241  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the highest amount of money you've ever bet in a single game? on: February 25, 2024, 03:26:48 PM
Back when Bitcoin was trading around $10k, I put down about 0.01 BTC on a sports bet.  At the time, it was equal to around $100 - not an insignificant amount for me.  Of course, I ended up losing it all and  looking back now with how much a single Bitcoin is worth, putting that much money down on a sports wager probably wasn't the sharpest move.  But I was okay with the potential loss at the time and don't really regret it.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Electrum Wallet Help/Bitcoin SV on: February 25, 2024, 02:14:18 PM
<cut>

You probably mistakenly confused the Bitcoin SV (BSV) shitcoin with the real Bitcoin (BTC). The official version of the Electrum wallet you downloaded from Electrum.org does not support shitcoins, only Bitcoin.

As BitMaxz suggested, you can try to recreate your wallet (using the same seed) with a forked version of Electrum software that has been modified for BSV.
243  Economy / Reputation / Re: Users who spread false/fake/unhelpful information on technical board on: February 25, 2024, 01:06:52 PM
I was surprised by the amount of BS in SamReomo's post on the tech board. Context: a Newbie asked for help with long-term Bitcoin storage. I've included my comments in this quote:
Good to know that someone can really share your posts that way even if you give accurate information. LoyceV, I suggested him to go for an air-gapped system after setting the wallet. I guess ABCbits has shared something valuable about cold wallet which I'll note from now on.

But why would you even suggest something like that if you don't know what you're talking about? That's just plain wrong.

The whole point of an air-gapped system is to physically isolate your data, preventing its leakage online. There is no point "to go for an air-gapped system" after setting up the wallet, since this is the most critical part of the whole process.
244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Updates from the COPA v Craig Wright trial on: February 25, 2024, 12:07:10 PM
Who said he's a security expert? That's a title Craig has given himself, but given he gets hacked regularly when it's convenient for him as an excuse I'd say I'm more of a security expert than Craig.

I don't think that australian stock exchange would hire someone incompetent for monitoring their systems .

That is utter nonsense. Companies hire incompetent and lazy people all the time. Have you ever heard of terms like nepotism or bribery? Craig is exactly the type of person who would lie, cheat or try to buy his way in. Obvious example: plagiarizing his PhD thesis or lying in court about his expertise, while physical evidence says otherwise.
245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who buys Bitcoin at $500k on: February 25, 2024, 10:03:28 AM
My question is who buys Bitcoin at that price..?

Can you imagine someone asking a similar question 3-4 years ago? "Who buys Bitcoin at $50k?" The value of one bitcoin was well below <$10k back then. But here we are now. (not to mention 2021/22). The point is, there is always someone buying bitcoin, just as there is always someone selling it. No matter the price.

Will the value of Bitcoin keep increasing after then?

It is impossible to predict the future, but most likely yes. As long as there is new demand, the price is likely to rise due to limited supply.
246  Other / Meta / Re: Hey Theymos, There Should Be a Demotion Button on: February 25, 2024, 08:48:39 AM
Although I like the suggestion in general, but it seems @OP opened this topic because he received a negative feedback from high ranked user. Tongue

I am clear that it is not that it seems that way, it is that there is a clear cause-effect relationship between one thing and another.

Well, this explains a lot about why OP is dissatisfied with the current merit system and why he came up with this idea. Usually, people who are against the system are also the ones who are trying to abuse it.  I'm sure he would put his alt account farms to good use if we actually had de-merit or demote buttons.
247  Economy / Reputation / Re: There is an abuse of merit on: February 25, 2024, 07:34:48 AM
My question is, how do I give 50 merit in this simple post? Merit is given to those who post good quality standards, but it is seen that merit is being misused. Merits are being offered to random posts that need to be noted. They are trying to grow new accounts using multiple accounts.

You're right. It's a misuse of merits and both accounts are probably connected, but it's hard to prove.

Icefrag has been inactive for over five years, and all of his merits have been airdropped, so it's possible that he's part of a larger account farm. hashuna, on the other hand, is a newbie and all his posts are related to "Pyrin" announcement.
248  Other / Meta / Re: Demand for non-Telegram forum notifications? on: February 24, 2024, 09:46:25 AM
But easy solution for many people right now is to use a browser like Opera that lets you to have a sidebar with telegram extension. You receive telegram notification on the left, open it and then immediately access the link.

I believe there are Telegram extensions for all major web browsers (like this one for Chrome, or this one for Firefox). Or you can use something like Twitter messenger, which unifies multiple platforms and works very similar to what you have in the Opera browser.
249  Other / Meta / Re: [Request] Theymos we need moderator again in Croatian local board on: February 24, 2024, 09:28:22 AM
Where are shitposters and spammers when you need them...

I'm sure you know that very well, but let's not poke a hornet's nest.  Wink

Nothing is impossible, and I would like to see our board with moderator before my account dies (in forum).

