241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin took over.... on: February 07, 2015, 02:10:54 AM
... what good do you think it would do humanity?

Critical thinking time - put your thinking caps on. Anyone and everyone is free to answer as they see fit, but I am really interested in points that:

a) Give reasons why it will. It will be good for humans because.....
b) Have solid reasoning, saying it will get rid of the bankers is not solid reasoning. I would class a better answer as Bitcoin will remove banks which will have this effect and that, which in turn would benefit humanity because of x and y.

I am going to try my hardest not to disagree with anyone on this thread, but I may ask you to justify further. Your choice if you do or not.

Why? I am interested....
Do you want to know the biggest one? It's more sanitary. Since it it's not physically there you cannot sneeze on it and give it to somebody, moreover it would allow a clerk to basically not handle the money and then handle the food which is currently the worldwide practice, which is unsanitary.

I have handled such seriously dirty fiat, where the paper has darkened so much, to the point where I am disgusted just by looking at it.

How about another one, you always pay the exact amount, no physical coins to dangle in your pocket. The register would display the exact amount you have to pay, you scan with whatever device the future has and you immediately pay the EXACT amount. Sure you could do this with a credit card, but by the time you take it out from your wallet, input it into the machine, type your pin and wait 60 seconds(I assure that is how long it takes for a VISA transaction to get processed over here, increasing the time to wait by all customers).

Consider this probably rather rare scenario, where kids are MORE LIKELY to choke on coins that are real VS those that are digital.

There, Bitcoin prevented possible deaths twice, once from disease, twice from a child choking to death or worse, having to have surgery to remove a coin stuck somewhere in his body. Any surgery no matter how routine can be fatal. Or how about people with HIV and no immune system?

Another thing I can think off, is that, when decentralized exchanges appear, they can prove 100% that they hold X amount of bitcoin, and they could be designed in such a way as to not work as a fractional-reserve bank.

So, let's quickly find their address and start digging.
243  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you use IRC? (why or why not?) on: February 05, 2015, 04:51:59 AM
there is a channel for any project, distribution, filesystem, or topic you might need to consult someone on. I don't read them all the time but its invaluable resource when an idea or question pops in your head.
+1

It's alive and kicking and the fastest way to get help with numerous projects, including Bitcoin.

Why no SSL?
245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin bubblemarkets can lead to lasting damage in the brain on: February 04, 2015, 01:20:44 AM
Look at all the permabulls. Bitcoin goes down for 14 months nonstop, they have been fishing for 'THE BOTTOM' since it was on 800$, all trends are broken, yet they don't become tired of it.
We are in a violent bearmarket and some people seem to be incapable to acknowledge it.
I can only conclude: bitcoin bubblemarkets leaves lasting damage in the brain.

Thoughts?
What is it to you what people believe in?

Overnight rise is the new went down.
247  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The plain text password for JSON-RPC connections issue... on: January 30, 2015, 08:43:31 PM
Why not specify a password hash instead? And then just check if the hash of the password entered matches the one in the config file? But in the end, if the password is submitted via JSON-RPC/REST as plaintext, packet sniffing on the computer would do the job just as well.
248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AT vs. Ethereum - what direction are we headed in? on: January 28, 2015, 05:51:47 PM
A bit misleading when you say mainnet but it's an alt.

Not sure why that is misleading - we have never said that it is running on Bitcoin.

(so you are saying that alts don't have mainnet's at all?)

I don't think Ethereum is going to be launching on Bitcoin either (or do have evidence that they are going to do that?).

Well, I didn't say alts don't have mainnet, but it's still a bit misleading.

In any case, I personally have no idea nor any desire to find out what Ethereum is. As for your project, what exactly is it useful for(to the point where it is necessary to create a new high-level programming language)?

250  Other / Off-topic / Re: Isis Locker - Folder Protection. on: January 27, 2015, 10:08:30 AM
After a cursory browse with JetBrains DotPeek it seems the program does nothing malicious however do not take this as an endorsement nor a guarantee.

The software appears to have a hard-coded username/password as mentioned which is admin/12345 and moves files in/out of a hidden folder to facilitate lock/unlock.
Which would mean the file could easily be updated(the exe) with malicious code at any point in time.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In case you missed the coinbase countdown on: January 26, 2015, 03:48:11 PM

UPgrade your CamStudio to Snagit !!  Same company and WAY better program.

-B-

Thanks for the info, I'll try Snagit. I'm not super pleased w/ CamStudio, freezes a lot... CamStudio was the only free one I could find that didn't try to install malware during install.
If a program is trying to install malware, I wouldn't trust it's publisher.

It reacted poorly to the to the moon animation? I suppose it was a bit cheesy, for something that must be professionally done.

It's just another exchange with a few extra's. The lay-out looks amazing, though.

I guess people expected something spectacular to happen  Cheesy
I think people don't know what they want.

You are seeing patterns where there are none. Not unless it is a self-fulfilling pattern.

256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: D wave and the death of Bitcoin? on: January 24, 2015, 01:35:36 PM
From here, it makes complete sense to send your stash to a newly created paper wallet that have never been used to spent from the address, in effect makes the public key never been exposed to before on the blockchain.
But dude, when you transfer coins to an address, everyone will know if you like it or not.
It is a feature of the blockchain.
You cannot hide your coins.

Actually no, you send coins to the ripemd160 hash of a public key, until you spend said coins the public key is not revealed.

So how long before the NSA can crack Bitcoin?
Another 'noob' who did not understand D-wave did not make a true quantum computer, and posted a sensational title in an attempt to drive price down.

I've said this before, SSDs are unreliable. If the thing cannot be used for 10 years without any wear, it's as useless as...incomparable.
259  Other / Meta / Re: Selling carded/stolen accounts allowed on this forum? on: January 21, 2015, 09:56:31 AM
It's not allowed but merely suspecting without any proof that items are being purchased with fraudulent cards likely isn't enough for us to remove threads.
I say guilty until proven otherwise.
