I would love to test the bitstream, but virtual box usb has issues, most the time it refuses any usb connected devices, even though they are installed and work fine in Windows.
To get around a few steps, the furthest along I've got it using wget all the files via my server, since I can't get my usb pen mounted either.

It kinda worked before, now the keeps complaining about "USB device is busy with a previous request".
Tried many of the usual stuff suggested on the virtual box support site, but it's short lived or doesn't work.

Their needs to be an easier way, maybe a native program for linux, rather than having to go via virtualbox.
Surely xc3sprog would work in a normal linux environment right? Don't mind sending a few bitcoins to someone who can help me out.

Seems a waste for me to be helping towards the bounty, then can't actually use it.

You can get the program here.

sudo svn co https://xc3sprog.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/xc3sprog/trunk xc3sprog

You will need Cmake, libftdi1, libftdipp1 from your distributions repository. Then  do a cmake . make, and make install and you should be golden. I was never able to get the pre-built binary version to work so this is how i did it.

I tried the 190 OC and it seems to be working on 2 of my FPGAs.  2 COM ports are detected (22,23 for me).  The weird thing is see the LEDS light up on 4 of the FPGAs as work is found, but MPBM is only reporting work from 2 of the FPGAs.  Huh

Guess it's the same issue I have regardless of which bitstream I'm using.  I'm only getting work from 2/4 of the FPGAs.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

You will only get work on 2 comms per board. The only way to analyze whether it's working is to look at the accepted jobs, U/m and what your pool reports.

Great, thanks for the info.  Anyone happen to know how to add the U/M field in MPBM?

ebereon has a modified version of MPBM he would be the one to ask, I think quite a few post back he linked a version.

Is the error I'm experiencing caused by the fact that my board has SN 26?
Which Controller-bitstream is required? 1.2 or 1.3?

You would need 1.3 for makomk bitstreams.
Controller 1.3 also gives me the "ignoring unknown field" errror...

Working after re-downloading the bitstream package... :/
Is any other version of cgminer than cgminer_twintest.exe working?

I'm using 2.6.0 compiled from git in Linux, it looks like there is one made for windows here http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/cgminer-2.6.1-win32.zip, no clue if it works on the cm1 in windows, works great in Linux.

How do I actually flash the shortfin_* bitstreams?
Using the VirtualBox and "xc3sprog -c cm1 -p 0 shortfin_*.bit" gives me

Ignoring unknown field '

Unknown error

Sad

I almost wonder if your file was corrupted somehow, you might try downloading, unzipping, and copying it one more time just to be sure something isn't wrong with the .bit file.
flash it like the twin_test.bit.
[...]

That's what I'm doing... ("-p 0" or "-p0" makes no difference)
But it's not working

Did you copy the files to the VBOX? do an ls *.bit and make sure your files are there.The command should be xc3sprog -c cm1 -p0 shortfin_icarus_cm1_test_160.bit no space between -p0. Then you would just change -p0 to -p1, p2, and p3, as each one completes to do all 4 fpga's.

How many bitstreams are currently in development?

- Glasswalker is re-writing the Icarus-bitstream, main problem is JTAG noise and meeting the timing?!
- Which bitstream is makomk working on? According to the filename, also some kind of Icarus-rewrite?
- Is EP still working on a (from-scratch) bitstream or are they now waiting for Glasswalker to finish his work?
- Is anyone working on making the TML-bitstream fully compatible with CM1?

I'm working on adding native support to the TML-bitstream with the included FTDI chip.  I've had to rewrite the jtag interface so it's been some time, but i'm progressing nicely.

How does that work exactly chrisp, can you still use a miner like cgminer, or do you need a miner provided by Et? I have yet to even look at making anything work with the Et bitstream.
248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quad XC6SLX150 Board - Initial Price £400/$640/520€ on: July 30, 2012, 04:21:22 PM
New Results with makomk 160.bit running smooth so far in cgminer 2.6.0.

Its getting there!

ICA 0:                | 357.4/358.3Mh/s | A:194 R:0 HW:0 U:  4.50/m
ICA 1:                | 361.1/355.3Mh/s | A:205 R:0 HW:0 U:  4.75/m
Nice! Out of interest, did you have trouble getting the board to pass cgminer's validation? I'm hoping I found the cause of that problem and fixed it, but...

Ive never had that error before and cgminer started right up, that's also running with 2 Actual Icarus units. I stopped and started it about 5 times as I moved it from the laptop I program them on to where they actually sit and they started up great each time. I havent written these to flash yet so they are still working with the temporary flash.

One thing I added to make these work better was a powered USB from Zefir's Advice, before the powered USB I was unable to get the 140 bitstream to work.

Unfortunately Ive never run in to that problem and don't have the coding knowledge to help fix that bug, however I did test 2.6.0 and got the makomk 140 bitstream working for the last 5 hours and its very stable.

ICA 0:                | 346.4/346.9Mh/s | A:723 R:0 HW:0 U:  4.00/m
ICA 1:                | 344.3/348.3Mh/s | A:704 R:1 HW:0 U:  3.90/m

Great numbers.

