241  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: March 21, 2015, 06:49:51 AM
Got my first time payout Smiley

Anyway, question!
Why I need to point the payout to address on bit-x, while you send them through normal transaction?
What wwould happen if I changed it into my normal address?
I think Bitx is trying to encourage those enrolled into the campaign to try out their trading platform as most won't bother if it is sent to their wallet. I'm not sure as to what will happen if it's changed to a normal one.

I know one thing that would happen is that many more folks would be interested in their campaign.  I, for one, wrote this off entirely when I realized all the onerous hoops they wanted us to jump through in order to do this contract work.  I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.

To get payment signing up for bit-x is not a whole lot of work. I found it easy personally.

Only thing I can see that might make some is another campaign that is one most of us know that is paying a tad more per post.  But they are limited to 100 to.

I don't want to be accused of derailing this thread, so I'll only say that there are (or at least were at last time I checked) serious privacy issues when trying to sign up for bit-x (telephone number).  This has been discussed ad nauseam already, so I'll just leave it at that (unless there's ben some change, in which case I'm very interested in hearing about it).

I don't want to inform that you can buy a google voice number for only 3 dollars or less (if the privacy is the problem).

I'm not implying that the problems are insurmountable, only that they're onerous enough to cause me (and quite a few others, I think) to opt for another campaign with less issues.

Not sure if it's different in other countries but where I'm from (New Zealand), it's very easy to get a sim card for $1-2. While it won't have a balance so you can't make phone calls from it unless you top it up with some funds, it does have its own number and more importantly, it can receive text messages and phone calls. No ID required. Just take a one or two dollar coin to the supermarket or the corner dairy and you're good to go. In fact, I probably have over 10 sim cards by now.
242  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] COINUT.COM ★ Signature Campaign ★ Pay per post ★ Weekly ★ on: March 21, 2015, 06:42:12 AM
After reading rules of this campaign I have to say that payment they are offering is really not competitive at all. Basically to receive full payment you need to post 130 post per month (100 if you are full member). And you will get: 0.06 Full member, senior 0.12BTC and hero 0.15BTC for. How people can choose
op's campaign when bitmixer and bit-x are available for everyone to join? Or if you are seasonal poster you could join bitstars or lucky bit campaign, where you earn 0.1 BTC for 50 posts per month?

Bitmixer.io isn't accepting new members and BIT-X requires you to register an account with them and verify your phone number. While this one requires you to make an account with them too and make at least one trade, that wouldn't be a problem for someone who is already using the site.

As far as the rates go, they seem pretty average. 0.001 BTC per post is usually considered to be the standard rate for senior members and 0.0005-0.0008 BTC is around the average rate for full members. Bitmixer.io only pays 0.0007 BTC for senior members and up since they have a flat rate for all ranks so this one actually pays slightly higher per post if you are a senior or hero/legendary member..

EDIT: It looks like Bitmixer.io's sig campaign is open again. Didn't realize that.
243  Other / Meta / Re: What is Bitcoin-Forums.net? on: March 21, 2015, 06:00:13 AM
Looks like the mirror is about an hour or two behind too. This thread hasn't shown up yet for example but posts made just a few hours ago are there.

It is now. They may have heard you! Wink

P.S. My post shown up when I looked just after I posted here. Are you sure it wasn't there?

Edit: Or the fetching of threads will take a little time but once it is fetched, posts will be synced fastly?

I hope you didn't use your real username/password.

No, I tried to login with an account I used early 2014(newbie).

Hmm... It looks like this thread is now there but their meta board is still about 2 hours behind so this thread doesn't show up unless you directly link to it.

I'll see how long it takes for them to cache this post.

1 min... Nope.
2 min... Nope.
3 min... Nope.
4 min... Nope (but it is showing when I click on "see all posts by this user")
5 min... Yup. It's there. Still says "3 mins" though.

EDIT: I think it only caches it if you request it in a certain way. So simply refreshing a page won't make it show up by itself. Huh

This is so weird...  I am afraid to even look at it based on these other responses.  hahha  What is it purpose you think?

