241  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Flat Rate mining on: August 19, 2013, 03:16:29 AM
Some apartment and condo buildings here in Toronto area still offer "free" electricity.  There is no actual bill because the total hydro bill is divided over all owners of the building as part of the maintenance fee (in the case of a condo), or with an apartment its just part of your rent and they dont have actual meters on each unit.  However this is dissapearing rapidly as more buildings convert to a per-unit actual hydro bill

Change the numbers until it's profitable!

If only it was that easy :-)
244  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Expected monthly difficulty increase? on: August 15, 2013, 10:25:38 PM
It lets you change the numbers to your liking where they don't really let you change the data.

It does let you change the data. Almost every variable on that page is configurable.  Also you can set a fixed difficulty increase vs percent and so on

You may find this useful.  I took a lot of time to make it.

Hope it helps you in your decision making Smiley

To be honest your sheet is nice, but http://mining.thegenesisblock.com is much better.  But really the important part is not these tools, but rather an analysis of the difficulty increase, because at the end of the day all these calculators will do is spit out numbers based on the input.  Need to think more deeply about what numbers make the most sense to plug in
246  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Expected monthly difficulty increase? on: August 15, 2013, 05:56:26 PM
Today is the 9th of August, not yet the middle of the month, and difficulty is 37.3 (+6.1)

Well today is middle of the month and the difficulty is 50mill.
247  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BitCoin mining difficulty forecast spreadsheet I made on Google Docs. on: August 15, 2013, 05:36:39 PM
Wait up OP, the BTC difficulty in your spreadsheet in November will be 20 BILLION???
I think that isn't possible...

According to CURRENT growth rates, it will be 5 billion by next year
http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/a96771e2ea

I dont think that is possible either.  Someone tell me what is the realistic upper limit on the difficulty (at current BTC price)??

This calculator is pretty good
http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/

it is using past data to estimate difficulty and plot profit.  Currently its 43% increase for last 30 days
251  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: warranty? on: August 05, 2013, 03:51:07 AM

What's the warranty on this? I didn't see any details on the site, and I tried reading through 9 pages of discussion to find something
I'll be posting our T&C on the site soon - basically refund policy is 100% refund, warranty is 60 days manufacturer defect, replacement.  BTC refunds are done based on USD value NOT BTC-BTC.  I don't support transferring orders.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks for the response. Smiley  So what happens if it dies after 60 days?  Am I stuck with an oversized paper weight?

253  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Trying to mine on AMD card whilst playing on nvidia card on: August 04, 2013, 08:28:53 AM
I figured out, it works if I have a monitor plugged into both cards, on boot.
254  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Trying to mine on AMD card whilst playing on nvidia card on: August 03, 2013, 09:31:06 PM
Pindis, can you explain what you did? I want to do this but cgminer keeps trying to mine on the nvidia and giving me a hard time saying the number of OpenCL drivers dont match or something
255  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Best BIOS for Mining on HD6950 on: August 03, 2013, 09:22:39 PM
Thanks for the response. I found I can use the "powertune" option to slightly reduce the voltage.  -6 Powertune seems to give the most reduction for least loss of hashrate

Boring is stable.  Stable is good.
257  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Best BIOS for Mining on HD6950 on: July 24, 2013, 08:41:58 AM
I have two of these VisionTek 6950s

They use 1.10V each and do about 300-400khs each (scrypt)

I have the stock BIOS

I was wondering if someone had some suggestions to optimize my power usage?  It seems 1.10V is really high.  Could I not somehow lower it to around 1V? Stock bios doesn't seem to allow me to go below 1.10V, so I probably need to flash it.  I tried the flashing to the sapphire 7970, but trying to mine just gave HW ERRORS so that BIOS didnt work on my (non-reference) card

Cpu mining is a losing game.  Get a decent ATI GPU

Litecoin requires a decent gpu as well.  Check the wiki page for comparison.