The Glasswalker 175 also works natively with 2.6.0 however its not a stable bitstream. I also was unable to get the Glasswalker 125 bitstream working at all, always fails golden nonce.

I can say I do prefer Cgminer to MPBM, lots more Debugging info that I can understand at any rate, API and fail-over, not sure why we mess with the MPBM but then again I don't make bitstreams so maybe its easier for testing purposes.

Keep up the great work guys.

There is no rollback from the glasswalker controller via usb. Not atleast with the current instructions.

On a slightly more positive note, Im currently flashing in the latest bitstream glasswalker pushed out and should have something to report in an hour or so.

You can go from 1.3 to 1.4, and 1.4 to 1.3 you just need to toggle SW1 3, and SW6 6. To go to 1.4 you just toggle sw6 6, and to go back I think I needed both toggled. Either way try a combo of the two toggles and it should work, I was able to go back to 1.3 using the normal usb cable but had to figure out the combination it wanted.

I went and verified real fast, all you need is SW1 3 off, and SW6 all on and it should flash.
Everything you mentioned has been tried, there is no way to get out of the glasswalker controller.
The spiprog does not report a problem, but it finishes instantly, so I believe something is still going wrong. Yes, definetley it dosent say Erasing. Or programming nor do the dots .............. appear.

Make sure when you plug your USB into your windows machine that the Device Loads correctly in device manager.

You should see Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Cairnsmore1 JTAG
Cairnsmore1 PortA
Cairnsmore1 PortB
Cairnsmore1 SPI

If any of those are missing or they have a warning Icon over them they wont work. Check your cable, and try differnt USB ports.

Out of 8 ports I have when I log in to windows only 1 port works for the Cairnsmore1 so it took me a bit to find one it liked, no clue why but its a good reason why windows 7 frustrates me.

Anyone had any luck with the testing bitstream yet? I'm eager to hear if it was successful at all Smiley

Mine gave me port not open error on all 4 Glasswalker, but something tells me others will have more success, I honestly am starting to think this needs to be done with a jtag cable to be successful. I don't think the usb way works properly.

Id like to see the results Eb gets when he tries it, I bet it works.

(10:59:50 PM) Glasswalker [~glasswalk@bas4-kingston08-1177944628.dsl.bell.ca] entered the room.
(10:59:54 PM) Glasswalker: Hey anyone here?
(11:00:29 PM) Glasswalker: I'm on my laptop at my inlaws, and don't have my password db readily available to log into bitcointalk
(11:00:37 PM) Glasswalker: but I have a new bitstream for people to test
(11:01:02 PM) Glasswalker: at http://www.btcsyn.com/bitstreams/cairnsmore_125_test.zip
(11:01:15 PM) Glasswalker: be aware this is untested, it uses new code that may not even work
(11:01:21 PM) Glasswalker: but I hope it's nice and stable in all 4 slots
(11:01:30 PM) Glasswalker: so I'm not wasting time optimizing the 175Mhz version of the same code.
(11:01:48 PM) Glasswalker: It's 25Mhz source clock, 57600 baud same as last bitstream, uses glasswalker controller
(11:02:11 PM) Glasswalker: If someone here could please post this info to the bitcointalk threads I would appreciate it
(11:02:30 PM) Glasswalker: This one is 125Mhz (125Mhash)
(11:02:33 PM) Glasswalker: only for testing functionality
(11:02:45 PM) Glasswalker: But if this works, I should have a 175Mhz version very soon
(11:03:00 PM) Glasswalker: if it fails, at least I know I need to debug it. instead of wasting a ton of compute power on optimizing bugged code
(11:03:27 PM) Glasswalker: Isokivi: *poke*
(11:03:50 PM) Glasswalker: zefir: *poke*
(11:04:01 PM) Glasswalker: makomk: *poke*
(11:04:03 PM) Glasswalker: lol
(11:04:32 PM) Glasswalker: ok well I've got to head to sleep, hopefully someone sees this, Tomorrow I'll get my pwdb going and get on and post it up myself if nobody beats me to it, but it might not be till the end of the day
(11:08:40 PM) Glasswalker: Night all, here's hoping someone has some success with the 125Mhz test.
(11:08:51 PM) Glasswalker: I've also sent it to Yohan at Enterpoint for testing.
(11:13:50 PM) Glasswalker left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 240 seconds).

Awesome thanks unicron, loading it up right now.

Got Glasswalker's test bitstream programmed and working.

Took my most stable board (2.63 + 2.63U with twin-test), programmed to SPI and seems to work. After ~25 minutes I get:
Code:

As Glasswalker mentioned, one FPGA is idling (orange LED lit), but 7.5U is way better than 5.3U Smiley

For programming the DIP switches are to be set as Yohan was explaining in the post here, while for mining the mini-howto is almost complete: you need to switch all FPGA DIP switches (2-5) ON.

For those working with Linux, I am using the xc3sprog toolsuite natively, built from SVN with the patch I posted here and the following script (ran as sudo):
Code:
#!/bin/bash

BS=fpgaminer_top.bit

./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p0 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p1 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p2 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p3 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
    echo "Fertig" | zenity --info || { echo "Fatal error!" && echo "Fehler" | zenity --error; }

You'll need to build cgminer from source with the Baudrate set to 57.6k to mine.

