242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 25, 2011, 02:51:20 PM
We've committed several changes to Branch 0.3.24.1.

These changes include a switchovr to new difficulty adjustment algorithm at block 20055. The current block count is 19960 so we should hit this count in about ~2 weeks. After that, difficulty retargets every 24hours with max increments of 10% and max decrements at 400% (uses Solidcoin's code). The aim is to achieve a much more consistent block rate.

On 09/01/11 00:12:51 UTC (in one week), the client will switch over to a new Ixcoin-specific pchMessageStart peering marker from the original Bitcoin marker. This change was recommended by a few although we haven't had reports of any issues with this yet. Better safe than sorry.

This will mean that all Ixcoin users need to update their client within 1 week. After that, their clients will likely not be able to communicate to other updated nodes on the p2p network due to the new marker. Blocks would also be rejected as they wouldn't include the new difficulty algo.

We wanted to have the marker and diff algo switchover together at a particular blockcount, but this might not work if some peers have switched over to the new marker and cannot update blocks on other peers using the old marker.

The changes are detailed here : https://github.com/ixcoin/ixcoin/commit/df30a348d0f914412a5a248f282afdd7ade95dbd

The IRC host is also now changed: https://github.com/ixcoin/ixcoin/commit/d8808bdf8eb109a25389b1745069955115c2940a

Any comments/reservations/suggestions would be appreciated at https://ixcoin.org/forum/index.php?topic=71.msg358. Anybody who can test this code, please try and get back to me. If we don't get any objections to the new code, we'll upload the new builds very soon.

Thanks!

Translation: "Once I've gotten all of coinhunter's code copied over and the current difficulty adjustment completes in about 25 days. Come back to mining ixcoins because ixcoins has much more to offer than all alternate block chains. Come back because we've fixed everything. I.E. COPY, PASTE, RECOMPILE. See you guys then"

so my buddy has http://www.legitreviews.com/article/513/1/ board and is wondering how hard it would be to crossfire 2 5870s on it with a pciex1 adapter to a pciex16 doing crossfire. is this even possible. i told him i hear of some people doing stuff like that. does it lower hashrates if even possible. what would you guys recommend. should he just buy a new board? also we are looking at boards that run 2 pciex16 slots one is running at x8 and one is running at x4 is that going to be an issue? please advise. much thanks Smiley

Running at x1 is fine for mining, but don't xfire them, it lowers your hashing speed.
249  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how does difficulty work exactly? on: August 25, 2011, 03:59:07 AM

252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Release of open source point of sale system (w/ video) on: August 23, 2011, 04:58:53 PM
Hi there! Today I'm releasing the first version of a simple Bitcoin point of sale application. It was mainly written to demonstrate the use of the green address feature, but can also be used independently of that. It is written in Python and works in combination with a standard Bitcoin client. It is targeted at standard PC hardware, e.g. laptop (used by merchant) + external monitor (facing the customer).

See a video of the system in action at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o84SfChQ-S8 .

More details and explanations, the code and a number of screenshots can be found on the project's page on GitHub: https://github.com/javgh/greenaddress-pos-tools .

Looking forward to your feedback!

looks sweet Smiley

255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [IDEA] Australian Bitcoin Conference/Expo on: August 23, 2011, 02:41:16 PM
Well ..for an idea born only an hour ago i am impressed !

Count me in - in fact; anything i can do to help coordinate this is available.

In order to make it happen we DO NEED IDEAS AND INPUT ..what should be there? What is our purpose (except good booze and Bitcoin Chicks Wink )

I personally would love to see Bitcoin in Australia promoted throughout the entire process - We all know how much Australian Media love to cover a "Good Old-Fashioned Convoy" so am happy to spearhead the Canberra/Sydney contingent.

"How To Build A Rig"

"Bitcoin2Web Hackathon"

"Mine-A-Thon"

Just ideas Wink

Great work BitcoinAustralia!

TTFN - TaTa For now!

Yep, if this goes ahead, Tiggr will be running the show.

Yes

Alright cool, what state you in?

Quote

Yes I would like to go. I don't understand why you are suggesting a bus pickup from Perth though. That's an insanely long drive. i'd much rather fly.
Probably just organise the conference and let people organise their transportation. Maybe have it somewhere near accommodation so it could be a a couples of days of conference and a couple of nights of going out reveling.

Yeah, most people will probably get their own transport, but alot of the guys in WA already know eachother, and thought it would be fun, plus a "convoy" across australia to get to it would get some media attention - which would be good.