Beats me. It doesn't really seem to be a phishing site because their URL doesn't look anything like ours. It doesn't seem to have been made for ad revenue either because there aren't any ads there to profit from. Probably someone just thought it would be nice to have a 1:1 mirror of the site for whatever reason.
244  Other / Meta / Re: What is Bitcoin-Forums.net? on: March 21, 2015, 05:47:56 AM
It could be a phishing site, but I don't think any phishing site would use a URL like "bitcoin-forums.net". Something like "bitcointaik.org" would be more likely IMO.

I doubt that it is made for users who are not able to visit this forum and I haven't clicked on the link (scared to do it) but if you say it looks exactly the same, it might as well be a phishing site.

There was another similar site called Data321.net which was a mirror of Bitcointalk specifically aimed at Chinese users who might not otherwise have access to this forum. I posted a thread about that one here. Thing is, that one had a disclaimer at the bottom which once translated, explained its purpose but this one doesn't seem to have any message so it's a bit of a mystery as to why it exists at all.

I tried running a WHOIS but it's got privacy protection so that wasn't much help.

Nothing works there. I tried to login, search and password reset, all I got is "Not Found!" So it is most probably a phishing site, I might be wrong though.

Edit: Their sites load faster than this forum. It is also possible they cloned this, blocked all features and save all the threads/posts.

Edit-2: They ain't saving posts like Bitcointa.lk, my deleted post wasn't showing in that site and also, you are right! All links which contain "bitcointalk.org" are replaced with "bitcoin-forums.net".

I hope you didn't use your real username/password.

That being said, it's nice to have a mirror of this forum I guess. When the forums crashed earlier this year and some of the posts were deleted, a mirror would have been very handy.

I did some quick tests and it seems like they pull the pages on demand and then cache it afterwards.

Looks like the mirror is about an hour or two behind too. This thread hasn't shown up yet for example but posts made just a few hours ago are there.

EDIT: Different pages seem to show different times. Their copy of the meta board hasn't been updated in hours but the Bitcoin discussion board has. Can't see any ads either so it doesn't look like they're trying to make any profit from it.
245  Other / Meta / What is Bitcoin-Forums.net? on: March 21, 2015, 04:56:21 AM
Recently I've been seeing a new site that seems to function as an exact mirror of Bitcointalk. The only real (visible) difference is that links containing "bitcointalk.org" are converted to "bitcoin-forums.net" but otherwise it's exactly the same. It shows up in Google search results but logging onto Bitcointalk.org doesn't mean that you'll be logged onto Bitcoin-Forums.net which can get a bit confusing if you have both sites open on different tabs since they look identical.

I'm too scared to log on there using my account here but interestingly, using an invalid username/password combination doesn't display the same message on Bitcoin-Forums.net. Instead, only the words "Not found!" shows up.

Anyone know what this is? Is it a phishing site? Is it a way for people living in countries that have banned Bitcointalk to access the forums?
246  Economy / Services / Re: DADICE.com Signature Campaign - The BEST Campaign Yet | OPEN! | JOIN THE FUN! on: March 21, 2015, 04:31:19 AM
Just a heads up. Not sure if it's been already mentioned but your signature for senior members might look a bit weird on some computers:

Is it using non-standard characters? I'm using a standard non-modified English (US) installation of Windows XP SP3.
247  Economy / Services / Re: A small survey for 0.005 BTC on: March 21, 2015, 04:16:34 AM
Oh wow I received the payment too although I totally forgot about it so I was wondering why there was an unknown payment in my wallet! At first, I thought it was for my PM campaign but I could see that it wasn't the reason so I was going to make a thread about it. Decided to do a Google search on the transaction ID and this thread popped up!

Thanks OP! I'll be looking forward to checking out your site in the future.