Edit: copy-paste garbage fixed

Love the script btw zefir.

Thanks!

256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quad XC6SLX150 Board - Initial Price £400/$640/520€ on: July 28, 2012, 03:14:45 AM
I tried on a different board with the same results. 140 makomk bitsteam works on fpga 0,3 just like twin_test. It

does not work on fpga 1,2. I double checked the comms. I can only think I'm making a procedure error.

For programming:

SW6   1 off, all else on

SW1   3 off, all else on

SW2,5   all on

SW3,4   2 off, all else on

For mining:

SW1   all on

no other changes

I think you need to program all 4, but only address 2 COM ports as it drives them as a pair in this mode.

Am I wrong?  I couldn't get this bitstream to work better than twin_test either.

It either failed Icarus detect in CGminer or hashed too slow, or not at all.

I had the same results, if I read correctly I think ebereon uses a jtag cable, maybe that makes it work? Im just using the usb cable.
257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Quad XC6SLX150 Board - Initial Price £400/$640/520€ on: July 27, 2012, 06:05:37 PM
Thanks! this data is helpful, and interesting.

I ran into an ongoing battle with the xilinx tools, my last build I attempted to do too much at once, and ended up having to backtrack. But I'm now caught up.

What I have now:

- Rewritten UART core to be improved and a bit more noise resiliant, and should be better at locking onto the data cleanly
- Adjusted the timing some more
- Reworked the project to be buildable purely in Xilinx ISE. (no more requirement for third party tools!)
- Using the above code I've built a 175Mhz version that doesn't fully meet timing (1.5ns off)
- I'm not running that build through smartxplorer on my workhorse to get it to close timing.
- In the meantime I'm now trying a build of both a 125Mhz and 150Mhz version of the same bitstream, hoping one of the 2 will meet timing so we can at least do functional testing to ensure the new code actually works as expected, and if so we can do some stability tests on the lower hashrate.

I'll post once I have a finished build of one of the "slower test builds" so some of you can try them out. Unfortunately this evening I leave town for the weekend and won't be able to get any work done. But the optimization run will run all weekend long and should be done early next week, so provided this new code actually works (and the slower cores test out fine) the 175Mhz version should finish sometime soon.

I'll be sending all my work to Yohan at Enterpoint, and he'll do some additional poking and testing on their end, perhaps another improved controller will help as well.

So I'm in rush mode right now to validate the code on a slower bitstream before I leave for the weekend, so I don't waste too much compute time on invalid code (if that's the case). Here's hoping though that it's all solid, and this can get us runing reliably on all 4 chips (at a slower rate), and early next week we'll see a 175Mhz version of the same.

Hopefully within an hour or two I'll post a .bit file for you to test out.

I have a strange problem where it only works on one of 5 of my machines, and the only difference I know of is that the one it works on is Debian with a custom zen 3.4 patched kernel. Im hoping some of your updates miraculously fix that. The ftdi driver on all the debian machines is 1.6, and that's the only serial driver I added to the one it works on.

The current Glasswalker bitstream worked for about an hour before cutting out on a second FPGA, and I figured out if I remove the workers that are broken and restart it runs stable on 2 FPGA at about 370mhash. Not that it really helps anything other than to confirm the bitstream obviously still needs tuning.

I did figure out why my MPBM didn't work, turns out at some point I downloaded a non working version of ebs modified version at some point and had that loaded. Once  re-downloaded the testing branch it worked for the one PC.

Looking forward to a new Bitstream to test its nice to see things moving ahead.

Small Update after another hour I start to get errors on the another FPGA.

To build:
Code:
./autogen.sh
./configure --disable-opencl --disable-cpumining --enable-icarus
make clean
make

And finally run with
Code:
./cgminer -S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1 -S /dev/ttyUSB2 -S /dev/ttyUSB3
assuming you have a valid ~/.cgminer/cgminer.conf

When I apply the Patch Zefir I get

Hunk #1 FAILED at 53.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 195.
2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file driver-icarus.c.rej
patching file fpgautils.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 210.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file fpgautils.c.rej

I tried to add it manually to the file but then got errors building cgminer.

Code:
#!/bin/bash

BS=fpgaminer_top.bit

./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p0 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p1 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p2 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
./xc3sprog -c cm1 -p3 -Ixc6lx150.bit $BS && \
    echo "Fertig" | zenity --info || { echo "Fatal error!" && echo "Fehler" | zenity --error; }

You'll need to build cgminer from source with the Baudrate set to 57.6k to mine.

Edit: copy-paste garbage fixed

How do I set the Baudrate in Cgminer Zefir? I have 2.5.0 built already just need to set that Baudrate and I think I'm good.

The problem I had with mbpm is that the wep-interface used to configure it is distorted for me. I cant for example even push the button for worksourdes,
The mpbm web interface does not play nice with Firefox. (I.e., doesn't work worth a damn.) This is a known problem.

Try it with a different browser.
For me, works fine with Safari.

Chrome also works.