Me too. Maybe we'll get a moderator when the new forum software goes live?  Cheesy

[don't mind me, I'm just feeling sarcastically pessimistic today.]
250  Other / Meta / Re: Icopress ' Merit Source Application 🚩 on: February 24, 2024, 09:14:53 AM
I am surprised by this data, which I did not know, as I registered in 2020 and I would say I was legendary last year (is there any way to check?).

According to the DdmrDdmr's Merit Dashboard, you were promoted to Legendary rank sometime in early December 2022:

Poker Player             -> Legendary from New Era Newbie during Merit System kick-off.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Updates from the COPA v Craig Wright trial on: February 24, 2024, 08:42:53 AM
afterall why would you record yourself performing forgery unless you want to package it up as part of a portfolio of 'art' to be part of some media deal later on.

I don't think that he really recorded himself performing those changes, rather it is a visual representation of all LaTeX logs. I didn't know they were that detailed, but apparently they are.

253  Economy / Services / Re: [Open] OddJobsforBitcoin Signature Space for Rent on: February 23, 2024, 04:01:06 PM
How likely is it that someone will offer money for a signature space to an account that has been quite inactive until now?

Very unlikely! Seems more plausible OP made up the whole thing for attention.  Doubt many folks would care about his services otherwise and  so maybe he stirred up some fake drama on purpose to get noticed.  Can't blame someone for wanting a little attention I guess, but I don't think this is the best way to go about it.

Maybe I am just paranoid.

That makes two of us.
254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The future of cryptocurrency. on: February 23, 2024, 10:44:22 AM
I think it's really important for crypto to go mainstream.  Right now it's still pretty niche - like, can you imagine if your grandma could easily buy her groceries with bitcoin? That would be wild.  We'd probably see way more user-friendly apps, more stores accepting different cryptos as payment and just overall wider adoption.

As for totally replacing regular fiat money? Hmm I'm not sure and  crypto obviously has some good things going for it - transparency, security, and all that.  But fiat currencies like the dollar have a ton of infrastructure and government support behind them. I'd guess they'll probably coexist filling different needs for people.  Kinda like how cash and credit cards do now - both have their place.

But here's the really exciting part - crypto creates possibilities for completely new economic models and systems! Things like microtransactions, crowdfunding, decentralized versions of apps we already use today.  So while I can't predict exactly how it'll pan out I think one thing's for sure: crypto is here to stay and its gonna keep pushing boundaries!
255  Economy / Reputation / Re: What Sort of Signature is "FUCK Royse777"? on: February 23, 2024, 08:38:49 AM
Maybe some past grudge from signature selection or envy.
Past grudge from signature selection? I highly doubt because there's no such campaigner who will earn sats here and spend them here for no reason.

What's the offer? If it's a good deal and above average price than usual signature campaign, take it lol. I think AB De Royse777 won't mind that.

That's more like becoming a hired gun. Not sure I can cope as an assassin. It's a hell of a thing to kill a man.

You are exaggerating. It's nothing of the sort.  You know the saying, "There is no such thing as bad publicity!"  Cheesy

257  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: m88.com forfeit 209 euros on: February 22, 2024, 12:15:45 PM
Based on the attached screenshot, m88.com casino has determined that you violated their Terms of Use. Specifically, they have voided your bets in accordance with Section 8.3 of their Terms of Service.

That's unfortunate. But without more evidence, it's hard to say who's right. Did you genuinely violate their terms, or is this a questionable move by the casino. Unfortunately, m88 isn't represented on our forum, so getting their side of the story or forcing their hand is pretty much out of the question.

I asked them to tell me what I did wrong. They replied as you can check by emails that they will not disclose anything of their "findings". They did the "investigation" and the money was forfeited in less that 5 minutes after I submitted my withdrawal request. So you do the maths....

I understand you, I'm just saying there's not much we can do.

So, I took a peek at some casino review sites (because, you know, research) and let's just say, this place isn't exactly winning any awards for trustworthiness.

This casino is not recommended!
This operator is NOT recommended by ThePOGG.com. This could be due to a variety of negative behaviours, from refusing to discuss complaints to suspect gambling software or predatory terms and conditions. We would encourage players to consider alternative operators to play with.

I know it's too late to be smart now, but why did you choose this casino for your bets in the first place?  It's always recommended to research an online casino before depositing money and playing. Did you know there are independent review sites that assess things like this?

I agree with philipma1957. I have been thinking about this thought for a long time, but maybe my opinion could make me not accepted in the campaign managed by icopress, but this thought bothers me enough that I want to convey it here.

Honestly, I don't doubt Icopress's objectivity because he is an old member who has contributed a lot to this forum, but with him as a merit source there is the possibility:

~ As a selling point and perhaps sending more merit to the client's account
~ Send merit more often to campaign participants because he see their campaign participants' posts every week

Are you suggesting icopress has a history of favoring certain clients or participants? If so, can you point to specific examples? If not, what do you think prevented him from doing it already? What specific changes do you predict if he becomes a merit source?

If I look at campaigns that have merit source participants, usually those client accounts get more merit and rank up faster compared to campaigns that are not participated in by merit sources.

Why are you adding campaign participants to the mix now? Are you suggesting that merit sources should not even participate in campaigns, let alone manage them?