I am just a Member and I haven't trade options on your site and I am having a sig. now so I can't join Sad
But I checked Op's campaign and it is nothing special. To be honest payment he is offering is below average. You will do better if you enroll to bit-x when you reach full member status. Or if you don't post that much to some campaigns with this rule - 50 posts per month for 0.5 BTC for full members - as there are couple of these on our forum.

I wouldn't say it's below average but it's not above average either. Typically senior members get about 0.001 BTC per post and full members get 0.0005-0.0008 BTC per post. DaDice and Bit-X have higher than average rates but there are many sig campaigns that pay lower too (e.g. 777Coin).

We are holding a signature campaign. Could you participate?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=992660.0

I think this rule of yours:

Quote
1. You must have bought or sold at least 1 binary option on on Coinut. This is put in place to ensure that you know what you are advertising.

Is what's holding many people from joining your campaign.

Btw, got my payment for the survey. Thx

It's not too uncommon for sites to force signature campaign members to register an account (e.g. Cryptomine.io used to do this and BIT-X and 777Coin currently does this) although the requirement that you actually have to use the site is far less common but still probably not completely unheard of. I agree that it does limit the pool of eligible members somewhat.
248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 4chan on a blockchain? on: March 20, 2015, 04:38:58 AM
So a blockchain jam-packed with child porn, pictures of chicks with dicks, and forever alone rants.  I'll pass.

Just because it happens to be a chan-style imageboard doesn't necessarily mean that it has to adopt chan culture. It could be a platform for people living in oppressive regimes to discuss their thoughts and opinions as well as a platform for organizations such as WikiLeaks. It could be transformed into a microblog or an image gallery or a forum too. The purpose would be similar to Tor but sites on Tor rely on centralized servers which can be shut down.

There would be separate boards for different topics so it would make little sense for someone to post a forever alone rant or child porn or pre-op transsexuals on a board about politics or photography or religion for example since their thread would just get ignored and buried.
249  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WikiScams :: Information about Bitcoin and crypto scams on: March 20, 2015, 04:16:55 AM
You sure ain't gonna get to a situation where you lack content to add to the website.

New material almost every day, you almost can starting articles for still active companies, in case of a sudden exit scam. Cheesy

Unfortunately, this is probably true. There are probably many cloud mining companies, dice sites, altcoins, and exchanges that will end up being scams in the coming months.

Anyway, I finished the page for DiceBitco.in although it's looking a bit rough. A part of me wonders whether it's a good idea to include such borderline cases but personally, I feel the site would be incomplete without them. Any corrections are appreciated:

250  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WikiScams :: Information about Bitcoin and crypto scams on: March 19, 2015, 11:21:41 PM
Hiya folks. I added a new article about ReserveShare. It's not 100% confirmed to be a scam but the evidence seems to point more towards it being one so I went ahead and included it.

Found another good list of BTC-related scam sites here:

http://www.badbitcoin.org/thebadlist/

To be honest, there aren't that many more scams that I have a deep knowledge of so perhaps some more contributors for the wiki would be nice.

Or alternatively, just post some suggestions for new articles in this thread and I'll write them up. Smiley

Also, I decided to go ahead and add articles about possible scams like Inputs.io and Dicebitco.in but they will be worded so that the reader knows that it's a possible scam and definitely not 100% confirmed.

To do: Add references to RSU page, add pages for the 2 previously mentioned sites, and tidy up main page.
251  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WikiScams :: Information about Bitcoin and crypto scams on: March 18, 2015, 08:18:56 AM
You almost had me confused with Bitmixer.info, you should highlight that this is NOT https://bitmixer.io.

Yeah, it's a shame that their names are so similar. I'm in the Bitmixer.io sig campaign myself and while I've never used their service, I know from other peoples' experiences that they have been a really good company so far.

I added a disclaimer at the top of the page and mentioned it again in the article that the two should not be confused. If anyone thinks that more could be done to distinguish the two then they can feel free to modify it themselves.

