need the merits or not, it's still nice to receive them. It's one of the ways to acknowledge someone's effort. I don't think you'll find many people who don't want that acknowledgement. Also, if you don't care about merits, than you shouldn't care if someone gives them to you or not. I don't think theymos will consider adding this feature.
256  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I discuss tech issues for the Lightning Network? on: April 11, 2024, 03:10:40 PM
I've got a spare VPN hosting plan, and I was contemplating running a lightning node on it. However, it looks as if I will have to run a full Bitcoin node alongside it, so the storage cost would rule that out.
How about running a pruned node instead and determining how much storage space you want to give to the node yourself. I remember reading a long time ago that it was possible to do with the lightning network as well, but it required some extra configuration. People who know more about this than I do could certainly help you.
257  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Running a node dumb question on: April 10, 2024, 04:18:59 PM
Does anyone here know how to get my computer's approximate power consumption while running a node? My wife keeps asking me why my computer is always open 24/7. She is already threatening me about our electricity bill.  Cheesy
Tell her not to use the hair dryer so often or empty the water heater every time she takes a shower if you don't mind sleeping on the couch for a few night. Grin

I don't think it's that easy to calculate. If you are serious about it, you might need something like a watt meter. There are also third-party software you can run to measure the consumption for you. Like with anything, use them at your own risk.

Here is just one article I found on the subject:

258  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1xBet Biggest Scam and Violation of Terms on: April 10, 2024, 04:04:19 PM
Some say they are two different companies but some people linked both are the same. They anyhow have been known to have scammed people so whether they are one or two different companies, they are both scams still.
They are two different casinos. 1xBit is the more notorious one of them. If you go to the forum's scam accusation sub, there are numerous threads with users complaining about different issues with 1xBit. It's never 1xBet. 1xBet is a fiat casino and sportsbook. It's a pretty well-known brand that spends a lot of money on advertisement. If you watch football, you might have noticed it's the official gambling partner of the Italian Serie A. You first see an ad and pop up of 1xBet before you can access the official league website. But like you said, they are connected. It's just that one is worse than the other.
259  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1xBet Biggest Scam and Violation of Terms on: April 10, 2024, 08:30:06 AM
1xBet and 1xBit have been known scams for years now on this forum. There are hundreds of affected and innocent players that have lost their money there and have not received their withdrawals because of reasons they invented.

However, when it comes to gambling from restricted countries, it's also the player's job to make sure that's not happening. You knew that gambling in Iran is against the laws of your country, and you did it anyway. You knew that 1xBet doesn't allow Iranians on their site, but you played there anyway.

Both the casino and yourself are at fault here for different reasons. It might be hard for you to hear that or I might sound unfair, but that's the way it is.
260  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin withstand attacks by state-level agents? on: April 10, 2024, 08:14:47 AM
There is no easy way to attack Bitcoin and take control of it - become the powerhouse that makes the most money from it. That investment wouldn't pay off in the end.

It's a bit different if your goal is try to destroy Bitcoin or inflict as much damage to it as possible. In that case, the most vulnerable category would be miners. You would need a global action on a massive scale against mining companies. Stop their operations, confiscate their hardware, and stop the production of new blocks and confirmation of transactions.

Bitcoin can recover from that with a very bloody nose. The mining difficulty would drop, making other machines suitable to take over the process from those previously confiscated. But than the global police would have more powerful hardware than the honest miners.

All this is sci-fi and will never happen. Our leaders can't even make up their mind if it's ok to kill 35.000 innocent people or not, let alone come to an agreement and organize something on a massive scale like an attempt to destroy Bitcoin.

...not mentioning that since those billions would be taxpayers' money, if the government is a democracy, it will be the last thing (use of money) they'll approve before getting changed and the preorders canceled.
That taxpayer money could be used much more wisely. For example, on fighter jets and massive bombs intended to be dropped on a small piece of land. You know, for democracy and preserving freedom.