Also the favicon is now showing up which is good. I added two more pages:

CryptoDouble (ponzi where owner ran away with coins): http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=CryptoDouble
ShareXcoin (scam altcoin exchange): http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=ShareXcoin
252  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WikiScams :: Information about Bitcoin and crypto scams on: March 18, 2015, 01:13:07 AM
Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I'm not sure whether or not I should include borderline cases like Dicebitco.in or cases where it is unsure if there was a scam perpetrated or not - e.g. Mt. Gox or Inputs.io. Both sites claimed that they were hacked which if true, would disqualify them from being scams. What does the community think about these cases?

Good concept, but you should have added more content to the site before posting to attract more audience..

When the site was first launched, it only had 2 very short pages. Now it has 6 and they're much longer so it's definitely growing. Smiley

I uploaded a favicon but it doesn't seem to be showing up from here yet. I still need to set up categories too. Redirects have been set up and are confirmed working.

All existing pages have been expanded and several new ones have been written:

Bitmixer.info (scam mixing service): http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=Bitmixer.info

Cryptory (HYIP and ponzi cloud mining firm): http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=Cryptory

Oreocoin (altcoin with virus instead of wallet): http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=Oreocoin

To do: ShareXcoin and CryptoDouble
253  Economy / Services / Re: A small survey for 0.005 BTC on: March 17, 2015, 11:39:22 AM
Done. I logged into my old Gmail account and finished the survey. It is quite short which is nice to see. My address is 1PFMGybSCDnoq8bHtzQD2vUfyHohsH8FF5. When the survey asked for my email address, I used my primary email rather than the Gmail one that I used to sign in to Google. Is this OK?
254  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WikiScams :: Information about Bitcoin and crypto scams on: March 17, 2015, 11:21:09 AM
Here is the Pirate article I promised to write:

Quote
Trendon T. Shavers, under the alias pirateat40 (also known as Pirate) was the operator of a ponzi scheme called Bitcoin Savings & Trust which was the largest scam ever in Bitcoin's history. Advertising itself as a virtual hedge fund, Bitcoin Savings & Trust allowed users to invest their bitcoins and gain a profit of 1% per day or 7% per week. Pirate claimed to be offering such high returns by carrying out market arbitrage activities.

The scam collapsed in August 17, 2012 nine months after it first began. Initially, Pirate claimed that the closure was voluntary and that all funds would be returned to investors but as weeks went by with no refunds, investors began to suspect that it was a scam from the very beginning. The total size of the ponzi scheme was estimated at 500,000 bitcoins worth almost $7 million which represented 5% of all bitcoins in existence at the time.

In 2013, Trendon T. Shavers was charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC) with defrauding investors. In 2014, U.S. Magistrate Judge Amos L. Mazzant ordered Shavers to pay a $40.7 million fine.

Link: http://www.wikiscams.org/index.php?title=Pirateat40

There are still a few more things I need to work on. I'll have to generate and upload a favicon, set up categories and redirects, and tidy up the main page. Any feedback is appreciated. Smiley
255  Economy / Services / Re: A small survey for 0.005 BTC on: March 17, 2015, 11:12:44 AM
Clicking on the link takes me to a page with the Google sign in prompt. I take it either the survey is full or you need to sign up for a Google account in order to participate? Here's a screenshot:

256  Economy / Services / I will design and host your website for free on: March 17, 2015, 08:55:38 AM
My Dreamhost account is looking rather empty. If you have a simple website that needs hosting, I'll host it for you under a free subdomain (or alternatively, bring your own domain).

Requirements:

  • Must be a simple site - i.e. less than a 50 pages.
  • No fancy PHP scripts or databases.
  • You must either a.) go to oswd.org and choose one of the templates there that you like, or b.) I will design a simple CSS template for you but it won't look pretty, or c.) upload a template as plain text on Pastebin.
  • Website content must be sent to me via PM or posted on Pastebin.
  • Images should be uploaded to an established image host such as Postimage.org.

If you're interested, post in this thread or send me a PM. This would suit a small website such as one for a restaurant or a bakery. If you have positive trust or are a hero member, then I might loosen the rules a bit.
257  Other / New forum software / Question about accounts with invalid email addresses on: March 17, 2015, 05:05:08 AM
I created an account a while ago for a website that I was going to launch. However, I used an email address that has since been deleted and is probably not available for re-registration. Since the passwords for our accounts in the new forum will be sent via email to the email addresses we have on our profiles, would it not be possible to access this account once the forum software is migrated? Is it recommended that I register a new email address and change it to this one before the switchover happens?
258  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bits vs. Satoshi on: March 17, 2015, 04:51:27 AM
Any expression other than BTC:

If Bitcoin is to ever succeed, then denominating everything in BTC won't work. I mean, can you imagine how awkward it would be?

Person 1: "How much does that cost over there?"
Person 2: "Oh that? Um... Let me see. Uhh.. It's zero point zero zero zero zero five bitcoins."
Person 1: "Wow! That's cheap!"
Person 3: "Actually the store down the road is selling it for zero point zero zero zero zero zero nine bitcoins."
Person 2: "Wait... It's actually zero point zero zero zero zero zero five bitcoins. So our store is actually cheaper."
Person 1: "Oh damn! Looks like I only have zero point zero zero zero zero zero three bitcoins! Hey can I borrow zero point zero zero zero zero two bitcoins?"
Person 3: "You mean zero point zero zero zero zero zero two bitcoins right?"
Person 1: "Um... Isn't that what I just said?"

vs.

Person 1: "How much does that cost over there?"
Person 2: "Oh that? Um... Let me see. Uhh.. It's 50 bits."
Person 1: "Wow! That's cheap!"
Person 3: "Actually the store down the road is selling it for 9 bits."
Person 2: "Wait... It's actually 5 bits. So our store is actually cheaper."
Person 1: "Oh damn! Looks like I only have 3 bits! Hey can I borrow 2 bits?"
Person 3: "Sure!"
259  Other / New forum software / Re: Dealing with swearing too much on: March 17, 2015, 04:28:21 AM
I used to frequent a forum that had an "Elsewhere" board where virtually anything was allowed except for obvious things like spambots. You could swear, make ad hominems, troll, etc. Threads that were considered pointless or worthless by the mods were also moved to this section. It worked pretty well for the most part although sometimes the drama spilled over to the legitimate boards.

What's wrong with a bit of swearing? I see a bit on this forum but never seen a thread were it has been over the top.
And as for porn pics, I don't think full on porn pics should be aloud because there is a few kids here (or at least some people that act like kids) but don't get rid of the hot asian girls thread, that would just be too much.

I'm not sure if this forum implements it but NSFW tags are probably enough. They could be hidden by default and only accessed by clicking a button or by changing your account settings to show them by default.
260  Other / Meta / Re: change name/delete account on: March 17, 2015, 04:02:20 AM
You can't change your username (unless you pay ridiculously high amount for Donator/VIP status), you can't delete your account. Just dump this account and make new one or leave if your intention is that.

A source from 2013 says that not even those with Donator status (donated 10 BTC) can change their usernames although they can change their user titles which is the piece of text found under the username. You have to be a VIP and thus have donated 50 BTC to actually change your username.

Finally, the OP could donate 50 BTC to the forum and become a VIP. VIPs have the ability to change their usernames at will.

isnt 50BTC is too much for newbie just to change his name if he can create new account and easily get back his activity points?

In 99.99% of cases, sure. But the OP could be an early adopter with thousands of coins. Lots of people have spent more money than 50 BTC on weirder things and besides, a donation would benefit the forum. I agree it's pretty unlikely though which is why I only briefly mentioned it at the end of my post.

Quote
i recommend you to use that account until it became atleast Member or Full Member.. tomorrow you will have a maximum of 42 activity points ( Jr Member) if you do some post Smiley

If we measure using UTC time, then it should change today provided the OP makes enough posts. However, becoming a member requires 60 posts and becoming a full member requires 120 posts and (usually) waiting several months so it's possible that the OP might not want to wait so long.
